You’re out to save the day…or at least your boyfriend/husband. You investigate a rundown, but not abandoned asylum. You must help 10 patients overcome their fears; they in turn provide you with items when combined will save your boyfriend/husband.
Messy, messy, messy. Lots of clutter about, and that’s not just the HO. Lots of things to shuffle through and sort out. HO are junk heaps, items are very well hidden, no interactions just click and pick. No click penalty. Puzzles are variations of pipe, repeating colored lights etc. HO’s are in abundance here, fairly spaced out until towards the end of the game when it seems you have 3 in a row here, 3 more there. There’s still lots of adventure/investigation and thinking required. Hint fills very quickly.
No choice of game mode, there are sparkles. Music is very pleasant…but you won’t hear it unless you turn down/off the sound effects. The sound effects are very haunting (no pun)..clanking and slamming, children…everything. No voice overs (except intro). There are chapters and you can’t access some areas until you trigger them by an action. There is little to and fro.
Graphics are “dirty”, not really dark but “dingy” (?) and a little blurry, matches the theme but not difficult to see. There is text to read, but not a bad amount and the print is quite large (white text on black/dark gray background).
CE may have a strategy guide, extras include bonus play (almost 95 % HO), music, wallpaper, screen saver and concept art. No spoiler, but unless the above is important to you, I’d recommend the SE over the CE. If you want to know what happened to the boy, only the CE will tell you. Length of play is great, maybe 8+ hours, less than 1 hour for bonus play (no skips, some hints in HO).
From the cover it is not the type of game that I would choose, but I was glad I did. I tried to set the mood, played in a dark room by myself; music was low, sound effects high. It’s not scary, it just sets a certain gloomy, haunted, creepy mood….fun!

•Graphics-beautiful, looks to be painted. Colorful and easy on the eye. •Music-quick paced, taunting, but not annoying. •No map- hope you have a good memory because you will be doing a lot of backtracking and going here & there. •No journal- have a good memory or pencil and paper cuz you’re gonna need to remember puzzle sequences. •HO-so cluttered, not the same painting as other game scenes. Some items not labeled as expected, ie: I forget what they called it but it was a tong (as in food), but they called it something so off track I don’t even remember what it was. No click penalty. •Puzzles where the best, most were fairly entertaining with moderate difficulty, some were simplistically easy. •No voice over, shame would have added so much…spend a little extra on the budget; don’t add so much junk in the HO.
Overall it was enjoyable, better than Mystery of Joyville, but none where as good as Lost Town (IMHO). If you’re new to the series I recommend Lost Town over all.

What a fabulous game! For a SE price you get achievements, strategy guide, unlimited HO scenes at after you collect 40 clovers (and you don’t need to complete the game). The only thing that did not make this 100% perfect is lack of voice over. Length of play is approximately 4 hours.
Not sure if the story is based on fact or fiction, it revolves around the death of Houdini. There are ghost, secret societies, and villains…..just plain fun. The story keeps moving never letting up; you will want to finish this in one sitting. There is excitement and intrigue all the way through with a lot of adventure and searching.
• There are chapters and you are automatically “teleported” when you finish one to go to another. • The HO scenes are cluttered but not a junk pile. Items are not minuscule; there is interaction in each HO scene. There is maybe a dozen or less HO scenes (I didn’t count). **Some items are not specifically named, there is word association (that was fun!), it added a new level of interest to HO. • Quite a few puzzles, some of which I have never seen before (what fun that was!). • Graphics are not up to the standard of say “Royal Detective: The Lord of Statues” but that is forgiven for the fabulous story line. • Music is not intrusive more subliminal • Inventory items can be combined to create one item

Rather disappointing compared to other Puppet show games.
•No Map •No Voice Over •Graphics are drawn, but other Puppet Shows have better, more clear drawings..not impressed. •Music, didn’t notice it •LOTS of HO •HO junk pile, small blurry items, click penality only kicks in if you go very fast...stay slow and you will not have any problems •Puzzles, very good unfortunately some did not come with directions so you are left to figure out for yourself what to do, they do come with a skip button •Not so much to & from, you’re prevented from leaving an area if there are tasks to do. •Very short took me 2 hours & 15 minutes, and that included stopping to watch some music videos on TV with the hubby.
Not much more to say, not much of a game…Puppet show is a great series, this one was a disappointment.
If you love straight HO this would be great, if you want more chances to investigate and have an adventure you will not find it here.

Based upon completion of game…and was that a chore! Purchased on BF special sale CE for $6.99. Since it had such high ratings and raves I did not demo, my mistake. I like a few HO with my games to break up the tediousness of straight adventure, but I personally do not care for games that only have HO and nothing else. This did have some mini games which I love, but that was not enough to make this an enjoyable experience.
•The story is a good one, the art work fabulous, game play not. •Hint button that doesn’t work anywhere except HO scenes and there are A LOT of them, basically every scene! •You have a map but it doesn’t tell you the name of the area so you better have a good memory of what’s where. •Strategy guide •Morphing objects •HOS (FROG) are beautifully drawn, but the items are miniscule. Sometimes the color the item you’re looking for does not match the item displayed. •Music, I just didn’t even notice. •Voice overs are well done. •A LOT of to and fro •Bonus is locked until completion of bonus game. There is the usual concept art, music, screen savers and mini games.
I guess the rave reviews are from HOG lovers and I can understand their love of this game, it has a lot (did I already mention that?) of HO and they are gorgeous. I want a good story with my games, and this one has that but it is lost when every (seriously) scene is a HO.
So….recommend for straight HO lovers only if you want adventure/investigation choose a different game.
Not your typical run down, abandoned, disorderly hospital, there are guard towers on the perimeter of the hospital. The story takes place in the year 1915. Scientist are experimenting on patients (who are soldiers), trying to create the “perfect soldier”.
•Three modes of play casual, expert and hardcore
•No map
•Hint button will zoom in on a needed action & show you what item you will need, if there is nothing to do in that specific scene it will not show you where to go or what to do next it merely states there is no abnormal activity here (but there may be a task that you need to perform), it can be very misleading.
•Inventory, I carried one specific item almost all the way through the game before I used it. You will carry certain items for a good length of time. Perhaps my logic of things to do and places to go did not match the dev.’s intentions, this did not stop me from proceeding in the game it just meant I held onto certain inventory items longer than I should (at least that is what I think).
•HO scenes are junk pile and in some instances dark, sometimes items are rather small and yes, even in expert mode you have sparkles.
•Two types of HO, standard hide and seek from list (very limited interaction) and place items into scene. You will need to think outside the box (ie: use a knife to open a can of food).
•While there are several HO scenes (a dozen?), I would say this game leans more to adventure/investigative genre.
•Graphics are “grainy”, not crisp and clean…this is an abandoned run down hospital, so it felt appropriate to the game.
•Approximately 6-7 movie scenes that you probably should not skip as they help to understand what happened to the patients.
•Music is, well it was so “background’’ that I didn’t even notice it.
•Sound effects are very good, creaking, slamming, like a haunting should be.
•Occasional voice over by the doctor who hired you was well done, he is sick and dying, the actor performed very well with accent intact.
•Some to & fro but not excessive, as there are no chapters you have free range to roam throughout all scenes whenever and how much as you like.
•Length of play, there is a clock in your journal, mine stated 4 hours 42 minutes that is without skipping any puzzles and getting stuck (I missed the wrench).
Overall the game exceeded my expectations. It is quite challenging. Be sure to check BFG walkthrough, or if you just want a hint check the forum.
Beginners may get frustrated, intermediate challenged (apparently self-proclaimed experts as well- insert smiley face here) and hard core players, well I can’t imagine!

WHOA!!!! What a game!!! Oh my gosh, think “Resident Evil”, “28 Days”, or tv show “The Walkers”.
This is not a game for the faint of heart…and they warn you so. If you love scary movies you will love this game. There are shadows, things that jump out at you…it is absolutely fun!
• Graphics are grainy..its forgiven, it fits perfect with the theme of the game. • Music is spooky/eerie but subliminal enough to not distract, but keeps you off balance. • There is a map it does not teleport, it is more of an aerial view. • HO, there are not a lot and they are a junk pile. There is a click penalty and it kicks in on the 2nd random click. • Puzzles appear simple, until you actually do them. • There are no voice overs, and this would be a fantastic addition to the game. • There are many “movie” scenes; I highly recommend you do not skip them as it is integral to the story.
The only game that I think comes close to this is Return to Ravenhearst, but (IMHO) I think this is better! I know many of you who love RTR will beg to differ, but try the demo, I did not (game was offered as bonus purchase..and so glad I said yes). I only hope you are able to advance deep enough into the demo to get the full affect of what I am trying to relate.
This is not the type of game I would look for, and would definitely not purchase at regular price. But if you love horror movies/books, I would not pass this one up and after playing it I would gladly have paid full price!

Review based upon completion of game:
A very beautiful game, both visually and musically. The artwork is magnificent. The music is classical piano, I am not fond of classical music however, this was fantastic. The music is very relaxing; I have to say this was THE most relaxing game I have ever played.
• No map; the game is easy flowing so there is no trouble figuring out where to go or what to do. Items used are very intuitive, normal items to do normal tasks.
• There is some voice over from the main character throughout the game.
• There are 6 chapters total. It is quite a long playing game, the timer at the end stated 6 hours 19 minutes and 22 seconds. I did not skip any puzzles; hint button was used once on the organ puzzle.
• There are achievements to strive for and there are 50 puzzles in this game (wow). Puzzle difficulty progresses as the game moves on, ranging from somewhat easy to deceptively thought provoking. I did not count HO scenes, but there were very few of them, maybe 5? HO scenes were very well done, clear and full, not junk pile. Click penalty? Well I click quite fast and did not get any penalties until midway through the game then it turned the curser red and paused for maybe 10 seconds. If you click slowly there is no problem.
• There is some to and fro, but it is practically nothing to speak of.
• Plays like more of an adventure than HOG. Would be great intro into adventure genre.
I have not found any game quite like this one. It is so enjoyable to play. Please do try the demo, it is refreshingly different. If you are looking for something to relax and enjoy I HIGHLY recommend this game.

As one review stated it reminds me of the movie National Treasure. You go on a treasure hunt, and along the way provide services to accumulate money to fund your adventure. You will receive phone calls with request to seek something; upon completion you will receive payment. The calls are an access to HO scenes, which are clear although items are sometimes small.
There is lots of dialog, which you can skip by simply clicking your mouse, although you do need to know what they are saying, so you can read the dialog in the log book. There is a cell phone that is your help/hint button, it shows the shadow of the desired object and if you click the X it will bring up a grid on your screen that will narrow down the location. You also have a map that will transport you to your desired location. Music is very good/exciting (IMHO)…and love the fanfare after a HO scene.
It is a fun game; however it does hold your hand all the way through. If you want to relax and enjoy HO with a little story this is quite good. If you’re looking for adventure I don’t think you will find it here even though the constantly remind you that you are on an adventure. Personally, I enjoy more adventure in my games (some HO are ok) so this will be a pass for me. For $2.99 DD it is a GREAT buy for HO lovers.
This is a really great plot for an adventure game and I wish some dev. would follow through with the concept.
