Your librarian friend wants your help as a journalist – he’s found an ancient book that is still unfinished. Can you save the world in the book before their story ends?
I only lasted through the intro. When I saw the demon in the chair declaring I had to do things because he was my master, I exited. I'm sick to death of these demon-based games. They publish one after the other with each one getting worse. I'm offended by the witchcraft and pentagrams throughout MOST of these games. I want an intelligent game, a well-crafted story and challenging puzzles. Why is that so difficult for the game developers?
I just don't get why so many games have 5 stars when they don't warrant them. In fact, I just don't trust the reviews anymore and that's why I'm trying to be honest with you here. THIS GAME IS CHILDISH AND EASY. It would be great for a beginner, but the game is VERY SHORT. The story line is worse than a preschooler's book, no kidding. The puzzles and HOS are simple. They are so simple a 3 year old could easily accomplish them, IMO. PLEASE PLAY THE DEMO before you buy it. I would hate to see you waste your money if you're an expert or intermediate player. No challenge at all.
Everybody else has written about this game and done it much better than I probably could except only one other person has mentioned the most crucial negative to this game.... YOU WON'T GET THE END OF THIS STORY IN THIS GAME. It ends VERY ABRUPTLY and you have to wait until fall 2014 for the next part. NOT FAIR!! I wasn't going to write a review, but I honestly thought you all should be warned of this.
I would suggest you wait for the SE and SAVE YOUR MONEY.
IF YOU'RE A BEGINNER: I think you will find this game very interesting, easy to accomplish (except for a very few of the achievements,) with the bonus chapter completing the adventure. I would recommend that you use the map to follow where you have actions available to accomplish because there is quite a lot of running back and forth. You will enjoy collecting the frogs and keeping your strength up with the morphing objects. You will also enjoy having to use your imagination to come up with some uses for your little dog Elf. If you haven't played too many hidden object games, this story will draw you in and take you on an exciting journey. The puzzles are all doable, but one or two may give you a little challenge.
FOR INTERMEDIATE PLAYERS: No doubt you will find the concept of an invisible village of people intriguing, that's kind of a new idea. The story will seem rather the same old "let's defeat evil" concept, but that's what these games are about. I think you will find the helper dog cute if you like those things, but not particularly useful. The mini games will all be doable for you with some of them being a little different. I don't think any of them will stump you. You will like having the map to avoid a lot of running around and the hint system is adequate if you get stuck. You'll enjoy the gorgeous graphics and doable achievements. You will also like how the bonus game ADDS a lot to the ending of the main game. Nothing in the game will be too difficult for you and I believe you will enjoy it from beginning to end.
FOR EXPERT PLAYERS:
In spite of the "invisibles" story line, I think this game will feel tired and same ole, but it's not bad. The games will be too easy for you. None of the games took me longer than a minute or two to finish. I think Elf the helper dog will just slow you down and maybe irritate you if you're not into those things. I also think having to keep your character alive by collecting morphing objects will disrupt the flow of your gameplay and become irritating. The achievements are simple and easily attained. Basically, this game will be fun for you, but you won't feel like you've accomplished anything at the end. It's just not challenging at all. The bonus chapter is worth having because it adds to the ending of the original story, but it's also easy. If you're main goal is to enjoy a game, this one will do just fine. If you're looking for a challenge, this one will disappoint you.
BASED ON ***COMPLETED*** GAME AND BONUS GAME ON EXPERT LEVEL
BOTTOM LINES:
IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER: you will love this game. It holds your hand the entire way through (a good thing for me when I was a beginner,) the puzzles are super easy and the art is exquisite.
IF YOU ARE AN INTERMEDIATE: you will probably like this game and it's characters but be disappointed in the easiness of the puzzles. You will be able to travel through it quickly and may think it's too short. I thought it was short and the bonus game had nothing to do with the regular story.
IF YOU ARE AN EXPERT: you will definitely be disappointed in the lack of challenge (the games are VERY rudimentary,) over-used story based on a fairy tale and the hand-holding going on throughout the entire game. Even on the most difficult level, this game is like going back to kindergarten after receiving a master's degree. Save your money.
Hope this helps you decide if this game is for you.
BASED ON ***COMPLETED*** GAME AND BONUS CHAPTER ON INSANE MODE WITHOUT HINTS OR SKIPS
I had stopped writing reviews because I was tired of seeing reviews by people who had only played the demo. I don't think those reviews should be allowed because it's not fair to the game or the person trying to decide on whether to purchase the game.
That said, I have to say a few things about this game. First of all:
GLITCH WARNING: Halfway through the game, when I had to put an angel with a triangular base into a case, the game refused to take the second of the two angels. I uninstalled, re-installed etc, and it was still stuck. I had to completely restart the game and when I got to the two triangular-based angels, wait until I had them BOTH before I inserted either. Only then would the game take the second angel. That was a LOT of wasted time, so be forewarned on that one.
The game is basically as others have described, but I found the puzzles extremely easy. A lot of them were literally connect the dot. It's a well thought out game, easy to beat and interesting to play. The achievements were VERY easy to earn.
The ending left me a little irritated but the bonus chapter wrapped it up satisfactorily.
Good luck and enjoy. It is worth the price, but it's not an expert's game.
BASED ON COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS CHAPTER ON HARDEST MODE
This game isn't as good as some people say, nor is it as bad as others say (in my opinion.) I enjoyed playing the game, but the game IS very easy and a bit SHORT. The story is rather interesting and it moves quickly, perhaps too quickly. The graphics are rather blurry to my eye, but the voice overs are well done. It's NOT worth the money for a CE in my opinion.
Pros: Interesting story Moves quickly Music adds drama You get to visit several different dream worlds, all interesting Achievements are easily attained No demonic symbols or pentagrams (which I despise)
NEUTRAL FOR ME: You have TWO COLLECTIBLES, roses in the main story and sailboats in the bonus chapter.
CONS: VERY easy Short game Graphics need to be crisper
You thought this would be just like any other investigation. But now you find yourself lost in a mysterious mansion brimming with strange creatures, comatose colleagues, and mysterious tentacles around every corner…
BASED ON COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS GAME ON HARD LEVEL WITHOUT HINTS OR SKIPS
BOTTOM LINE: This is a very imaginative, super creepy, journey into a deranged mind that can be very challenging at times (without hints.)
PROS: -The map! Without the map this game would drive me crazy with all of the backtracking. The map is a jump map that indicates where you can accomplish something AND it tells you when you have completed a section. -The graphics. They are easy on the eyes and well drawn -The voice overs. The acting is superb and the lip sync almost perfect. -The creep level. This game is full of creepy, dream-induced scenery that felt like I was having a nightmare (the intention of the devs) -The strange creatures. For the same reason as the creep level. -The story. The story will take you into other peoples' nightmares and when it does, it throws all of reality out the window. There are no holds barred as they play with your senses. Really cool, scary and may make you question your own sanity. -Many different scenes No chance you'll get bored with the scenery as you get to go into so many different ones. -HOs. I personally like silhouette HOGs because they are more of a challenge. Some are also just interactive. They are easy to see and although some objects are cleverly hidden, there are no dirty tricks. -MINI GAMES. Wow. There were a LOT of new games in this some of which I found quite challenging on the hard level. I wasn't bored with any of them.
NEUTRALS (for me) VIALS. You get to collect vials but after you collect them all, there is nothing to use them for. I guess it's just an achievement. ACHIEVEMENTS. They were way too easy to earn, so I wasn't a fan, but you may like them. ZOO. After you help the odd animals, they go to your zoo, but the zoo has no purpose other than "storing" your animals.
CONS: -Music was boring -There were some unrealistic uses for tools that may lead you to be frustrated (clue: try everything in your inventory, you may be surprised at what the scene wants you to use) -VERY PRECISE CLICKING REQUIRED. If you don't click on the EXACT part of an object, it will reject your tool and you may think you have it wrong. I don't like that and I think it could be discouraging for beginners. -The extra chapter was a BIG let down. It's a chapter about Dr. Blackmore's childhood and supposedly explains why he's so crazy, but it doesn't do an adequate job of it. You won't be missing anything to wait for the SE.
REVIEWED BASED ON COMPLETED GAME IN HARDCORE LEVEL
I don't believe in giving storylines away, so I'm just going to tell you the nuts and bolts .... that way you can be surprised.
PROS: Very interesting introductory scene, makes you want to get into the story right away Lots of gorgeous colors, which I enjoy Background music was beautiful and advanced the emotion of the game Story is nothing new, but it is still interesting and it kept me glued to the game 3 different levels of play On hardcore level, you get to choose whether to use the map or not, which I advise u to use or you will be backtracking a lot Multi-dimensional story line takes you through many new and interesting scenes and moods Lots of easily attainable achievements Collectible bells which are easy to find Two helpmates, which I don't usually like, but in this instance, they were used intelligently and for practical reasons not just cuteness The jump map is both useful and beautiful (really cool) The story wraps up nicely so you don't need the CE bonus chapter The bonus chapter can stand alone and is fun to play The mini games are rather new and a bit more challenging than normal The characters are very like-able without being too saccharin or childish The bad guy is good at being evil without being scary
CONS: I thought the game was a bit short The HOs were a bit washed out making some objects hard to see The further into the game you go, the MORE cluttered and brownish/washed out the HOs junk piles become, so you may need a magnifying glass Story could have been a bit more original
BOTTOM LINE: I think everyone will enjoy this game. It manages to be an adult fairy tale that is neither too silly nor too scary. A very pleasant adventure for all levels.
This was supposed to be the happiest day of your life. But instead of walking down the aisle, you're in another dimension, battling a mad inventor to save your family!
Bottom Line: This is a well-made game interweaving an over-used story line (which I won't ruin by disclosing) with extremely easy (almost kindergarten level) mini-games and hidden object puzzles. Would make a GREAT beginner level game but left me, an expert, feeling unsatisfied.
PROS: well drawn graphics good voice overs characters you can like bad guys are not so bad your kids can't play the game 164 eyebot observers to collect for an achievement side bar tells you if you have collected all of the eyebots in a scene and if not, how many are left Dragonfly helper bot to use to earn another achievement HOS (hidden object scenes) can be switched to play match 3 games instead Very nice interactive jump match that shows you where you need to complete a task 3 play modes Music is unobtrusive Story takes you between two dimensions Many different scenes and "feels" to the game so if you don't like one area, you're sure to find one you DO like Lots of EASILY earned achievements Strategy guide, but I don't think you'll need it Bonus chapter is entertaining, but pretty predictable (not worth buying the CE for)
CONS: The mini games were extremely easy, way too easy, a child could do them without any problems The characters don't have necks, they look like their heads are sitting right on their shoulders (bothers me because I'm an artist) The HOS are basically junk piles; nice and pretty, but still junk The story is the main flaw in this game. It is very simple, comic-book in style with a mad scientist. I found myself getting pretty bored with the story. I would call it mediocre at best. This is not an "intelligent" game. The only way I can describe my disappointment with this game is to compare it to cars. A sedan is a good, old fashioned family vehicle that will get me where I want to go, BUT, I'd rather get there in a well-tuned sports car. I hope that makes sense.
