I was included in the beta testing of this game at least 2 months ago and have anticipated its release since then and I for one am sure glad it is finally offered.
Let me begin with some facts about Mayan myths and the Day of the Dead. Shibalba ( correctly spelled Xibalba ) does not have a humanoid form as is presented in this game. In fact Xibalba is the underworld of Mayan mythology that is ruled by the 12 death gods the leader of which is Hun-Came ( one death ). Its second in command is Vucub- Came ( seven deaths). The remaining 10 lords are demons given domain over forms of human suffering. They include Ahalpuh ( pus demon ) and Xiquiripat ( flying scab ) among the others. So humanizing Shibalba is absolutely contrary to the mythology.
Having said that, this is nevertheless an outstanding game.
There have been lots of Redemption Cemetery games over the years and I was enthralled with the initial couple of them. As the series continued a definite lack of originality became the norm as is the case with so many serialized games. This being the case a level of boredom ensued. Fortunately with Day of the Almost Dead, Redemption Cemetary returns to a lofty perch in the HOPA world.
For starters I can recall only one other game based on the Day of the Dead, a rather tongue in cheek issue called Calavera in and of itself a terrific game. So seeing this RC infused something new that is so lacking in too many games.
Here we have Shibalba needing to acquire 3 more human souls to ensconce himself as ruler of the living as well as the dead. The player is tasked with preventing such an occurrence.
The drawing and graphics in this game are top-notch and navigating within game sections is a breeze. The demo does not include too many hidden object segments while there are lots of fascinating if not unique puzzles. During the demo I did not come across morphs and/or collectibles nor was I seeking them out as I was so engrossed in game play.
There are not too many games these days that I consider worthy of purchase primarily due to so much been there done that feelings. Day of the Almost Dead is at long last something players who are as tired as I am with the same old same old can sink their teeth into a wonderful game.
I need to end this so I can buy a great game.
I recommend this game!

I decided to give Karma, a soft release, a shot since the stills shown in the introduction looked so cool. A slow download told me the game was either very primitive or that there is so much to develop that it takes time. It turns out that both opinions are correct with emphasis on the primitive.
Karma visually comes from way out in left field and that might be wonderful. The major downside that the player learns from the very beginning is there are absolutely no worded directions on how to proceed.
The initial cut scene shows a couple of love struck blobs smooching. One of them is eaten by a creature straight out of
JAWS. It isn't dead though and the other blob is now tasked to find and rescue it. The only way our little blobber can advance in bizarro world is to overcome obstacles in its way.
We get pictorial instructions only via bubbles such as found in cartoons. I was able to get through a couple of them and then was faced with a group of rocks and the blob must touch adjoining rocks until it reaches a new level. Unfortunately I spent 5 minutes and never advanced. This is where worded instructions would have been nice OR a skip be available.
NO GO. So goodbye Karma.
I realize other players will find the game much more manageable than me. I really wanted to like the game but the lack of assistance when needed brought me to my knees.
Developers should not ask audiences to think so outside the box that it becomes necessary to mind meld with the developer.
I don't recommend this game.

All of the vacation adventure games both on land and on the seas are nothing more than junk pile HOGs. Some items are poorly drawn particularly the crew members and passengers when cut scenes appear to indicate people are speaking. Like all games if this ilk, a dozen or more items must be found and then there are trash items to place in cans and silhouetted objects to place in what seems to be a porthole. After each Ho segment is a puzzle to complete and they vary from word searches, find the difference, realignments, etc.
One of the puzzles was in fact quite puzzling since the player in a sort of connect the dots theme had the cruise ship travelling to inland locations in Europe that are inaccessible by an ocean liner.
Lots of players enjoy these games however I am not one of them. I will recommend this effort for those who want them mostly because there is challenge in finding items. For players who want more in games than finding junk, stay away.
I recommend this game!

I was part of the beta testing group and the working title was Hotel Victory, so one change is the title to Rewind. I think the original title is more apt since game play occurs within rooms Just as was done in the original Ravenhearst. In fact using Rewind as a title is somewhat of a misnomer since the only part of going backwards is using old and familiar characters. Otherwise everything else in the story is new.
There is so much to really like about this latest MCF offering.
The fact that it is old school gaming appeals to me a lot.
The fact that it involves the Dalimar family appeals to me a lot.
The fact that it involves characters found in Madame Fate appeals to me a lot.
The game play itself is definitely a rewind in that the elements used in Ravenhearst are repeated here. The player must navigate various rooms within the Ravenhearst -like mansion and locate HO parts and then complete a Rube Goldberg style puzzles ala Madame Fate games. I use the term Ravenhearst-like since the original mansion was burned down in a prior game.
The only minor downer for me is using cartoonish figures for the Dalimars, particularly Victor. The use of live actors in Return to Ravenhearst and later in Dire Grove was a superb effect. I guess keeping with this system might not be cost effective for the developer.
I imagine there are some players ( a small minority ) who have yet to play the early chapters of this outstanding series.
Should that be the case playing Return to Ravenhearst and Madame Fate before tackling Rewind is a good idea. No one would start reading a book at chapter 12 so a visit to these great old games is an excellent primer as well as being involved in terrific older games.
Kudos to whoever decided to create Rewind as it is a brilliant idea. Please note that I give this review without doing the trial of the finished product. I liked the beta so much I did it 3 times.
I recommend this game!

Tales of Lagoona 3 initially appeared to me to be a game for kids. As it turns out this little gem is for kids who have at least reached voting age. The finest aspect is the total irreverence and sassy talk uttered by just about every character save Leona who after returning from vacation found the theme park she runs to have been totally messed up stemming from a rather distinct miscommunication between her employees and a construction company hired to refurbish a castle. Instead the castle is demolished and debris scattered everywhere within the park.
We meet Theo the turtle who works at the park and in the brains department is a bit shy of a full case. There is the mayor, a walrus who for some reason is Leona's enemy.
We also ( in the demo ) become acquainted with Leona's grandparents, former park owners who remind Leona that lots of treasures are in the park because certain arcade games were too hard to win prizes. Thus we get the major theme of the game.
During game play itself we get some clever hidden object segments that require finding named items, riddle items, fractured objects etc. There are other segments that make us find matching items reminiscent of Clutter games. Once we enter the arcade there are various tasks to accomplish that require a good deal of thought and or preparation. The difficulty levels are such that this game, as cartoonish as it seems, is not for the junior set.
I really like the dialogue between characters although some cut scenes are a tad too long. Lagoona 3 reminds me of a couple other nicely sassy efforts. One has a character named Brunhilda though I do not recall the game title. The other includes a bratty penguin in a hard game entitled One Penguin...........sorry the full title escapes me again. I blame it on a senior moment.
Those players who really like hidden object games but get bored with the same story lines about evil beings, weird mansions, ghosts, etc. need look no further than Lagoona 3 for a jolly good time.
I just wish some of the directions were more pronounced since the game seems a bit strange until the player becomes more familiar with the game. One of the best parts it is not a collector's edition so the lower cost is nice. I enthusiastically endorse Lagoona 3.
I recommend this game!

This installment of Fantasy Mosaics is no better or worse than its predecessors. While I fully realize that a % of BFG fans will absolutely be enthralled by # 29, I am surely not. The one aspect of Alien Planet that is remotely appealing is than Match Gems does no hand holding in the early grids. Those players in love with these games will find tough grids early on.
I own too many of these to spend more money on them so it's a pass for me.
If there are any game players who are unfamiliar with these grid games be assured that Fantasy Mosaics is in no way shape or form a SUDOKU style game.
I endorse the game for those who cannot get enough of these. I have had more than enough
I recommend this game!

My gosh how has is become that so many games are just goshdarned awful. I am not even going to get into the game premise as this would be a total waste of my time and for those who might otherwise choose to read the game synopsis.
So I'll just get to the ridiculous gameplay. Our protagonist is Sarah who starts out in her home and has a package tied in string. Sarah says she has no knives ( in her own home ???)
so she does have a handy box cutter nearby. This is nothing more than an insult to the player's intelligence. To continue this debacle we once again are faced with locks needing outrageous keys, a cat toy to get kitty out of the way of an item, honey to appease a bear cub ( where is mama bear who should be close by to rip apart anybody approaching her baby ??) Our assistant is hurt in a motorcycle accident so we must patch him up before he gives us the key to the cycle.
Are you all getting my drift? This game contains most if not all cliched items and tasks seen thousands of times in better games. Then we must suffer through the purple backgrounds in Shadow Breach. The background music should have been something straight out the rock band DEEP PURPLE.
AAUUGH !!! Why must we be subjected to this sort of trash over and over. I generally complete the entire demo but not here. I had a more fun clipping my toenails. Dump this atrocity into the deepest abyss available
I don't recommend this game.

Once again HOPA players find themselves buried with another exceedingly lame game. A group of college friends decide to reunite after 10 years and of course the best place to reune is a decrepit old mansion that can only be accessed first by a large boat and then by a dinghy that runs out of gas. Then said dinghy needs to be hoisted by a crane to save it from a rock strewn coast. Have you noticed how the small boat is attached to the crane by 2 hooks both at the bow of the boat. Dumb move since this method would surely dump the passengers out of the stern and onto the treacherous rocks. This alone was to me an indication of not so cool things to come and they arrive in spades!!
The motley crew of alumni, who don't even seem to like each other that much, start carping about the mansion from the get go and complaining to each other. Then without a further ado a chandelier mysteriously falls and strikes a reuniter named Evelyn. The host of the mansion, ( Covington ) had greeted the group and then disappeared. He's more than likely a cause of what goes wrong from there.
The group splits up to find a way off the island to obtain medical help for the stricken friend, but of course we all find out that won't happen due to circumstances seen over and over again in games of this ilk.
To its credit Haunted Manor does include some interesting HO segments and a couple of decent puzzles but that's it.
The story just falls apart from the beginning and does not improve as game play evolves. This dismal CE includes morphing lizards and collection owls.
I liken the 5 star reviews to watching the same B movie every day and for some reason fully enjoying it despite the never ending repetitiveness. The best aspect of the Last Reunion is that I won't be spending any money for it. We once again have a " new game everyday " that has absolutely not one thing new in it. .
I don't recommend this game.

This is the 3rd installment of Saga of the Nine Worlds. IMO the 1st game is outstanding while the 2nd failed somewhat to warm the cockles of my heart. Fortunately this 3rd edition restores my feelings for Saga as The Hunt ( at least the demo ) is fantastic.
Once again the player is in the midst of the Seer, Skald and the Huntress and the HUNT involves a quest to find and defeat not so dearly departed beings who are bent on destroying the world as we know it and drop everything into a abyssmal void.
During the demo the player acts as the Huntress and she must return to her own people to gain assistance from her kind and also restore her image to the great god ULL.
She, of course, must coordinate her efforts with folks met along the way and gather items and forge things necessary to her quest.
For starters The Hunt is stunning on the eyes as everything encountered is extremely lifelike. I am a bit surprised that there is not one hidden object segment in the demo but this fact does in no way diminish the excitement this game holds for me. There are loads of puzzles, the variety of which HOPA players have seen quite often. The manner in which these are presented while not unique offer entertainment and some degree of challenge that is a key factor in any very good game.
I suppose The Hunt includes morphs and collection items yet I became so engrossed in the quest itself that I did not bother to look for any extraneous items which as we all know well enough hardly ever impact the game.
Players who relish more of an adventure saga than merely facing constant HO segments should truly enjoy this hunt.
Being entrenched into more Norse mythology along the ride is an added enjoyment to a fantastic game.
I recommend this game!

This Eipix game is a disaster from the very beginning to the point where I quit the demo which is something I rarely do since there are some games that start slowly and then have the pace and the story quicken. Not here!!
For starters we have the Fletchers, a couple who appear to be at least in their 60's. They begin to recount to a younger relative about their arrival and subsequent events that occur in a " small New England town called Hidden Pines where everyone knows everyone"
We are told the population of Hidden Pines is somewhat north of 21,000. I happen to also live in a small NE town with a similar number of residents and I probably know less than 5% of my " neighbors". The Fletchers are invited to a party and all must wear a fake mustache unless nature has provided one with the real thing.
Shortly after Mrs. Fletchers introduction to the mayor's wife the wife is poisoned by a piece of cake or bread and Fletcher is immediately arrested for murder with the sheriff indicating there is very compelling evidence against Fletcher.
So now it is Mr. Fletcher's task to play detective, find the real killer and free his wife. Such as it is the player is now involved in a much used story line.
There are elements of incongruity in the game. Supposedly the memoir goes back some 30-40 years yet Hidden Pines has an ATM when this banking device had yet to be invented.
We have a rusted mailbox that opens without a key merely by spraying rust remover. Not a mailbox I'd want to use.
There are more of these weirdo occurrences that as another reviewer mentions are downright silly and laughable at best.
After about 25 minutes into this nonsense I abandoned the demo. Just the fact that in dialogue scenes sometimes character lips move and other times they do not annoyed me.
I cannot at all fathom why there are so many 5 star reviews for this piece of trash, but as the old saying goes: "different strokes for different folks". If this lame effort is to be the first of a new series Eipix will need to seriously up its game.
I don't recommend this game.
