When this game first came out back in 2008, I remember thinking that the graphics were outstanding, stellar and sooo life like. Fast forward to 2013 and I did not have the same impression of the graphics. I found them to be blurry, small and some of the hidden objects totally strained my eyes. However, this is a good story and game. If you can get by the dark hidden object scenes with the hard to see objects which aren't all of them and collect the 5 beetles to get more hints, this game is very pleasurable. Its a perfect, lets relax before bed game. There are mini games most of which are easy enough to do although a few are a bit challenging but in case you don't want to do them, all you have to do is press the hint button repeatedly and it does it all for you and solves it and lets you go on to finish the adventure.
I am a person who usually doesn't read the journals but in this one, the journal is a must read! You collect the pages as you do the hidden object scenes and the map will tell you in which levels the pages are in. The writer is so funny! His adventures are great like the crocs eat his shoes, he's overcome by evil monkeys and he's constipated and eating beetles like they are bits of popcorn just to name a few misadventures he gets himself into.
To really enjoy this game, you must remember when it came out which was 2008 and really remember what games were like back then. This game was the first of its kind if I remember correctly and even though time has gone on since then and graphics have advanced far beyond what this game had, this is a still a go to game that is very fun and has a great environment with well hidden objects and challenging mini games. I definitely recommend this one.
I give this 4 stars just for the pure fun and originality of the hidden object scenes. I seem to remember playing their first one about the fog and encountering the same style ones. They are the ones where each item you find, helps uncover another item but they are all interactive. Usually playing these types of games I start groaning when there are too many hidden object scenes but in this one, I wish there had been more! They were just so fun and I couldn't wait to play the next one. Even repeats of ones I had already done were fun. Good Job!
The story line was somewhat different in terms of the wax. I actually beta'ed this way back in the day and really liked it. I will say, this game is kind of old in terms of other games BUT it is so fun that it plays like a new game. It just shows, when a game is good, a game is good, no matter the year, no matter how much graphics have evolved since then. Everything is very blue shades in this game so thats the only let down on the graphics. Sometimes its hard to see things but the hint button really helps you out even in advanced mode. Puzzles were doable, most anyways. I always skip a few.
Mostly though, this game was LONG! I didn't realize how many locations there were to explore but this game kept me interested the entire time. Going back to plot line for a moment, it got kind of corny here and there but overall I really enjoyed it. I wish I could remember how the fog one ended because they made references to it in this one. Its for PC and I have a mac now so I guess Im out of luck going back to play it but I definitely recommend that one and this one too!
I recommend this game!

Legends of Atlantis: Exodus
Atlantis is facing its end of days and it's up to you to save the people and their kingdom in this innovative and exciting time management game!
This plays like your typical builder game except there are some buildings I have never seen before which gives it originality. There are achievements to earn so that was fun and most of them were completely doable but some I really struggled with and did not finish. Usually I can't finish playing a timed game until I have the expert time in everything but in this game I let it go. I found that some levels were almost impossible to complete no matter what strategy I used. If you are able to complete all the levels with expert scoring then you open up bonus levels kind of like roads of rome.
I found this game to be really fun but also really busy. There were almost too many different kinds of buildings. Some levels required way more building materials than others. I felt like the last levels were almost easier than some of the beginning ones which was strange. I guess it just depends which ones you excel at. I seem to stink at any game where you have to get a lot of water to put fires out. I did ok with roads of rome 3 but this one was not as easy to get water. In some locations, you don't get the saw master or the well and have to rely on a marketplace or from the natural resources in the level. Some of those played nice but others were really really hard to beat.
The nice thing about this game is that after each chapter, there is a hidden object scene and then at the end of a couple chapters, there is a match 3 type of game to refill your advisor's bike. Both these games made the game feel less repetitive. It was nice to have a break inbetween building levels.
My computer had major issues in the later levels when I used the custom cursor so I had to turn it off. It made the game run so much smoother and there is really no need for the custom one anyways. It doesn't change like in hidden object games to alert you of new places or what not. This game can also be played in relaxed mode although I don't know if you can get the bonus levels that way. All in all, I really enjoyed playing this game and I totally recommend it!
I would probably rate this a 3.5 but I'll round up to be fair. I really, really like the hidden object scenes in this game which is the reason for 4 stars instead of 3. They are all "find 12 of this, 12 of that" for example..."find 12 silvery objects, find 12 rubbery objects" etc I think this made the game quite unique and I liked when I ran into them instead of some games that make me groan.
This game has no difficulty options so there are sparkles in the whole thing although they didn't bug me much. There are lots of puzzles however three of the puzzles you do more than 1 time so its very repetitive. The story line started out cool but then got weird down the line and since it only had 4 chapters each one being the level on the elevator, what happens in the story got jumbled with the fact this game is rather short so it didn't make much sense. There is no map but you don't really need one. All the floors have names and if you need to get something done, its pretty easy to figure out what floor it will be on based on that.
I really liked playing this game but the last chapter really made this game feel kind of lame with the abrupt conclusion and therefore I feel kind of let down like this game started out so unique and then the ending was like WHAT!!! I recommend it for the steam punk style that I like and the unique hidden object scenes but if you are looking for something hard or long, this isn't it.
IF I had been new to this genre of games, this would have been a fantastic game to get me into timed management games. Having said that though, I am not a newbie to this genre and I like having some challenge and if you are looking for challenge, this game is NOT it. To teach someone how to play a time management game, this is one of the best I can recommend due to the fact there is very little challenge and every level pretty much stays the same with a little bit of upgrading but not much else.
There are a lot of locations to visit. I rated this game 4 stars and I was being nice because Id probably rate it 3 due to the awful level of challenge and the fact that I had already upgraded everything and still had 4 more locations to visit which meant the last 4 locations were very boring and repetitive. There was only 1 level that I didn't receive expert on the first time hence why I recommend this to beginners of this genre. Even on levels I completely sucked at and went slower than a turtle, I would get an expert score.
Had this game had better upgrades and more variety, I would have liked it a lot better but for a newbie, this is a game that will teach you the basics and you'll have fun at the same time. Kudos!
Most Standard Edition games that have come out within the last year that weren't originally Collector's Editions have been hit and miss. Some are awful, others are treasures. This one is a complete gem to play. The developer is Artifex Mundi and they never disappoint.
There are 3 levels of difficulty in this game which you are able to change through the options menu during the game. Apparently there is no walkthrough for this game and it is really not needed. Even though the game has a lot of locations, when a location is complete, the game won't let you go there anymore. For example someone will come and put police tape on it. The hint button is wonderful even in the hardest mode. It directs you where to go unlike some games that just say "there's nothing to do here". There is a map which works as a jump map but on expert you can't see where to go or tasks.
There are nicely done hidden object scenes that you play twice. The objects are easy to see and are interactive. This game has puzzles and they are all doable. There is one that you play 3 different times but its a puzzle that can be done so its not tedious like other games.
There is also a detective mode the game goes into to explain break-ins, murders, objects out of order etc. Its set like a hidden object scene. In expert, you don't get a list of what the out of place objects are but they are pretty easy to spot. In the other 2 levels you would get a list of what to find that is out of place. This gave the game a special factor. I liked the clues and the detective mode and how it broke down exactly what happened.
There are snakes in this game but they look incredibly fake. I did not come across any that looked like they were real so if you have a snake phobia, I can't see this being too frightening.
I was really happy with this game. It had a story line that just reeled me in from the start. It had great voiceovers and visuals. I liked the puzzles and hidden object scenes. The music was fitting for the game and I had a really fun time playing this. It beats me why this wasn't made into a Collector's edition because it has the quality to be one. Maybe next time they will because even though it had an ending, it did give the illusion that the journey was not over. Id love a second one.
Kudos Devs!! & thank you for a great quality game that is a standard edition!! Its nice to see developers still do this from time to time. xxx
So, when I first started this game, I was WOWED. I mean Taba Games up to this point have had pretty mediocre games like the Ghost Town-Cats of Ulthar or Flying Dutchman-Secets of the seas although I did purchase both and enjoyed them. Its just, I know from playing lots of games that both those games weren't really up to the same par we see other developers but I digress.
So when this first started, it had new and unique mini games that had you actually doing the task with the mouse. Like you have to cut the branches off a cactus by throwing this rope hook at it and pulling them down. This was not an easy mini game. Took me quite sometime to position the hook to actually make the branches fall down and that was really innovative and fun! There were others like that too. And then there were all sorts of weird characters that I've never seen in other games. Yes, its a missing fiancee but the day of the dead thing is a totally new area to explore and I really did love their little world and finding all the 7 sins that allow you to become dead to enter the "dead world" to find your fiancee and save her blah blah.
However, after you find all the sins, the game kind of goes off in a direction that I did not find really fun. You go to the dead world BUT you have to keep coming back to the live world even though you are temporarily dead to do mundane tasks. THANK GOD for a jump map because without it, my dogs would be barking right now. I usually don't use jump maps often but in this game you have to because there are soooo many locations and they are sooo spread out. I kind of hoped the dead world would have more to offer but it felt like the first part of the game was designed by one person and the 2nd half of the game was by another and they felt crunched for time so they just sped it up and put a bunch of weird stuff to do.
Even near the ending which I found very abrupt with a lot of unanswered questions, the game kept dragging on to find more things so you can get back on the train to go home. But it never quite clears up why you were even there and everyone has these monotone voices instead of ones that would make me believe they are scared.
So, first part I would have rated it 5 stars but the second and third parts, I give maybe 2 stars so I would think it evens out to about 3. The graphics are superb like I really wish the second part hadn't been so funky because this could have been a really, really great game but it just fell short. Those fun mini games are just in the beginning too. The last puzzle is impossible. You are racing cockroaches and it tells you the directions but I still couldn't figure out how to jump over things. Overall, it was just a disappointing game.
Also, the music although new and interesting at first, is the same throughout the entire game and it loops and loops and by the end I had it on silent because I couldn't stand it any longer. Not a huge deal, but a soundtrack with a few more songs would have been great. However, I really did enjoy the hidden object scenes. They were interactive and plentiful without there being too many.
I can't say whether Id recommend this game. The first part of the game is spectacular so demo it for the hour and be content that the rest of it, really fails in comparison to the demo and its a real shame.
I hate this game. I've tried many times to play it and I did get all the way to the last level but something in this game has always been missing. The first in this series is one of my all time FAVORITE match 3 games. I love the noises it makes, love the atmosphere and all the spooky rooms. But in that one, at least you were helping rebuild a spooky house and it had some storyline and some rebuilding aspect to it. In this one, there is none of that. There are doors in a house that are sealed up and each time you complete a level in that chapter, you get to fill in a mark on the door and eventually the door will open and let you into the next room. However, after the first couple times you do this, it becomes repetitive. It becomes boring. There was nothing to look forward to doing. And the rooms, although they have great ideas, some of them were just so tedious or so boring. I felt like there was no inbetween here. I have been playing this game on and off for almost a year and Im finally to the last level and instead of using my 6440 gem points to just skip every level to have completion after realizing I hate the last room creatures, I just had to dex it completely.
To be fair, I never demoed this. I loved the first one so much, I just thought Id love this one as much but unfortunately it isn't so. I won't recommend or not recommend this game as its to each their own. I personally don't like it but I do imagine others will love it. I'll replay the first millions of times before I ever give this another go.
This is the first time in a longggg, longggg time that I've started a game and finished it in the same session. Once I started this, I simply could not stop. The storyline was great at first, got a little weird near the ending but overall was really good. The bonus chapter is not needed for a satisfactory ending of this game but it does show what happens after the fact and how you save the town. It took me about an hour. The entire game took me 5 hours and it was so incredibly fun and interactive.
The mini games/puzzles were quite easy but it didn't faze me because the overall feeling of this game especially the amazing voiceovers and soundtrack really give this game a WOW factor that I have not experienced for quite sometime. The hidden object scenes were interactive. Elephant games has collectibles in this one. 10 pets to find and they go into the bonus chapter as well. I found all of them.
This game surprised me because it had no journal and no achievements and I found myself really enjoying that as I never use the journal anyways AND it was nice to play a game without popups coming up all the time for "getting 3 objects in 3 seconds" etc etc. The bonus section features the pets you find, the cursed cards, wallpaper, soundtrack, PUZZLES! which were so fun. 9 of them, a bonus chapter and another mini game which was really just playing music on the organ grinder itself.
For once, I never got bored, never lost interest. Since I kept on going, I never got lost. You can change your difficulty level in the options menu. The map is very useful and is a jumper which is nice because there are a lot of locations you need to go back to. I just had an overall feeling of happiness playing this game although the story isn't really all that happy until the end. Its all about revenge and how love can make you into a better person. After all....an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
I definitely recommend this game. I found it creative, fun, genius, a great storyline that is different from most!, lots of interactive areas, lots of tasks to do and the bonus chapter is very good too not just a bunch of hidden object scenes thrown together like some! well thought out! A definite game of the year contender!!!
I usually love this developer's games and I do love match 3's so I am really not sure why this game bores me so much. I have played the entire first farm and I have no desire to go on to finish the next 2. I found the adventure parts bland and repetitive and the match 3 parts dull as well. I am not really into farm games so maybe that is why it didn't hold my attention but usually match 3 games have action and this one didn't. The levels didn't get much harder as I played timed and never had to replay a level. I just felt like something was lacking and I kept thinking...ok this game will improve and for me it just didn't. I know this isn't a bad game. It is well made and has quality graphics but it isn't for me and I regret buying it.
