I am really not much into fairy fantasy games and cute little helpers, but I happen to be a great fan of pocket dragons! And the raccoon isn't wearing clothes -- yay!
This seems to be a pretty simple game, both in the puzzles and HOS, and in game play. In this one, the scenery is so gorgeous, even in the HOS, just looking around without having to tax your brain too much could be a little like a vacation, though at one point during the demo, I started to get somewhat bored. I finished the demo just as the evil Cornelius appeared, but it's still unknown what the story may bring to raise the tension. Every story needs some kind of dramatic structure. So far, the action is like paddling a canoe down a quiet stream and picking up a few things along the way.
My final verdict is, this game appears to be the best of several recent SE offerings. I'll get it with a coupon.
AFTER PLAYING GAME:
Huh. Just as I feared. This game was soo boooring. No drama. No tension. Just back and forth and seek and find and place. My final final verdict: Tiddly Winks would be more engaging.

At first I thought, "Oh, yea! At last a good SE!" But sadly, the demo was nothing special, and I was soon bored by the too easy HOS and having to solve (or skip) a puzzle at every turn.
I do appreciate that the developers have included a variety of custom settings, including the ability to reduce the hint and skip times, and also the ability to increase them. (Why anyone would want to do the latter, I can't imagine.)
This game has live actors, and the voice-overs are excellent. There is an interactive map, and some of the hints are transporting. The graphics are well done, but I didn't think as good as those of Hope Diamond.
I really enjoyed Hope Diamond, but this one fell short of expectation.
I recommend this game!

I stopped the demo after 7 minutes.
Extremely slow opening with a gypsy or witch reading your tarot cards and no apparent way to get her to go to the next card.
The cursor is huge and clunky.
I couldn't find a map. The little piece marked with an M actually takes you to the main title page. M for Main, I guess.
The hint is a dragon head, but you must click on the exact dragon part marked with an H.
Once you are inside the house, or witch lodge, you are confronted with an extremely cluttered cabinet and elaborately decorated room. The huge, clunky cursor makes it frustrating to find the way to go or what to click on as it doesn't change shape, but a small arrow appears inside of it. That is the only way you know you are hovering over the right pixel. Otherwise, you click and click to no effect.
I was thinking if the whole game was going to be more of the same slow, clunkiness I'd probably not want to waste any more time on it.
And yes... I've used the word clunky three times in this review. That was my impression of it.
My rating is "Clunky."
I don't recommend this game.

In spite of not being too impressed at the beginning, it didn't take long before I was totally immersed in it and ended up liking it a lot!
I think any translation errors were fixed with the second edition, which also removed the cursing that some people complained about. There are a couple of continuity issues (having to put out a fire with water when a fire extinguisher is available but can't be picked up), but don't let these kinds of inconsequential issues spoil the game for you. Even though it's in an earlier graphic style, I believe actually that adds to its charm.
This is a unique, fun-to-play game. I hope to see more from this developer.
I recommend this game!

After this, I'll surely have nightmares of flowers, angels, sparkly jewels, twinkly music, and botanists who look like teen idols -- er, I mean teenaged princes -- instead of scientists with advanced university degrees..
But maybe you like that kind of thing. Then you'll love the colorful graphics and fantasy art. As for me, it's a pass.

Reflections of Monotony

I played over three days and had gotten fairly into the third portal on the third day before throwing in the towel from the absolute monotony of this game. Every portal has exactly the same solutions to its own particular obstacles, just in a different setting. (The obstacles aren't all that different either.) And while you might think that the story's tension should escalate with each successive portal, it's all just the same tedious trekking back and forth. To go along with the monotony, in the third portal the music is so new-age mellow and boring, it nearly put me to sleep.
I don't recommend this game.

Based on playing 30 minutes of the demo, I found this game to be boring and stupid in spite of all the supposedly exciting (?) action and disaster happening right at the beginning.
There's too much dialogue, too many cut scenes, too many puzzles lacking sufficient instructions. Plus, in only 30 minutes, I practically wore out the hint button.
I could hardly quit fast enough.

This game is the perfect example of formulaic plot, sometimes you can get away with it if everything else is strong or excellent or at least different. Frankly the story, plot etc was really bad IMO.
The hints were of a different sort, showing a picture of a scene and telling you "it's time to take care of this problem." Well, fine, if you can remember where "this problem" is. There's a lot of trekking back and forth and the hints, weak as they are, weren't much help.
The artwork has a filmy or foggy appearance which I didn't like at all.
I don't recommend this game.

I thought this was an excellent game, with all the issues I didn't like in the first installment much improved, including graphics that were not as grainy. The music in this one was a little distracting in one place when the tune cuts off suddenly and then starts over.
Normally, I don't like little helper creatures, but the imp in the one is awesome. Whoever the artist who created him was, he or she definitely has a little boy. You'll see what I mean if you try the demo! He's interactive as well. If you touch his hair with your pointer, he'll look at you and scratch his head as if to say, "Stop it!" And he's a great little climber, too. I would love to have him in a little stuffed version sitting on my desk! (hint hint!)
I think EF is becoming one of our better developers. I highly recommend this game!
