BASED ON ENTIRE GAME & Bonus Chapter Play:
The story takes place in the 1700s or thereabouts, based on a nobleman sea Captain whose claim to fame was his pursuit, capture and punishment of pirates. We get the clue to his true love/wife's identity early on and several times during the game which really spoils the whole premise of the game, which is WHO IS THE CAPTAIN'S WIFE & why did she die suddenly and no one see her or her funeral?
Game play moves from the mansion grounds, to the mansion/castle itself (wait--Russian Devs: there are NO CASTLES IN AMERICA), to the dungeons and the captain's ship.
PROS:
There is a map early on for quick movement between locations
HOS are clear and Puzzles are good
Nice human narration
CONS:
This game only took about 3 hours to play, including the bonus chapter. There were good puzzles and HOS, but the game was ENTIRELY too SHORT for the CE Price! I have come to expect more when paying more for the CE and this game fell way short of the mark.
Too easy to figure out who wife was and why she died and why he was found in a pirate costume dead on the beach
I wanted to like this game and probably would have had I NOT paid CE price but SE instead.
I don't recommend this game.

Played both the main game and bonus 'chapter'...
The game is quite short for a CE, and has NO MAP but LOTS of back and forth from place to place #go here get this, now go BACK to where you were and use it, then repeat#. This took up LOTS of time/gameplay, rather than actually doing something, which got both boring and repetitive. The graphics were good, the HOS were ok, nothing spectacular.
BEST FEATURE to me was the additional things to find/collect as you played. There were 'morphing' objects throughout the game and bonus to be found. PLUS, there were items to collect which changed--5 butterflies, 5 tin soldiers, 5 snow globes; etc. This added a lot to the game, but was almost too much...the morphing objects were enough in my opinion.
Overall, it was just ok to me, and certainly NOT WORTH the CE price of $13.99, due to the shortness of the game and the gameplay and lack of map.
I don't recommend this game.

Great game, super graphics, interesting storyline (even if a bit far-fetched) and SO MUCH going on! In the game you not only solve the mystery of what is happening in Pilgrim's Hook complete with HOS and mini-games but there are also sea creatures in most scenes to collect as you play. Once you've finished the main game, you can elect to play another search & collect game, looking throughout the game for the 80 whale bones scattered there by the villain of the game. There is also a VERY GOOD Bonus chapter that was actually an "In the beginning" sort of retrospect or pre-quell which lasted more than an hour! All in all a really great game and WORTH THE C.E. price!
Map allows you to quickly morph from one area to another--especially valuable when searching for items and which I find have been missing in several top games of late.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND, you will surely get your seeking pleasure from THIS GAME!
I recommend this game!

Fully enjoyed this edition in the Redemption Cemetery series--it had all the customary great graphics & compelling storylines of going through time portals to save folks from deaths that the spirits you meet have caused or allowed to happen. This game uses your dog and has medallions/winner's ribbons you gather throughout the entire game and bonus play in order to be allowed to play games with your pup.
For once, I can honestly say that the Bonus chapter was entirely worth the extra $$--it truly was another chapter and not just 30 minutes of continuation.
Everything about this game is top notch--puzzles, HOS, storyline, voices, graphics...all are at the same super level we've come to associate with ERS. Thanks, Devs for such a well put together total package!
I recommend this game!

Just finished playing the CE and Bonus Chapter of Royal Detective. I totally got sucked in from the trial and purchased. The game storyline was quite good & a little bit different from what's out there now. We have a statue maker, an old village where the folks have all been taken away and the statues have come to life. You have a flying rooster to retrieve things for you and a beefy miner to break stuff for you. The MAP is great--saves TONS of TIME as you can select the area and poof! you are there! (that's also an achievement, called Fast Legs, using the map to travel!).
As the Royal Detective, you investigate the mysterious goings on in the village--from the disappearances to the living statues wreaking havoc on the town. Many lovely cut scenes show the 'back story', guided by a little wooden captain with a pipe (Rupert), who is also available for Hints. One thing the CE Guide does NOT mention is that you should look for and collect miniatures of all the figures in this game (statues, main characters) and in the company's other games (some from Surface & couple of other games). NO help or mention AT ALL as to where they are or even for you to be on the lookout for them. There are 26 total, and an achievement for collecting all 26 (I found only 25!)
In this game, as seems to be the 'new' thing, you are awarded Achievements--for getting through 3 puzzles without skipping, 3 HOS without a hint, and various other moments that happen in the game (saving others, etc. don't want to spoil it).
The graphics were beautiful, the voice of Rupert as well as those of Princess and the statues, etc, were all well done. Crisp lovely HOS, clever puzzles--this game pretty well has it all. There is even an OPTIONAL ENDING, depending on whether you choose to arrest the guilty party or let them go free!
The only drawback in my mind was the CE Bonus Chapter--it was by FAR the SHORTEST chapter of the game, lasted about 15 minutes for me, and most of that was due to having to travel back and forth between sites to get some item then take it to location and repeat. Don't think it is worth it in my opinion.
BUY this game, or at least, try the free hour--it is everything a game is supposed to be nowadays--great graphics, good gameplay, clever story, has a flying chicken/rooster that retrieves things for you, interactive HOS, difficult puzzles; a TWIST to the story and the ending is up to you! I like that they left it open for a sequel, too. I'm already looking forward to it.
I recommend this game!

longer play than the demo!!!
I wanted a simple, HOS game that wouldn't tax my brain on this fine Sunday afternoon. I got that, alright! I did download the demo, played it, thought it was good--almost pure HOS, with lots of mini-games (but mostly super easy with the notable exception of 3 for me) which were skippable without penalty. I have TONS of free games from punch cards & since you cannot use them even combined for purchasing CE, felt this was worthy use of a free game code....
NOT
After downloading the full game, I was SHOCKED when the game was over---not even 45 minutes after where the demo left me! I feel so CHEATED!
It was a mystery/cop investigation storyline. A murder has occurred at the local opera house. A woman is dead, you are "investigating", which in this game means that you have dialog with all 4 of the people that work at the opera house plus the director's wife. You have "investigation" dialog; you tell your assistant (that's the gameplayer) to check this out, or get that for DNA analysis to the lab or open a door or check out a bookcase or room. That's the sparkles. There, you find a HOS--these were quite good, I thought. Straightforward, well defined, good graphics, clear & properly named on your list. Then, on to the next one. There are some mini-games interspersed with the HOS--when encountering something to be fixed or a lock to be picked, etc.
All in all, it was not bad--no gore, no outstanding graphics, no cut scenes (oh wait, there were--these were shadows of people talking {the actual murder and what lead up to it} with dialog subtitles).
SAVE YOUR MONEY--download the Demo and let it go at that. You can clearly guess 'WHODUNIT'--it's obvious who the bad guy is...save yourself a credit, a free game or $6.99 and just stick with the Demo.
I recommend this game!

REVIEW BASED ON DEMO ONLY
because I couldn't even play the entire hour demo this game was that horrid! The idea of being a procurer for the rich &/or famous was a good one--lots of HOS to be had, rushing about finding items your clients demand. Unfortunately, no matter where your clients (or their items requested) were--be it backstage at a Paris fashion show, a grocery store or a nightclub--the items NEVER CHANGED! Find 3x keychain; 3 bottles; 2 headphones, Christmas ornaments (referred to as 'balls' not Christmas anything, just "2 balls" in the game). Items could have been & should be specific to the client and to the location. The 30-something Paris Hilton-esque tabloid rich 'bad-girl' had the SAME list of items (& same photos of those items were used) as Hilda the fashion model--and the items were the same with very little variation between the scenes/locations. DISAPPOINTING to say the least. The scenes themselves were poorly executed--too dark, tons of tiny items, dark blue items on black backgrounds--you get the idea.
There are 'chips' like casino chips you can use to do several things in lieu of a hint button--a golden pen chip, for example, allows you to erase 2 items from the bottom of your list. There are chips for eliminating 10 items you do NOT need from the scene, to make it easier to spot what you are actually looking for...there are altogether 6 or so chips you can get. You start out with one of each, I believe, and one chip is hidden in each scene--they were the easiest things to find!
The visual quality was so poor, it made searching for anything frustrating. I found myself with my nose 4" from the monitor in order to find the last key chain and bottle...and a 'thermos' that was a thermal carafe.
The best part of the game was the VACATION you got to go to between clients. You are at a casino and can play Slot Machine game, Black Jack or Roulette with your earnings to try to increase them. You can then buy more of the hint chips.
There were also a couple of mini-games, one for each client that I played.
One positive note--you got to select whether you wanted to play with a countdown timer or just free play. Good thing for me!
DOWNLOAD the demo and try it for yourself. Just because I thought it was horrid does not mean you won't love it. I thought (& still do think) this idea/concept has merit for a HOS, if properly done with good graphics, client or location specific items and some variety. Also, foreign developers should have American or English people Beta test their games SPECIFICALLY for language issues. A 'roll' is a kind of bun or bread, NOT a roll of paper towels or toilet tissue--just FYI...
I don't recommend this game.

That old maxim, you get what you pay for, definitely applies to this game (unless it is regular game club price). Visuals and graphics were nothing outstanding or even above average, in my opinion; simply average. If this game was several years old, then I could understand some of the ravings of other reviewers...compared to the gorgeous graphics and beautiful scenery in most of today's modern games, this game, Eternity, just does NOT stack up--it isn't even in the same conversation!
The storyline is one we have seen many times--find Grandpa who is lost in time. The novel part may be the use of a time machine, but I have seen even that before. Once you reconstruct the time machine and get his mini-machine he's sent back for you, you travel to various periods/places in time--from caveman to Egypt (with an 'ancient laser' to help cut marble for a pyramid!) and so forth. In each locale, you have to travel to 4 sites and find items to complete some mission--from making a cart for the caveman to helping construct pyramids. The format for this gameplay is unique--4 sites you click on, complete the task or gather items & click back & forth between the 4 sites until the mission is accomplished. Nothing really new, nothing intriguing, nothing very challenging.
For example, in the first 'chapter' you find yourself in caveman times, complete with cave and caveman who speaks in English. He want fire, so you go have a HOS where you must find the items to make an axe.Take the axe to the forest, cut down trees for firewood; bring firewood to cave, but don't think you can just stack the wood in the fire ring, nope--you must click on each log in your inventory, put them together with the matches you cleverly brought along. Then, once the fire is in your inventory, you can place it in his fire ring. The reward is another mission--building a cart. All in all, there are at least 2 tasks per place/time. You get negative responses on finding Grandpa (naturally until the end). The game is so simple that a child can &, in my opinion, should do it...unless you are simply a bored adult who wants a minimally challenging point and click sort of game with a few puzzles. a few HOS, and several figuring out how to accomplish tasks given to you.
I was seriously disappointed with the game, I tried to find SOMETHING redeeming about it, but really could not. The demo lasts about an hour and according to the walkthrough, that's about HALF THE GAME!
I can't really recommend this game, but do think you should download the trial and evaluate it for yourself, YOU might like it!
I don't recommend this game.

Kate Arrow can rebuild a plane, fly it to the jungle, crash the plane, rescue herself, find missing idols, deal with jungle wildlife, repair hang gliders, meet villagers, make potions, save a shaman and do all this to try to rescue her beloved grandfather!
Of course, YOU are Kate Arrow, female wonder! You figure out how to find all the items you need to do all the repairs, figure out where items are, where keys are, and find objects in several HOS. The HOS give you some of the items you need, you just have to figure out how to use them and where/when. Having said all that, it wasn't too difficult, although I did have 2 or 3 times where I got stuck and had to resort to the blog walkthrough.
Once you've suspended your disbelief that anyone has all those skills (MacGuyver) the game was actually pretty good. Not sure that I'd pay full price for it, but it did have some of everything in it...it did seem like it was a bit on the short side--I think I completed it in just around 3 hours.
Download the free trial, that's how I got hooked into it, and make up your own mind. I'd definitely play it again and have no regrets on having purchased or played it.
I just wish I had HALF HER SKILLS!
I recommend this game!

I liked the first game of this series and tried the trial, got hooked and bought it. Unlike the first game, Engaged to Kill has far more 'adventure' or solving skills required. The graphics/visual quality is about on par with the first, or just okay, if you haven't played either. The cut scenes featuring the detectives and their Lt boss are like a comic book--not impressive. There were other cut scenes, of the murder(s) {without graphic violence} which were 'movies', however.
The 2 detective partners, Turino and Lamonte, are fairly sharp, with plenty of clever banter & some snappy reparte.
I'm a HOS fiend for the most part, but this game had plenty of adventure and figuring out what to do next in it--but none of it so difficult as to be frustrating.
There is a map, which shows you where you are to go next, so there is no free exploring--you can only go where the map is lit, whether it is a crime scene, the cop shop, an interrogation, visiting victim's family/apartment, or the forensic lab. There are puzzles in addition to the HOS, as well.
There were 6 or so Chapters--length was right on as far as investigating and solving the crime was concerned. All in all, I found it to be well done, even if I did figure out who the killer was several chapters before they did (probably all the murder mysteries I read!).
Regardless of whether you've tried the previous Special Enquiry Detail game, I highly recommend you at least download the free trial and check this game out. You begin with murder, hit the ground running.
I recommend this game for fans of mysteries, HOS, adventure or those who like detective stories/games. You won't be sorry!
I recommend this game!
