I will be the contrarian here.
The game is gorgeous, the HO scenes are mostly well done, the music is fine and the voice acting is better than most. Nice variety of puzzles and mini-games.
But ... the constant back and forth had me seething. And it isn't as if you're only backtracking a room or two at a time.
If I hadn't had the strategy guide, I probably would have just given up the ghost (pun intended).
I don't recommend this game.

Over all an enjoyable game spoiled by HO scenes being too dark to see many objects. I still recommend it because it's visually gratifying and the hint system can get you through the rough spots expeditiously. Good story line with a satisfying conclusion.
I recommend this game!

The game has a consistent story line. Visuals are interesting. The contrasts between the real world and the shadow world are well done and really add to the atmosphere of the game. Lots of hints and interactive help. I often refer to walk-throughs to make it through games, but not this one. Their use of maps to go directly from place to place should be in most games.
I recommend this game!

Stunning graphics.
Excellent voice acting.
Best use of music ever. (This is high praise coming from someone who usually shuts it off.)
Wonderfully executed HO scenes. (No junk piles)
Maps useful but could have been better.
Some puzzles/mini-games very difficult and tedious
Way too much "back and forth" required
Ending did not impress.
I recommend this game!

The look and feel of this game is superb. I really enjoyed the parts I was able to finish. Unfortunately, I ran into playability issues that ruined it for me.
First time through I got stuck in chapter 2 and couldn't proceed. I suspect I may not have done things in the proper/expected sequence.
Re-started the game as a different player and made it all the way to the end of chapter 7 when I got stuck again. This time was a HOS that couldn't be completed. I checked the walk-through and knew what had to be done but the sequence couldn't be initiated.
It appears I may be in the minority since most of the reviews are quite positive and, quite frankly, I would have given it 5 stars myself if I had been able to complete it.
I don't recommend this game.

Excellent visuals. Can't say much about the music since I always turn it way down or even off. Interesting story. Inventive navigation functions. Lots of help. The ending is a bit of a letdown.
I recommend this game!
