Overall, I really enjoyed this game. You play as a detective trying to figure out how to stop the thorny vines from taking over a nearby town. The graphics are really nice and the voice overs are well done. The background music was okay, but I seldom like any background music. The FROGs and mini games were fun. There was a built in SG, but I never used it. The bonus content was wallpapers, screensavers, music, mini games and two versions of the fairy tale (which was a nice touch). There are items to collect as you play the game, which is always fun.
The one annoyance was the "map." It consisted of small images of the location(s) where items needed to be finished. The images were small on my laptop and I had difficulty figuring out some of the locations. Since I played the first three games in this series out of order, I was glad this type of "map" didn't continue in the next two games. I thought about rating this game as four-star, but I enjoyed the game so much I couldn't knock a star off the rating.
I liked the story and it had a satisfying ending. The bonus game was okay, but not as much fun as I was hoping.
I enjoyed playing this game. You play as the detective and are searching for missing children from the village. You enter the snow kingdom and go from there.
The graphics are excellent. The voice overs are well done, but the music was a bit annoying so I muted it. There are lots of places to visit and items to collect to get the back story. The FROGs and mini games are fun to play. There is a map that is helpful most of the time. There is a SG that you may have to use at a couple points in the game.
The story had a satisfying ending and I enjoyed the bonus chapter. This is a long game, which I like.
I recommend this game and am looking forward to playing the next one in the series.
I really enjoyed playing this game! It involves several fairy tale characters and you play as the detective looking for the Chancellor's daughter and her bodyguard. This is the firs Dark Parables game I've played and will certainly be playing the others.
The graphics are excellent. The voice overs and ambient sound is good. I muted the background music, which annoys me in every game. The FROGs were fun to play and some of the objects were hard to find. The mini games were fun, but relatively easy (which was fine with me). I really enjoyed the story line and the multiple locations to visit during. There is a lot of back and forth to various locations.
There is a map to-do list. The map is not interactive, but you will need it at various points during the game. The map can be a bit confusing, but once you understand how it is laid out, it is highly usable.
I recommend this game and look forward to playing the other DP games.
This is an older game, but it is fun to play. There are some annoyances, but nothing extreme. You are looking for your twin sister who has gone missing. Once the train dumps you at the "end of the line," you are to being looking for your sister. You meet several people along the way that add to the storyline.
The HOS are fun to play and not total junk piles. There are flowers to collect along the way. The mini games are easy to complete (which is fine with me). I muted the music after a few minutes of game play. The voice-overs are good, but the ambient sounds are annoying (especially in HOS scenes). The graphics are good. There is some back-and-forth between scenes.
There were two annoyances. The first was a "paint the picture" mini game. Unfortunately there is no way to paint it to match the example picture. The second was towards the end of the game when you are trying to access a secret room. I won't say to much, but if you get stuck check out the forum for this game.
There is a diary, task list and strategy guide. There is also a store, but it is pretty lame. There is nothing in the "store" that you need to complete the game.
The ending was satisfying and the bonus chapter was a nice addition. Overall, I recommend this game.
I enjoyed this game. It is not a complex as some of the newer games, but it was fun to have each vignette be in a painting. The music was appropriate for the game and the ambient sounds were good. The game is linear and the goal is apparently from the beginning. The graphics were nice. There were no voice-overs, all dialogue was text (but there wasn't a lot of dialogue). The objects you have to find are not in junk piles, so that is a plus. The games are easy, which is fine with me. Overall, I recommend this game for those who are wanting a fun-to-play game that doesn't require intense concentration.
I recommend this game!

PuppetShow: Lightning Strikes Collector's Edition
The women of Paris are being turned into puppets! Can you find out who's pulling the strings?
Unfortunately this game has taken the PuppetShow collection in a totally different direction. You still play as the detective, but now you are in Paris and working to discover who is killing young women.
You can play this game in "steampunk" or "classic" mode. I used classic because I get tired of steampunk after a while. The graphics are excellent (this is an ERS game afterall), the cut scenes and voice overs are okay, the iHOS are okay. The mini games are a mixed bag, some are fun and some are lame.
The game is linear and way too helpful. You have a task list, a map (which I seldom used) and a built in SG. There are collectibles that you have to find in each scene and there are achievements you earn throughout the game. The extras include screensavers, wallpapers, music, replaying the iHOS and mini games.
The storyline was not that engaging in my opinion. The game had a satisfying ending. The bonus chapter was short and not that entertaining in my opinion.
I really enjoyed the first five PuppetShow games, but was disappointed in this one. I got the CE on sale, so I can't complain about the price. I would not pay full price for this CE.
I'm torn on whether or not to recommend this game. If you have to play every game in a series, then go for the SE (and try to get it on sale). I would not recommend the CE of this game.
This is an excellent game! This is the fifth installment in the PuppetShow collection and it is the best yet! You are a detective and you're back in Joyville trying to find and free the Puppet Master.
The graphics are excellent, the cut scenes and voice overs are very well done, the music is fine, the iHOS are fun to play and the mini games are varied and fun to play. You have a journal with information about the story, the characters and notes you pick up along the way. You also have a map that shows the location of "to do" items. The map is not interactive. There is a built in SG which is nice.
Shortly after the game begins you acquire a puppet who helps you at various points during the game. You also acquire hat patterns for your puppet as you move through the game. There is a special puppet house where you construct the hats. You can have your puppet wear the hats if you wish. The hat thing was quite entertaining! I switched hats on my puppet several times.
There are also dolls to collect during the game. There are not many of them, but definitely look for them. After you complete the game and bonus chapter, be sure to visit the doll collection for a special cut scene.
The ending of main game was satisfying and the bonus chapter was very good. The other extras include wallpapers, screen savers, music, concept are, replaying iHOS/mini games/cut scenes. I thought the CE was well worth the price.
I highly recommend this game and am looking forward to playing the next game in the series!
This is the fourth edition of the PuppetShow collection and it is excellent! In this game you are helping Felicia change her past, so you are back in Joyville. You have to stop the evil Cricks and free Felicia's father.
The graphics are excellent, the cut scenes and voice overs are well done, the iHOS are fun to play and the mini games are entertaining. You have a journal which comes in handy. There isn't a map, but you don't need one. There is a built in SG which is nice.
The end of the main game was satisfying and the bonus chapter was fun to play. The bonus chapter seems to set up the next installment in the collection. The other CE items include music, wallpapers, screen savers and concept art.
I highly recommend this game and am looking forward to playing the next game in the collection.
This game is fun to play and the beginning of the Puppet Show series. You are a detective that has been called to help find a missing boy. It is obvious this is the oldest game in the series, the graphics are more "cartoony" then the newer games, but it is still fun and is an excellent start to the series.
The graphics are very nice, the cut scenes are well done (there are no voice overs), the music is not bad (and I usually don't like the music in games). The HOS are nice and some objects are hard to find. The mini games are fun, but not very difficult. There isn't a map or journal, but you don't really need either. This isn't a CE, so no built in SG (but you don't need one). The ending is satisfying and sets up the next game (Souls of the Innocent).
This game begins the story of the Puppet Show games. I played the first three games out of order, which is okay, but would have been more enjoyable if I'd played them in order.
The game was so much fun to play. You play as a detective who is trying to help a mother revive her daughter who has won't wake up. The puppets, of course, are up to something again.
The graphics are amazing and the cut scenes are well done. There are no voice overs, put the "dialogue" is easy to read. The iHOS are good (some objects are hard to find) and the mini games are fun. You do not have a journal or map, but you really don't need them. The inventory is held in a "Tools" area that fans out when you need it.
The ending of the main game was satisfying and the bonus chapter left you hanging for the next chapter in Puppet Show. the bonus chapter is short. The other extras consist of music, wallpapers, screensavers and concept art.
I really enjoyed this game and the Puppet Show series. I highly recommend this game.
