I loved it. Phantom of opera was one of my all time favourites this I loved as well but I couldn't compare them as they are such different games (still think opera has the edge). I love the graphics, and I don't say that a lot. I usually turn of the music quickly but this I find relaxing.
It truly has the look and feel of a fairy tale book, not too cutsey with some mild scare factor. I love the comments when you click on things. It has voiceovers. It has 3 settings, I played on the hardest and there are sparkles for hidden object and puzzle area. (not so good)
It does have a map, but it wasn't interactive (transporter), but has markers in the areas that things are still to be done in.
I just love the look, feel, story and it's an A and you know me I don't give "A" out often. I would give it a A++, if it had an interactive map, no sparkles and some morphs.
I play on hardest, take my time, and by no means am I a fast player!! no skipping, read everything and rare look at walkthrough, so a lot of time is backtracking.
main game - 5hrs as in SE version SE players will be satisfied with ending
I recommend this game!

Overall good game but some tiny objects bring the game's rating down
For those of you thinking this is a hound of the baskervilles type game it's not. It's even different to a lot of the other style Sherlock Holmes games. And to those thinking it's an old style hidden object game - with traditional hidden object scenes it's not that either. I like that there is a timed/untimed option, that there is 3 different difficulties of play. There is an option that you can manually put in for your resolution. I changed mine to a lower resolution and it did make the black bars at the side smaller which was good.
I don't even look at this like an old pure adventure game. But put this in a more interactive mystery book type game. As you do have to read and follow the story.
I lOVE that the hidden object scenes are not junk pile but part of the story. I will forgive a game most anything if there are no junk pile scenes. And it's a find shape of items not word list, but when you click on shape it will tell you what it is. Some are very hard to find, but with patience most I did find. Playing on a laptop pulled close did help!
I don't think the puzzles are particular hard but some like the painting are just tedious. Some are more of the traditional adventure game variety, you have to think for some of them! I also like that they are unlocked when you play them, so you can go into the menu and replay them.
For those that like stories, or something different with some nice puzzles then this is a check out game. I really enjoyed it.
tech wise no problem from me I have nvidia card, windows 7 64 bit.
pros - Interactive hidden object scenes (got to uncover things to get to some items) - unlocked puzzles - no junk pile H O scenes -great story, got to think -more difficult puzzles
cons - - Some of those objects are really tiny, I did get most with adjusting lighting and patience, and hints -needed more skip options for puzzles -deduct board, got a bit tedious
This certainly isn't the best there is: this is an easier/laid back game, but it was a pleasant game. There were plenty of pick-ups, and while ERS never gives you hard puzzles they were enjoyable. Each area was contained somewhat so the backtracking was kept to a minimum.
The hint button was helpful, so you didn't need a walkthrough. I played on expert (there are 2 levels) which still gave me hint and skip options, although they still give you mega sparkles for hidden object scenes.
I liked the fairytale storyline for a change ( although don't examine the plot logically too much, as especially at the end, when you think about it, it doesn't make sense.) But at least for a SE the ending felt complete and that I wasn't missing out on anything.
An easier Sunday afternoon, relaxing game .C+game. (That's quite a good mark for me!)
Do you like sims type games? Although I like 'the sims' it does frustrate me that I have to feed them, see they are rested etc when I just want to get on with the game. Here in this game you don't have that problem (horrah!) They seem to be automatons - not needing breaks etc. This has the same look/graphics of the original sims.
Somehow I really got into this game- just got addicted to it. But like any sim type game, you can't pick it up and play for just 30 mins at a time.
But I would say, that those that like pure sims games may be a bit frustrated at the lack of control (see above) of making them eat etc. It's not that kind of a game! It's all about making your targets, seeing customers are happy, making profits, winning cooking competition etc.
I do think you need a walkthrough purely to give you tips on how to play this game and hints. I was lost at the beginning but hours into it, I got it. There is in built tips which does help but not fully.
If you have time to invest, then you may like this. Tips - click on everything - customers, menu etc. Even if you manage to do all the tips - it's not 100% you will still get customers not happy - I guess that's life!
I prefered restaurant 2 (not here in BF yet) it has more choice in furnishing, type of restaurants, food and even has a cake shop. It also gives you this original game free. I played this game first but I'd recommend you getting the 2nd game.
This is a KHEOPS game. The same people that made return to mysterious island. If you like this game or played RTMI it's the same kind of play, same interface. Once you get used to the games interface you can slip right into the other game.
You play as a prehistoric caveman and his life. I did need a walkthrough with this game, as the game play area seems so vast (it's not really). Also it's useful to help you at the beginning to know how to play - instructions.
I would rate this at the harder end of adventure games that are out there, this is not an easy game!
The puzzles were a bit hard but I think the challenge was more in figuring out what the puzzles are and how to do it. This game takes patience and a lot of time. Which to me is great! If you are a HOPA/IHOG player, don't expect large file games to be like a HOPA without the hidden objects. It's not. It does take a while to get the hang of how any large file game plays. But if you want a long, go on an adventure with lots of puzzles type game, then you will be rewarded for your patience and persistance. I love how they incorporate some history and the inbuilt encycopedia into the game, I learned stuff playing this!
It's certainly worth the money and plays on my windows 7 nivida card computer.
This game does have a couple of glitches. But nothing I couldn't play past. I saved it often and in different places. I also took tips in the game forum before I played it which helped it out. I played in windows 7 with nvidia card.
Overall I really enjoyed it, it had a lot of different areas/scenery to explore. I did find the first hour, in the palace the slowest and the most boring. But a lot of that was figuring out the game. It does pick up the pace when you get into it. When it went into the jungle and at the end was the best.
In the sense of an adventure game, this is the definition of it. Your character is on a true adventure traveling to different places trying to uncover her past.
I enjoyed it more than Syberia, this had less talking, more action and things to do. The bugs do let it down, but it's not unplayable and I only had 2 glitches in my game which required 10 mins of backtracking (because I save my game often).
I recommend this game!

Great fun, would recommend playing the first game in the series first
I loved the first game, and I even loved this one better (#although had glitch problem!). This game is a fresh change on an adventure game. If you go everywhere, talk to everyone and go back and forth numerous times, I don't think you need a walkthrough *.
It's mini games are harder, than the first one, and overall more challenging, than the first ( but also more fun and enjoyable.) But if you have played the first game, this comes like a natural progression. Some of them, I think could have been programmed better - the 'making baby food' game, clicking on the squares was frustrating as clicking on the next one, cancelled the last square out. The scrabble game, picking up and placing tiles was fiddly.
I loved seeing my cookies cut out, after finishing it (nice touch).
I thought in the first game, the bottles and butterflies were too easy, and I got more bottles than I needed. Well, did they ratch up the hardness in this game!
But I would prefer it that way, than making it too easy. They could have given a hint button in the normal play, even limited would help you out with the last ballon/bottle.
*It's the only part were I think you may need the walkthrough, there was always just one bottle I couldn't get, even though I went through every screen numerous times
#There was a glitch were I was picking up items in baby store downstairs, it wouldn't recognise I had finished, so had to replay all the game to pick up the laptop last. Very frustraing as it was near the end.
I recommend this game!

Dracula Origin
Play as the vampire slayer Professor Van Helsing, hot on the trail of the diabolical Count in this thrilling Large File Adventure!
A lot of different and unique puzzles, really quite long, and you aren't allowed to leave an area if you need to pick up an item. For clues in a scene just hit the space bar to see 'hot spots'.
I wish there was an option to turn off the music without turning off the voices. It isn't a 360 spinner game (good) but you do have to make sure you hit every' footprints'- easy to miss some scenes (but the space bar helps you out with this)
It has a completely different style of gameplay than HOPAs. It's more difficult and challenging than them. So if you are looking for that then this isn't for you.
I would recommend you search online for a walkthrough, and look at the very beginning for instructions on how to play it - how to use journal etc, move around etc.
I wouldn't recommend this for kids or for the very faint of heart - I will place a spoiler alert at the very end of the review so you don't need to read it if you don't want to.
I played this on windows 7, with no tech problems. And I have had quite a few tech problems with other large file games here.
Really recommend this game.
spoiler alert (sorry can't white things out here)-
There is a scene later in the game with a trapped monk in a cage and other monks. you don't see anything but are aware of what is happening, it was a bit gruesome. There was some blood on the ground - but it wasn't very realistic in other part as well.
I loved this game as it is so different to the others out there and to be honest was jaded with all the same formulaic type IHOGs. I viewed this game as more of an long interactive type novel. But a warning for some. It is dark. I got so caught up in the story it left me, after I had finished, a bit shaken. But in hindsight not many stories do that to me and to have the ending it did, actually made me rate it more highly. If you are not into the story and won't read it, then this game isn't for you as the actual H O scenes and other stuff probably would bore you as it is a bit older.
But I would urge those that like darker stories to give it a try. But it needs more than 30 mins of demo time, as it did take me a while to get hooked.
This game surprised me on two levels - I don't like dark stories particularly and plots/stories about 80% of the time I don't bother with and usually skip them.
I eagerly awaited a sequel and while I wouldn't say the sequel was 'bright and cheery' it did address concerns that this original game was too dark. But I felt by doing that it had lost some of the specialness/uniqueness that this had.
I think this is a love/hate game. But give it a try and you may be like me, surprised you like it.
For the story I give it an A For the Hidden object scenes I give it a B- For the overall 'feel' game experience, I'd give it a very good solid B+++
Another good game from Elephant, I loved raincliff as well and lost.
What I love about this game:
- An interactive map, so rare in games so thank you! - A help system in the map, that shows you currently areas that you can do things in - Completely different areas, and scenery, so it's contained each chapter - Obvious chapters, so I can take a break and not have a headache remembering things in areas as each chapter is different - No hint penalty for HOG scenes - Not many hog scenes - Lots of puzzles (although some button/slide were glitchy to me) - The cutscenes were amazing, just like Raincliff - The feel of it was so different and unique - This game was long to me - wonderful!
Kudos on an excellent, different game that wasn't a CE first.
If it had different levels of challenge with the option of no sparkles at all (they weren't the migraine shower kind) I would give it an A.
