A human called Theron has fallen in love with Zeus’ daughter Artemis. When Zeus finds out, he whisks Artemis away. You play as Theron on a quest to find and reunite with Artemis. PROS: *Relaxing *Lots of HOPS *Lovely Mediterranean, underwater, and volcanic scenery and Greek classical architecture
CONS: *Not many ambient sounds *Not a very long game *Not for beginners or those who want direct hints rather than vague clues *No BFG walkthrough - You’ll have to use another, like YouTube-
GRAPHICS: Has an oil-painting look combined with real objects look to it. Natural colors. Fills the whole screen. HOPS: 20 ? EASY to SEE objects. Straightforward word lists. Many are attractive to look at because of the oil-painting look. PUZZLES/GAMES: Only fix circular mosaics, 6-8, and repel various weaponry that is targeted at you by clicking on them, eg Zeus’ thunderbolts and so on. SOUNDS: Music and Sound. The environmental sound effects are very minimal, but many of the tunes are nice. HINT: ONLY in the HOPS, otherwise the hint only gives you a verbal clue. However, the clue isn’t always for the next step. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: 3 MAP: NONE, but not necessary since game is divided into chapters INVENTORY: Remains visible at all times. JOURNAL: You get some pages of notes to document your journey. CHARACTERS: You meet the gods and characters of and around Olympus. No voice-overs, you read. The cut-scenes are narrated.
Based on the last 2 Dark Romances, I wasn't expecting this to be quite my cup of tea. BUT THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT! Loosely based on the Greek mythologies, you have an Underworld full of fire and brimstone type scenery; the trees are scorched/bare and barren, and crumbling buildings, perched on high, look menacingly down at you. Dark brooding clouds roll by and thunder rumbles constantly. The story is captivating and the music is outstanding. Spaciousness has been incorporated into the scenes by clever design, having both architecture and nature’s creations at many points in the scenes and pathways, near and far. The regular world, with its mosaics, fountains, tiles and columns, has fresh blue skies, distant clouds, all kinds of rocks and mountain formations, in and around the turquoise and emerald waters. You’ll meet characters on the way at regular intervals, but mainly you’re on your own.
GRAPHICS: Stunning scenery of ocean, mountains and the Underworld. The actual composition and construction of the scenes that you see, works well and is effective. Although the graphics are not of the super-clear variety, everything works well and is visible. HOPS: VERY ENJOYABLE to play and look at! Good visibility. Interactive: find # morphing objects, so that you can continue to wordlist interactive or silhouettes. (Once or twice translation mistakes, eg Helm instead of helmet -but that’s all). Lots of armor, weapons, jewelry, olives and wreaths.
PUZZLES: Plenty with range of difficulty. Mainly straightforward. SOUNDS: FANTASTIC SOUNDS: I’m glad I bought the CE for the music alone- you get the sense that you are embarking on a voyage! To be honest this is one of the first games I’ve listened to the music all the way through. The music is not constant, and the ambient effects are full and effective, which then fill in that space, bringing the game to life. Most actions are accompanied by the appropriate sound - you do not play in silence in this game, unless you choose to. Thunder and water sounds have full dimension of frequencies and depth without sounding artificial. Wear your headphones.
HINT: Complete help. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: Usual 4 MAP: Travel -yes INVENTORY: Lockable JOURNAL: NOTES were somewhere for sure, and you get replayable videos.
CHARACTERS: Full of personality. Hades was done well, and Poseidon and Zeus are as you’d expect them to be. I think all the characters you meet on and off are done well and voiced well. The Heroes/Heroines are serious and honorable.
CE : Usual stuff plus, COLLECT 38 GOLDEN OLIVES/BRANCHES to furnish your statue collection appropriately (the more you collect the more you can ‘buy’), and find Collectibles which have of all sorts of mythological information on them. BONUS GAME: Very good, some Icarus, some Minotaur. About half a dozen more HOPS in the bonus game! A moving and surprising Minotaur-based story.
(As a few reviewers have noted, it does get a little uncomfortable when the guy chained to the rock is being attacked by the Eaglebecause of his agonized yells, and yes, I also removed my headphones until that portion was complete.)
Loved the craziness of this game. Everything was good. Thoroughly enjoyed the first 80%. A game for anyone of any age, since the game does not veer into the territory of creepiness or horror. Which land do you belong to? Are you really who you think or are? Are you sure, or have you forgotten? I’m pleased to announce that YOU ARE SHREK! No, sorry, Shrek is not in this. But lots of princesses are and they don’t even know they are of royal lineage! The graphics were excellent. The HOPS and puzzles were enjoyable. Great sounds throughout and the usual 4 options of difficulty for a 2016 game. There’s a map and the inventory is lockable. There is some interaction with characters on and off. In this the CE, the bonus game is ok but not great. I think the SE would be a great choice, although the little bits of info on the collectible characters did add extra to the game and I’m not sure if you’ll get that in the SE or not.
A good game set in England. I liked a lot of the characters in this, especially the charming, aristocratic, alcoholic helper Quincy, and the driver in the red bus who turns up intermittently and doesn’t seem to follow a real schedule! The question is, why is Florry the ghost creating havoc, throwing things around and attacking residents? Mostly your work will require you to stay in the village, but you will get to venture out to the watermill and local park garden too. One of those games that draws you in at the beginning but then plateaus out. The environment, people and objects are a mish-mash of past and present. The characters and storyline were interesting enough for me to want to complete the game. GRAPHICS: OK, but NOT GREAT. For 2 reasons, although in some places the graphics are great, in other places they are strangely flat and lacking depth. NOT MUCH LIGHT FOR A MODERN GAME! Yes it’s evening, but there needed to be more highlights of sunlight or moonlight, or lamps to make the graphics pop! I’m really glad that there are no crazy colors though HOPS: About 12 interactive. OK. Not stunning to look at. Oooh! There are 2 food HOPS. About 6 more in the CE bonus game, if you get the CE. PUZZLES: A few, mixed ability. SOUNDS: 4 options. The music is very good, and the environmental sounds are good too. HINT: 30 seconds on casual. Watch out! You might get a window where you can scroll up n’ down or even side-to-side. However, you won’t that! There are no indicators to tell you that, so you’ll just have to try. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: Usual 4 options MAP: Travel INVENTORY: Lockable JOURNAL: Yes, but not much in there. CHARACTERS: An interesting mix.
CE BONUS GAME: If you get the CE, the story is very good, and there are more HOPS, closer together. The graphics however, remain the same and disappointing. The bonus game revolves around the mystery of the ghost Quincy. CE MORPHING OBJECTS: I found the morphing objects particularly difficult to spot, and got just under half of them!
Well, have fun in Avebury, Wiltshire…and good luck on your assignment, Detective!
Remove obstacles and solve problems while visiting a person's mind. The problems you must solve metaphorically represent hurdles/problems in the comatose person’s mind. By solving them, you will find out who the person is,and what has happened to them and will help them to recover - you hope. Not disturbing and not bloody, even though there is the dagger at the beginning. The theme makes it seem like a potentially twisted story. But no, it isn’t. This game has a slower pace. Infact, at one point I left it to play something else. When I came back to it 2 weeks later, I’m glad I did. The first half is great, then it falls into a lull, but then the last section leading to the end is good; so ¾ all good! I liked many of the different scenic settings.
GRAPHICS: Good, detailed and scenic in many places. HOPS: Some good, some ok. Not difficult to find. PUZZLES: Mix of ability of puzzles. SOUNDS: Great division of sounds. Almost constant environmental sounds, without having to listen to music. HINT: 30 seconds to recharge on casual DIFFICULTY LEVELS: 3 options, all interchangeable during the game. MAP: Travel map with useful indicators INVENTORY: NOT lockable JOURNAL: NONE, but the video cut scenes are replayble even in the SE. CHARACTERS: Are done pretty well. However I found the baddie in the long, black dress annoying and overly dramatic. Also I muted the voice-overs, since when letters were being read, it seemed to last forever.
I thought this game was excellent and created a wonderful atmosphere from the start. Set in England, using authentic English voice-overs, you travel around to all kinds of settings: small houses, mansions, parks, Hotels, China Town…You will know from the first 5 minutes of trialing this game if it’s your cup of tea. I was looking for a change of genre, not fairytale, nothing occult and nothing sci-fi, although I do love all of those too! This fit the bill. Great graphics, sound effects and a storyline. The violence is minimal and only extends to seeing some dead bodies, and very little blood. There is A LOT of talking, but that is also part of the charm. If you click where the written words of the conversation appear, then that whole section of discussion will be terminated (it won’t move to the reply of the next person). The map doesn’t take you to locations, but I didn’t mind, because I found the game scenes interesting to be immersed in. Nice artwork in many places. I wish I had bought the CE so I could’ve played the bonus game too. From the screenshot of it, which appeared at the end of the main game, it looked as if the Bonus Game was set in beautiful countryside.
GRAPHICS: Excellent, clear, detailed, natural looking, artistic, enjoyable to look at. Very nice back-drops. HOPS: About a dozen. PUZZLES: Varying in difficulty. SOUNDS: 4 sounds…hooray! Full sounding environmental sound effects, separated from music. If you listen to the music much, it is nice. HINT: Will lead and show you where to go and what to attend to, but NOT what item to use from the inventory. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: 3 - You CANNOT change levels during gameplay. MAP: Very basic. Indicators are present. NOT travel. INVENTORY: NOT lockable JOURNAL: NONE. CHARACTERS: Excellent English voice-overs. There was something strangely entertaining about the characters at times.
This is the second installment in the Brink of Consciousness series. I trialed the first one, Dorian Gray but didn’t play it because it seemed a lot darker/chilling/disturbing in nature.
PURE HOPS game. What a fantastic find. Can’t wait for the next in the series. The scenes are chock-a-block with well-hidden items. The scenes are like panoramic snaps of moments on your cruise, and of the many stops you make all over the continents. I especially loved all the outdoor scenes, the ones on deck and the many land-stops. Extra fun includes special items that earn you extra points! Easy puzzles, like jigsaws and flip the squares around to form a picture are also present. What I loved also, was that although the scenes are static, there is usually some movement that makes you feel like you are really standing there watching the scene - always something, like a distant, slow-moving jet-skis, or a plane. The quality of the graphics matches the current games of 2015-2016. There are NO voice-overs. The characters appear in front of you, head and shoulders, and then you read.
I recommend this game!

This has to be one of the most relaxing games I’d played in a long time! STATIC Scene HOPS with minor movements. Your HOPS are interspersed with: match 3, easy jigsaws, and spot the difference. There are 3 shells to collect in each scene. As you collect more and more shells you get more days (more HOPS) at the end, extending your vacation! The graphics are good. While I was playing this it was easily my favorite game. Lots of different scenes, with each scene being repeated 3 to 4 times. I can’t really put my finger on it, but this was such a good game. If you’re in the mood for HOPS alone, want to spot well-hidden objects, go on vacation to Hawaii then you might enjoy this. The only drawback was that some objects are quite small and the screen doesn’t fit the whole screen.
This game is not scary, but atmospheric. In fact the demons look more like cute gremlins, and they gabble in little mouse-voices. At first I found them jarring, because the rest of the game is pretty serious. However, I soon got used to them and got to like the silliness of them. There’s quite a bit of outdoors in this game later on: woods, swamps, watermill… You get to discover who made the contract with the devil, when and why and why it should concern your daughter.
Things I really enjoyed about this game about this include: find logical pairs (usually 10 to 12 pairs). You get to play this HOP type game 6 to 8 times. These pairs are not matching pairs, but pairs that go together for one reason or another. The sound effects are also very good throughout. GRAPHICS: I thought the graphics were done pretty well. Neutral colors. I especially liked the watermill chapter. Does not fit the whole screen. HOPS: Very well hidden. Occasionally difficult to see. PUZZLES: A lot of interesting puzzles of varying difficulty. SOUNDS: Music and Sound Effects. I listened to the music on and off, because it wasn't bad at all, also it wasn't constant and it did add to the game. Great sound effects. HINT: Will lead and show you exactly what to do, but has an annoying habit of having a pause of 5 seconds between each scene. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: Casual/Expert. You CAN change level during the game. MAP: NONE. Not required due to chapters. INVENTORY: Stay locked. JOURNAL: YES CHARACTERS: Minimal interaction with cartoon-like, 1 foot high, gremlin-like demons. You learn about characters from the past through cut-scenes.
I recommend this game!

I had a blast playing this game. The location is a sleepy town and the Haunted House on the Hill stares down at you. Save the day, but not without a twist! Eat tasty cakes! GRAPHICS: Loved the backdrops, the quality of the graphics, and the spooky atmosphere created by the scenes. Different times of day and night add to the sense of the passage of time. HOPS &PUZZLES: All good. SOUNDS: FANTASTIC. Wonderful stereo sound, like the crickets echoing from ear to ear and in front (wear headphones). Every moment there is some kind of sound effect going on, and they add to the overall quality of the game BIGTIME! HINT: Good but won’t give you everything. For example, about 3 times you have to collect items to use to perform a ritual or cleansing etc. The Hint kept circling the item in the inventory that was the item being added to, but wouldn’t tell me where the next item to combine with it was. There is a Walkthrough available for this game if you look it up separately, so you do not need the Strategy Guide in the CE. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: 4 choices MAP: NONE INVENTORY: Lockable JOURNAL: NONE CHARACTERS: There's a good mix of personalities. Lisa was done so well, that it added subtle humor!
If you decide to purchase the CE, the bonus game is about an hour and is equally enjoyable. Collectables in the CE include: cats and symbols/artifacts. The artifacts come with an explanation of what significance they hold in different cultures, with respect to the occult, eg immortality.
