There are many CE games that don't have the qualities of this old SE game. Set in a far away country in a far away time, a mother and young daughter set out to rescue the husband/father. Great depiction of strong women/girls and gorgeous artwork. Although this is a Frog (fragmented hos) which I don't usually like, this one was fascinating and doable and because there was always another scene around the corner, one didn't get bored. I was sorry when it came to an end. There is another to the set, Mystery Age: Liberation of Souls and I'm playing that next. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.

This amazing game was issued in 2011, so written in 2010, but the CE version actually has collectibles called “Beyond Objects” (In the main game only; I don't know how many I found, because they never tell you, but I think I got most of them). Excellent adventure story, as Kate, a writer who does paranormal novels, is contacted by her ghostly grandmother to go to a sort of “Flying Dutchman” of houses, which randomly appears at different places around the world. You learn what it is about during the game. The bonus game is another story about Kate, vindicating her grandmother and friends whose reputations were ruined when they accused a prominent man of killing the lover of his daughter. Because he had the money and power, he silenced them; at least in this life. Kate needs to find the body and reunite the lovers. There were allusions to Ouija boards which I suppose was ok, I thought it was just dumb and didn't really add to the game. Both games are riveting and great for HO lovers, although there were some pretty good puzzles in there too.
Again these are not action packed zippy games, but fun adventures with a more leisurely pace. And they are _long!_ One almost gets spoiled with these older games that give you a lot of game for your buck. I'm off to play the others in this series, after a break. I find it's best to alternate the types of games I play so I can appreciate them more:) I highly recommend this game.
Nice old fashioned game with few bells and whistles, but thoughtfully written. It helps if you use a magnifying glass like I did, some of the drawings are tiny and not so well drawn. (I got a child's one, and it works fine.) Excellent HOPA with a lot of HOS. No map, and the hints are limited: you need to pick something in your inventory and pull it over on top of the hint and then it will show you a picture of where it can be used. This is only helpful if you've already been to the place you need to go, so don't be too anxious to get hints. But if you wander around and click on things you will figure it out. Actually I found it relaxing and challenging at the same time. One funny thing, if you click “too often” in the HOS a fog arises all round and you have to wait to go on. But if you wave your cursor back and forth you get a wave of rainbow colored mist which is amusing rather than the old just freeze the game that is so irritating. This is only in the HOS'. Every place else, go ahead and click away! It’s a very long game too, so you get your money’s worth. I found myself reminded that we've been sort of spoiled with all what some call "hand holding" in newer games. There is no urgency in this old game, you are encouraged to explore and figure things out. There is another game, a companion to this, that I will try out in a bit - it's called Mystic Diary: Lost Brother. I really recommend this game to HOG fans:)
One of the reasons I like Big Fish is that they have a wide variety of games, so everyone can find something to like. This is one of those games, looking at the review numbers, that you either love or hate. But keep in mind that just because you don't like it, doesn't mean its a bad game! Just move on and you'll find something that really suits:)
This stand alone tale reminds me a lot of the beautiful old games like “Enlightenus” (fabulous game by the way and still available on BF!) It has some of the still, wonder-like atmosphere of the early days of classic myst type games, with that eerie haunting quality. A good balance between adventure/HOS and puzzles, great imagination and outstanding art work. All these work together very well in Iselin Saga.
Be warned, it is a very short game, I think it took me about 2.5 – 3 hours. That being said it is beautifully done and a real pleasure to play, and because of its uniqueness, will be a nice game to replay every couple of years.
The developers did an excellent job and I hope there are more coming from them.
Fun! Old lady shows her policeman son how it’s done. I especially enjoyed the effects: If you click too much/often bullet holes zing through your screen! Mama sits up on the right hand side and gives advice and lists of things to find, and covers her head with her hands when the bullets fly! Many more Easter egg humor as well.
And I was about to leave the game when I finished it, but noticed that this little SE had a bonus game! You meet some of the staff and have to find outfits for them to wear (through HOS) as you get to know them. One of them, Ekaterina, wore a lovely Russian head dress, and from the names I’m guessing they are Russian or based in Ukraine or Belarus as many of the devs have been.
An incredibly funny and fun game by a now defunct company, (At least there web site isn't working) With all the trouble they’ve had over there recently I hope these folks are alright. Anyway I salute them for a delightful game; I wish there were more! Highly recommended:)

I enjoyed this game, but the thing that makes it unique is following a mysterious letters to find a historical treasure. The puzzles were a nice mix of easier and challenging. The final puzzle was a hum dinger, trying to place 17 colorful objects in a box without the same colors touching each other. The views of the interior of Buckingham palace were lovely; I've never been so I don't know how accurate they are. Of course when you throw a whole bunch of random objects on top of the scene it loses some of it's grandeur;) Still, all in all a great way to learn a bit about history and have fun. I very much recommend this game.
Your friend, Mary, disappears and it's up to you to save her. Uncover an exotic land with unearthly secrets as you find and help your friend leave the flying island.
I thought this game would be a SF/F game, but really it's more SF. A floating island appears above earth and two young women help them restore their damaged biosphere so they can go home. I was surprised that most of the puzzles were more mechanical and space oriented, which I've always been a lot better at than maths! I really enjoyed putting the mold killer together with all the different shaped bottles and creating the mold killer from scratch with the help of an obliging jelly fish! And even though there are no collectables, the search for clues and objects made that sort of thing redundant. The game is relatively short but it took me about 4 hours over a couple of days to finish. A real find when you can get it with a free credit! I highly recommend this engaging game.
Your librarian friend wants your help as a journalist – he’s found an ancient book that is still unfinished. Can you save the world in the book before their story ends?
This is, literally, an enchanting game. Full of whimsy and light hearted adventure in a magic land where you are called to set things right by a flustery fidgety rabbit, who is some sort of aide to the King's court. Not a new story, but well told and plenty to be doing. Just the thing when you are tired of dark, dreary and depressing:) This is one everyone can play, except those who require difficult, obtuse and dangerous. This is one where I can play with the great nieces and nephews and everyone has fun. Colorful graphics, clear and precise, but not too easy. I loved this game!
You've been asked to cover a highly anticipated competition in New York City when something goes terribly wrong. Can you escape the world of illusions?
I found this is a terrible game, half the length of the first, no fun at all, a completely different atmosphere, going from a fun, intriguing game to a generic slick copy of every other story about illusionists and the theater. Very sloppy planning (when you go to click on a group of objects to choose one, it automatically takes over and clicks every thing for you ‘til you are left with only one object; or it put things you need to click on so close to the hint button that you can inadvertently click on it and it solves the puzzle for you. Very frustrating. I was very disappointed in this game. It certainly is not worth a CE designation by the length; the game and bonus chapter are shorter than just the original main game (Dangerous Games: Prisoners of Destiny, which I highly recommended) Save your money.
You came to the town of Brownville, Louisiana hoping to find a new job. But you weren't expecting to stumble upon a strange adventure in a world filled with beauty and danger!
Invited to a small charming town in Louisiana to find a job with Simon, an employer who wants people to play for free in his casino. It all seems to good to be true; and of course, it is.
Bright cheerful cartoon like graphics, lots of HOS and adventure as you try to save yourself and your friends from this deadly “game”. This is a lot of fun and well worth replaying:) I found 32 of 40 puzzle pieces. I need to pay more attention in the first part of the game:) The puzzle pieces are well hidden. I also liked the rabbity little creature that helped me. It wasn't intrusive, and added to the lightheartedness of the game.
