Always a fan of the Dark Parables series and The Final Cinderalla does not disappoint in all the usual ways.
Once again we assume the role of Detective and our new mission is to uncover the plot of the wicked Godmother before she brings havoc into our world. Her objective is to find the one and only Cinderalla and use her pure soul to awaken her dead lover. She apparently goes through a number of young girls, turning them into glass. It is now up to us to save Cinderalla and bring about a happy for everafter ending to this adventure.
As always these developers are to be complimented on their stunning graphics and truely beautiful artwork. Voive overs are minimal and only during the cut scenes. There are three play modes and you also have a choice to turn off sparkles. Game features a diary, task list and a map that shows areas of interest.
I am not a huge fan of FROGs therefore if really comes down to personal preferences. That really is why I gave this game a 4 star rather than allocating 5 stars. I find Fragmented Hidden Object Scenes tedious to play and enjoy more the complex interactive HO scenes that some games offer.
Game play is relatively easy and straightforward, mini-games are very well conceptualized but unfortunately very easy to play. You have also parables to collect that unlock various fables in your diary. The Final Cinderalla is beautiful to look at, mesmerizing scenes and an enchanting storyline that does thwart my interest to pursue this adventure. However, I really do have to be honest and say that it did not throw me off my chair or leave me breathless. I would have prefered a bit more challenge in the gameplay. Nevertheless, the series has always proven to be a favorite amongst many gamers and it will definitely go into my collection of CE games. A good solid 4 star HOPA that many will enjoy.
Over and over the same nightmare is following you: your sister Anna is trapped in a strange existence, begging you to help her escape. But what if these are not just random nightmares?
As far as a SE Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure games go, this one proves to be one of the better ones that we have seen lately. Our story begins with disturbing nightmares about your twin sister who you soon discover is missing. You find yourself back at your abondoned childhood home where you uncover clues that lead you to uncovering a dark secret about your childhood and your family. Are you trapped in some horrible alternative reality or are you just in an asylum? While you search for answers, you find yourself a prey for a very sinister villain.
Despite mediocre graphics that look slightly dated, no voice-overs and no map, this game still managed to keep my interest going. Im sure graphics could have been better, sharper, but sound effects and the music made for a very chilling atmosphere. With three levels of difficulty settings, you find yourself in a dark world with a varity of interactive HO scenes, challenging puzzles and an interesting storyline that made me buy this HOPA after 30 minutes of gameplay.
Hardcore players will enjoy the level of challenge that this game offers. I especially loved solving some of the HO scenes which were not as easy as they looked: finding silohettes and then using them on other items. Mini-games were intricate and interesting, some required patience and some elbow grease.
Despite the graphics and the simplicity of the style of game, it offers a good adventure that I look forward to playing later tonight, with lights off and headphones on.
I remember these developers and not long ago, they use to bring us some very good games. That is why I am confused and a bit stunned at the lack of quality that exists in this third installment that follows the tale of Princess Isabella.
Our story begins where we left off, Bella now must save her Mother from the Witch as well as save her Kingdom. During her quest, she discovers that her fairygod mothers also need saving and to help her are her old friends, the Dragon and the Owl and the Crow. Each giving her wand the power to break, lift or reach objects.
The graphics were badly executed along with the artwork. Many of the scenes were too blurry and I really disliked the animation which looked so dated compared to what we have been seeing. The music has merit as do the Voice overs and that really is the most positive thing I can say about the game.
A HOPA game with playmode options that you can customize but regardless of what you choose, there are still sparkles everywhere. That was very annoying along with the helpful hints by our little fairy friend that gave us too much hand holding throughout the game. You have a journal but no map which also gave way to too much back-tracking and no clue as where to go. You have your magic wand and also you need to collect pieces of portraits that are hidden but the purple question marks were a dead-give-a-way.
Mini-games were childishly simple at times and some had very poor directions that I just merely clicked away and they were solved. I expect that the game will get a bit more interesting as there are quite a few chapters to get through, however with that being said, I definitely will wait for the SE edition. When compared to Thursday's CE Game, Rites of Passage, I am perplexed as to why this game should rank as a Collector's Edition what with the poor graphics, no map, sparkles everywhere and a story that really failed to excite me from the get go.
Our story picks up from where we left off in the town Willow Ridge twhere people have lived under the threat of the everlasting night of the Dark Forest. Their only source of protection is the Great Lighthouse that keeps the menacing trees at bay. Your husband Alan has gone gone off to search for answers and it has something to do with the dreams he has been having of a ghostly woman becoming him. Suddenly the lighthouse erupts into fire and it is now up to you to uncover the history of your town and the Forest Rite.
Once again the developers have really done an execellant job with graphics, visuals and artwork. The voice overs are well done as is the haunting music in the backgroug adding tension to the game. Along with three options of gameplay, you can also choose to customize your settings which I actually prefer. Equiped with a journal, you also have a list of objectives along with a map that will also allow you to travel and indicate tasks if selected. There is an amulate that needs to be reassembled that will hold off the trees.
A exceptional HOPA, this game offers challenge, entertainment and all of my other favorite extras like achievements, collecting acorns and morphing objects. Looking at the list of achievements, there seems to be many that involve gameplay which will definitely make tis game more interesting and challenging.
Packed with adventure, the Hidden object scenes are interactive and vary from the ones we are use to.Mini-games are also very well conceptualized and fun to play. Main menu also offer bonus games and other goodies that tell me that the developers went all out on this sequel.
Kudos to the developers for this definite 5 star game that will most probably make the list of my top 10 games for 2013.
Pirates, ghosts and a mystery to solve is a story that is tempting but unfortunately this game does not deliver in so many ways that as a Collector's Edition, I am left with two choices, to either pass or take advatange of the half price off sale today. I am still undecided.
Our story begins with love between a Sea Captain and his wife. As years pass on, our idyllic love story ends in tragedy and we are asked by the spirit of our bride to find out the truth.
What put me off at first were the graphics and the lack of any animation. The game looked old and worn out, dreary comes to mind. The voice-overs are few and the music simply lulls you over time. Game mechanics include a journal, a map that will allow you to travel and a chest whereby you need to collect coins. All wonderful ideas but unfortunately poorly executed.
Game tends to lag at times, making for frustration. It seems to take forever when you either pick up an inventory item and use it on something. You also can combine items as well. The chest is an iteresting concept and makes way for collecting coins, that is if you can find them. The challenge is trying to locate the coins and thankfully your map will indicate where coins are hidden and the chest does give you a clue when it opens up slightly at a scene. Once you do have these clues, its just a matter of really looking carefully in every nook and cranny. I really didnt mind this but you need to collect enough to open up a chest and move on to a next scene.
Hidden object scenes are junk-piled and interactive at times. They are few and the graphics make it difficulty to pick out some items. The mini-games vary and some were interesting, however slow movement of the cursor and game mechanics just them lose their appeal. The game just simple lags too much and even with the coins and the maps, my interest in the story simple waned as I moved along.
What a disapointment, a game with so much potential but just does not live up to standards of a CE. I expect many will either take advantage of the sale today or merely wait for the SE version to be release. Too bad, I do so love Pirate stories.
Upon the disappearance of her Grandfather, Vanessa, receives a cryptic message that leads her into battle with good and evil. Now a champion for the secret order of the Light, Vanessa must stop the impending disaster by tracking down the stolen runes. With only a handful of messages from Abraham Van Helsinga (20 to be exact), she must find the stolen runes that seal the gates to the underworld before an ancient evil is set loose upon our world.
Stunning graphics, great artwork with 3D animations, voice-overs, two modes of gameplay, one journal and an interactive map that will allow you to travel is all that this game offers. Regardless of this, Portal of Evil proves to be entertaining HOPA with a storyline that has you captivated from the beginning.
Heavy on adventure gameplay, I ran across only one Hidden Object scene within the first 30 minutes of the game. Mini-games are not very challenging but very well designed and integrated into the storyline.
I would have given this a 5 stars but for the lack of extras like morphing objects, collectables and achievements prevents me to do so. Overall, an entertaining game that will appeal to those who enjoy adventures and battle between good and evil. Is it worth a CE price tag depends on your personal taste with this paticular storyline. For me, it is a definite buy.
Perfect game for HOG fans out there. This time Fishdom becomes Aquascapes where you have tons of HO scenes to play and a choice of timed or relax fameplay. There are coins to earn, fish to buy, decorations and lots of achievments. A great way to pass the time and enjoy all the hidden object scenes you can play. Dont forget to feed your little fishies, brush away the dirt and wake them up when they sleep. Great fun for all and for those who prefer Match 3 games, there is always the Fishdom series to go back to.
Who doesn't love Richard Castle? I am absolutely a fan but not enough to buy this game. Graphics are substandard, no voice-over and your basic IHOG with alot of point and click.
The only redeeming part of the game is the storyline which begins with a gruesome murder. Richard and CO. are in pursuit of a sadistic killer with a taste for ritualistic murder as he leaves behind his victims staged to look like characters from literary classics.
A classic who-dun-it with Castle and Kate roaming around crime scenes, picking up evidence for the Evidence Board, playign HO scenes that are junk-piled and mildly interactive and solving the simple mini-games just to make things a bit more interesting. The operative word here is SIMPLE and I suppose those who are new to HOGs may enjoy this. HOG Fans and astle Fans may find this game somewhat entertainin, I however did not. I guess I will stick to the Television this time.
Once upon a time I enjoyed the Shiver series. The first two games were dark, spooky and came with challenges. It seems that the developers have taken a step back here and not really progressed much in way of technique. What I see here is a rather mundan, task oriented game with no extras that I expect from a CE game, which does beg the question, is it worth the extra cost or time and effort? In my opinion, no.
Our story begins with our hero riding along the countryside where he he has accepted the position as the new local doctor at a town. With a mysterious past and clues that we see in the opening scene, we are pretty sure that he comes from a liniage of werewolves. That is a no brainer! Seddenly, we have a wolf attack, a gunshot, an accident and our doctor finds himself taken hostage by a local man whose daughter is gravely injured. So our first set of tasks begin as we wonder off to collect various inventory items, soves some puzzles and play the odd Hidden object scene.
Game mechanics include three game modes to choose from. Graphics were far too dark and blurred at times. You have voice overs and ambient sounds that do, a journal and a lantern that you use for dark areas. There is no map and you will need to back-track several times which is an annoyance. Based on the demo, the game is heavy on adventure, alot of tasks and very few HO scenes. Mini games are also few and very simple. One paticular difference that I did find interesting that some items we collect warrent a closer look and we find that we need to either combine them with another item or use a tool on them. HO scenes were interactive and not so very challenging.
Gameplay so far did not thrill at all and I doubt that it will get more interesting. The game is a bit dated and offers no great challenges nor does it offer any extras which developers should be aware when producing a CE game. I will pass and wait for the SE version.
It has been a while since we came across Zombies and our story is filled with these blood thirsty creatures. An island has been infected with a mysterious virus that turns humans into Zombies. You and your team are sent to investigate but soon you find yourself alone and your first mission is to help and save each member of your team as well as uncover the mystery behind this epidemic.
At first glance the graphics looked old, at times worn out with 2D graphics annimation scenes. No voice-overs makes this game out dated and an irritating music over-powered by ambient sounds does cause annoyance after a while. Game features no choice of game modes which means that the game will give you sparkles and indicators as well as skips for puzzles. There is a journal along with a map that does help you navigate between scenes and will indicate if action is required. A helpful tool for those who get lost. You also have a relic that I soon discovered meant finding 10 runes which will give you a coin that opens certain passages. Each rune comes with a revelation of the story that involves an ancient civilization.
Hidden Object scenes are crowded with some interaction. Graphics are suprisingly sharper but still some objects were ridiculously obscured and I had to resort to pressing the hint button. The bonus object glows so no great challenge there.
Adventure gameplay made the game more interesting as did some of the mini-games. Although instruction were a bit vague, some puzzles were midly interesting and some I just could not be bothered and skipped. I found myself rapidly moving from one scene to another, at times exchanging written dialogues with my team members and having my hand held way too much to give me a sense of accomplishment. Within the demo time, I had already collected 4 of the 10 runes which does indicate for a rather short game. For hard core gamers, there is no challenge to be had here, too many sparkles and way to much hand holding. Nevertheless, the story may appeal to fans of the Zombie genre. I could recommend this for beginners who enjoy Adventure with interactive HO scenes, but to be honest, there a better SE games out their worth the price. I myself will pass and wait when it returns as a DD.
