I love Domini’s games & this is no exception. This is by far the best Christmas game I’ve ever played!! The colors are beautiful, the voices fit the characters & even though there are only 3 chapters, the game is very long, which I love as u feel I’m more than getting my money’s worth. I just don’t want this story to stop because it just pulls you into to their world & you forget about this world for a while. This is also the first game I’ve ever seen that has received nothing but 5’s! Way to go Domini! Keep it up!!
I always look forward to the year's Christmas game & I really wanted to love this one but I could barely get through 10 minutes before I called it quits. The colors are just to harsh to be pretty & the Cheshire cat was too creepy with the huge, demented looking smile it had. I'm sorry to say that this was a no go for me.
When I saw this game & all of the positive reviews, I knew I had to give it a try and boy was I glad that I did. I love everything about this game; the graphics are beautiful, the music is stunning & fits with the story line & the games are different than in other that we've all played. This is a must buy game! I'm already waiting for more of their games to come out!!
This isn't my typical sort of HOG as I prefer the fairytales with bright colors but in reading reviews of another game, this one was mentioned with high praises so I decided to test it. I'm so glad I did as it's one of the best games to come out in a long time & I was hooked within minutes of playing this game. Some of the mini games were ones I hadn't seen before, which was a nice change of pace. I thought the bonus game was just the right length & stayed with the 4 characters around the campfire instead of going off in a totally different direction as so many bonus games do. I can't wait for the next installment!!
I recommend this game!

Dark Parables: Requiem for the Forgotten Shadow Collector's Edition
A dark illness has befallen the townspeople of Anaben!
I'm not going to review the storyline of a "fairy tale" I've never heard of. This was a dark game for this series & it just lost that "it" factor that had everyone excited to see another installment in was used to be a beloved & wonderful series. The scores on this game should speak volumes to the creators. It's not a fun game; it's disjointed & makes little sense, but again, I don't know the "fairy tale" so maybe it makes sense to others. The colors are bland, the artwork looks more like watercolors (not sharp & clear), the music is dark & dreary, the sounds that the hidden object pieces made when put together is annoying (but that's always been a complaint of mine) & the rain gets really old. Speaking of the hidden objects, I don't understand why the pieces have to be so hard to find. For me, these games are a relaxing way to spend my day/evening & making the objects so hard to find in casual mode is frustrating & annoying. I'm upset that Blue Tea turned over this series to another creative team who doesn't have the same skill level & has allowed a beloved series to spiral downward. I wish Eipix would take the complaints many have made to heart & take the series back to the high standards Blue Tea set when it had full control. I've never not recommended a game, but I guess there's a first time for everything.
I'm not going to go into all of the details of the story & game play as many others do this & much better than I ever could. I'm simply going to say that this was one of the best games I've played in a long time. I loved everything; the storyline, the colors/graphics, the games & the music. Anyway, this was totally worth the money. I even finished the game & went right into the bonus chapter, which is something I usually save for another day.
Each time Eipix puts out another Dark Parables game, they get a little closer to the magic that was Blue Tea Games (I wish there was some explanation for why Eipix took it over}, I'll not go into the storyline as others give a far better description than I can, but I'll just share my pros & cons of the game.
Pros:
*Beautiful music
*Better artwork
*Much better mini games. I really liked the variety as well as the different levels difficulty.
*I thought the story line flowed a little better than past stories.
Cons:
*I prefer the jewel-toned colors that Blue Tea's last game was done in. I just think that everything just looked so much better than the more muted colors.
*Some of the items in the FROGs were so hard to find because they blended in with other objects making it look like that piece you were looking for actually belonged with the piece it was "hidden" in (make sense?). I hate using the hint button, but I found I had to use it more than on normal games.
*I'm not a fan of some of the "selection" noises as it sounds like a weird growl or something. It just doesn't fit into the "fairy tale" story.
*If I need to open a roll-top desk, then lets use something more realistic than a grappling hook. That made no sense.
*Also, if the hint says that I need to find the drawer pull, then call it a drawer pull. Having a "gold swan" (or whatever it was called) in my inventory doesn't tell me that it's the drawer pull I've been looking for. Call it a "gold swan drawer pull".
*My last, and biggest, con is that don't make it where you have to put the item in the exact spot it should go. For instance, in Chapter 6 when you have to glue a tablet together, the area wouldn't accept the water, brush or glue unless it was placed in their correct spots. If it belongs in the scene, then accept it. The more times it tells me "I need to rethink my strategy" then I start to get frustrated & end up looking at the guide only to learn that I was trying to use the correct items, I just wasn't putting them in the exact spot they were supposed to be.
All in all, this was their best game to date & I can see that they listen to everyone's comments, which is great because that shows me that they value our opinions & want to better themselves. Congratulations Eipix on a much improved game. Keep up the good work!
I won't go into all of the details of the game as others are far better at it than I am, but let me just say that while this may contain a few elements of past "episodes", it's nothing like the others. There are odd creatures & the lands look like something out of Alice in Wonderland. I agree with others that Bertha made no real contribution to the game nor was she nearly as cute as the imp was. Plus her voice was on the off-key-high-pitched-annoying side. Some of the games were waaay too easy, even for a kindergardner, but I'd caution allowing young kids to play this game as there are many dark elements. It would have been better, I think, if the mood of the game was a little lighter & not so dark & moody. I loved the music & thought its odd melodies fit perfectly with the oddness of the game. I don't care for the characters looking like real people in an animated game. That's my biggest complaint with this or any other game that does that. Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable game.
The Dark Parables series has lost it's luster. I'm not going to give details on the storyline as many others have done that, just my overall "feel" of the game. The game was ok, but it didn't have that magic quality like all of the others did before Eipix took over #Mermaid was their first one for those that are new to this series#. The graphics are well done for the most part & the music's satisfactory but the storyline was weird. Goldilocks has the "Midas touch"? Since when? I guess I expected something completely different than what I got. I love FROGs but the sound that Eipix uses when the three parts of an item come together sounds like something out of a scary movie, not a fairytale; it doesn't fit the theme of the game. Also, I don't like that I have to click "continue" when the characters speak. I purchased & played the whole game, but I was able to stop & walk away for awhile. I wasn't drawn into the game & caught up in the mystery & wonder that I was when Blue Tea Games handled the series solo. I wish Eipix's would leave the elements alone & stop trying to put their stamp on this series. However, ever so slowly, they're removing their mark from each story. This was far better than Mermaid but nowhere near as good as Rapunzel.
I'm not going to give a play by play of this game as others already have. While this game is better than the last one (mermaid#, it's still not up to the standard that Blue Tea Games had set when they were flying solo on this series. Ever since they started to collaborate with Eipix, the quality has declined. I don't understand the collaboration, but regardless, don't "fix" something that's not broken.
*The graphics are pixilated at the beginning, but this does clear up. *The music's ok, but not nearly as beautiful as in past games. *The FROGs are better, though the graphics don't seem to be as detailed as in games past #little shading/detail to an object/scene# but when the fragments are put together, the sound that's made is horrible. Go back to the way it was before. These are fairy tales; not scary stories. *The story line flows a little better than the last game, but still doesn't have that "magic" that past games have.
Maybe I'm being too hard as I'm not a fan of change, especially when nothing needed to be changed, but I couldn't get enough of these games when Blue Tea was the solo creator. Now, they've become a little lackluster, which is so disappointing. I can only hope that each game will improve until they're back to the standard they were when Blue Tea was the solo creator.
Again, this is an improvement over the last game, but still not 5 Star worthy. Sorry!
