My review is based purely on the demo, so to be fair, do give it a go. I stopped playing it before the demo ended as I got quite bored quite quickly with it. It looks like this developer has tried to do something different, but in my opinion, I don't think they have succeeded. However, like I suggested, give it a go, you may like it. A definite no buy for me.
I did enjoy this game, though am on a budget now so will wait for the standard edition to come out. Great graphics, good storyline, but there was one thing that really, really did put me off it....the accent of the character started off with a Scottish brogue, but veered towards a Northern Ireland accent. It ended up a mixture between the two which I found really irritating. Such a shame...however will be a good game if you turn the sound down
There's something about the essence of the older Mystery Case Files that is missing from the later ones. I used to get quite excited waiting for the next one to come out, but that feeling has now gone. I replay the old ones, which I enjoy more I have to admit, and I think this one will be the last one of the series that I will purchase. The MCF games are no different now from most of the HOG/adventure games out there. It's getting like Groundhog Day when a new one comes out. They have the odd nod to the older games (references to Madame Fate for example), but that doesn't make it any more appealing. I don't know whether it is the developers Eipix who are to blame, or whether I have expectations that are too high. Sadly the end of an era, but thank goodness I still have the older games to play when I need a nostalgia fix.
I cannot believe I missed this game when it first came out. I followed the storyline from start to finish, couldn't wait to find out what happened next. For a story to keep my attention, it must be good. I usually skip over a story after the first couple of sentences, but I actually paid attention throughout. Well done to the developers, can we please have some more of this type of game?
Although I have enjoyed playing Broken Hour, I do feel the essence of MCF is missing of late. It doesn't really feel very different to a lot of the Eipix games, although they are good quality and quite enjoyable to play. There was something special about the old MCF games when BFG did them, now that originality seems to have fallen by the wayside and to be honest I am quite disappointed. I really look forward to new MCF games, but I think the magic has now ended and I will be replaying my old games to recapture that feeling. It's such a shame as I have been an avid player of MCF for many years, maybe it is time to move on. I do wonder how many others feel the same? I have given the game one star less to reflect my disappointment
A mysterious fortune teller has foreseen her demise at midnight this very day. Can you find the soul who seeks to kill Madame Fate? You be the detective.
I bought this game many years ago, and have lost count how many times I have replayed it. It is a pure nostalgia fest for me, and strangely feels like an old friend. If you haven't yet bought this game, then you must do so immediately, you will never regret it.
This review is based on the demo, but just had to buy this game. I try to avoid buying collectors editions - am trying to be a little restrained in my spending - but have fallen for the storyline and the absolutely charming scenery. I became so immersed in the story that it was a surprise when the demo ended. Enjoy! :)
I realise that I am a bit late in reviewing this game - and I include the Serpent of Isis in this review - but I feel I have to say how much I really like this game. I have replayed it quite a few times now, and each time I have found it as enjoyable as the last. For replayability (is this a word or have I just made this up?) value, it is well worth the money. I have no negative points to make, and it may seem a little old hat compared to some of the all-singing all dancing games that are out nowadays, but I always come back to this one :)
To think I nearly missed this gem of a game. Feels quite 'old school' but had me hooked from the start. Am quite bored with the 'all singing all dancing' games recently, and it makes a refreshing change to have a game that really makes me think. Am glad to be off work for a couple of days so I can play it :) Well done to the developers, and please, can we have some more???
