Thankfully, I got the demo version. I lasted 19 minutes. (As further info, I was unable to give an accurate level of challenge because I was not able to get very far in the game.) There is no profile. You play as are. No opportunity to play as a second profile. Just one. There was a tutorial that was I was unable to skip. I hate tutorials to begin with, so maybe that was as annoying as the rest, but it was annoying. I tried to adjust the sound. The sound remained loud despite my attempts to lower it. The hint was not helpful. It is set up so that you click on the wanted hint once, you get some info. You hit on it again, you get more info. Etc. I was only allowed one click and could not click for a hint on anything else. I did allow time for a reset. There were two characters that you meet in the beginning; a white-clad woman and a black-clad woman. The white one was unbelievably condescending. I was hoping for a freaky game; I love checking out the mature audience only games. They are few and far between. I was really disappointed.
I don't recommend this game.

I am a veteran game player. I have purchased almost 200 games. I got the trial of this game and I am very happy that I did not purchase it. I lasted 18 minutes. There are no voice overs. The graphics are very pretty, though. Nothing could be found/removed from a scene until the item was mentioned as being needed. Very frustrating. It meant going back and forth to the same areas over and over again instead of gathering everything and moving on. Because of this the game play was exceedingly slow. I ended up using the hint button a lot to actually find the pieces needed. (In this case to make a lantern) They were almost impossible to find. Remember, I have almost 200 games, most of them HOS/Adventure/Puzzle. I am not a novice. And I hate using the hint button. There was a tutorial that I was unable to skip. Seriously annoying. There is only one level of challenge. I did not play with the music on, so cannot answer for that. I was expecting a plot line along the lines of Alice in Wonderland, but it seemed to be about missing girls. And the research into the Alice in Wonderland story was non-existent: Alice's surname in the game was Dodgson, not Liddell, which was the name of the person that the character was based on. Alice in the story did not, if I remember right, have a surname. Again, I didn't play long so it's possible that this gets better, but I didn't see the point of carrying on just to "see the end". Playing felt like a chore, not like fun. And games should always be fun.

I have played all the games in this series. I loved all of them. The graphics are gorgeous. The story line matches up with the other games; it is a true sequel. The puzzles were good, the HOS not invasive or annoying. But most of all, what this game has, is a real and true (not usually seen in SE, not so often in CE, and rarely this well done) finishing chapter that lets you know where/how the story line started. That was the clincher. Everything is wonderful, I really have nothing bad to say. And the ending... not forced, not pushed, not rushed... and a great way to end. Also.... a great way to begin a prequel series,

Let me start by saying that I thought that the story line was terrific. The visuals were very fitting, crisp and well done. The music suits the game very well. However...
I like adventure/hidden object/puzzle game mixes. I do not like an overabundance of HOS. There were almost 40!! HOS in this game. Sadly, they were all of the garden variety junk pile games. No variety at all. Variety would have made this over reliance on HOS to be more palatable. This is the main reason for the 3 stars.
There is no map; however, there is no real need for one.
There is no journal. I had to use a pad to keep track of codes, etc.
The hint button would give you a list of where you could get what you needed next, and was both helpful and not helpful at the same time. You still had to do a lot of searching. You only got the general areas.
It's a good game and the ending hints at a sequel. If you are really into HOS, this is the game for you.
This game grips you from the start. The plot line is new - while you might think you've seen it/heard it before, you are shortly disabused of the notion.
Obviously it does have HOS,but these are not just the same old list of things... there are many different variations, keeping the game fresh. As the game is long (yay!) it is very important to keep things fresh.
I am into my 6th hour and this is high on my list of favorite games. I have yet to try to rush through it, using hint excessively. (On games I do not like, I will do this to see the ending.) I am playing for one ending... I just might play the game again to see the other one.
I like this game. Really. The graphics are great, the voice overs well done, story line interesting. HOWEVER... the HOS are sooooo very irritating that I can barely give this 3 stars. My rating of the fun factor has been totally skewed because of the HOS. They have ruined the game. You are not given the standard list in a pile of stuff. You are given pictures to find. And sometimes the picture is only an idea. Sometimes it's to be put together (picture of hair + ribbon and you have to figure out which item is the answer). Sometimes use. Each HOS has at least 3 parts to it. Just as soon as you think you are done, there's more. I can't even begin to relate how annoying this is. I'm not a fan of the traditional list HOS, I enjoy things off the beaten path, but this takes the cake. It has killed my enjoyment of the game. I want to see how it ends, but I now see that I am racing through the game with lots of hints just to finish. Wish I hadn't bought the game.
While I guess this is technically a HOS game, you only get to use two scenes and you keep going back to the same scenes. Luckily, they move some of the pieces around. You have to pay coins to open new areas. Then you have to find 3 unrelated things to open and "win" that section. But really, you just go back to the same person. Who tells you to collect 3 more things. Ad nauseum. You collect objects thru these mini "adventures". And when you look in your inventory, well, you can sell them. Oh - and it listed only 2 of one object I have 5.
Sound confusing? It is. And there's a tutorial. Yay.
There is not one redeeming feature to this game. Not one. Hopefully, Big Fish Games will stop making/selling these games. If this is the future of their gaming, I'll have to find a new place to get games.
No journal, no map, no meaningful hint. And slow scene change.

This is the slowest game ever! And I mostly mean the time switching from one scene to another.
There is no helpful "hint" ... not ever. Telling me to search the grounds and castle is as annoying as it is useless.
There is no journal. I had to write all the notes on a pad. Not a pad in the game, a pad I was keeping on my desk. Either that or keep walking around constantly re-reading everything. And some of the information disappears so it cannot be re-read.
There is no map. None. Not interactive, not position, none. Which wouldn't matter so much if my notes were saved in a journal.
The story line is really good, the puzzles in the good range. Average to good graphics.
But the hint? If you're going to ask for a hint, you ought to get a hint.... or be honest and don't even bother to put in a hint button.
If not for the map, journal and hint problem, I would give this game a resounding- 4-1/2 stars. I did enjoy it outside of these.
I loved the Dark Parables series. I was thrilled that they started a new series. I actually think that the crooked man is better than anything done before. EXCEPT the CE bonus game does not pay to buy. They only use 2 different types of puzzles in the bonus and it's really irritating. They could have fleshed out the bonus into its own game, and I wish they had. But the main game? Nothing bad to say at all. The SE is more than sufficient. Save your money.
I thought that this game had excellent premise. The games were just hard enough, the graphics good quality. For anyone interested, the game had an interactive map. The only problem I had with the game is that it was on the short side. Other than that, a good buy.
