I love this game for its uniqueness and the ease of finding the cells that you are working on. It beats the other pixel art game all to pieces! The pictures aren't your typical array of art subjects but I consider this less arty and more of a fun coloring book style. I was an instant fan of Artists of Fortune.
Many of the images are a bit goofy but they are really fun to color with the dazzling assortment of crayons. It is a much better way to display the colors as compared to the color scroll in other games. I like how the cells flip as you color them, a fun visual. Also when you are finished with a color, that crayon disappears from the screen. You always know exactly what is left without the troublesome scrolling.
The features and power-ups are all handy-dandy and everything works like a charm. There are a whopping 120 images within the game's 6 chapters. Each chapter is locked until the current one is completed, but once opened you can paint the images in any order you choose. Although, the entire series has presented many cute and sometimes unusual pics, I think the ones in today's game are the best.
I appreciate very much when a game comes along that is not the run of the mill, especially in these color by numbers games. Without fresh new ideas and the creative imaginations of the devs, things get stale pretty fast. It's been a long while since I've purchased a paint game, even the very popular ones have fallen into a rut and they have lost much of their appeal. Sometimes I think devs become too comfortable with what they know has been working for them and then they get lazy.
Anyway, I love art and color, color, color. This game provides that even though the art is a little quirky. The unique features make it lots of fun and turns computer art into a great way to relax and wake up the artist in me. I do okay with real painting but I like this more when I just don't feel like cleaning brushes and tidying up.
Such a lot to learn, it felt so complicated to me. I didn't have much time left in the demo for playing, completed only 4 levels. Challenge and strategy are definitely the main attractions here. Reaching the top of the tower is a goal I want to accomplish but for me it will be a slow climb!
Had to buy it, hope it was the right decision. Rarely do I find challenge this good in a Match 3 game. It really got my brain fired up and eager to engage in the trek to the top. It's taking a while to catch on and just when I think I've got it, I am greeted by another "dilemma". It's so much fun! One of my main frustrations is that last remaining tile, just can't see it. The game is just crazy busy and challenging, and interesting. No fear of boredom edging in. The boards and tiles are a good size but the colors are a little dark. Movement feels a bit sticky or delayed. I enjoy playing double boards.
So far I am earning only 2 stars in each level, hope to change that but I've won a couple of achievements. I would never have reached a smidgen of accomplishment in Timed Mode, which is my favorite. I tried Limited Moves, too, and ended up in Endless but it feels like I'm cheating. Strategy skills are certainly a must, in my opinion, and a good dose of perseverance goes a long way. I didn't get to any of the mini games yet, hopefully they are something other than the usual simple mahjong and solitaire.
With all the darts, arrows, rocks, fog, fire, Star Essences, treasure chests etc, I can't imagine this game ever becoming boring but it may wear you out. Great replay value. Each time I fail a level, I am returned to the Main Menu which I don't care for. Don't know if I am doing something wrong or if that's just how it's supposed to be. In any case, I love the game and highly recommend it.
I was delighted to find a new Modern Art but the feeling didn't last long. I don't know what the rest of the game has in store for us, but the first level was disappointing. And naturally we have to complete it before we have access to it. I really hate that feature. I can't buy something without seeing it first !
The game hasn't changed from the last one. The dev is still hung up on dark, unappealing colors and very pale washed out ones. Even if the pictures are lovely images, the poor colors ruin them. I like the features in Modern Art, especially the color wheel that changes the background. It makes it so much easier to see the many areas to be painted. The Zoom is also mighty helpful. Unfortunately, the Hint has become my new best friend.
The specks of color in most of the pics are so very teeny-tiny that they are invisible to my eye. It is so frustrating to have to cheat to finish a painting. I don't mind spending a little extra time on it but staring at it for several minutes without results is no fun. There must be another way to include challenge without this method! The images are usually a breeze to complete in spite of the abundance of areas to fill in, but then this roadblock brings me to a stand-still. Scanning your mouse over the picture colors in all the areas of the number you are working on and moving the pic around with your mouse is another great help.
I do own quite a few Modern Art games, in the beginning they were so different and the subject matter was very appealing. But the dark colors soon became a spoiler, as they are used on everything from flowers to birds, to landscapes. Art, in my opinion, should be bright and beautiful or dreamy pastels or at least realistic in the color schemes. Blacks, browns and murky greens just don't make sense to me.
Modern Art is still a quality paint game, it offers much more than others at BFG and there are never any tech issues. I do think it would be nice to have more than 64 images and the selection of subject matter could be expanded. The collections usually include something for everyone though, from the very simple to the very complex. All the images can be redone, so the replay value means the game will last forever.
If you haven't yet tried Modern Art, give the demo a spin and enjoy being an artist for a while. Painting has a way of soothing my soul, so relaxing. Not sure if I will buy this one. I did see some beautiful flowers with the synopsis. The red ones are in the first level but are way too dark. Maybe a good sale will inspire me to add to my collection.
This is the ugliest batch of puzzles! Lots of food, lots of staged settings, lots of people that are totally uninteresting. I'm not a fan of homey scenes in the first place. I am always attracted to the outdoor scenery. Wildlife, nature, birds, flowers, nautical, etc. They put my mind in a peaceful, beautiful place. If I want to see the inside of someone's home, I can just look around my own and snap some pics to slap into an album.
Why can't this dev come up with a decent game once in a while? Except for the first couple of games many moons ago, I have not seen one! Creating entertainment obviously is not something they take seriously, nor is any talent displayed in any of their games. Throw some game elements together, don't bother with useful features, an attractive title, pretty pictures or a quality photographer. Just toss a lot of nothing in a box and call it a day and another dollar. Someone will buy it, but it won't be me!
There are far better jigsaw puzzles at BFG and you can instantly see that the devs put much effort and thought into their work. They are brimming with beauty and fun, and great features. Puzzle fanatics won't find any trace of beautiful images, interesting subjects or pleasing colors here.
Why can't we have a mosaics game without a cartoonish animal family? So tired of them, they add no fun or interest to the game. Surely there is enough talent amongst these dev teams to come up with something better to appease the adult gamers.
I enjoyed the music today, though an odd mixture. It did stop for a few moments at intervals but that's nothing new. I like the trivia feature in these travel games but it isn't always accurate. I skipped through the dialogue because it is not important to the game. Everything is pretty basic as far as mosaics go, the Walkers never offer anything that grabs my attention.
The pictures are so plain and simple. I sometimes can't figure out what they are, even with the labels. Very "boxy" appearance, no detail. The tile styles, the background, the colors are not appealing. The appearance is very flat and boring to look at, except for a few instances the colors are basic and bland. The night background seems easier for me to work with. The levels are locked but that usually doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that each level is no better than the ones before it, so I see no reason to keep them locked up as though there's a super duper surprise waiting for us.
The two bonuses offer minimal help if you get stuck, but the mosaics are pretty easy going so I found no need to engage them. I kind of liked the 2 puzzles in the demo, a little break in the monotony but you won't find any challenge there, either.
If looking for something simple to kick back with to escape a frazzled day, Travel Mosaics may be just the ticket. Just enough to keep your mind out of the nap zone. You won't find challenge here. There are far better mosaic games at BFG if that's what you are seeking.
If you've not yet tried this very entertaining HOG, check out the CE reviews. It is one of the best hidden object games we have at BFG. The graphics are always excellent and super colorful. It is so full of HOs, puzzles, activities that the SE will not leave you feeling short-changed. There are extra levels with the CE but you won't be missing any of the fun!
The park is beautiful, busy with park workers, sightseeing, lots of visitors, events for kids/families, lots of photo ops, friendly rangers always keeping an eye on things and occasional wildlife sightings. It is fun and educational and has great replay value. It's a long game, too. This is one the entire family can enjoy and there's not a monster or princess in sight. For me that is a great relief! I also like the real people visitors, a nice change from all the animation. The music is nice, good features/options, no tech issues.
Each Park Ranger game is basically the same, very few changes have been added along the way but I love it just the same and never tire of it, even at Number 13. The park seems like such a happy place. If it were real, my bags would be packed and I'd be on my way in a flash. I love the outdoors and living there, being a ranger is right up my alley, a permanent vacation! During these times of chaos what a lovely escape, even if it's just a game.
As usual this an excellent Jewel Match Solitaire. The CE offers so much, it is hard to pass it up. This one has a different look and the map isn't as busy, the bonus levels covered with sheets look a little strange. The variety of special levels and solitaire variants should satisfy any solitaire lover.
Earn your first of 24 trophies just by using the custom cursor. Each special level will open after earning a specific number of stars. Lots of extra levels, so many stars. What fun! 4 Game Modes make it enjoyable for anyone regardless of skill. There are Normal, Timed, Relaxed and Hard. My choice is most often Normal but I try my hand at the others just to keep it from becoming boring. It happens easily with me because I play for such long periods. You can change the modes any time you choose while playing.
The card styles aren't very pretty this time and the graphics not as bright and colorful as in past games, but beautiful nonetheless. The scenery for the first castle had a few unexpected things in it like a weather balloon, kite, party balloon, birds flitting about, beautiful floating pastel petals. More petals float up the screen when a level is completed. Very soothing effect. The castle was tucked away in the hilly countryside, surrounded by flowering trees and thick shrubbery, with a brooding cloudy sky. It looked so peaceful, I just wanted to be there, I'm really anxious to see the other castles and their beautiful surroundings. The visuals and building are what keeps me coming back for more Jewel Match games.
I think the shop is a little pricier this time but there's always a good, useful selection of power-ups so I don't mind that much. There are many solitaire variants in this game that are new to me. I always love learning something new and I find them not so easy to catch onto, so I like the challenge and feeling of accomplishment when I succeed. I also enjoy going for the perfect score in the Bonus Levels. All these extras really make this an extremely long game, well worth the CE price.
I wanted to check out the wallpapers but they were locked as are the other goodies, until you reach the required number of stars. The coins add up fairly quickly in the Jewel Match solitaires so I don't have to wait forever to make a purchase and some of them have more than one level to them. That reduces the frustration when I eventually need some help.
I really enjoy the challenge of the obstacle cards, have to keep my strategy skills honed. I don't care for the ones covered with "plastic?", sometimes just too many of those. Also as the game progresses, there are too many of the same cards face up on the board. I find it frustrating and a no-win situation when, for example, you have 4 Kings showing and keep drawing more of the same. It always ends in replays and I just have to quit. Sometimes I replay a dozen hands or so. I try to buy extra cards as soon as possible, which helps.
I'll be buying today's new Jewel Match Solitaire X when a good sale comes up. I think I own them all when really unneccessary but I just love building the castles and find it hard to quit. The games always run smoothly. The abundance of extras make the Collectors Edition worth every penny.
I'm not too keen on this game. Seven Sails usually brings us good stuff but I felt this one could have been better. We have lots of travel HOGs and this is basically the same as the others. I played the entire demo and didn't come away feeling I would miss anything if I didn't buy it.
The graphics were not the greatest so that made it a bit tough to find things. The colors were kind of "muddy" and the sharpness was missing. Items were small, hard to distinguish but not always due to being well blended. I just couldn't tell what they were. There are Easy, Medium and Hard Game Modes. I played Easy in the demo and really don't think I would have made much progress otherwise.
There are 3 different object lists: Standard, Missing Vowels and Scrambled Letters. Also hidden in each scene are 1 Passport Stamp and 1 morphing Letter or Postcard. They were quite difficult to spot, the morph being the hardest. I wasn't sure what the stamp would look like so I struggled with that in the beginning but it is very faint and easy to overlook. A green check mark appears in a suitcase at top of screen indicating that they have been found, hover your mouse over it to open. If you miss any, the scenes can be replayed and they can be picked up, only after the entire game is completed.
Thankfully, there is a Zoom Feature available by clicking the magnifier. It is kind of sticky, it will take you top and bottom, left and right. Doesn't zoom enough, IMO, but helps quite a bit, with the objects being so small and indistinct. You also have a Hint and Mega Hint to help out, which I had to use several times. Finding objects quickly, in succession, earns more $$. The coins are used in the Souvenir Shop, items are a little pricey.
There's a Photo Album for the letters and postcards, a Passport for the passport stamps. I don't know what types of mini games there are, other than the one Find-The-Difference I played in the demo. It contained 20 differences and wasn't too challenging, but it is one of my favorites. After completing several HO scenes, a mini game is available. Choose your starting point on the Map by clicking on the picture of the scene. The scenes are full of all sorts of things including real people tourists.
I don't think I would have much fun with Travel Along because the HOs were too difficult to locate, my eyesight not being the best. Having to rely on the hints would take away too much of the enjoyment and satisfaction. I'm always up for a good challenge, but can't be proud of myself if I have to cheat.
This is a good HOG with plenty of locations, a variety of HO styles, lots of items on the lists, good challenge, mini games. Not the best but it will certainly keep you busy for a good long while and the 3 game modes keep it interesting. Even the Easy Mode was not "a piece of cake", for me, but that was due partly to the graphics. Sadly, I have to pass on this one because it would be more frustrating than fun.
It is more like Mahjong but with a little twist. The objective is to connect 2 tiles in direct line with one another or at an angle. Earn more points for longer connections. the corners are great for this. I've played this kind of game before. It requires some strategy but quickly becomes boring. You can't go around multiple corners. It's a fairly easy game but the corners are tricky, it's a bit frustrating til you catch on.
Some challenge is introduced with the addition of brick walls in some of the levels. They cannot be removed, so working around them makes the connections a little more difficult. An irritating little mouse pops up in each level, one per level. Clicking on it earns you a bonus but you have to be awfully quick. The goal is to achieve 3 stars but I was surprisingly a failure. Regardless of speed or no mistakes I earned 3 stars only twice within 28 levels. So I don't know what it takes to succeed!
The game starts with Relaxed Mode only. The Timed Mode isn't available until after 54 minutes of play. I find that rather odd. The levels are locked. There are 100 levels. I don't know if they become more challenging as the game progresses. I completed 28 in the demo quite easily. I do know that there will be more brick walls and more tiles as you continue. There is a Hint and Reshuffle Button, a good Tutorial, no special options or fancy features. Not much is needed, really, for this type of Match 2 game, in my opinion.
The tiles have images of items you would find in a country store. They are small, some are hard to discern differences, but they are cute and most are colorful. However, I think too little for some players to see without difficulty. The game is fun for a while, but there's not enough to keep it from becoming tedious. Not interesting and I found myself tired of it within the first 15 minutes even though I finished the demo. Was hoping for it to "liven up", but it didn't.
Not as many people, not as much food this time but again the pictures are not interesting. The colors are dark, nothing bright and beautiful. I don't expect EVERYTHING to be spectacular but this is another 8Floor collection that doesn't inspire me to spend time or money on one of my favorite pastimes. I've taken far better photos myself.
The scenery is boring, birds and animals are scarce, as are flowers. Even the sealife was pretty colorless, very basic. The synopsis describes puzzles I certainly didn't find in this collection. Where are the unique, high-quality images and incredible anything? And by the way, when will 8Floor deliver what they advertise? If you claim 1001 puzzles, I won't be thrilled with 500. It's a matter of honesty that just rubs me the wrong way every time I read the title. At least change the title!
Even so, 500 is plenty to offer a broader and more interesting selection than this, which is the norm from 8Floor. These compare to puzzles I find in the $ store and I pass those up even at a dollar. Lots of complaining, I know! After all it's just a game. But I'm just so frustrated that nothing ever improves. Reviewers' requests and suggestions are forever ignored. It's not that there is a lack of fantastic jigsaw puzzles at BFG. It's about this dev being more ambitious and producing what they advertise if they want my $$. I want lots of beauty and relaxation with the puzzles I assemble.
If not familiar with this series, check out the demo. The puzzles may be just what you love. They can be assembled in a variety of sizes, there are 5 "books" of themed images, you don't have to work them in sequence, there are just a few features/options but they always seem to work smoothly. I loved the first few releases in this series, they were awesome and not just 500 puzzles. I can't recall when that changed. Look them up and see the difference! I still enjoy them.
