The story behind the game is macabre and interesting but I found myself using the HINT button alot. The graphics weren't my cup of tea either. I love HOS so that got me through to the end of my trial. Needless to say, this didn't go onto my wish list for the next sale. Maybe I just didn't "get it".
:P
I don't recommend this game.

I was infatuated with this game from the start. I was instantly charmed by my new eye-candy companion, Dupin. His help and comments were very welcome. The graphics were very appealing. The music fit the setting perfectly...making me want to book a trip to the French countryside. The rotating scene of Paris in the game cursor is a pleasant touch. The storyline appealed to the pirate fan in me : a friend is convinced he's found clues to Captain Kidd's treasure. Who is trying to stop him from finding it?
I found the puzzles readily challenging. The HOS were also very intricate. I enjoy a good brain work-out.
I appreciate games that include helpful animal companions. Early on, you end up with Arthur, the Newfoundland dog. He is able to help with clues and gives the experience a cozy touch.
This is a must-have game for HOS/Puzzle/Adventure fan!!
I recommend this game!

I'm sure we've all wished that a toy would come to life at least once in our fleeting childhoods...maybe even now. :P
The storyline was unusual and eerie. For some reason, the games with children in them always give me the creeps.
I found the HOS very challenging and I enjoyed the interactive elements. I spent more time in the HOS in Luisa's room because of the distractingly adorable and loudly purring kitten.
I enjoy games involving companion animals/creatures that come along to do your dirty work. This game features an angry cat trapped in a fire box that ends up in your inventory.
This was a very entertaining game.
I had minor issues with the personality of the mother character and the expressionless faces during cut-scenes.
Only the mouths move. It just looks wrong.
I recommend this game!

Pros:
~ Storyline - compelling and suspicious - new to me - want to buy the full version eventually to see how it all turns out.
~ HOS - different puzzles in each one - kept things interesting.
~ Graphics and Music - appropriately creepy with bonus dreary ambiance.
~ Map - very helpful - indicates where tasks can be completed, how much of the map is left to open up and areas where "Beyond Objects" remain.
Cons:
<> When I have to use the HINT button, I prefer to have a clear text message not an area surrounded and illuminated.
<> I thought that the main character was a dude. :P
I recommend this game!

After reading all of the earlier reviews and noticing that this was listed as the #1 game, I decided to give it a try.
I was thoroughly creeped out by this game. It actually gave me the chills. The graphics are stunning. The music was appropriately unnerving and the storyline had me hooked. There is a sense of urgency and also a feeling of having to look over your shoulder. I was convinced that things were going to spring out at me during the HOS.
Definitely not for the younger age group. The evil toys are enough to give mine nightmares.
This is at the top of my Wish List now.
I recommend this game!

The HOS in this game involve matching a pictured object to something that it belongs with. That was an interesting twist and I enjoyed the animations in the puzzle.
This game also has a camera to take pictures with so I got to be a paparazzi for an hour. That gave me the giggles as most of the creatures were not pleased to have their photo taken.
I recommend this game!

Based on the trial version in casual mode:
This game was very interesting with appropriate spookiness.
The storyline was intriguing/creepy and new to me. It left me wanting to know how it all turned out.
- There is an adorable psychotic rodent running around damaging things and being cheeky.
- The hint instructions in casual mode are very clear and helpful.
- There is an option to switch from HOS to Match 3 mode.
- There is an indicator that tells what % of the game is complete.
I recommend this game!

I nominate this game to win an award for BEST GRAPHICS/DETAIL! I was amazed at how real everything looked and the scuttling rats/insects/ethereal mist added to the ambiance.
My trial hour passed way too quickly while enjoying it all. I found this game delightfully challenging. After only one hour, I had knowledge of over 10 things that I needed but hadn't acquired yet. It wasn't just a matter of needing something and it automatically popping up in the HOS in the same area. The HOS are very well done and you're flying blind without a map. I like a game that can keep me busy for awhile.
I also enjoyed:
<> Bats hovering above HOS instead of sparkles
<> Ambient sound instead of music in main game. Appropriately creepy noises. Soft music in HOS that doesn't seem to loop.
<> HOS with a corpse. I mean, how cool is that?
<> Scribbling noise when notes are taken. Notebooks lighting up doesn't always work for me. Detailed notes with pictures.
<> Intriguing storyline.
This is my favorite game now and I will be purchasing the full version. <3
I recommend this game!

This game has a playful creep factor without being disturbing.
Items in the puzzles were cleverly disguised/camouflaged which made for a nice challenge. I enjoyed the historical tidbits in the journal that gave a bit of background information.
The lack of a map and task log are a bonus if you want to figure things out on your own but might be confusing for a player who suddenly finds themselves lost.
My only complaints were two objects hidden off-screen that required me to use the hint button to find them and the angry mob spokesman's facial expressions didn't change while ranting and raving in the cut scene.
I recommend this game!

This game kept me enchanted for the entire hour of the trial. I barely got through the restaurant area before my time was up.
:(
I will definately be purchasing the full version.
: HOS that are interesting to look at and include interactive elements. I was able to find everything without hints and nothing was off-screen.
: Intriguing Plot
: Excellent balance of cut screens, puzzles, hidden object areas and tasks.
: Calming music and sounds of the sea.
: Comedic elements in the messages and dialog that gave me the giggles. Scuttling crabs and other cute distractions.
: Brownie points for using skeletons, mushrooms and the Kraken. We be pirate fans. Aarrrrgh!!
: Nothing in the first hour that would be labeled as "scary" or "gross" by my 7 year-old so she will be playing along as well.
I recommend this game!
