This is a Free to Play game, but so addictive. If you have the patience to wait for your three turns, and the strategic mind to hold on to them, you will heartily enjoy this candy match 3 game that takes you around the world. New cities are added as the game is updated and upgraded. There are also tools that you can win or pay for if you don’t have the patience to wait for them to come along in daily events, lottery winnings, or other items.
You start in Sydney, and work your way westward, with various stops along the way in each town as you build up resources, like knowledge, building materials, and luxuries. There are also side puzzles that can help you gain materials by helping out scientists, city engineers, and media personalities. With each puzzle you get three attempts to earn coins to help pay for upgrades, resources centers, and game tools and enhancers. The bright candies are flavours of lemon yellow, cherry red hearts, blue raz triangles, green apple, chocolate octagons, and grape purple squares.
There are other candy matching games out there, but this one is very fun, and you have a sweet-natured lady along as your companion to encourage you whenever you make some great moves. Different kinds of matches will give you in-game tools like bombs, full row annihilators, and lightning strikes that take out one certain flavour of gummy completely from the grid when you switch it with that colour. Mixing these together will result in amazing combos. Swap a lightning strike with another, and your entire gummy grid is wiped out, but that is a very good thing! Swap a bomb with a row annihilator, and it will take out three rows horizontally and vertically. Swap two row annihilators, and the take out two rows in both directions. That is where strategy comes in.
Each puzzle is different, but you get three tries for each one, and are rewarded with coins, and the more difficult the stage, the more coins you get. Some of the puzzles are timed, and some contain time bombs that you must take down before it makes you lose your entire puzzle, a very bad thing. Time bombs bad, lightning strikes, good! Keep some coffee and sweets around, because once you master these strategies, you may find yourself playing Gummy Drop for hours, and at every chance you can get.
I recommend this game!

Although I did enjoy the story breaks in the game about the classic hero Jason and his crew from Argos, I found the game to be mediocre, and pretty much a waste of time. The graphics looked washed out instead of classical, and it was hard to determine what icon was what under the foggy mists.
As you went along in the game, you would get gifts from the Olympians, but you had to find their gold icons in the grids to activate them. Hera’s icon was a peacock, Athena’s was an owl, Zeus’ was a eagle, and so on. Often, hunting for these golden birds would distract from the match 3 subject matter of the game itself, and the gift you would receive sometimes would no be worth the effort you put into getting it.
Along with the story of Jason, there were other intermissions where you would use the gold coins that you are rewarded with in the game grid levels to build a city worthy of a classical period heroic leader. The graphics in that were not much better than the game grids. The sound was more annoying that enhancing, and I found that this game was worth an uninstall once I finished testing it. If you are a fan of Jason and the Argonauts, there are some great movies based on that subject that would be far better to spend times with than this game was. Play one of them instead.
I don't recommend this game.

Another Free to Play game comes to us, and this time it is from ERS Games Studios, the Cadillac of HMO-style games. They have brought us many hours of mysteries through the tales of Edgar Allan Poe, and yet again we are working with C. Auguste Dupin, a young Parisian detective, and his crew. Our work is cut out for us, too, because you never know where things might be or whom might be controlling them. There are many Poe games and the one constant is Dupin, but we really don't see much of him as we are running around mid-19th Century Paris working our own cases, getting to know everyone from the local laundress to the chef at everyone's favourite cafe. We even help out the crew of various dirigibles and hot air balloons that work their way over the city. We are not much a detective as the go to girl/guy for everyone, not unlike Dolly Levi. All kinds of people are looking for us to help them solve various cases, from the original Murder in the Rue Morgue to chasing down mummies, werewolves and escaped convicts. All this work does cost energy, and there are various ways to get it. Resting, as in not playing the game for a few hours. Eating, consuming pixelated noms and drinks to give you a boost, or working towards the rewards that will also give you those boosts.
You will work your way around the city, and as you solve more cases, more of the city opens up, with higher levels. Don't be in a rush to explore it all quickly, because, as is the case for most FTP games, they want to get you tempted enough to pay in real-life cash or credit for noms and gold coins. Having some patience makes this game worth the wait. Also, the hidden objects in the various places we visit will move about, so don't expect the same puzzle every time, and you will also find things that are unrelated to any case, but will help you build a collection of items and gems to make your gameplay better. This is the only downside. Keeping up with the various mysteries themselves balances out the fun factor.
If you have been following the Poe series by ERS Games, then this is a must have. If you have not, then this is also a good place to start, but don't get so into Nightfall that you never check out the other Poe games. It might be very easy to do that.
I recommend this game!

While this game did run the same kind of format that many builder/time management games do, it was clear to see that this was created by same artists that gave us the 7 Wonders series. In Kingdom Chronicles, we follow a young man, John Brave. He is quick to act with wisdom and determination to rebuild his kingdom from the coastline to the castle when he learns that it has been taken over by an evil lord and his mercenaries.
We are given tasks along the way, and build homes, low-tech supply centers for food, lumber, stone, and cash. Build barracks for our men at arms, and a town hall for our tax collectors. It is pretty much like most builders in the gameplay, but where the difference lies in is the delivery of a fast-paced game that outperforms many others. Our speed boost work a little too well as we see our workers zip around the screen, clearing, gathering, and building homes and shops at lightning speed when the magic tools are activated. Another great thing, is that those tools do not have a very long cool-down period when it comes to being reactivated. Kingdom Chronicles is a great choice when it comes to adventure/building games. If you enjoyed the My Kingdom for the Princess series, then this is a game you should not miss! Go download it now, and enjoy every minute of it!

If you are a fan of old school 2D games like the SNES' Super Mario Brothers or Castlevania or Sega's Sonic The Hedgehog, then this cute little game is exactly what you are looking for! In this game, you play as a little salamander that has to get past many enemies and obstacles to get to your next level. You do have allies that help along the way, like the tasty jellyfish and frogs, but your enemies are far more numerous. There are spikes, bumblebee cats, eels, sea dragons, big one-eyed bubble things that block your way, birds, and puffer fish with tractor beams. Just about everything is out to get you!
This game asks you to choose a screen resolution before you can play, so choose what looks best for you. Also, it is mouse driven, not joystick driven, so it might be a little odd to those who are used to the old-style console game pads. There are some perks in this game. You see, the little salamander loves bubble cake, and when there is bubble cake at the end of a level, he goes into god mode to get it, just plowing through all those bee cats, birds, dragons, and just about anything else to get at it. Sadly, these levels are usually at the end of a run, so you only see them about every ten levels. Also, you can play in race mode against computer opponents, and your salamander is far less vulnerable to spike and enemies, since it is some of your enemies you will be racing. This is a three lap run, similar to that in the older Need for Speed games.
Salawander is a fun, but frustrating diversion, but it is quirky and cute, and if you are stuck in the 90s when it comes to video games, then this might just be what you are looking for, and I would not blame you a bit. The games really were better back then, and rarely did any of them involve looking down the scope of some kind of high tech gun, like most of the games do lately. If you can get past all those things that like to burst your safety bubble, or think your little salamander is the tastiest thing since bubble cake, then you'll do fine.
I recommend this game!

Anyone who was a fan of REO Speedwagon back in the day or even still is now, will heartily enjoy this fresh take on a hidden object mystery. It features music from the band as we follow the misadventures of a rock magazine reporter that has been shadowing the band for quite some time. There are all kinds of puzzles to solve, and you not only need a keen eye, but a sharp ear, because you will be playing a rock version of Simon, and putting together puzzles that give you access to some great tunes.
If you came looking for a dark mystery to solve involving ghosts, Victorian mansions and secret inheritances, this is not the place. This is as modern as it gets, and the furthest back you might go will be to The Summer of Rock in 2012, which not only featured REO, but Styx and Boston. Yeah, it doesn't get much better than that! In this game, you find that on the eve of a red carpet gala at the home of a rich recluse, Kevin Cronin has gone missing, and you'll be using your reporting skills to find him. If you want to bring your passions for classic rock and mystery/puzzle solving together, you can not let the opportunity to play Find Your Own Way Home to slip by!

Playrix has a way of putting out some fun and addictive match 3 games, and this Kyodai-style swap-tile game is just one of many. If you ever played Atlantis Quest back in the days of early casual gaming, then you will find that Call of the Ages is very similar, but broadens your search to a much larger and more timely area as you are put in charge of finding various artifacts in history in a worldwide hunt.
Your first search starts in the U.S. during the Colonial Period where you are to look for an Iroquois peace pipe, and it goes from there to just about everywhere. You bring down tiles, swapping until the pieces of the artifact fall into place. You gain bombs, lightning bolts and other magical tools along the way, but it is best to hold off on using those until you reach the end of a puzzle, and that on little stubborn piece won't come loose.
If you are into the 7 Wonders series, or other artifact hunts, then Call of the Ages is exactly what you are looking for, but try not to get too disappointed when your one hour trial runs out. Take advantage of the BFG sales going on and get the full version right away, because this is one game that will keep you up all weekend long.

We’ve run across these kinds of themes in media before, in movies like That Thing You Do and School of Rock. We’ve also seen it in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, but this little casual sim makes you the manager of an up-and-coming rock band from Baltimore.
This band has a blue-sy kind of sound, and even features an electric violin. You do actually get to hear their tracks when they play at more elite venues, and if you are a fan of Dave Matthews Band, you will really enjoy these guys, whose name you have to give them.
The only problem I had with the game was that once more East Coast corridor venues opened up, the map you had to work with needed to be more precise. It was US map on the back of a diner place mat, and when we are pretty much working with only the New-Balti-Wash area at the onset, we definitely need bigger map for a smaller area to work with. Speaking of working, we do quite a bit, getting gigs, setting up advertising, taking opportunities lay down some tracks to hit the MP3 websites and more. This was a really fun game, and you might find that managing a fictional band is more fun that anyone ever realised. I don’t have the time or energy to do such a thing in real life, but if by chance, my lucky stars went supernova, and such a thing came my way, I’d run a Rock Tour.
I recommend this game!

This was the first time I had played an I Spy game, and I was glad to see it was created by Scholastic, a book company I had grown up with and also the publishing house that brought the Harry Potter series to North America. I also was glad to see that this was not the only game in the series. I found it fun, but a little slow moving at first, considering that every time you found an object on the puzzle, some kind of cute music had to play before you could click on the next item. No speed bonuses in the HOM. There are other kinds of puzzles, though, and once you think you have the game won, your little Dias de Muertas skeleton friend will invite you back into the house for a whole new set of puzzles and challenges.
As with most casual games, you do have to enter your name into a space at the beginning, but that is usually so the game will save fore the correct player if there is more than one. This time, it takes the player’s name and makes it part of the puzzles, making for a more personalised game that kids will really like. If you kids like the I SPY books, then they are sure to like these games, if you can get them to settle down long enough to play them. It takes a patient child to handle the I SPY games, but if parents have been using these games to keep kids occupied on road trips for generations, imagine what having a continuous loop for varying I SPY puzzles can do on a laptop. It was one fun and challenging game, but the graphics and sound could be polished up and timed a little better. As for the concept itself, very high on the value score.
I recommend this game!

I had downloaded this game awhile back, but just now had the opportunity to test it out. I played just the hour trial, and even though the hour went by quickly, this is not a match 3 game that is going to keep you up all weekend like Heroes of Kalevala or Imperial Island: Birth of an Empire.
You have been locked in some kind of manor house by a demon king, and you have to get through many different locks to find your way out. Unlike some of the bizarre locks we might find in many HOM games, these are broken by using a match 3 puzzle grid. You match up icon using the switch method. Matching up ice blue gems on the grid gives you powerups. The upgrades can be used on a small scale, or you can hold out and get one thousand gems to just solve the puzzle, but it will take about three puzzle grids to get that many, maybe more. You might find the lower cost powerups to be more efficient, depending on the theme of the puzzle. With each room you get out of, you get bonus gems to add to your stash, but then the puzzles change, and what worked for the last lock is completely different from the previous one.
This game was pretty average, and it had a background music track that is best used when it is turned off, so that droning elevator music won’t distract you from the puzzles. In my game, I shut off the music, and cranked some 80s alternative rock. Swing Out Sister might not be what the demon king had in mind for me to work with, but I got by fine with it.
There are many match 3 games out there, made by many casual game developers all over Europe for an international market. If you want a mediocre experience, give Cursed House 2 a try. There are better and worse puzzles to play, so enjoy your hunt.
I don't recommend this game.
