This is a really good RPG, too bad BFG doesn't have sequels 2 and 3, because once you play this you will want to play the rest, and will have to buy them from another site (hint hint BFG).
You get 3 characters per party, but can change them whenever and everyone levels up together. You do find some items but they are automatically equipped to the relevant party member. You can buy pets along the way who help you in battle. You find and buy "runes" which give special abilities in battle when equipped, and these you can equip to any party member. The game is a great length with lots of quests. What makes this a great RPG are the puzzles scattered throughout the game, which you must solve to proceed. They are creative, different, and fun, and sometimes take a little thought, but if you apply logic you shouldn't have much trouble. There are 3 modes, I played on hard, and I don't know if the puzzles change with the difficulty mode, but I was able to figure all of them out with a little trial and error.
HIghly recommend this game!

It's too bad they didn't put more of the interactive puzzles in this game, that would have made it one of the best, and also compensated for some weaknesses:
1. there are few HOS
2. the puzzles are mostly those you've played before
3. the plot of this series is getting more and more ridiculous
4. the voiceovers are pathetically awful and there is no way to turn them off (note to developers- so I played with my mute on rather than suffer)
5. Beavis' Cornholio is more believable and more frightening than this Shaman villain.
The positives are the interactive game scenes, the need to collect secret objects throughout the game, an expert mode that truly has no sparkles or hints, and the game is a decent length. The Bonus game is boring, with some HOS and puzzles than you played in the main game.
It might deserve a 3.5, but I gave it a 3 for the annoyance factor, but I will still recommend it. Glad I bought it on sale.
I recommend this game!

This RPG game is basically battles strung together by some conversation. No side quests, very few "treasures" to find. The characters' stories don't get much more developed than in the first. You have a little more choice of party, but that's about the only improvement. There still is no Quest log. There still is no map, you have to guess where to go most of the time. If you buy it, wait for a sale.
I recommend this game!

The good thing about this game is that it is a decent length, well worth the money. The story line is interesting and a little different.
The not so good things are that there are no Quest log or map, I would think beginning RPG gamers will have a tough time with this.
You also don't get to pick your party, instead for each quest it is chosen for you. Spells are partly earned with leveling, and partly by assigning "spell crests" to a character. Since characters change per quest, you may not have access to a certain spell all the time.
There are also a few frustrating factors, like a tower with multiple levels that is just tedious (hint check the forum for a way to bypass this) and repetitious battles.
Summary, not as good as Aveyond, but I will buy and play the second in the series.
I recommend this game!

This is a prequel to Ella's hope, and came out after I think. On the whole Ella's Hope is the better game. This is a typical Eridani RPG. It is lots of fun, many side quests, different scenes, etc.
But... you rarely get a chance to select your own party, and several times you are a party of only 2 or 3. Since you don't get to choose your party most of the time, you might have equipped a special something and now its gone until you get the player back.
Like Ella's Hope, anyone who has played an RPG before can play this on HARD mode without a problem. Also similarly, you have to hunt out side quests and can easily miss them or miss the chance to fulfill them. At least this game has a journal listing them.
2 more issues I have with Eridani games:
the spells are limited and you don't have a choice, you just get more slowly as you level up.
The male characters are wimpy and effeminate, I can't imagine that most guys would want to play these games, but maybe that was the intent.

This RPG is based around students at a war and magic school, and has an interesting plot. The title is misleading, the game is 85% witch. You have several party members to choose from, but only your active party members level up so you need to stick with the same 4 if you want party members with strength. Every one has some magic ability, and you gain spells as you level up.
The witch gets an animal familiar, you can pick from several choices. This character finds you things and can be a great asset in battles. However there are no objects available to use in battle, it is all spells or fighting ability.
What is frustrating about this game is that you must search very carefully for side quests. If you miss the moment to trigger one, the opportunity is gone for the rest of the game. Same with fulfilling the side quest, you can miss the chance forever easily. My advice is to not go to sleep ( in the game) until you have searched all available areas (even if you have already done so). Also seek out all battles regardless of the characters' advice.
Still, a classic RPG in the manner of Aveyond and hours of fun.
I recommend this game!

As someone who plays a lot of RPGs, I was really disappointed in this one. Perhaps because it is a few years old, but the Aveyonds from the same time are much better than this.
The things I dislike that make this a less than great RPG:
1. The battle scenes have huge caricatures of the players taking up half the screen, sometimes obstructing your view of the enemy. why do I need this?
2. you can't just explore as you will, your character will tell you: this isn't the way I need to go. cuts out a lot of the fun.
3. most of this game is played with 2 characters, you don't interact with others until the game is at least half over.
4. there are way too many battles, even if you set your mode for the least battles. you can hardly explore without getting slammed with the same battle after battle after battle. And you can't avoid them, they are invisible until you hit them.
5. There are still several technical glitches in this game that detract from the fun, even years after the release.
6. There is not a good walkthrough available, I at least like to see a map (without markings of impt areas) so I can plan where to go. The BFG as well as other well known sites have awful walkthroughs: "keep going until you find x". Really? Could this be because the developer sells a guide on their site?
Nope, at least the first of these is not for me, and not an incentive to buy the next.
I don't recommend this game.

Even though I love the Aveyond series, this is my least favorite. I had explored everywhere, done all the quests, and was nowhere near the level I needed to be for the final battle. This is the only Aveyond game where I sought out the goody caves to level up, because I just couldn't bear having to fight the same creatures over and over to level up.
The characters are the least interesting of all the stories (other than the fantastic militant squirrels appearance) and you can't really experiment with characters, as you need to play the same 4 to level up, as mentioned above.
Still, it's Aveyond quality, just not as good as the first or the "Mel" series.
I recommend this game!

This a classic RPG, a few years old, but still a lot of fun! Because it's a few years old it doesn't have all the perks the later Aveyond games do. like all party members advancing whether they are active or not.
Lots of weapons, magic, quests, etc as any decent RPG game should have. The Aveyond series is one of the best, you don't need to play this one to play the Lord of Twilight series but it does give you some fun background.
I recommend this game!

A must for RPG fans, the first of four (so far). All the things you love about RPG, weapons, quests, items, magic, etc. So much to do, you need to explore and reexplore to do everything! The characters are interesting and imperfect, esp Mel. A game you can play again and again, with different choices. There are 3 levels of play, easy/normal/hard. There are also well hidden "goodie caves" that basically give you the best equipment,spells,etc- however to me that ruins the fun of advancing level by level. Still it's an interesting touch for those who like that sort of thing or are stuck in a battle.
Definitely recommend starting with this one and playing in order the "named" Aveyond games (Lord of Twilight, Gates of Night, Lost Orb, Darkthrop Prophecy). Aveyond 1 and 2 do not need to be played in order to play this, but they are good RPGs also
I recommend this game!
