You play The Legacy: The Tree of Might as Diana our portal traveling heroine. What an adventure lies ahead for Diana as she travels through the portals to different worlds in search of a cure for an epidemic that has been unleashed on earth. Will you be able to save the day in this absolutely fabulous game?
When I started the game I was a bit put off as the action seems to be a bit slow. As I dragged through the demo trying to find bits and pieces I thought the game was a bit of a yawn-fest but then something changed and I found myself so involved in the game that the time flew by. I have always loved games from Five-BN Games because they offer so much to do and have excellent storylines. When I see their name on a game I know it will be one that I add to my gaming library – usually before I even play the demo. The Legacy: The Tree of Might is one of those games that is destined to become a favorite as it has a surprise storyline. One of the very first games from this developer started my love affair with their games and I have never yet been disappointed.
The HOPS are so creative and offer the silhouette interactive style scenes that are signature with 5-BN Games. Silhouette scenes are not my favorite but this developer does them so well that I find them enjoyable.
If you enjoy puzzles then you will most certainly enjoy this game since there are a lot of them and most are more challenging than the easy-peasy ones we find in most HOPA games. One of the very first puzzles in the game had me scratching my head as I tried to figure out what moves I needed to make to get through a maze. That one was a lot of fun!
Trust me; this game is so different than what you see in the early scenes. It changes into one of the best games I’ve played in ages. Not only is the game excellent, it is one that if full of twists and turns. Diana is in for the adventure of a lifetime in The Tree of Might. Okay, even though I am gushing about this game and love it, please try the demo to see if it is one that might be a keeper for you as well. Happy gaming!
I recommend this game!

Welcome to the Museum of Mysticism and Monstrosity Mr. Cole. In the fifth game of the Demon Hunters series Ascendance you will play the game as Hector Cole a well-known and excellent Demon Hunter. You have been hired by the Director of the Museum Edmund Strange to investigate and above all find a missing tourist who never left the museum at closing time. You are the last hope Hector so get to work and delve into the mystery and find that missing tourist.
The Demon Hunters series is one that I have always enjoyed but to be honest as I played the demo I was skeptical that this was a game from the same series as it seemed to be somehow a comical parody but it might have been the corny dialogue. However, as I progressed in the game and got to the point where the demo ended things really heated up and I was hooked.
The HOPS are much the same as we always see so there is nothing new but there is a bit of a catch with some of the HOP scenes so you will need to keep your eyes open. Where I had the most fun with the game is the Puzzles that for me were excellent. Although we have seen them before they seemed a bit different and even a tad more difficult.
Once the storyline developed it became very good and made sense which often doesn’t seem to be the case with some games. As I moved forward I felt like I was part of the mystery and knew there was more to the story of the missing tourist. Was it all a hoax or is there truly something strange going on at the museum. For me the game became one that I enjoyed playing and it kept me involved as I moved forward. Thanks Brave Giant you created an awesome game with Demon Hunters V. Ascendance is entertaining and held my interest throughout the game. I now hope to see more of this series in the future. As always, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy Ascendance as well. Happy gaming!
I recommend this game!

It looks like BFG has gone all out this year with Halloween games and then some. Almost every game since September has been devoted to some sort of horror; as well as monsters and ghouls of one sort or another. Domini has jumped into the arena with Halloween Chronicles Monsters Among Us and it is a Halloween delight. For those of you who love this time of year and all that it has to offer, you will probably like this game. Even with Halloween not being my favorite event, I am enjoying Halloween Chronicles.
Although I find the game is rather slow in the beginning, I do enjoy the HOPS and Puzzles a lot. The only things that I dislike in the game are the very slow beginning and the unrealistic color palette that Domini has once again chosen for a game. That being said I like the graphics in this game far more than those in other recent games from Domini.
Domini has created some wonderful HOPS that include a slider type scene that I haven’t seen in ages. Most of the HOPS are very well-designed and blend into the storyline which increased the fun I am having as I play through this entertaining and long game.
There is not a lot to say about the Puzzles in Halloween Chronicles except that all of them are excellent. What I appreciate is that we do have a choice of selecting whether we would like “Easy or Hard Puzzles” when we set up the game but you can change your selection as you encounter each puzzles. I normally select the “Hard” setting but I did change that to “Easy” once or twice when I didn’t want to spend a lot of time solving the puzzle in the more difficult setting.
This is such a fun game and, at least to me, it is one of the best games during the fall season. Even though it is full of monsters of one sort or another, I didn’t find any of them to be too gross or even frightening. This is my type of Halloween game and it was more fun since I didn’t feel like I was running for my life as I played the game. Even though this Halloween Chronicle is the perfect game for me, please try the demo to see if it is just right for you. Happy gaming!

Elephant Games has done it again with the second game in the Paranormal Files series. The Tall Man has a very good storyline that is sure to keep you involved as you play the game as Rick Rogers who recently found his abilities to hunt ghosts and subdue evil entities. What really grabbed my attention right from the beginning is the mystery aspect of the game as you try to sort fact from fiction and find out what happened to Tina Rice. Hopefully you will be able to prevent the events of that fateful night a year ago from recurring as the same group of friends has once again gathered on the edge of the forest for yet another house party.
IMHO, this is a very entertaining and well-crafted game. As we go through the numerous tasks that make this a HOPA game we will play some excellent HOPS as well as the Puzzles that I thoroughly enjoyed. Both the HOPS and the Puzzles fit the storyline and they made progressing in the game a bit more seamless. Of course, we still have the missing keys to find and then that zipper pull that will inevitably make most of us groan. Hey, what would a hidden object game be without them?
Although I have not finished the game, what I have been able to complete make this one of the best games I have played in quite some time. The team at Elephant knows what it takes to create a game that makes sense and tells a story in a way that happens to keep me involved. Thank you BFG and Elephant for bringing us this second Paranormal Files game. The Tall Man is everything that I love in a great HOPA game and one that I knew I would want to add to my gaming library. Even though this game is perfect for me and the way I like to play, as always, please try the demo to see if the Tall Man is one you will enjoy as well. Happy gaming!

If you love a great historical game Secrets of Great Queens has returned this time with Regicide. I loved the first game – Old Tower and have been waiting for two years hoping there would be another game in the series. History has been one of my passions so when I see a game based on historical events it is sure to be a keeper for me.

King Henri IV has been assassinated by Francois Ravaillac and you play the game as Alfonso Campanella the head of the Royal Secret Service. With your companion Adrianna at your side you are off to find out the truth of who hired Francois and to clear the name of Queen Marie who many believe was behind the assassination.

With most of the more recent games containing only three or four chapters this game is a treat with five plus the bonus game. The graphics are colorful and crisp with realistic looking characters and this always adds to my enjoyment of any game. While the characterizations are excellent, the voiceovers do not even attempt to sound realistic but that’s not surprising.
The HOPS are excellent and well-designed with many of them including puzzles. I enjoyed the variety in the HOPS and even those that were not my favorite list style were still very good. The Puzzles in the game were more interesting and most seemed to have a bit more challenge – another good thing about this game.
This is a wonderful and refreshing game without glowing dark eyes and some evil entity attempting a takeover of humanity! For many, this might just be another same ole, same ole HOPA game but since I love a great historical game based mostly on true events my criteria might be a bit different. My enjoyment of a game is mostly based on the storyline as well as the HOPS and Puzzles. Secrets of Great Queens: Regicide is quite entertaining to play and has a well-developed storyline. With excellent graphics, sound, and interesting characters Secrets of Great Queens becomes the complete package for me. Even though this is a game I will buy, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy. Happy gaming!
I recommend this game!

A TOTALLY CREEPY AND SCARY HALLOWEEN STORY

Let me begin by saying that I am mostly a fan of the fantasy HOPA game BUT as we approach Halloween we have seen a few creepy games and Halloween Stories the Black Book is by far the best of the best. This is one awesome, scary game. There were times I had to stop and catch my breath as I was playing. I never liked horror movies or even wanted to go near a haunted house when I was a kid even though my dad, being the big kid that he was, set one up in our garage each Halloween. If you love being frightened, and I mean having some great jump-scare moments, then this is definitely the game for you.
Although I don’t generally care for this type of game, Elephant Games did such an awesome job creating the characters and the real haunted house feel. While playing the game as Jen, I actually felt like I was walking the halls and entering the rooms of the haunted house and other areas in the game. Never knowing what was behind a door, or hanging from the ceiling kept me playing this game. When I had to stop and play a HOP scene or a puzzle it was almost a relief from the scare factor that I felt as I moved around the scenes. The HOPs and Puzzles were well integrated into the game and they didn’t feel as if they were added to the game as an afterthought simply to have the required HOPs or Puzzles.
If you love Halloween, you will most likely love this game. The Black Book is much better than the first game in the series that was child’s play compared to this one. I would not recommend this game for young children as this is a game that really should have a PG-13 rating or at least one of those generally meaningless warnings that BFG once put in some of the games. This is one very scary game that I think most older players will appreciate. I don’t do creepy, but I found myself involved in this well-crafted game and although I can’t say I loved it, I do think it deserves a 5-star rating because the game is everything that Halloween is all about. As always, PLEASE try the demo to see if this is the Halloween game you have been waiting for. Happy gaming!

Dark City: Munich gets my vote for one of the most ridiculous games that I have played this year. The previous game in the series was so good that I looked forward to playing Dark City: Munich but somehow the game fell far short of my expectations. Personally, I found the game plodding and filled with more than enough of those simplistic storybook HOPS to end my romance with HOP games. There were puzzles in the mix but the game seemed like it was all about those storybook HOPS. I was so sick of playing through those very simple scenes that I finally quit the game.
For me it was surprising that this game came from 4Friends who has developed some of my favorite games over the years. I automatically purchase every game they release since they are always wonderful but somehow Dark City: Munich didn't ring my gaming bell. The storyline was excellent and I loved the whodunit theme with the premise of a hidden, sub-culture that lives among the citizens of Munich. That part of the game was terrific but it was the execution of the game that couldn’t hold my attention. Even though I didn’t make it to the end of the game, it still seemed very short. I am generally a very slow player but I was able to march through almost the entire game in under three hours.
When I played one of the first HOP scenes in the game I loved it and thought that Dark City Munich would be terrific, however that great HOP was followed by numerous mini-HOPS and then far too many of those silly storybook scenes for my liking. The Puzzles in the game were at least better than the HOPs but they still seemed generally too easy with only a few requiring much thought to complete.
The beauty about playing games is that here at BFG there are many terrific game developers and even with all of that talent, not all games are the same in the way that they are received by individual gamers. We all have differing tastes in games and what I might like, you might not. In the end, for me Dark City: Munich was a bust but, as always, I recommend that you try the demo because this might be the perfect game for you. Happy gaming!
I don't recommend this game.

Mary Knots: Garden Wedding is a remake or copycat of a favorite classic garden improvement game series . Unfortunately Mary Knots: Garden Wedding lacks the character and charm of the original. When I saw the game I installed it immediately in hope that it would be quite a bit of fun, when in fact it is rather drab and washed out.
The first thing that I noticed when starting the game is that there are very few options available. There is a button that either turns the sound or the music off but it offers no slider to set your desired volume. Okay I can live with that I simply turn down the volume on my speakers. The game does offer a relaxed mode so that is good because I dislike playing beat the clock. When I began the game there is a tutorial of sorts but when I was instructed to zoom into an area by holding the control key that was a no-go for me as I don’t play near my computer or laptop. I attempted to use the various mouse controls to make the zoom function work but it didn’t happen.
The major downfall for me is that when I started having the sales, the items displayed are so small and washed out that it was difficult to determine what I needed to find. In the end the game could have been great with a bit more programming, color and larger visuals of the items on the sale board. Unfortunately, in the end this washed out version of one of my favorite series just didn’t hit the mark for me. As always, please try the demo as this might be a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

Grim Façade is another of those series that seems to never end and honestly, I was quite prepared to not even play the demo of the game let alone purchase it. However in another surprise for me, AMAX has created a Grim Façade that I actually like and have enjoyed playing. Perhaps it is because some recent games from developers have made it difficult to find one or more hidden items before we can make initial progress in a game. I really like the fact that in the Black Cube I didn’t need to scratch my head to figure out where to begin and since it was evident that we needed to figure it out quickly; I found it easy to at least begin the game.
I’ve stopped writing reviews where I will give away the storyline and itemize every little detail as I believe that gamers are very smart and truly want to figure it out for themselves. After all, IMHO, discovery is half the fun of playing a game. If you want more information before you try the game there are a few reviewers here who write very comprehensive detailed reviews to provide that information for you.
Although the storyline might seem confusing, I found it to be interesting and it kept me playing the game. I loved the graphics because AMAX creates such realistic characters in its games.
I enjoyed the HOPS that I found to be well designed even though some items might have been difficult to find. The puzzles were terrific and although they were not difficult they were entertaining and fit well with the gameplay. I often become weary of a game when there are far too many puzzles that make it seem like we are never moving forward. Not so with the Black Cube, because I enjoyed the puzzles that included some I haven’t seen in a while and others that are my favorite types in a game.
All in all, Grim Façade the Black Cube is a good game and one that I found entertaining. Not everyone will agree but at least for me it is one of the better games I have played this year. Although this game is one that I love I always recommend that you try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy also. Happy gaming!

Chimeras Heavenfall Secrets is game number eight in the Chimeras series, one that I think should probably go away, at least for those of us who are past their tween years. That being said, the original game in the series Tune of Revenge to this day remains one of my favorite all time games. Chimeras Heavenfall is a decent game and one that, IMHO, is far better than the past several in the series.
Perhaps it is because I love fantasy games and am so happy to be past all of the creepy and psycho laden games of the past month. Although it won’t resonate with everyone, I quite enjoyed finding my way around this game. So what did I like or not like in the game? The graphics were gorgeous, crisp and full of color – something I happen to appreciate in the games I play. On the other hand the high-pitched voices, primarily of Astrid and Greta were not quite so good, which is generally the case when an adult script reader tries to emulate the voice of a child. What sold me on purchasing the game was the storyline along with the HOS and Puzzles.
The HOS scenes were good and not quite too easy. I had to use the dreaded hint button several times to make it through one of the early HOS in the game. I always enjoy a game where the HOS are done in the original list style that is used most frequently in this game, although there was some variety thrown into the mix. The Puzzles or mini-games are really excellent, and included many of my favorites. One or two of the multi-level puzzles took some time to solve as they increased in difficulty once you hit the third level - I think I must have spent almost a half hour on one of the door puzzles alone.
Okay, I hate to admit it but I never followed Harry Potter since my children were out of the nest when Harry rose to fame so I can play this game without comparison to that well-known series. I totally enjoyed Chimeras Heavenfall Secrets and didn’t need to think about what Harry would do as I proceeded through the game. All in all I have found the game entertaining and quite interesting as I worked with Astrid to rescue her friend Greta. As always, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy this game as well. Happy gaming!
