Finish the bonus game and you will understand my title.
My first Immortal Love game and my last. The plot is pretty boring and unimaginative, the characters are insipid, the games are the expected ones and not challenging, the collectibles are poorly hidden, the bonus game obviously thrown together in 10 min.
At least I got it on sale.
I don't recommend this game.

This is only loosely related to the previous Secret Order games. The first was a nicely done film noir sort of game. The second got a little silly with the time travel plot. This one runs away from it almost completely! It is a cutesy fantasy- fairy tale game complete with the cutesy little helper animal character. It seems to me instead of developing the plot they just added some magic character, power or other thing to make the game go on. It all makes a very jumbled and somewhat uninteresting game. I further found the game tedious and slow. I played it because I wanted to play the games in order but am really glad I got it on a half price sale or I would be asking for my money back. Hopefully the next one is much better and goes back to the roots of the series.
I don't recommend this game.

There are many things to love about this game. It is nice and creepy. There are nice extra touches in scenes, like a ball bouncing down the stairs, that the devs didn't have to add. There actually could have been more HOS, but the ones they have are really good. Interesting collectibles and not too easy to find. Minigames are decent. The game is a good length.
The reasons for a 4 star rating (instead of 5). There is annoying music in the cut scenes even though I turned music off. Many of the background sounds are repetitive and really annoying too.
The plot is really poorly developed: there are gaps in the progression, we are just supposed to go with it I guess and assume we know what they are talking about. My old friend James is thrown into the game for some reason not explained and really adds nothing. The bonus game is just okay and doesn't really tie in with the main game, with a even more disjointed plot.
I recommend this game!

Bought this in a bundle with the 3rd in series because I wanted to play them in order.
Pros: morphing objects in the HOS. good length. bonus game in a SE.
Cons: hard level is not very hard, has sparkles and leading messages. Turning off voiceovers does not turn them off, so had to play on mute at least half the game. Too many HOS and not enough minigames. Plot is somewhat interesting, not creepy enough, could have used some fine tuning.
Probably fun for beginners. Definitely would have felt cheated if I paid full price.
I recommend this game!

Generally I really like the New York Mysteries series. The games are a very decent length, and the Bonus game is a good length too. I like the graphics and the little extra touches they provide. The minigames and HOS are better than the average game, and I've played a lot of these games. The morphing objects are more difficult to find than in most games.
But...... there is no way to turn off voiceovers, and these are particularly bad, I had to play half the game on mute just to avoid them. There are also the obvious "helpful messages" even on hard mode- " I need to cut this, I need to find a key", etc, no,really?
I will keep playing this series, but it will not get top marks until they offer all the options other games do.
I recommend this game!

This series just keeps getting better. This is much more creepy than the first few games which is a huge plus for me. The plot is really good and different. Really nice macabre artwork and detail. Other developers could learn from the value that Whispered Secrets gives you for your money: The original game is a decent length, the bonus game is not just a quick afterthought, and they add a hidden chapter to boot. The minigames are fun and somewhat challenging. When you turn off music and voiceovers, they are off for the whole game including cutscenes.
Highly recommend this game

This game is not the best Dark Tales by far. Some of the minigames are tedious and boring, "find the mark, measure it" over and over. Even playing on the hardest mode it wasn't very difficult. The plot is sketchy, seems thrown together, and the end hurried. The bonus game is a decent length, but the extra game you win for collecting all the cards is completely boring and lacking fun.
One thing I really dislike about this developer: even though I always turn off voiceovers, I have to play half the game on mute because it doesn't turn off voiceovers in cutscenes and other scenes. The voiceovers are so bad I couldn't finish the game if I left them on.
Also, how does this developer always seem to fail at making creepy scary games? They should play a Ravenhearst game to learn what creepy really is.
The best thing about this game was the cute little bump-nosed rat on the side. Too bad he wasn't my helper in the game.
I'm on the fence about recommending this. Maybe if you are fan of the series and get it on sale, otherwise no.
I don't recommend this game.

This game would be a 5 star rating for the uniqueness of it, they managed to change the expected minigames to something new. The game is a decent length, including the bonus game. There are many extra items to find. There is a map that allows you to fast travel, I missed that in the last game. There is an expert level that takes away annoying hints and sparkles. The HOS are really good, I played the Match 3 a few times to see how it was ( and I liked it even though I'm not a big Match 3 fan) , but all the items are attainable without it.The background art is good, nice authentic art deco theme. The plot has some holes, but they are tolerable.
However, the absolutely awful cutscenes reduced my rating. Earth to developers: the cheesy acting in cutscenes is unnecessary and laughably bad. Thankfully I was able to turn off the voiceovers or I probably couldn't have finished the game.
I recommend this game, turn off the voiceovers and skip the cutscenes.
I recommend this game!

Frankly, this game is terrible. The first 2 House of 1000 Door games were really really good, and all have been worth playing until this one. I'm really glad I read the reviews before buying it. This one has a terrible and far fetched (even for these games) plot. The special talent of the heroine involves tracing figures, a minigame I particularly dislike, it is boring and has no creativity. I lasted about 20 min into the demo before I couldn't take anymore.
I don't recommend this game.

I love the MCF Ravenhearst games, but I expected a little more from this game. It seemed rushed, like they didn't take time to develop the plot, especially in the bonus game. It was a little short for a CE, felt like I was playing a SE.
Familiar scenes from past games were used but not to the extent they should have been.
A few expected characters were absent, unfortunately. The new characters fell far short. This game just didn't have that creepy, macabre Ravenhearst feel. I even missed the Ravenhearst theme music, it also would have been nice to hear the cable car music.
I did like the return of the typewriter keys in the HOS and the typical multistep Ravenhearst puzzles.
I felt cheated in the morphing/collectible items realm, again it made the game seem not well developed.
The absence of a casebook is inexplicable. It was such a great part to the "Escape from Ravenhearst" game that I can't believe they didn't continue it here.
Lastly, I understand these games are made by real people with real lives, but what we players enjoy about the games is the fantasy scenario created by the game. These games are not the place for the developers to put self congratulatory messages and "behind the scenes" content.
I'm not sorry that I bought this game, but somewhat disappointed after finishing it.
Hopefully the next Ravenhearst game will be more true to the past games.
I recommend this game!
