I did not enjoy this game.
From the first 5 mins I didn't like it. Stupidly I bought it without trying it, as it had been a CE so thought it would be OK.
The graphics were not to my taste and the style of graphics seem to change from gameplay to some cutscenes. Then the cutscenes were trying to be a comic strip, with split scenes but just didn't gel with the rest of the game and wasn't well done. The story/plot was all over the place.
The first hour was so boring, it did get a bit better as it went along, but by then I had given up. I am used to backtracking but there was no logic to it and was scattered all over the place.
There were some nice puzzles, nothing unique and while not hard, was a bit harder than a lot of IHOGs. Pipe puzzles I usually can do in less than a minute but this one took a bit longer which was good. But found the star gazing one (the 2nd one) just tedious like a couple of others.
There were some nice areas, the tree house with different rooms in it was about the only enjoyable part of the game for me, Maybe because there wasn't all that backtracking.
If you need to spend your punchcard on something and they are about to expire, then do look at this. But if you are on a budget and you don't buy every SE that is released, then pass this one over as there are plenty of better HOPAs (hidden object puzzle adventure) games.
This is on the lower than average of SE games. While not a terrible or bad game (being objective) it blends into all the other IHOG games, and will not stand out as one of the better ones.
A D+ game for me. With C being an average game.
I don't recommend this game.

OVERVIEW - It's time to start comparing the gold standard of adventure games - dire grove - to this game rather than the other way around. If this game came out before dire grove I think most would.
It's an excellent mostly adventure game with some hidden object scenes, playing different rooms and some outside of an opera house.
the good -
-well thought out 'pick up and what do I do with it' items
intelligent, logical pick up items ie - *spoiler * skull item went on mannequin hand acting out 'to be or not to be'.
-great graphics, excellent atmosphere
-excellent, well thought out and executed, not too difficult mini puzzles. But skip button available if needed.
-contained areas, which I easily did remember the order of rooms
-the guide wasn't a walkthrough but gave you good hints
-length of game - really good, it took me 5hrs (I would have thought I played it longer due to different areas and puzzles but that was the official time)
-not time controlled puzzles but let you know how long it took you so you can beat your own time
the not so good
-I did think it was the 'official' game so thought the music would be the same as musical.
-I thought it would be the same story as the musical
-The guide could have given you an even more detailed option - photo, walkthrough for puzzles.
-the bonus game only took me about 30mins for CE could have had better extras and longer bonus game
-the bonus game area, was very condensed, multi play area and really easy after the normal game
I recommend this game!

Overall I loved this game, really enjoyable lovely break from normal HOPAs. But I can't recommend the CE to others. I have never played as short a bonus extra gameplay as this. So I would recommend getting the SE version. An A game but let down in easier gameplay, shocking short bonus gameplay, no integrated SG which makes it an overall B game.
comparing between the original-
Original drawn was darker, and much longer and had amazing interactive paintings of different styles. This is more joyous, fun but WAY shorter and doesn't have any hanging paintings interactions. The 1st had the pop up interactive puzzles this had them all in a book - I loved the book and the finding items but missed the photos interactive and missed the hardness of the first.
With the feel and fairytale graphics this is trying to reinvent itself as it is a bit different to the previous 2 games. But is MUCH easier, making this ideal for gamers that haven't played the 1st drawn yet, and as this is a prequel makes sense doing this.
things I love
- pop up book interactions and the hidden objects
- achievements - they are fun and can replay them easily in sections
- hidden inventory bar - so was immersed in game (can lock it)
- amazing graphics (but lack of color at beginning)
- some harder puzzles
- fun lighter gameplay
things not so good
- Bonus play was so short (I did like the drawings in the bonus though)
- Overall game was way shorter than original drawn
- Way easier than original
- No SG, the hints worked well most of the time but gave me spoilers - would have prefered 'phantom of opera' progressive hints - choose what hint you want or even a "nothing to do in this scene, come back later" or circle to what to do.
- one puzzle (first bonus one) was dreadful in telling the objective and hints
bonus gameplay the shortest ever in a game - (after replaying as I had a glitch at beginning) was about 20 mins, the shortest chapter in the game.
overall gameplay time was about 4hrs including bonus (I did spend another 10 mins going back to get the last 3 hidden items) While this may sound fine, I am not a quick player the original took me over 7hrs. I play on hardest and for achievements.
I don't recommend this game.
