Nice old school relaxing HOS but a little short and I was never far away from the walkthrough. There is no skip on puzzles, and some of them weren't that easy, so you are flying without a safety net.
It seemed to be primarily a backgrounds artist that created all the scenes. So while those scenes themselves were good, there weren't really any foreground scenes, even in the HOS, which made them appear flat and two dimensional. This lack of layering, created uninspiring scenes. I found myself having to use the walkthrough a few times. It was easy to get lost and disorientated and pathways to other areas weren't clear. Saying that though, I thought the cut scenes, cinematics and storyline was well executed and a lot of thought was put into it. The puzzles and game play were interesting. The characters and dialogue helped to create some atmosphere.
So much to do in this nice long, old school HOG. Everywhere you turn you will find something fun and interesting and you can really immerse yourself in the carnival/circus atmosphere. Lots of HOS, but slow hint recharge and slow skip charge up. I didn't like all the back and forth activity and felt disorientated, most of the time. The gameplay was a bit all over the place. It didn't feel very linear, it could even be a little stressful because it won't hold your hand, which is good for those who don't like everything handed to them on a plate. Very quirky style and with a gentle creepiness, most of the time!
I've always liked the weird and mysterious, with a touch of psychopath thrown in, and this fits the bill perfectly. I wasn't sure about the gameplay at first. You play a straight forward HOS at the beginning of each chapter and then click around for the orange question marks, which tell you what objects you need for a certain task, and then you find those objects and complete those tasks. Every chapter works that way, so once you get into it and know what to expect, you can settle down and enjoy it. Very flat, almost colourless scenes, which are typical of the old school games, but the quirkiness and creativeness of them more than make up for it. I really liked the inventive posters, like the King Kong one, I liked it when the girl said, 'Please don't let it be people!' when she finds some unidentifiable meat. All in all, a good and long game, which leave a lot of questions unanswered, but we can always let our imaginations do the rest..
My fav bit was the Ghost Train scenes and all those jump scares. Lots of atmosphere. Quite old school, good game play, interesting HOS and scenes in general. It was a bit short, which was disappointing, but apart from that, an exciting and fun game to play.
A basic but kooky HOG, which has some interesting little tasks in each scene. There is a riddle to solve in each one. You click on the object you think answers the riddle. There are also gems to find, and you will have to move things out of the way, twiddle knobs on radios, open boxes, that kind of thing. There are only 5 hints available for each chapter. There is an opportunity to refill depleted hints, at the end of each level, by playing a basic match 3 game, which is always the same. Apart from the obvious leaning into boredom after a while of doing this, I really liked the game. The only thing was, all the riddles and gems and cute little puzzles to find them, ended after a few chapters, and you were left with the same basic HOS to play over and over again. Could have done with at least five new scenes with new riddles and gems. Considering only four people made this game though, it's really good. They couldn't or wouldn't do it these days and the game wouldn't be half as fun.
This game has lots of old school charm. You explore the ocean, and as you sail, you clear away blankets of cloud, to reveal exciting islands and ports. You trade at these ports and islands of interest and also pick up and complete quests. If you encounter another ship on your travels, you can decide to fight or run away. Sometimes, you won't have a choice. You fight by playing a basic match 3 game every time. It can get quite strategic. You build up your money as you fight ships, complete quests and do other tasks, and have the option to upgrade your ship, buy land and gain XP. After the initial excitement of exploration, I got bored fairly quickly. It gets quite repetitive. I know I haven't covered all the bases and explored all the areas, fought all the ships and done all the quests, but it does get monotonous after a while. I love that it doesn't railroad you down any linear path of play, so it's very liberating in that sense but I do like more linear game play. It's one of those comforting games, where you dip in and dip out, and play over several weeks or even months. There doesn't seem to be an ending but if you persevere, I can imagine you can get a lot of loot for your efforts and a fine fighting ship that is not easy to beat.
I liked the characters, the voice overs and the atmosphere. Good graphics too. It played a bit like a movie at times which I really liked. I could completely overlook that it didn't have any HOS because it is such a good game. It's obviously not a HOG though, so it has been unfairly categorised as such, and it appears people, including myself, expected different things from it, which is not the game's fault. The only real downside was that it was too short and that was a disappointment.
Adventure strategy game, which reminds me of the old board games I used to play as a kid, with those hexagonal combat maps. Visually, I liked it and the characters were interesting. Bought it for my husband and only watched the play, so this is based on his verbal review. The game play was repetitive but it was fun in it's simplicity. Good variety of characters to chose from for use in battles. Different types of opponents allow for some tactical variety. Being able to go to different islands with different environments was also interesting.
