All the elements that makes a game great is manifest in this game.
The artwork is excellent--clear, high def. Voiceovers are appropriate to the character visualized. Takes place in a contemporary setting with a supernatural bent. The story features the classic desire to preempt strikes on a looming disaster. The HOPs and puzzles have just the right mix of variability suitable for all skill sets, without yawning with boredom.
Hardcore mode allows for Hint, skip, and even helpful messages.
The special effects are good, with movie-like cut scenes. Transitions are good, and plot is easy to follow. You have a mystical bracelet that glows cluing you to put up the bracelet to interact with the mystical creature.
I loved this game. It is an outstanding value for those who love a good yarn with hidden objects to find.
Loved this game compared to the 1st game in series.
The story is intriguing. There are lots of creative, magical touches throughout the game. There is a good mix of HOPs and puzzles, all of them easy to mildly challenging. The HOPs are varied, ranging from find objects from outline shape, items highlighted in a story mode, interactions, object fragments, morphing objects, etc. You can always opt for mahjong game instead of look for hidden objects. And you can change difficulty settings any time.
Expert mode disables Hint & skip, but helpful messages remain and are more than adequate for expert players.
The artwork is very nice. I do wish they would provide high def for all the video cut scenes, which appear at lower resolution than the actual game.
I remain impressed with the team who bring us these games. They are highly creative and 90% of the time, they give you a quality game well worth its price.
What a refreshing change to have a game that doesn't take place in Victorian haunted house.
The inspiration of the story appears to be Philip Marlowe, with Fox investigating the death of his former girlfriend Barbara.
The puzzles and HOPs are not hard at all, even on hard mode, which allows Hint, skip, plus indicators, and helpful messages.
The voiceover for the protagonist has a British accent and sounds older than the character drawn, and one of the bit characters has a mousy voice. Except for these two, the VOs are appropriate to character.
It's not a fantastic game, but very enjoyable to play. I hope to see more in this new series perhaps?
The title of the series is appropriate, as the story revolves around the myth of Vulcan and Venus.
This is a fun game to play. Expert players will find the puzzles too easy, but newer players will enjoy.
Hint, skip, and helpful messages are allowed in Hardcore mode, just longer intervals.
As you acquire mythic artifacts (lower right), these have to be used in order to access new mythic scenes.
The game itself isn't very long, but there are many video cut scenes, which are well thought out to explain the background of the plot and transition to new places to explore. The voiceovers are good and not too slow or too fast and matches the close caption perfectly.
I would have given 5 stars, except the artwork is not as nice as I would like, and the high definition quality varies--some places excellent, and other places a bit blurry.
The story is easy to follow and better than average. It draws quite a bit of inspiration from Roman myths, which is nice for those with a literary bent.
I have played games in this series, but was continually astonished by how good this game is compared to previous ones.
The devs have really stepped it up and offered an outstanding game that is fun to play and a visual feast for the eyes.
The story is easy to follow and a variation of the Snow White and Sleeping Beauty leitmotif.
The artwork is fantastic--high def, movie style cut scenes, good special effects, wonderful to look at.The protagonists are movie star-gorgeous, and even bit players are good to look at.
Puzzles are easy, even on Hardcore mode. Only 2 puzzles made me change to Advanced mode so I could skip.
The HOPs are varied and not boring and not plentiful, but just enough to keep junk pile addicts satisfied. You can always play match 3 as an option.
The only little flaw in the game is the voiceover for the Queen doesn't match the drawn character and I found the voice annoying, like scratching on a chalkboard. Other than that, the VOs were good and appropriate to the visual appearance of the person.
As usual, the game is played from 2 perspectives, one male and one female. There is a locket at bottom left and it glows when you need to change perspective.
Well done devs, hope to see more like this in the future.
This game transitions well from background story and providing clues to progress. The HOPs are varied and includes morphing objects, interactions, etc. Most puzzles are easy. Artwork and special effects are excellent--clear, high def, and fun. Voiceovers are mostly good, but some voices seem to come from one person doing multiple personalities. Storyline is easy to follow and does not get bogged down in farfetched scenarios. Altogether the elements come together for an enjoyable mystery adventure.
I rather liked the game. It's old school, for sure, but has its charms, as well as major flaws. The charms: --takes place in India, which is not common for HO games. --the artwork is nice, with decent special effects --Indian style background music --nice balance of HOPs and puzzles Game flaws: --no reset button for puzzles --only 2 game modes, easy & hard. No hint or skip button on hard mode, but helpful messages are sufficient for expert players --no Main menu button to get out of game --voiceovers do not match the dialogue caption. Voice for protagonist detective is more childish than adult.
Puzzles are mostly easy. There were 2 puzzles that vexed me, but managed with persistence.
I say give the demo a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Not sure why this game hasn't received better ratings. I found it excellent. This is one of the few games with consistent high def images throughout, including cut scenes, intro etc, The story is good with appropriate transitions between giving background story while dropping hints for the detective adventure game. HOPs are relatively sparse, but varied, and there is Match 3 for those who dislike junk piles. Puzzles range from easy to challenging, but there are 2 modes (easy vs hard) for all games. Hard core mode disables hint & skip, but helpful messages allow one enough clues to proceed without much help. You can change the game mode at any time. I very much liked the game, and think it's a definite buy.
I bought this game sight unseen, based on having purchased the 1st in series.
I love Jewel Match Royale, but the rules for this game I DID NOT LIKE.
There are 180 levels in the CE. You build 8-9 castles with emeralds earned from the match 3 levels. After completing each level, you can explore the Gardens, which is another match 3 board that earns you STARS, and then there's a bonus board where you earn GEMS. The stars allow you to buy animated gifs such as flying birds, ducks, squirrels, statues, ships etc. GEMS buy you bonus mahjong, hidden objects games, and jigsaw puzzles. COINS allow you to buy powerups. It makes for a really long game.
The amount of time allowed for each level is reasonable, but there are multiple boards for each level, and back and forth between boards you thought you finished, but not always (follow the arrows).
What I didn't like was if you didn't earn enough GEMS the 1st go round, you have to repeat levels with extra rooms in order to earn those GEMS. I found that a royal pain.
It would have been better if they allowed you to play those gem boards on their own to get as many gems needed to play those extra bonus games, not repeat the level to get to the gem board.
The castles are pretty nice, but not outstanding. Several look like rehash of castles from older games, with a small face lift.
The storyline is forgettable and who cares, but it is a little extra to develop.
Overall, I liked the game and the offerings, but object to the format described above. They need to let loose a little.
This is one of the few games I bought sight unseen, but after reading reviews. There is a lot to like about the game.
Things I liked: -200 levels of solitaire. This is the basic 1 up or 1 down match of cards. I played on Casual mode and was surprised by how hard it was to achieve 3 stars on each level, even at the beginning of the game. You really need to buy as many power ups as possible if you want 3 stars each levels, or play the levels over and over again as needed, earning coins each try (even if you try again). - 50 levels of mahjong (bonus game) - instead of castles, you are building love scenes (hence, the title of the game) with lush gardens and manors in the background. No winter scenes, as love is never cold.
What I didn't like: - the face card graphics are average, ie not great. - mahjong tile graphics are also just average.
You get a lot for the money and will play this game for weeks to complete all levels. I found this a refreshing change from castles, and am grateful that the theme is Valentine related rather than Halloween. The graphics are good, but not exceptional and breathtaking. However, I love this series and hope the devs will continue developing similar game formats, perhaps with a focus on English manors or French castles. There are so many possibilities.
Keep up the great work.
PS-- I prefer mahjong over more solitaire card games, I found the latter really boring.
