I try to play the whole game and bonus game before reviewing, but I was so disgusted by the cruelty to animals in the bonus game I couldn't finish it. I'm supposed to 'scare off" an animal instead I kill it in cold blood. Revolting.
You are not missing anything by skipping this game. I was so bored I used the hint feature to move along several times. The game ends abruptly, possibly the developers were bored too.
Same old same old morphs, collectibles, minigames.
Summary: waste of time.
I don't recommend this game.

This game is truly awful by today's standards. That is because this game was clearly developed at least 10 years ago and is now released and "hidden" under Bonfire Stories by adding a prescene. This game has no other relationship to the previous Bonfire Stories.
It's about as scary as a piece of dried gum on the sidewalk. The graphics and characters show the age of this game.
It has too many HOS, the games are unimaginative and too easy. There is no way to turn off the horrible voiceovers. There are no morphing objects anywhere.
I could go on and on, just read the other negative reviews. Shame on the developer for trying to regurgitate an old game and shame on BFG for releasing it.
Getting my money back.
I don't recommend this game.

Rarely do I dislike a game so much that I can't finish it, but this game is one of those.
Talk about false advertising! The beginning starts out with a creepy promise that is never fulfilled. The game rapidly turns into a nonsensical, cutesy "let's help a little girl with her chores" borefest. After a few of those I couldn't take any more.
The colors are so bright and crayon colored it's like a little children's cartoon.
Apparently the developers think that throwing all sorts of ridiculous, unrelated warped items into the artwork, making inanimate objects animated, and putting furniture on the ceiling makes the house scary or otherworldly. No, it's just uninteresting and annoying.
The HOS I played consisted of clicking on a spot until it turned into an item on a list. Double yawn.
Pretty easy to make a game when it doesn't have to make sense. On the other hand, pretty painful to play.
I don't recommend this game.

The premise of your friends pulled into a horror movie isn't bad, it's just that the developers either rushed this game out or didn't care to spend enough time to make it good.
I should have known how the game would be after it starts like this:
after my friends disappear into the VHS tape (VHS? so how old is this game?) I go about my life for TWO YEARS and only then get the idea to check the VCR, well, what do you know? The tape is still there. Guess I haven't watched any movies for two years and I have a whopping late fee at Blockbuster.
Then of course, I get sucked in and the fun begins.
Actually, there isn't much fun. The colors are too bright and cheery, the villians boring. Many plot aspects from other similar games are mixed in without reason. Mini games are unoriginal, HOS easy. Collectibles are the same as usual and morphs easy to find. Nothing is scary or creepy, it's like a horror show for 7 year olds.
The bonus game is so very very bad that I almost gave this game one star. I "banish" an evil werewolf by giving him a bone to chew. And that might be the most rational part of the nonsensical, boring and ridiculous "magic object bought by innocent that brings evil" plot of the bonus game. You are "working" with a character that just stands there like a moron taking up space, rather like James in the last several Haunted Hotels.
The only thing I really liked was the skeletal arm that ran around in the first chapter of the main game. I want one of those, it was so cute ! (but I'm guessing the devs meant it to be scary).
I don't recommend this game.

The first game in this series was pretty creepy and good, so I had hopes this one would continue in that vein.
This one is not in the least scary, macabre or creepy. It just plods along, it might be any HOPA.
For example, the creepiest thing through most of the game is finding (and keeping) human hair in the inventory.
The plot's reason for the villian's revenge isn't very convincing. The villian himself is much less than scary, he looks like an average guy with a few bandages around his head.
The game itself isn't well developed. In a deserted town, I have to find a key to open a derelict car, yet the car has a half open window. When the key breaks, I have to use a wire to lift the lock when I could have easily just reached in and unlocked it. I use a wedge to remove the top of a fire hydrant, then I need to use a hook to retrieve a wire clipper when I could have easily just grabbed it. You get the idea.
The mini games are the usual, the hidden object scenes average, and collectibles really easy to find.
The ending of the main game is predictably weak and boring. The bonus game is yet another pathetic attempt to include the fictitious Paranormal Files tv show with another predictible ending.
Don't bother with this one.
I don't recommend this game.

So I recently replayed Darkness Incarnate, an earlier Shadowplay which is an exceptional game, very creepy and interesting. This one severely disappoints. This one could be any game from any developer.
It isn't scary in the least. It borrows things from previous games. The plot is predictable and the pace is really slow. I always turn off voiceovers but I'm sure they would have been awful. I almost didn't make it through this boring game but I like to play the whole thing before I review it.
The bonus game was rushed, predictable, and slow paced.
I can't recommend it. Go play Darkness Incarnate or The Forsaken Island if you want a good Shadowplay game, but skip this one.
I don't recommend this game.

It might be a new series, but this is just an combination of previous games, and very sloppily done. Old plot, old games, boring, obvious collectibles like "collect coins to outfit my office", nothing new here.
The plot is the most sloppy part, as if two people wrote it and didn't consult with the other. Examples:
1. at the beginning you are asked to choose whether to play as male or female, I chose female but my character was obviously male. why bother to have the option?
2. the doctor lost her license for killing a patient but performs the autopsy on the victim? And later is described as a wonderful doctor who "saves lives daily"?
3. It starts as a whodunit with several possible suspects, but few characters are actually developed. Suspense is sadly lacking throughout the game.
4. One of the collectibles is photos of players. In the main game you start collecting pictures of characters from the bonus game, who have no role in the main game.
5. You are able to cure a serious, probably fatal injury, with herbal tea.
There are many other examples, esp with the villian, that conflict, but they would be plot spoilers. I'll just say they hurriedly tried to throw several stories in half way through which don't help matters. They should have stuck to 1 plot theme.
The bonus game is equally sloppy: suddenly one of the characters of the main game is credited with being the hero of the main game (she wasn't). She is married but her husband has to send her wedding ring to her "because he knew I'd need it soon". Inexplicably you continue to collect evidence for the main game yet the bonus game is a separate story.
To sum up: Sloppy, sloppy, Sloppy game.
I don't recommend this game.

This is truly a mediocre, slow and uninteresting game. Very disappointing after the last 2, which were good.
First of all the plot is LAME. It starts with the never before seen in a HOPA (sarcasm) lost artifact that grants immerse power. And once the bad guy gets it and is possessed by the evil spirit, what is his evil plan? Not world domination, not wealth and riches beyond belief, but..... Wait for it......... driving security gaurds in a suburban mall insane by animating mannequins. WOW.
And scads of police with powerful weapons are powerless against the mannequins, because they never considered ramming them with shopping carts like our hero does- instant destruction.
There is no scary, spooky element, or creepy paranormal element. Just a plodding and boring game.
The main game is slooooooowww paced and very short for a CE. The bonus game is a little more interesting than the main game, but not much.
The mini games are the same as in many other games, and there aren't as many as in a usual CE. You also get a few of those endless hidden object scenes as "bonus" prizes. Whoo hoo.
I liked this main character's snarky comments and outlook in the last 2 games, but even that is lacking in this game.
Hope the next one redeems the series. I will definitely try before I buy it , and glad I bought this one on a deal.
I don't recommend this game.

I don't know how anyone with any experience at these HOPA games can tolerate this one. The leading comments are so annoying, even on expert mode, and there is no way to turn them off (unlike most other games).
Example: "oh there are thorns. I need to protect my hands".
Another: (you see a mailbox with obvious areas for 2 missing flags) " I need to find 2 flags for this mailbox".
There is also no way to turn off the awful voiceovers without turning off the "sound" control. There should be a separate option to turn these off. (again, like most other games).
I like scary/horror games, and these Mystery of the Ancients games are prettty bland in that department.
I had forgotten why I didn't buy this series' games, but playing this demo made me remember fast.
I don't recommend this game.

Maybe I'm playing this game a few years too late, but there are much better games from the same year. This game has an interesting story, but the plot moves so slooooooooowwww that I could barely get through the game. The comments are insultingly leading, the games are unimaginative, and the HOS again have the insultingly leading comments. How on earth was this a CE? No collectibles, morphs, etc. I mainly played it because I love the Nightfall Mysteries series from the same dev, and am regretting it. Glad I bought it at a deep discount but even that was a waste of money.
I don't recommend this game.
