If you are a fan of the 7 Wonders match 3 game series, then you will love this new addiction to the franchise. We have all the builders from 7 Wonders: Magical Mystery Tour, but now we have even more mysterious town where ancient alien astronauts might have influenced the local peoples. Towns like Pumapunku in South America, and Giza, and several other sites that have been studied, and often show up on TV shows on The History Channel and Discovery. Don't pretend you don't find this all fascinating. Even back in the day, we were captivated by Chariot of the Gods, and all those artifacts that could have indicated that maybe, our ancient technology was far more advanced than we thought.
So, here we are, living in a time when we are still looking for the answers to ancient mysteries, where Hollywood tries to guess about origins with movies like Prometheus, but it is much more fun to find our way with great games like 7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover, and variations of it. As to the show, Ancient Aliens, the biggest mystery is... what is up with Giorgio A. Tsoukalos' hair?
I recommend this game!

This is the first in a series of hidden object puzzle games that feature two redheaded kids, Nelly and Tommy, and how they become professional treasure hunters. In Treasure Seekers: Visions of Gold we first meet Nelly, the older of the two kids, and we learn that she’s been having dreams about pirate ships and buried treasure. As Nelly is exploring around the house one day, in which we help her do, she finds a chest with a map on the top of it. She goes to the derelict house nearby to find her little brother, Tommy, and there they find more clues to the map and learn that their grandmother was a pirate. What a cool grandma! The first part of the game looks to be set in the 1920s, and we do know that LaFitte, the last of the great pirates was still pillaging as late as the 1840s, so the timeline is plausible. There are still pirates out there today, as we know from the recent news, but this deals with finding treasure from the Golden Age.
The gameplay is similar to Shaolin Mystery: Tale of the Jade Dragon Staff with the small puzzle that require you to seek out part of items, and put them together to make them work. This leads you to the next item in the room or to the next puzzle you have to solve. The other logic puzzles you encounter are geometric fill-ins, and seeking out small part of similar items, like 10 keys in one room or 20 bolts and such. Lots of visual logic here. I will be checking into the other Treasure Seeker games, and we will be treated to watching Nelly and Tommy grow up through these games, like we did with the young wizards and witches in the Harry Potter books and movies. The Treasure Seekers series looks to be very promising, and I will have viewed them all within the week. Take the challenge with Nelly and Tommy in Treasure Seekers: Visions of Gold this weekend, and become addicted to Nelly and Tommy adventures, too.
I recommend this game!

Well, it looks like PopCap redeemed themselves from that disastrous Game of Life with this one. Bejeweled is the Cadillac of match 3 games, and this model is the sharpest one yet. It featured four kinds of play, Classic, Zen, Quest, and Lightning. The Quest mode is by far the most interesting one, in which you must race against speedy glaciers, a perpetually building wall of gems, and other things that could hinder your progress, depending on the puzzle you choose. Classic is what we all know and love best, but the Stargate-style effect when swtiching puzzles just adds to the coolness.
I had not tried Zen mode, and Lightning features all kinds of tools and bonuses you can use right away to clear the board. This is the kind of game casual gamers can't seem to get enough of, and Bejeweled 3 is the kind of match 3 that keeps you up for all hours trying to beat it, not unlike The Heroes of Kalevala, but without the plotline and the irritating Louhi and her extremely annoying pet. This is pure fun for fun's sake, and you will not want to stop.
I recommend this game!

I was pretty pleased to see this release at first, since I had so much fun with the PopCap version of Monopoly, but this game was rather chaotic, and did not play as smoothly as I expected. It was not quite the same as having that huge board laid out with its noisy, rainbow-coloured spinner, and the multi-coloured non-legal tender money with the people on it with the cute names like G. I. Luvmoney and in the 1960 version my parents owned, Art Linkletter was on the $100,000 bill. Then again, the U.S. Mint was actually printing bills with those denominations back then. It was pretty cool to see them, even though I was only five at the time. (My mother worked at City National Bank in Columbus, Ohio then.)
So, back into the 2010s with this new Game of Life. You started out choosing college or workforce, but the college choices were limited, but you could still earn a decent annual wage if you did go. The college-based careers were traditional, lawyer, doctor, veterinarian, etc. The workforce were more typical of what we see, salesperson, mechanic, etc, although I do believe mechanics make far more money than the game offered. They sure charge us enough. I played the game with four computer opponents, and switched to quickplay. I guess I should have kept the regular speed on, because it got kind of confusing from there. I was used to the standard 1960s version, and this new one was just all over the place. When it comes to The Game of Life, I far prefer the retro version, and that's not so bad.
I don't recommend this game.

SushiChop - Free To Play is one of those silly kinds of game that is sort of cheesy, but once you get started, you really don't want stop. In this game you play as sushi chef, and you are cutting up different kinds of fish and shellfish to make nigiri. Along with this, you will also sometimes cut wasabi and ginger root along with the fish for bonus coins. Coins can earn you upgrades to get better knives. Between waves of fish being thrown up in front of you, you also get bonus rounds where you have to cut up a certain number of one kind of fish or shellfish.
This should seem simple, but there is one big nasty, stinky catch, literally, that keeps popping up. It is a polluted green fish, and just one slice of this disgusting thing can ruin your platter, your cutting record, and your game. Cut too many of these poisoned nasties, and it's game over. This is a nice diversion, and since it is a freeb, you should give it shot, but don't forget the other great sushi games that are not quite so silly like Asami's Sushi Shop. You might even want to steam up some rice and break out the mini tatami mat or the nigiri mold.
I recommend this game!

Myth People did a nice bit of a touch up on their Azkend series with this game, and treated us to a steampunk era adventure in this match 3 game, with a little hidden object mystery thrown in. We play this through the eyes of a scholarly Englishwoman, maybe a teacher, or a professor, so we see the story unfold through her eyes, and the gameplay is down as a match 3 chain.
Your chains feature icons that were popular in science studies from the period, trilobites, t-rex skulls, and other paleontological or archeological symbols. It plays not unlike Azkend, and there is still the image matching mini-game, which distracts from the story more than enhances it. Had this been a true HOM, it could have been a great contender with any of the tales from ERS studios. I am curious to see what our heroine will find, and will get back to her story, but with many great scary games to be had before Samhain comes, we might get back to her before Nikolai Tesla's birthday. If you are really into match 3 games, take her for a spin, you might enjoy it.
I recommend this game!

Lost in Night is put out by Rumbic Studio, and it was the first game of theirs that I had every played. While it was cute, and had a style that Rumbic can call their own, I did like the fact that as a Match 3 game, you could choose the style in which it was played. With match 3 games, there are typically 3 kind of ways you can collect icons. They are swap, group, and chain. Lost in Night started off with swap. As you played further along, you were given the option to choose group, like in the game, Qbeez. To choose chain will give you game play like in Magic Match.
With each level you completed, you also have the option to build a magical, nighttime village filled with fae-style housing and various support fields and buildings. This happened after every level, and could be somewhat distracting from the game itself. Also, to choose the other gaming-style options, you would have to click the trophies screen, else you not even know that you had the options to change your style of gameplay. A little hint here or there would help, Rumbic devs!
I've played many match 3 games lately, and somehow I keep finding myself going back to my old faves, Luxor Evolved and Heroes of Kalevala. Somehow, someone has to come out with something dynamite supreme to top those. I'll keep looking, but I have a feeeling I am not going to find it, and I definitely did not find it in Lost in Night.
I don't recommend this game.

Once again, we have been treated by Myth People to another great match 3 game, but I found Azkend to be to much like Heroes of Hellas. while the storyline was far different, as you are playing as an explorer searching for an artifact to cure your strange illness, the maze-like matching had you following little icons all over the hexagonal grid.
While I did not mind the grid game itself much, the mini-game where you have to match parts of the background picture to itself was a bit frustrating, as it really did not lend to the game much, and some parts of you background looked to similar to each other. This was very much a right-brain part of the game, and I was happy to get back to the left brain part of it when the grids came back up.
I did like the exotic setting of Tibet, and all the mountains, temples and high bridges. I also liked that I could earn new tools the further I went up in levels. While Azkend is no Heroes of Kalevala, it is a fun bit of a way to pass the time. The background music does not overpower, so you do not feel like you are playing a video game while dining in a Chinese restaurant, as it does with other adventure games set in Asia. It's a fun bit of diversion, plain and simple.
I recommend this game!

Take one spunky girl, an old wiseman, and some celestial dragons in trouble, and you get Dragon Portals. When Mila finds that she has been summoned to help the celestial dragons on their journey from earth back to the heavens, she gets the courage to lift them up, and gets us locked into this addictive match 3 game.
The dragons carry on them different orbs that need to be matched up, and the more matches we make, the higher they can fly. Mila's main objective is not to let them hit the ground. At first, this is not so difficult to do. One makes matches by clicking the orb on one dragon that might obstruct a 3-way match, or by choosing an orb above a dragon that might match with the orbs on the dragon flying below it. Mila can earn tools and trophies along the way that can help her, also.
Considering that this game was created by Myth People, a company that has coming into modern legend for creating amazing match 3 games, there is no mystery that once you get started on Dragon Portals you won't want to stop. With the wonderful Chinese culture back story and art, you'll want to help keep those dragons aloft for hours. The bonus you get from taking pictures of the dragons for some dragon science society is just gravy. When you do download Dragon Portals, you might want to do so on a weekend, because you won't want to stop once you get started.
I recommend this game!

Considering that this time management game came from Myth People, the developers of The Heroes of Kalevala, one of my very favourite match 3 games, I was a bit disappointed when it played more like The Great Chocolate Chase. We have a spunky redhead with a mysterious past, sort of like Evangeline Baumeister, but in a fantasy world setting. Miriel runs a bakery and food store that supplies baking supplies, breads, cakes, and other items they give the recipes for in the game. Considering that Myth People Games is based in Finland, it explians why I did not recognise the names for some of the ingredients in those lists.
Miriel hops, literally, around her store levitating items to carry them to the ovens or to the customers, and they ask for basic goods, sweet water, flour, apples, and other little things. There are various customers with cute personalities that have favourite items they prefer to order, and with each new upgrade you buy, you can sell new things, but keeping track of all those items can get frustrating down the line. While the game looks cute, the mechanics needed a smoother feel, and the cash should not disappear right before your eyes. Now if they has some little light fingered thief grab your gold before you could pick it up, that would make for a great twist, but I've yet to see this in a Myth People game.
The game has the potential to be more than it is, and there is a sequel, so we can hope to see some kind of improvements up the line. I should look into more games by this company. I just hope they can live up to the great fun I have had with the first game of theirs I have played, many times over.
I recommend this game!
