The best thing this game has going for it is that the plot is a little different than usual. Although after playing the Aveyond RPGs the idea of Hercules is forever changed!
It is full of HOS scenes, each with a smaller "shadow hidden object scene" in it, I'm not too fond of those. Minigames are predictable. Sometimes you have to put 2 things together to create an object, it's very obvious. There is a map for moving around, and at least on hardest mode active areas aren't marked, which gives a little fun to this game. The collectibles are not hidden at all, and add nothing to the game. The bonus scene should have been part of the main game, and a new bonus scene added. Even on the hardest mode, the black box script and character's dialogue is so leading it makes the game boring. For instance "the chest is locked but you should be able to pop it open with a long stick" and of course there is a stick just outside the area. I struggled to finish the game just to write an honest review. Thankfully you can turn off the voiceovers, I don't think I could have lasted the whole game if I couldn't. At least there are no human "actors", it's all graphics. I'm pretty sure you can get just as much "fun" from the SE, and I wouldn't pay full price for that either.
This game nicely follows the plot of the first. It is a good length for a CE, as is the bonus game. There are lots of HOS and minigames. As always, turned off the music and voiceovers, so no comment on those. The collectibles were disappointing and not as fun to find as in the first game: there is one of each in every scene, and fairly obvious. Played on the hardest mode, yet still those annoying black box comments, you have to not read them to make the game challenging. Nice map that allows you to jump around. On hardest mode they don't indicate places that have something to do, which is an improvement on the first game. Graphics are well done, I really like the different idols, but the cutscenes were really annoying, shot after boring shot of a volcano erupting. Bought it on sale, I always like to get a deal on CEs, but it's probably worth the game club full CE price.
Maybe I'm spoiled by games like Fairway Solitaire, but this game needed a lot more, even for an SE. Very simple solitaire game, the same over and over, gets boring fast. The powerups aren't that creative, and you can only buy 3 powerups at a time. You can't buy anything during the round either. Graphics are very simple, and there are little simple tasks to do at the end of each level, it added nothing to the game for me. And the topless girl at the end scene was a really tasteless addition. Maybe worth a Daily Deal purchase, but nothing else.
I don't recommend this game.

Nightmares from the Deep: The Siren's Call Collector's Edition
Face off against Davy Jones and his nightmares from the deep!
Review based on playing hardest mode: This game has good HOS, interesting puzzles (but not very hard). Collectibles rank 5 stars as there are different types and they aren't just there for the taking....... What made me rank this a 4 (instead of 5) was the black box comments. Even on the hardest mode: you click on a barrel, and the black box comment says "I need a hammer and a chisel to open this". Really? Let me find that out for myself! I had to not read the black box comments to make this game even somewhat challenging. Otherwise, it is good that the HOS aren't marked in any way (hardest mode) and you do have to decide where to go next. The game is a length well worth the CE price. The bonus scene is mainly setting up the sequel, you don't need it to enjoy the main game. I turned off the voiceovers and music from the beginning, can't comment on those. I hate voiceovers, they are either annoying overdone or ridiculously bad, so glad for that feature.
Generally I like the Midnight Mystery series, the HOS are good, the puzzles plentiful, you can turn off voiceovers and music, the games are a decent length for a CE. It's the conspiracy theory, common in all of them, that is beginning to wear on me. The plot of this game is pretty sketchy and not well developed. I'm also tired of the blue ghosts with the blank eyes. I might have liked this game better if I hadn't just finished the new Enigmatis- Mists of Ravenhood- which is spectacular. I gave this game 4 stars , but it's really a 3.5 for me.
This game has it all: HOS,minigames, collectibles, a different type of "morphing" object to find, a multifaceted plot with so much to do. It's nicely creepy, reminds of the Ravenhearst MCF games in that respect. Graphics are macabre at times, just loved them! 3 modes: played on the hardest. The black box comments also change with the difficulty level, which is a nice touch. There is a map for moving around, voiceovers that can be turned off (always a huge plus for me). Got it on sale, but would have happily paid full price for this CE. Highly recommend for those who love creepy games, but not for children.
Find the festivalgoer abducted by the gargoyles of Notre Dame and uncover the cathedral’s dark past in this reimagining of the Victor Hugo’s classic tale.
.... the characters speak in cheesy French accents: the voiceovers are truly awful, thankfully you can turn them off. For example, You have a cute little female gargoyle as your helper who sounds like Gilbert Godfrey. Aside from that, this is a fun game. The graphics of Notre Dame are beautiful. The HOS are good but could have used some more. The minigames are mostly versions of the same old games and again could have used more. The adventure is fun to follow, and I liked how you find a item but don't use it immediately, maybe not until much later in the game. I did think it was strange that there were no collectibles. The bonus scene is short and not necessary to enjoy the regular game.
An interesting twist on Hansel and Gretel, even though they are not the characters you play in the game but the plot was weak at times and the reason for the villian's actions was pretty weak. Graphics are definitely a 5, a lot like Drawn and the people are even a little creepy. Great that you can turn off the voiceovers, with the inane rhymes I don't think I could have handled them spoken. Also turned off the music so can't comment on that. Played on "insane" mode which is pretty easy, and the game is a little slow paced for me. The black box comments and tasks are much too leading, even on the hardest mode. Game is a decent length, but the bonus game is pretty short.
Played on hardcore mode: way too easy, obvious black box hints. HOS pretty good, minigames few and far between and easy. A good amount of gameplay for a SE, and nicely creepy graphics at times. Had to play the whole game on mute due to the awful, montone voiceovers (no way to turn them off) and the dreadfully annoying sounds, like a screech/wail for each object found in HOS, and something that sounded like indigestion as background noise, I think it was supposed to be scary. Worth playing if you get it on sale.
I love Mystery Tracker games, esp that little dog Elf. However, this game does not deserve 5 stars for several reasons:
1. 4 modes of difficulty, yet still those black box hints even on the hardest. 2. The minigames were ridiculously easy, even on the hardest mode. Other opportunities for minigames were completely missed: in one you clean off a mess and there is the code you need to enter, no game, no challenge to find it. 3. The human "actors" were AWFUL and added nothing to the game, why were they included?
Good Stuff: Elf, the pets, the ability to buy things for Elf,the hidden object scenes, the graphics (other than the human actors), the plot, the abilities of the detective you play, the length of the game.
