Clearly I am in the minority. The very short demo did not move me to purchase the game. I found the pace slow and plodding. I had the use the hint often as objectives and ways to progress in the story were unclear. While the HOS were different and interesting I found the clues very vague, I also found the mini-games difficult & had to refer to the SG or skip to complete them. I suggest that rather then buy based on the five staar reviews you play the demo first.
This game has a very short demo & apparently only contains two of the four chapters in the complete game. That being said I did purchase the game after the demo-albeit with a free game coupon. I found the game refreshingly different-a modern film noir storyline following a detective that specializes in the supernatural & who is also looking for his lost sister. While there is a warning about its "graphic nature"-I found the game more gritty than graphic. The storyline flows very logically-with puzzles and HOS fitting logically into the flow of the game. The puzzles range from somewhat easy to somewhat challenging and give the real feel of being a detective. It was certainly worth a free game coupon & would be worth buying with the cyber Monday offer-full price-not so sure-if it was the full game-probably so.. As always try the demo & decide for yourself.
I have not purchased many CEs recently. Either the storyline is too familiar-the puzzles or HOS too difficult-the collectibles too difficult to find-or a combination of the above. Although I have been playing BFG for many years - I am an older player & only consider myself as an intermediate player. Using the hint/skip button a lot I get frustrated & usually do not purchase the game, The puzzles & HOS-while not too easy-were doable The storyline was different enough to keep me engaged & logical. The only thing I would have liked was an option in the HOS-match 3-mahjong -or some other. As I said-this was just right for me
I enjoyed this game enough to purchase it after the demo-albeit with a free game coupon. Yes the instructions are minimal & the goals rather vague-but if you are a god creating a new universe from scratch who is there to give you instructions or explain goals??? I found the challenge & uncertainty stimulating & fun. The HOS are used to earn mana to buy a variety of hints-you can repeat them as often as you like so it becomes easier & easier to buy the hints. The hints vary and I found a couple more useful than others-but that may depend on your problem solving approach. With BFG offering an endless series of very similar HOGs, I found it refreshing to find something different to play. As always do the free trial & decide for yourself.
Liked the storyline & thought the visuals were good, I did however find the music loud & annoying. I found the navigation slow & cranky, the map confusing & the hint button, that I had to use frequently, sometimes unclear as to where it was directing me. Using inventory items was also difficult as you had to click & hold to use them in a scene. The deal breaker for me was the HOS, junkpiles with tiny difficult to find item-hint-hint-hint-very frustrating. As always try it for yourself.
Sunnglow has given an excellent description of the game.
To me this game was just OK-based on the very short demo(which makes me think the game may be short also) I was not moved to buy the CE-although I might spend a credit on the SE.
I agree that the pace of the game is slow & the visuals dark & gloomy. The HOS were OK but some the mini-games did not have adequate instructions & proved to difficult for me without using the SG or skip button. I never found the clue to the dice game that the hint button kept pointing me to & had resort to using the SG.
I found the idea of choosing your next scene intriguing-but since the demo ended at that point was left wondering.
As always I say try the demo & see-but not for me.
I found the concept of this game interesting-locate object that allow you to change events in your past. Unfortunately for me the objects are found in an endless series of HOS-and that is simply not my cup of tea. The HOS are well done with objects reasonably easy to find-there are simply just too many of them-for me. The graphics are "old school" the music loud & annoying. The description talks about mini-games-but in the 10-15 minutes I played the demo I did not see any. If you love HOS you will probably like this game. As always I suggest trying the demo first.
While I liked the creepy but familiar storyline well enough(opening scene actually made me jump) & thought the visuals & sound were fine-I found the mini-games so difficult that this game just was frustrating & not fun. In the 20 minutes I played I did not complete one mini-game without either having to refer to the SG or skipping or both and I am not a new or inexperienced player of these type of games. The HOS also seemed over complicated to me & for me too frequent. There is the option of playing a pretty simple matching game instead, Many of the collectibles were difficult to find-sometimes even after checking the SG. While I appreciate a challenge this game simply became too frustrating to continue or purchase. As always check out the demo for yourself.
I thought the storyline had possibilities, but: No choice of playing mode. No map. Hint takes forever to recharge. Loud awful music that can only be turned on or off. Long delays when moving from scene to scene-pace slow & plodding. Too many, for me, HOS with objects small and hard to find. Mini games have poor instructions and are difficult with skip also taking forever to fill, Played demo for 20 minutes-only because progress was so slow-but wanted to give it a chance. I definitely don't recommend this game and for once don't even recommend trying the demo-it is a waste of time.
I consider myself a casual but intermediate player of these type of games & I have played & enjoyed the previous games in this series. I cannot honestly say that for this title. I played the full 90 minutes of the demo. I simply found myself using the hint & skip button more than usual. The HOS were dark & items , for me, difficult to find. I ended up skipping the majority of mini-games. The collectibles were difficult, again for me, to find, even using the strategy guide. I also found the the back & forth a bit illogical & tedious. Not a buy for me CE or SE, but you may love the game. As always I suggest playing the demo & deciding for yourself.
