Sorry. I stopped the demo within 10 minutes. I was totally put off.
Only two choices of difficulty, easy and hard. No ability to customize. Can't skip the puzzles. Yet another talking helper animal, and a sarcastic one at that. The inventory is a large box instead of a bar and no way to lock it open.
I don't give a hoot about achievements and collectables. I want to get hints and skip puzzles within a reasonable amount of time. I don't like to be made seasick by a bouncing inventory. If helpful creatures can be useful, such as lighting fires or getting things out of tiny openings or high tree tops, and keep their mouths shut, okay. But if all they're going to do is stand around and make sarcastic remarks, just no.

This may have been runner up for the best game in 2008, but this is 2014, and players are much more sophisticated now than then. Thankfully, most games are as well. I gave it a shot... played through one room and had to use the object finder for nearly everything, because most of the objects are nearly invisible. But speaking of an object finder... really? That might be cool if you're six and playing "Easter Egg Hunt."
I don't recommend this game.

I don't know what to say. I really wanted to like this game, but I was bored long before the 90 minute demo was up, and frustrated. It starts out okay, but by the time you get inside the hotel, things start going downhill fast... doing and finding things without understanding what or why, and in some cases, comments from the characters about things you haven't come across yet. Example: "I hope this won't be like the flying knives."
There were a couple of new twists on the same old puzzles, but nothing to get excited about, except that the skip button refills quickly enough that you don't have to sit and tap your fingers on the desk waiting for it.
The HOS are the same old same old, and as usual with this dev, there are several mistranslations in the lists.
Sadly, not a buy for me.

BASED ON FINISHING THE DEMO (45 minutes out of 90)
Everything here is standard and same-old-same-old.
There is a map, which is transportable, and hints are directional arrows instead of the dreaded "nothing to do here," so kudos to the devs for that, at least.
There are voice-overs, but if you don't want to wait for the speakers to finish, you can read the text and continue.
Even with the customizable hint and skip times, you still have to wait a full 60 seconds for the refills.
There is a gimmick with a gypsy fortune teller -- take her the Tarot cards you find, and she'll interpret them for you. This might have been a fun addition to the game if her interpretations gave any real insight into the game, but they don't.
I don't get excited about finding collectibles. If you could get a partial refund on the price of the game for finding all of them, then I might muster more interest in the search!
And wouldn't it be nice to have HOS where you were looking for something besides canes, lanterns, anchors, hooks, cigars, fans, leaves, bows, arrows, rulers, mugs, tea kettles, brooms, pistols, crawfish, balls and dice? I've decided developers have lists of easy-to-hide items that they share with each other.
I am tempted to buy this game with the sale that's going on. It isn't a great game, and like JustTheFacts said, I'm not dancing a jig over it, but it's been a long dry spell between SEs that weren't awful. This one isn't awful.
I recommend this game!

Storyline
Poor

Ah, yes, once again we have the dreaded "I should look someplace else" hint system and no map.
I did need to check the walk-through once which I haven't had to do in ages, and several times in the HOS I did use two or three hints to find the hard-to-spot objects, or because I was starting to feel bogged down, frustrated, and anxious to move on.
Puzzles could be skipped fairly quickly. There were some potions and other things to put together -- not my favorite thing to do. It seemed like most of the game was looking for the stuff you needed to make other stuff! I think at least once you make a potion to add to yet another potion.
This seemed like a very long game. I played it straight through, but toward the end I was beginning to wonder when it would finally be over. The ending was quite abrupt. Oddly, as a result of the sudden ending, I couldn't quite remember why the princess had begun the adventure. Oh, right... to rescue her favorite animals. It would have been nice to show her bringing them back to her realm and getting them settled again into their little homes. Instead, the animals had become mere devices for use in her quest to destroy the minotaur and foil the evil witch's plot.
Good but not great, and not one of this dev's better games.
I recommend this game!

NOTHING NEW

This isn't a bad game, but it isn't a great one either. There are no new ideas here. The story line, every problem, every solution, every mini-game and HOS item have all been done a gazillion times before. And again, we have the same old problem of bad translation in the HOS.
You have a flashlight that works well especially in the HOGs, but why should a flashlight even be necessary? Still, I thought it was a good addition that would be helpful in other games. I've always thought a tool kit, a working flashlight and a loaded firearm would be obvious things for a detective to bring along on an investigation!
I'm sorry to say, even as a DD or COTW, this wouldn't be a buy for me, but I think some fishies new to the pond might like it.
I recommend this game!

Isn't it fun to wander around in two different worlds needing a part for some contraption, but first you have to play several HOS and mini-games that will help you find something to use on something else to put together another thing that you need in order to open a drawer/ box/ cupboard to get the very part you need to finish putting together said contraption? And somehow your character knew all along exactly where the thing was and where to go and what to do so that after 57 minutes of wandering around doing stuff, she'd find what she needed to rescue the poor family gardener?
NOT REALLY!! Especially if the process is so convoluted and weird that you're thankful for the option to shorten the hint refill time, because you have no idea where to go or what to do next, and the map is no help at all?
I thought the first two in this series were fun, but this one's a real disappointment. Looks like I'll have to find another game to spend my credit on.
I don't recommend this game.

I'm not blown away. It's a bit of a stretch to incorporate supernatural events with the mafia, so cooperating with a mysterious brotherhood is not at all what I expected from the game.
So far, all of the HOS have been of the silhouette-matching variety, and each item you find works to uncover another item. As I've complained many times before, I am sure we all graduated from shape matching at least by the time we were out of third grade and are now able to decipher strings of Roman alphabet letters, i.e., WORDS!!!
Unfortunately, in this game, it is not so easy to decipher the instructions for playing the mini games.
The best thing about this game is the option to shorten hint and skip times --- not to zero, but any amount of shortening is better than none at all. One of these days, some developer is going to make me very happy by designing a decent hidden object/ adventure game with no mini-games at all!!
I'm giving it two stars, because it wasn't horrible.
I don't recommend this game.
