Well, I changed my mind about this game! Perhaps I was in a different frame of mind previously but now found it to be very interesting. It got more interesting the more I played it. The characters are strong and the voice-overs done well. It isn’t a run-of-the-mill,cookie-cutter replica. Great graphics too! The bonus game in the version of the Collector’s Edition is very good too. It isn't as creepy as some other games I've played, and I don't think the warning was necessary.
I recommend this game!

I liked the setting, the story and the graphics style. There is substance and intrigue and the story builds gradually as you make discoveries all on your lonesome. The campus is deserted, find out why, and where your son has disappeared off to. Not overly ornate, but mysterious atmosphere. No character interaction. You have to work out A LOT for yourself, even in Casual.
GRAPHICS: Realistic looking for the main part. Clear, with neutral palette. Fills the whole screen.
HOPS: NONE
PUZZLES: A few, and usually difficult.
SOUNDS: 2, music and sounds. Well balanced. The music certainly suits the mysteriousness.
HINT: Doesn’t feed you all the next steps. It will circle an area on the screen, but not what to use. Many times I was stumped and roamed around, wondering why it kept saying there was something to do “here,” but couldn’t find the way through, until eventually I cracked it. It was the particular way in which I had to do something (eg NOT zoomed in). If you use your hint prematurely, you will have to wait for it to recharge. Apparently there is a walkthrough on YouTube, but I didn’t use it. There are 3 levels of difficulty.
MAP: Is a jump map. The map will tell you where you are, and if an area is completed.
INVENTORY: Will get LOADED! Had 19 items at one point, but usually there’s 7 to 10 in there. The GOOD thing is if you press the side-arrows the inventory will be set in motion, like a conveyor belt, so you can view your items efficiently (took me an hour of play to discover this!)
JOURNAL: YES and you will need to refer to it.
I recommend this game!

NEW SCENES! You have lost your husband and you must continue to try and find him! Solve the mystery…It does get into the occult.
GRAPHICS: Really nice looking, with natural colors. I loved diving into the different scenes, all kinds of rooms and outdoor spaces. The scenes are different and new to the first game. Fullscreen. Some items are very small, very well hidden and blended. If you need all the objects to be very clear, don’t play this game. I didn’t get eyestrain, but I was pulling the computer towards me on many occasions. I recommend max brightness for your computer screen.
HOPS: HOPS ARE the entire game. You get each scene 2 sometimes 3 times. But there are tons and tons. You can swap between different HOPS within the same chapter by selecting the ‘postcard-type’ icons in the lower right corner of the screen.
PUZZLES: There is usually a puzzle thrown in DURING the HOPS. 1 or 2 per chapter. Mostly straightforward.
SOUNDS: 2. Music separated. Great! Voice over and background sounds are good.
HINT: Takes 30 sec to recharge. No choice of difficulty, there is only 1. One problem with the hint is that during the HOPS, it will only circle 1 item, when 2 are required for interaction. The other 1 remains lurking! This was solved by using a “walkthrough”. Google “walkthrough for Letters from Nowhere 2” and it will appear. Because the game is chaptered, it was very easy to look up specific help.
MAP: Not required.
INVENTORY: NONE
JOURNAL: NONE
CHARACTERS: Mainly story told by lady searching for missing husband. No lip movement. But great voice-over.
EXTRAS:
*** Every “so many points” you get a choice to buy a “souvenir/bonus” which will be hidden for you in all the scenes of that chapter. Find them and they do different things to help you gain points and find objects! So much fun
***Unlimited mode: achieved for HOPS on 50 stamps and for puzzles, after 32 black cats. You can go back over the HOPS to collect any missing cats.
I recommend this game!

Another game that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Just an absolute classic. It has everything, creepiness, seriousness, determination, and bonds of unconditional love. Great graphics and fantastic story. Loved it! An in-depth story, with thorough characters.
GRAPHICS: Awesome, clear, enjoyable to look at. I used aspect-ratio adjustment on the Widescreen.
HOPS: 10-15
PUZZLES: Plenty
SOUNDS: Great, and separate to music. Awesome and captivating music and sound effects.
HINT: Will lead you and show you what to use. Difficulties are Casual/Expert.
MAP: Yes, but I didn’t use it.
INVENTORY: Lockable.
JOURNAL: Yes
CHARACTERS: Believable and likeable characters with personality. Lip-sync is spot-on. Great voice-overs.

Thoroughly enjoyed this game. Great atmosphere from the start, with an introduction that sets the whole scene. Creepy & well made with not a dull moment. The type of graphics I love. You’re in Africa! A big house and a village, set in the middle of nowhere. Loved the whole thing. A grown up type of story, rather than teenage horror stuff or fairy tale. Will DEVS ever start making games like this again, with normal colors and stories with depth? I hope so. I’d love more games like this.
GRAPHICS: Clear. Filled the whole screen, but I used aspect-ratio adjustment, because it looked too stretched out on my computer.
HOPS: 10-15, word-lists with a few objects requiring interaction.
PUZZLES: Mainly easy.
SOUNDS: 2, music and sound. Great background sounds, and separate to music. Music evokes Africa and was appropriate and enjoyable for however long I listened to it.
HINT: Will lead you, but not show you what item to use. Takes 30 seconds or so to recharge on Casual. Your other option for difficulty is Expert.
MAP: NO map
INVENTORY: Not lockable
JOURNAL: Yes
CHARACTERS: 4 main characters. You play as John the ex-believer. There is no lip-movement when the characters speak.
I recommend this game!

Older game. First review on BFG 2011.
Crystal chandeliers, scroll-work, ornate furniture, paintings that look 300yrs old or more, plastering the hallways, dark, musty and crumbling in parts, beautiful and authentic looking. A scene or two took my breath away, with the shadows and light streaming in. Made me jump once or twice too! I would have preferred more places to go though…
GRAPHICS: Nicely done for the most part, but a little blurry in places. Looked best as full screen on my computer.NATURAL LOOKING COLORS which I liked.
HOPS (you have an option to play a mini-game too): Plenty, 20-30 I think. Some very well hidden. I recommend turning to max brightness your on computer too. I pretty much enjoyed them all, but a few were a little too congested, and instead of being a collection of hidden treasures to discover, became a more of a junk pile. You get a mini-game option as an alternative which you can toggle to (which I loved).
MINI-GAME ALTERNATIVE: I LOVED THE MINI-GAME ALTERNATIVE!! It was similar to a match-3, but with no switching of shapes. As long as the shapes are connected vertically or horizontally, and are a minimum of 3, they get removed. Your accumulated successes result in a charged POWER-shape, which you can use on any line. You get barriers to break through as the difficulties increase. I might have scored this game lower, if it wasn’t for this redeeming fun-factor!!
PUZZLES: Occur regularly and some enjoyable games are included as part of the story.
SOUNDS: 2 sounds. Music is separate to environmental. But the environment is tied in with the voice. Towards the end I wanted to MUTE that voice.
HINT: 2 levels of difficulty and you CAN change between them during the game. Takes 5 seconds to recharge on Casual.
MAP: TRAVEL map. However, each time you use it, you get a spinning clock accompanied by a fast whizzing. Unpleasant. I looked away, but the sound was still present…
INVENTORY: NOT lockable.
JOURNAL: Yes, a diary with Objectives and Notes.
CHARACTERS: Minimal character interaction. The character you play has speaks with an English accent, and I liked it at first, but eventually I found it too detached. You cannot mute the voice without muting the background sound
I recommend this game!

Not your typical game; so different to what is coming out in 2016. I felt like I’d watched a funny movie. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. You get to play as both Brad and Janet. Their car having broken down outside the European village of Franken Burg, they meet various characters in their quest to get back on the road, and get involved in the lives of the villagers. The only thing I didn’t like were the pointers on the screen showing you which directions you have the choice of going in. Beginners might find it frustrating because of the hint style.
GRAPHICS: Loved the scenery, the crumbling outside of the castle on the cliff, the European style village, steep hills with cobbles, the Tudor houses, the windmill, the farm… You get widescreen or full screen, both looked good. Colors were NATURAL looking.
HOPS: 15? The look of the HOPS was more basic, but they were so much fun. You get a giant floating eye to indicate HOPS.I discovered accidentally, that using the scroll on your mouse, you can zoom in!! Infact you can zoom in at any point anywhere in the game! Great idea! Nothing was too hidden.
PUZZLES: 15? You get a floating jigsaw puzzle piece to indicate puzzle to do.
SOUNDS: EXCELS IN ENVIRONMENTAL SOUNDS, which vary as you move from place to place. Music was nice but repetitive and thankfully on a separate control. No voice overs. Note, there is no volume control inside the game. If you switch screen option, from the main menu options, you will see your computer task bar, and so you can change it from there (well, you can on mine).
HINT: Takes about 90 seconds to recharge. There are no choices in difficulty levels. The hint will give you written clues what to do next. No leading. No circling of items.
MAP: NONE, but you really don’t need it. One way leads into the village, and one way leads out. The farm and the woods lie outside the village and it’s all one big circle eventually.
INVENTORY: NOT lockable, but once you click on the word ‘inventory’ it stays up until you move on to a different scene. You need to drag items.
JOURNAL: NONE
CHARACTERS: Very, very good. Someone has given these characters PERSONALITY. There are no voice-overs. What they say, how they respond, and their facial expressions say it all! You read their conversation.
EXTRA: You get hidden Frankenstein Monster faces in the surroundings to find, which give you bits of trivia on the subject
I recommend this game!

The charms of this game lie in its lovely background scenes, both in nature, and spacecraft related, inside and out. Where distance and perspectives are involved, the artists have created and delivered.
A little alteration in the pointer system, sound system (voice-overs don’t bother me) and visual clarity of the HOPS and this game would easily have scored a 4* and perhaps even a 5*.
A problem of the gameplay, was that the pointer didn’t have consistent patterns; sometimes the end of the pointer would spin as a wheel to indicate you’d be able to do something at that specific location, or a magnifying glass, but at other times there was no clue and it was only by way of the hint that it became apparent.
GRAPHICS: Looked great on my computer as full-screen.
There’s a bit of a mix going on with realistic and cartoon together. If I did choose widescreen, the graphics on my computer were too stretched out, and lost definition and attractiveness.
HOPS: A lot. They were OK, but sometimes difficult to see; lacking definition and small, so each time there were HOPS I had to make a quick change to Widescreen. Increase your computer brightness to max.
PUZZLES: A problem in the puzzles was that sometimes I was sure I’d completed them, but I’d have to “skip” to continue the game.
SOUNDS: At times unbalanced and inconsistent, for example when you correct the volume, it does not apply to the start-up page, which then gives you a surprise each time you start. The sound effects are sadly tied in with the music. So to hear waterfall sounds and waves from the sea, you have loud music too. The music is electronic keyboard sounding, appropriate, just too repetitive. There is something odd about the overall sound too, a echoing, dull sound, rather than bright and balanced.
HINT: GOOD hint. You CAN change difficulty once you’ve started. Hint took 30 seconds to recharge on casual. It WILL lead you and show you what’s required and where.
MAP: NONE, but not really necessary, because the game has chaptered playing.
INVENTORY: NOT lockable, but it does stay visible for 4 seconds once you’ve clicked on it i.e. it doesn’t jump up and down if you accidentally brush by it.
JOURNAL: You get an electronic device. It records some items, like instructions.
CHARACTERS: There are no voice-overs. You read.

Wonderful “SPACECRAFT” type areas with realistic-looking, aged metal and spot-on perspectives and equipment. The experiments and the method of keeping subjects under control are touched on, but the game steers clear of delving too deeply into gory/disturbing subjects beyond that. I did not feel uncomfortable.
GRAPHICS: TOP-NOTCH. I really enjoyed the spaciousness in all environments and never felt cramped. NATURAL COLORS, which I loved. 3 options for screen width, windowed, full-screen and widescreen (windowed kicks in if you uncheck the other 2).
HOPS: Plenty. I didn’t enjoy these as much in this game. They were OK. Wordlists with minimal interaction and silhouettes.
PUZZLES: I enjoyed most of them.
SOUNDS: 3, Music, Effects, and Voice. Music WAS separated, and that was good. HOWEVER, ONLY CERTAIN sound effects were available eg doors opening and closing. Rain, and an electric force-field were left devoid of sound. Would have been 5* for me if they were present.
HINT: Good hint system, which will lead you and show you what to do if you persist.
3 difficulty levels which CAN’T be changed during game.
MAP: NONE, but hint is good
INVENTORY: Yes, lockable
JOURNAL: YES
CHARACTERS: OK. You play as one of the sisters. The none-sister characters (aliens and 1 other) were done well. Overall, not much interaction.
I recommend this game!
