I used to love the hidden expedition games but this one is just not up to par with the rest of their games! The prequel to this, The devils triangle, was a fun, challenging game with lots of puzzles and crisp, clear hidden object scenes and I really enjoyed playing it but this one was boring. It started out promising in the first chapter but by the 3rd it was just hidden object scene after hidden object scene. There were no fun puzzles only the same drab ones we see all the time. Hidden Expedition games were up there with the Mystery Case Files games as they really set the bar high for everyone else but this game although long awaited and wanted just fell flat for me.
The most annoying part of this game is the sensitivity of the screen. In lots of scenes you need objects that are in the corner or bottom of the screen but half the time it pushes you out of the scene each time. Its annoying to be solving a puzzle or hidden object scene and then keep getting thrown out because of where you click. There just wasn't a lot going on in this game past the 1st chapter and the ending OMG for a 2 part story, the conclusion should have been epic as the story itself had promise and was beautifully done in the first game. However in this game, the developers seemed to lose their creativity because this plot went nowhere AND there was no sound at the end. A lot of the cutscenes had voiceovers but at least in my game, the ending did not have sound. What a let down!
And this game is ridiculously short! It just kind of ends abruptly after some badly done boss battle. I really had higher hopes for this game as they used to be one of my favorite series but Im just not pleased with this game although a couple of the hidden object scenes were AMAZING! Some of the best interaction scenes Ive run across in sometime. If only the entire game had been that amazing....
I don't recommend this game.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this type of puzzle. I have a bunch on my iphone too! LOL I randomly stumbled upon this type of puzzle one day about a year ago and I have bought every one in this series. The fairy tales one is the best in my opinion because of the color scheme but I liked learning about the different holidays and you get bonus puzzles without having to pay double for it! I wish more of these type of games were released a year and more from this developer please! Ive noticed lately that this developer has more and more offerings that I enjoy more and more!
My only wish was that there were more of the harder grids because I am seasoned at this game and love the 20x20 and up grids but love this game. Highly recommend. The music does repeat but simply turn it off and put on itunes! I actually liked the music because although repetitive, it at least changed for every holiday and this isn't a game that I play all at once so when Id come back, I welcomed the same music because it gave me that warm and fuzzy, oh how I missed you game feeling =)
I recommend ALL the games in this series :)

Im surprised this game doesn't have more stars because its really FUN. Its not the hardest game although there were a few spots where I was absolutely stuck as I played in advanced mode and there is no hint outside of the hidden object scenes but eventually I stumbled upon what to do. However, this game kept my attention because for one I am a sucker for crime novels/games. I had not read the book this is based on just heard of it but I thought the storytelling in this was very well done.
I happen to like the pick and select dialogue because it makes it more murder mystery who done it like in real life with the asking of the questions and I LOVED the voiceovers in this game. They are EXTREMELY well done!! The ending was marvelous! Finally a game that does voiceovers to close the story and tell everything that happened! It was like reading a book but playing it! This game is an example of what I want to see more of. Games based on books that are done well and move along well unlike some other offerings I can think of which have been pure dialogue and boring.
Like I said this wasn't the hardest game but the fun factor is what made me give it 5 stars. Its also one of those games I didn't buy right away but I kept thinking about so I had to go back and get it to settle my mind and Im so glad I did. Also, I remember this developers first victorian mysteries which was back in the old style hidden object only scenes and although perfect for that era of gaming, would have been a bore today. So I am glad to see that the developers stepped up their game and modernized this one! Truly enjoyed it! I didn't even mind that there were sparkles to light up the hidden object scenes in advanced mode, I loved this game so much! I never give 5 star ratings but this game taught me it doesn't have to be a great CE, stars, bells and whistles to make it be an enjoyable great game!! Kudos! I look forward to more!
Oh & as for length, I usually am a fast player but this game took me roughly 4-5 hours because there was so much to do and explore and since it had a fair amount of hidden object scenes, I stopped playing periodically and would return the next day. I can't say enough good things about this game. xx
I recommend this game!

I love cats so that is what made me gravitate to this game and I liked how cats are something new to this genre that we haven't seen before however this game needs some tweaking. This is what I call a "sloppy finish". You have a game here that has a good plot/storyline, is fun to play in some parts and explore, has great visuals yet falls short in the sounds/music, gameplay. Since this game has a great plot and lots of cutscenes that go into detail about the story, those cutscenes needed to have SOUND! not just music, SOUND! The telling of a story needs to have movie quality in my opinion not no sound and a storybook. This is a game not a book.
Secondly, this game stays mostly in the same area the entire time. Yes you go into different shops but after the first hour or so you mainly stay in the house/by the water and you go back and forth between the two only. If I needed an item, it would appear right away. There was barely any thought to this game and even though not every game needs to be this huge challenge, IMO knowing you need a crowbar and then picking one up 2 seconds later isn't that fun.
My biggest pet peeve though were the controls of this game. I played this on a laptop and it has a touch pad option where you don't have to click down the button however this game wouldn't let me just tap. In a lot of parts it wouldn't recognize me just tapping a hidden object so I would have to actually click the button. Its not a huge deal but it made it so I couldn't play this game late at night when others were nearby. Not a show stopper but I expect new games to work with all new technology. The wide screen did work however! YAY
I also enjoyed finding the 24 cats as a special extra. It also had a brief ending in the SE version so we aren't left hanging. Some of the cats were incredibly hard to find and some I missed the first time then realized they were huge lol but I found all of them.
Overall I recommend this game but it could have been better, a lot better but I am looking forward for this developers next release and hope they keep things I and others have said in mind. xx
I recommend this game!

I had felt for awhile that blue tea games fragmented object scenes were getting old. There are only so many things you can piece together before it all runs together especially when it looks like you are collecting exactly the same thing every time so I did enjoy the fact they changed it up and put in actual hidden objects. Those scenes were interactive and beautifully done however there were too many for my taste. I prefer more adventure to hidden object scenes but thats just me. IF the developers decide to keep actual objects in the next game and choose to have that many, it would be better in my opinion if they had some fragments and then some regular because it keeps the game fun. I also enjoyed the change up in mini games. They weren't too hard but it wasn't putting animals in the correct order either like some of their other games.
The actual game was splendid. The atmosphere was wonderful, graphics beautiful, voice overs well done to blue tea games standards. I feel like they really stepped up their game with this offering because the last one about the snow queen although beautiful was downright boring in my opinion and this one kept my attention the whole time. I also liked the twists in the story and I thought it was over a couple times but it kept going and I love that especially when its a great game.
Also, I love how you can change difficulties in the options menu during the game without having to start your whole game over. I always play hard but sometimes there is just one scene that does your head in and its nice to know skipping it is possible :)
I had a fun time playing this game and it took me about 4 hours give or take to play it. Kudos!
I recommend this game!

First of all I want to say that I REALLY, REALLY enjoyed the uniqueness of this game. I loved the fact the developers took a chance and put out a disgusting putrid game because I loved every bit of it and I wish other developers would come out with some of the mind bending things I encountered playing this game. And although at first I wasn't crazy about the morphing object scenes, they grew on me and I actually preferred them to finding horseshoes or butterflies. Thanks for changing it up!
That being said, the reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because the game was basically played only in the first 3 acts. There was lots to do and discover and most of it took lots of thinking. The strategy guide helped a bit and I did need it especially at the end or I never would have solved the last puzzle but the last 2 chapters fell short for me. There was nothing really going on and that saddened me. For a game that had been so mind blowing in the first 3 acts prior, I just expected something more dramatic especially at the ending. Its like the developers didn't know how to end it so they just put in some corny staged lines and that was it. Also a lot of the puzzles were so vague with what to do that I had to skip them or cheat with the walkthrough. The fact the bonus section is the door tokens is unique BUT I would have preferred a bonus game or at least a sneak peek to what was in store for next year. In my opinion this game is impossible without the walk through and I was glad I had it in the game rather than having to small screen it or what not and I am a person who NEVER uses walk-throughs even during adventure games. So even though I am glad I bought the CE (which I got on sale) I feel a little let down by there being no extras. I mean there arent even wallpapers or music or anything else besides the game.
However, the overall game was wonderful. I loved the sound effects, music, overall ambiance. Im glad someone finally took a chance. For people who are complaining about the disgusting things, you were warned so you downloaded it at your own risk. I personally am not disturbed by much so anything goes when it comes to games or life haha
For people who are wondering about length. I usually finish most games in 3-4 hours maybe 5 if the game has a lot of backtracking so I am a fast player. Adventure games usually take me longer, sometimes weeks as they should be played slowly and its hard to solve most right away. Anyways I played this game mostly at night in 2 hour periods and it took me like 2 weeks give or take to play it. Its mostly an adventure game. IF I had taken more time to figure out ALL the puzzles, (I did do some but some were like WHAT IN THE WORLD DO I DO??) this game would have taken twice as long but all in all I think I spent maybe 20+ hours playing this game and I loved every disgusting moment of it which is why I wish the last 2 chapters had been better executed and thought out.
Kudos Big Fish Games. xx (it was worth the wait for the mac but can you like make sure we get it at the same time next yr thanks)
I recommend this game!

I beta tested this game and LOVED it and then it took forever and a day to come out and I think it got rushed or something because its so SHORT! Id rather have a good short game over a long and drawn out boring one but for mac users, you always get the full hour demo not the sample like pc users and in the hour, I am in the last chapter about to beat the game! I LOVE this game though. Its humorous. I love the characters personality and antics. It reminds me of the game "The Fool" only more unique. I love the association hidden object scenes instead of the usual but due to the fact I basically finished the game in the hour period, I just can't purchase it even with a free game coupon. I mean I just played the entire game! So developers, if you release more of these, which I hope you will, please add more to it and at least make it 2 hours because Id buy a 2 hour game...please. Complete disappointment :(
I don't recommend this game.

This game is rather boring. I think I got a deal on it because I remember not caring so much for it so it must have been one of those deals that springs up randomly when you make a purchase. How I wish it didn't spring up.
The game takes place at Notre Dame church and around it. I liked all the different doors being locked initially but once opened they brought you nowhere special. There were a lot of tasks that needed to be done later and they seemed epic like what should be found within them would awe the audience but it would be a piece of colored glass or a brick. WOW. (sarcasm). I only own one other hidden mysteries game so they really aren't my cup of tea but I found this one terrible.
Every other scene is a hidden object scene and its a complete junkpile. Find a butterfly, horseshoe, vacuum cleaner. I think I found a fleur de lis (spelling?) in every single scene and a horseshoe! If you are going to have sooo many hidden object scenes then you need to mix it up! not to mention none of them were interactive which just is a bore when there are soooo many. There was hardly any adventure, just hidden objects galore. I would have liked more period pieces instead of modern items. It was just a lackluster job. The graphics were bad and the storyline was a mystery that ended badly in my opinion. I can't believe I even got through this game!
The only upside to this game was there was a map that told you what and where you needed to go but it also told you things on the map that you couldn't do yet so you had to decipher which makes the game a little tougher but just a little. The reviewer who said this game was just for expert players is wrong. I consider myself an expert player and this game was too easy in the puzzles and hidden object aspect so maybe figuring out where to go and what to do is hard but just use the map. Too bad its not jumpable because it would have made that part a bit better but overall the game was just lacking something. No voiceovers, no interactive scenes, not an engaging plot. I don't recommend this game.

When I first demo'ed this game, I hated it but somehow it grew on me because I purchased it later on. I also passed the first time on Phantasmat and its now one of my favorite games so maybe I just wasnt in the mood the first time I tried this on. For a standard release, this is a pretty good game. Lots of voiceovers, locations, a jumpable map which made the game more doable. I liked being able to double click and waalaaa Im in the location I needed. This game wasn't the hardest game Ive ever played considering the map made it easier but it still was challenging at times because things you needed to do wouldn't be on the map at all times! I also liked the hidden object scenes as they were easy to locate items but also liked the noise when I found them. The sound the objects make when clicked can break a game for me. I guess Im just picky LOL
As for the storyline...well it started out pretty good but by the ending, it was cheesy and since this is a movie, one would think the voiceovers would be a little better but the main girls voice is like silverware in a blender haha not very pleasant but when I tried to turn off the voices then you miss hearing everyone and that is what makes the game so good! So i just sucked it up and endured her as she wasn't always talking. The ending was pretty bad. Wrapped everything up but man it was cheesy! Could have just ended when she obviously saves her mom instead of going on and on and then on....that part really made it stink but overall it was a good game.
This isn't a very long game but its a fun game. Its the type of game I play inbetween big games like for instance prior to this game I had played Shiver:Poltegeist CE and now I am going to play Escape from Ravenhurst CE. Just because this is a short game doesn't mean it isn't worth the money. It took me a couple nights to play and I enjoyed it. Will play again someday unlike a few others I have bought recently. Cheers :)
Side note: this was a lot like dorian gray only dorian gray was wayyyyyy more in depth and a lot better :)
I recommend this game!

This game took me forever to finish but not because it was extremely long but because it was kind of boring. I remember when this came out and I really wanted to purchase it but I bought it recently for 2.99 and Im glad I didn't pay full price. The theme is the same as many other games. Car breaks down, trapped in a house with ghosts, must help them escape their demons blah blah. The thing with this game that is kind of cool is you decide the ending. I would love to know what happens if you choose the guy as I picked the girl but I can't say Id want to play this game again to find out.
There were sooo many hidden object scenes and they were nice and the items were drawn well and they were somewhat interactive but there would be 3 per room and it was just overkill for me. If it would have had a few less than I would have finished the game quicker but Id need a break after going through so many in a short time.
I got a better deal waiting but had I bought this when it first came out, I probably would have liked it more. The other cool thing is depending on what mode you play, (I played hard), you get different hidden objects and mini games in each one so essentially its like 2 games in one, if only it was a little more exciting...
I don't recommend this game.
