The SE portion of the game took me 3 hours 55 min. (according to my phone's stopwatch) + I play at an average rate in custom mode.
I like the premise of this series; supernatural types of antiques. It reminds me of the series Ominous Objects. This game has several haunted objects that you must deactivate with a special inventory item called The Keeper’s Device. All of the mini-games associated with it are simple, but are not repeated. Too bad there isn’t a place to save & re-read the articles, brochures and picked up notes, because Elefun does this best of all the developers here, in my opinion. Those little reactive items you see in the demo (objects you touch in a scene that move or change), stop at the demo and sadly aren’t seen anymore past chapter 2.I actually notice and appreciate little details like this when they are in a game.
Clear graphics are super important to me. In its windowed state, it’s set up for a 15” computer, so I did notice the graphics degraded a bit on a large monitor. Some kind of filter is used in much of the game, especially in the bonus play that “greys/washes” out the scene. I wasn't a fan of that filter at all. Unfortunately, the scenes don’t have much depth because of that and the entire game is played at night, tending to give it an almost blah feeling. I noticed the graphics in Chapter 6 were even worse. They were the more hand drawn type, not crisp & without depth.
Also, I really wish they wouldn’t change the mouse icon into a hand as you mouse over the collectibles. They are way too easy to locate. At least the morphs ARE in the main scenes and not the HOS so that was a definite plus.
MUSIC- The music is beautifully done. Several tracks are haunting, with violins. I was impressed enough that I noticed Alexey Archipov is responsible for the music (and if he ever sees this…., you should be SO proud of yourself!) They are tracks you actually want the CE content for.
FUNNY HAPPENINGS: In Chapter 3 the TV in the living room tells me to get out, or get lost and as I progress into the kitchen the door freezes over and a note appears in the misted glass “you’ll stay”. So I got a chuckle out of that. Also, in chapter 6 there is a large dog blocking the entrance to the front door in the location called “yard”. He looks and moves so strangely, I swear he has some type of addiction. He has the strangest teeth. My character is so disarmed by his appearance, I guess, that she actually steals a dinosaur bone from the nearby museum and feeds it to this dog!
MG & HOS- The mini games throughout this game are really good. I took a little more time with this game because I actually wanted to complete them. They are more the game related type then dexterity logic. You can play an alternative “matching” game instead of the MG, but it’s actually Mahjong. There are not as many HOS in this game as mini games but they are varied. However, I feel the HOS are much too easy in the games coming out in this day and age, and I preferred when the objects were more hidden. Chap. 3 also has a great HOS in the vault where some of the items magnify as you pick them up for closer inspection. I would say this is my favorite chapter and has a few very pretty outdoor locations.
Instead of a journal/diary, there is only a task list so there is no way to review the story. I personally, don't use the task list, ever, especially if I have a strategy guide. The second you read a note in the game (for the most part) it disappears; so be sure to finish reading them before closing the secondary window.
If you are interested what the bonus play and bonus content is, for this title, I’ve done a more involved review under the CE version of this game.
I bought this game on its first day out and I’m glad I bought the CE. The bonus content was fun, you are actually rewarded for collecting the collections and the 3 screensavers that came with this CE title were great. Elefun gives them to you up front, so you can play the bonus content AS you are playing the game, and that is SUCH a huge decision maker for me whether or not to buy the CE version of any game.
IF YOU LIKED THIS GAME, TRY THESE:
The Ominous Objects series is similar.
Thank you BFG, and I adore you Elefun!
I recommend this game!

BASED ON COMPLETED DEMO
I'm starting to sound like a broken record that I prefer the older games in these series. It seems I'm not as antsy to buy the newer CE's these days for a few reasons- but due to storylines, mostly. I’ve listed some of my favorite storylines below- maybe it could help the dev.
I wasn't even going to download this one due to the fact I disliked the last one so much and I'm done to death with black fantasy monsters that look like out of place cartoons in a scene. I bought and finished #1 The Perfect Show (though it’s lacking a map), and #2 Hide & Seek and highly recommend the CE’s to both of those instead of this one.
What actually made me try this title, was reading the hilarious review by Granny_Gruff. I was just laughing so hard + laughed AGAIN while playing the demo; especially when my character decides to scale a 2 story wall TWICE with a messenger bag belt instead of catching the cab.
There are several things I didn't like, mostly the logistics- but the storyline is out there too. I don't like how MHG split screens the comic book style cut scenes. They started doing it in the series Shadowplay #1. I also disliked the music in this title. The first two ROP actually have memorable tracks that I'm so glad I have the CE's to.
The actual game play in this game did keep me going to the end of the demo- I liked the HOS & MG. I LOVED the voice actors; especially grandpa. The whole beginning of the game was really too dark imo. By the time you reach Grampa's cottage it gets better. I especially liked Chapter 3 and the beautiful waterfall scene. It took me 1hr 4min to finish this demo.
I am a super fan of the horror genre but the cartoon- like fantasy monsters are just done to death and detract from a game that is supposed to feel spookier. I wouldn't consider the ROP series fantasy or horror genre either, when the series started, but somewhere in the middle. Not too dark, not too bright...with mystery.
The best storylines I've played here at BFG are, that I wouldn’t mind seeing repeated with maps & portal hint systems: I truly hope this helps the DEV re: story ideas.
1. The Reincarnation Series- where you are reincarnated into different lives over separate chapter storylines + you fix those lifetimes.
2. Paranormal Pursuit: The gifted one/ You play as a little boy with telekinetic powers.
3. Mysteries of the Mind: Coma- You’re in a coma and must right wrongs in different storylines though chapters.
4. Redemption Cemetery # 1: The Raven. You are in a cemetery and go through a different storyline portal, per chapter, to reverse the outcome as to why someone is in the cemetery.
5. Time Mysteries, you get to time travel through different storyline chapters while visiting several places and time (not to mention the change of “time of day” during a game).
6. Maze: Subject 360 is probably my favorite in the horror genre. PERFECTLY DONE.
I’m sure there some people that will like this game since we all have different opinions but I 100% agree with another veteran reviewer that mentions the red eyed demon or smoke monsters have to go. I do notice some games pick up after the demo. So I highly suggest you demo this game before buying it-- however the CE content is really lacking here too.
This game will be a no buy for me on both fronts.

The reviews listed below 3 stars have already summed it up perfectly, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents.
I love EAP, but that fantasy monster women with the space suit and red eyes was so off base for EAP. I am trying to figure out why she was in a mystery series and not a fantasy title.
When I first entered the game, it felt like most of the newer Redemption Cemeteries because it's raining over the dull, dark, drab scene. It's something I don't like in the RC series and even less here. I just can't stand the rain over a scene & you can't turn on/off the special effects. The characters moved so strangely and spoke slowly. This game was just mess.
I really don't like the graphics either. I know this team has it in them, because check out the 2012 game called
Dark Alleys Penumbra Motel. The graphics were the best I've seen from this dev. & they even used live actors. I wonder why they ditched a great thing if its in their toolbox.
I really dislike the "ta daaaa" flourish of the harp sound effect whenever you pick something up. So many their games have it and its just annoying. This game is confirmation this dev. should start fresh across the board imo.
I don't recommend this game.

BASED ON COMPLETED DEMO
Generally I'm a fan of this series. It was so loved that I wouldn’t even need to demo it before a CE buy because they were consistently trustworthy & felt completed. I own all the other ones, but I was bored playing this one. All the details I’m used to from this series are missing. It’s just not up to what I expect from Elephant; which is a lot. I actually struggled to get through the entire demo.
I wasn't impressed with the characters... They looked cartoonish & I wondered what happened. Especially the photos we find here and there. All of them look like unfinished cartoons. Richard’s voice over was WAY too slow and hard to hear clearly with that voice adapter.
Many new players might not notice the things that are missing, but I suggest you go back and play GT #6 The Vengeance (7-2014) to see what I mean. GT #7 Color of Fright was also great (11-2014). These games had amazing cut scenes that pushed the story forward. Even the shelves & items that sit on them for achievements weren't good here. I've grown to expect what we see in Haunted Hotel Personal Nightmare which has beautiful CG moving items on the shelves or interaction in some way like the older GT.
There is no Diary, nothing to hold picked up notes, & no way to review the storyline; only a useless task list I never use. The scenes are ALL interior except for the first, and all scenes are drab, bland, & depressing. Even the portal task map felt subpar to GT The Vengeance. The maps provided by Elephant in the CE are usually a work of art by themselves. I feel the graphics in this game could have been crisper and more saturated like we see in the earlier games I've listed below. The scenes seemed faded by some kind misty filter and the scenes lacked contrast I felt, also needing more color, depth and saturation.
The earlier Grim Tales have spot on voice overs, perfectly drawn characters, beautiful outdoor locations to wander and incredible attention to details. Most of the earlier games had a great diary/journal within the map area. I also used to love how several of the numerous cut scenes were accessible from within the game so you could refresh the story along with the journal.
Go back to Grim Tales Bloody Mary for a better version of this game. It's also played in a boarding school. It has gorgeous scenery that you want to spend time in, and the grim factor is high. It has all the bells and whistles this game is lacking & has crisp saturated graphics too.
I hate to be critical but I’d rather the DEV hear from a club member that is constantly buying these games (and the CE’s to them) than to have said nothing and play another game like this. Since the CE cost double the SE, it just doesn't seem right that so many of the games coming out recently (by many of the developers) feel rushed; especially with the lack of journal/notes and the amount of cut scenes. I truly think both those things are needed to make the player connect more to the characters & story- which in turn would really make the player WANT the additional game play the CE provides (and spend the additional money for it).
I don't suggest this game... but I HIGHLY suggest these, instead-- they are my favorites in this series.
1. Grim Tales #3 The Wishes (gorgeous outdoor locations-
but it's an older game 2012)
2. GT #5 Bloody Mary (This game has one of my all time
favorite screen savers of swan pond in pinks- 2013)
3. GT #6 The Vengeance (2014- cut scenes are plentiful &
you really get to know the characters and WANT to buy
CE for the bonus content/play to see how they turn out)
4. GT #7 Color of Fright (2014) ~ I've added a link....
It feels like some of these newer games are cutting a lot of corners. They are shorter, the stories are light and repeated often, no journal holding the story, less cut scenes, or cut scenes that are just moving stills, shorter HOS in the secondary windows and the graphics aren’t as clear as they can be. This game has some of those problems too & it just isn’t the quality of the others that came before it. Of course I only played the demo, and sometimes games do a 360, in a good way, after the demo. So hopefully this is one of those.
I don't recommend this game.

I’ve written a more complex review under the CE of this game if you want more info. on the bonus play & content… I hope it helps!
The SE portion of the game took me 3 hours
I play all of these games on custom mode at an average pace. I always use the stopwatch on my phone when I’m playing. I try to complete the mini games but will skip them the minute I become frustrated. I’m just showing how I play because it could take you more or less time.
Due to the less than stellar reviews of this game I wasn’t sure I wanted it. After I did the demo I bought it as a second CE in a buy one get one sale. I’m so glad I did. This is my new favorite game by Eipix. This game gets better and better after the demo IMO and I had so much fun spending time in beautiful Ireland. Most of the scenes are in gorgeous outdoor locations. I would normally pick off a couple of rating pegs for this sad story (which is definitely a tad too sad) but the fact there were no fantasy monsters or bizarre things in a mystery genre made me add them back.
This game should have had a different title. Maybe, “Dance Macabre/ Mystery of the Irish Troupe”. I wonder where in the world “banshee” came from in the title and believe it or not, I didn’t even demo the game for a while because I thought it would have a wailing banshee. Fear not, there are no annoying or wailing creatures of any kind anywhere in this game, thank goodness!!
I’ve noticed the graphics by Eipix have improved dramatically since the last MCF The Black Veil.
Since then, things are much crisper/clearer when they adapt to a larger monitor.
The graphics are drawn with computer assist and they were clear, with deep shadowing & just enough saturation plus the colors were great. The items in the secondary windows looked real enough to touch.
Most of the game is played at night with dancing fireflies and added touches of various effects & lighting- such as dropping leaves and they did not wash out or dull a scene as some special effects can. By Chapter 6, dawn breaks the horizon with splashes of pink and gold in the sky. It is rare to see a game actually change the time of day. I loved it. The indoor scenes were also done with care. I kept saying “Ooh, and Aaah” with each new scene. There are stained glass windows streaming colors from the sun, a library I wish I could live in, a beautiful garden and even a mansion with a lily pond.
However, I didn’t like how the characters speak in this game. I don’t mean voice acting, I mean- The character remains in the scene with blinking eyes and no lip movement, and a talking head is on one end of a text box whenever someone speaks. I just prefer when they speak from within the scene or are zoomed in on the face/head area with a blurred background. I found it distracting to have the actual character still standing in the scene without moving at all.
REMARKABLE MG & HOS- Chap. 2 has a HOS with matching the interior of various snow globes to a written pamphlet descriptive. Chap. 2 also has a great HOS with an aerial scene of a group of people holding colorful umbrellas. Chap. 3 had a MG I liked where you have a 2 letters with handwriting. First you compare the words and second the letters in each. There is a perfectly narrated HOS at the train station in Chap.3. In Chap.4 pg.3 you find a photo album where you must locate the highlighted words in these photos. It had multiple pages and it was so realistically done. You learned more of the story and connected with the photos/characters and I thought it was brilliant. Chapter 4 also has an aerial type maze over a garden that you must direct your character past the baddies through the hedges, in 3 different scenes. It was really addicting and not easy by the 3rd one. The end of chapter 5 had a good dexterity type “fight” scene where you must bypass several moving swords and accumulate several light spots.
MUSIC- is also beautifully done. Several tracks are haunting, with harps and bagpipes. Some of the songs reminded me of the movie Titanic. They are tracks that some may want the DL to keep from the CE content. The prettiest of all was the theme to the initial cut scene in chapter 1, I thought.
GAMES THAT ARE SIMILAR:
Here are a couple of other games that remind me of this one in that also had consistently beautiful outdoor gameplay in a specific country/location…. So instead of Ireland, maybe check out Japan (oops, I wrote China by mistake in the CE review) or Tibet here at BFG. Both are more the mystery genre, like this game.
1. Mythic Wonders: Child of Prophecy (1606 JAPAN ~ this game has one of the best screensavers I own.)
I will add a link to it…..
2. Enigmatis 3- The Shadow of Karkhala (set in the Tibetan mountains).
Thank you BFG; and a huge thank you to Eipix ~ This is my new favorite game by you!
I recommend this game!

There are 9 downloadable tracks and each is longer than most gaming DL. They are tracks you actually want the CE content for. I saw two composers that created the music & it is way cool that you can hit a pause button during the credits to see them.
BONUS PLAY: I play the same character in bonus that I was in the main game, Shannon’s daughter. This time, I must save, Cillian my cousin, and get us both safely to my parents friend, Robert Flannigan who also has a dance company we hope to dance in.
There are 8 areas to play in bonus. 3 areas are very slightly revised OLD AREAS, and there are 5 NEW AREAS. There are 4 HOS (2 are only list finds in secondary windows), there are 4 more MG.
COLLECTIBLES- You continue collecting the signs in each new scene & the morphs in the HOS into the bonus play. The signs you collect also end up in their own scene that unlocks after bonus play. Bonus play is shorter than most CE’s & took me just shy of 40 minutes.
TO GAGE THE LENGTH OF BONUS PLAY: The demo was Chapter 1 (this demo took me exactly 45 minutes to finish), and takes up 7 pages of the WTG…..and the bonus play is 6 pages long. This game has 6 chapters, & a bonus chapter and the WTG is 35 pages total.
SOUVENIR ROOM: Unlocks after you finish bonus play. You reopen each of the 30 gorgeous scenes in this game and hunt for one object in the scene. They end up on two shelves in a scene within extras. It took me 6 min. to do this.
These are a couple of other games that come to mind that also had consistently beautiful outdoor gameplay in a specific country/location…. So instead of Ireland, maybe check out Tibet & China with these two games here at BFG. And both are more grounded/mystery genre, like this game.
1. Enigmatis 3- The Shadow of Karkhala (set in the Tibetan mountains) I’ll add a link…
2. Mythic Wonders: Child of Prophecy (also way better after the demo)
Thank you BFG; and a huge thank you to Eipix ~ This is my new favorite game by you!

I play all of these games on custom mode at an average pace. I always use the stopwatch on my phone when I’m playing. I try to complete the minigames but will skip them the minute I become frustrated. I play all the HOS with penalty. I’m just showing how I play because it could take you more or less time.
The SE portion of the game took me 3 hours 55 min.
The CE bonus took me 1 hour 20 min.
Total gameplay- 5hrs 15min.
Those little reactive items you see in the demo, stop at the demo and sadly aren’t seen anymore past chapter 2. I actually notice and appreciate little details like this when they are in a game.
All in all, I am glad I bought the CE. I felt it was a good game- not great game. In its windowed state, it’s set up for a 15” computer, so I did notice the graphics degraded a bit on a larger (24”) monitor. Some kind of filter is used in much of the game, especially in the bonus play that “greys/washes” out the scene. Unfortunately, the scenes don’t have much depth because of that and the entire game is played at night, tending to give it an almost blah feeling. I noticed the graphics in Chapter 6 were even worse. They were the more hand drawn type, not crisp & without depth. I really wish they wouldn’t change the mouse icon into a hand as you mouse over the collectibles. They are way too easy to locate. At least the morphs ARE in the main scene and not the HOS.
MUSIC- The music is so remarkable it needs its own title. It is beautifully done.
However, the HOS are much too easy in the games coming out in this day and age, and I preferred when the objects were more hidden. Chap. 3 also has a great HOS in the vault where some of the items magnify as you pick them up for closer inspection. I would say this is my favorite chapter and has a few very pretty outdoor locations.
BONUS PLAY: Alexandra is having nightmares, so she returns to Richard Moore’s house to see why. She is actually lucid dreaming, and you will learn a bit more why Richard Moore has such an attachment to his house. The characters lips didn’t move when speaking in bonus play as if there were limited time to complete this correctly.
There are 9 areas to play in bonus. 4 areas are very slightly revised OLD AREAS, and there are 5 NEW AREAS. If I counted right, there are 8 HOS, 15 MG and you use the Keeper Device 4 more times.
COLLECTIBLES- You continue collecting all 3 collections into the bonus play.
*** BE SURE TO TAKE INVENTORY BEFORE THE END OF THE GAME BECAUSE YOU CAN’T GO BACK FOR COLLECTIBLE ITEMS and there IS a reward for collecting.
Instead of a journal/diary, there is only a useless task list. In the task list location there are 3 small puzzles you will assemble with collected pieces throughout the game. Be sure to check this area every now and then to complete the puzzle and see the little story blurb beside it.
The other collectibles have an icon you can click right under the map on the left side. There is a scene that opens where you put the items you collect back in place within the scene. I thought that was the bee’s knees. I loved that you are rewarded for getting all the collectibles but wished I hadn’t missed 2 items. I was so sad that I couldn’t go back and get them.
I also liked that they give you the 3 Screensavers right up front in the game so they can run as you play. All three were great. I am happy I bought the CE for these screensavers-- and the bonus play too, made it worth it for me. I bought this game on its first day out.
To gage the length of bonus play: The demo was Chapter 1 & Chap. 2 (approx. 7 ¼ pgs. total-because p6 is really short)… and the bonus play is 10 pages long. So the bonus is longer then the demo. This game has 6 chapters, & a bonus chapter and the WTG is 45 pages total. I didn’t like that as you flipped from one chapter to the next that it wasn’t shown as a title head. You actually have to hit the “back” tab to see what Chapter vs. page number you are on.

The Ominous Objects series is similar.

I play all of these games on custom mode at an average pace. I always use the stopwatch on my phone when I’m playing (but this game has a timer in the tablet, left corner). I try to complete the minigames but will skip if I become frustrated. I play all the HOS with penalty. I’m just showing how I play because it could take some more or less time.
The SE portion of the game 3 hours 27 min.
I really considered buying the CE to this game because I really did like the demo. But 3 things made me choose the SE instead. At the end of the demo we bump into our first Shapeshifters aka/Planet of the Apes lookalikes. I really thought it was a paranormal/mystery/thriller type genre (and it is, that too) but I bummed out to see the fantasy apes take center stage in a crime/mystery game. Second, this game’s CE bonus content didn’t stand out for me. I will usually buy a CE that has a screensaver. The main description of the game says it has “screensavers” but I don’t think it does. And third it mentioned “hunters”. I wish it had specified “witch hunter” not animal hunter as I would have bought the CE if I’d had that clarification. The game play is so good in this game that maybe I will buy the CE for my tablet in the future. I can overlook the fantasy creatures in a mystery but I hope they leave them out if there is a second installment of this game.
It is hard to pin down a genre for this game. It starts out as a crime-horror-paranormal type of thing and swings into a more Sci-Fi feeling by Chapter 3. You don’t see any more of the “skinned” people aside from the demo and the ape men shapeshifters aren’t over used either. You only see those at the end of Chapter 1, and a pinch in Chapter 3. They do not fit into the game imo. There is a bit of “fantasy” here and there too that also didn’t fit. You will see a couple of weird fantasy creatures and some huge spiders that grab people. The game would have been better without those I think.
INVENTORY/DIARY-TABLET
If only all the developers would have it exactly like this……
Inventory items aren’t held long and you actually remember where they go; perfectly done. There's not too much backtracking to place an item. It's usually used in the same room or the one next to it.
Be sure to keep checking the tablet/diary in the left corner as it holds pick up notes that review the story and the cut scenes, which are in order with the pick- up notes. It is also PERFECTLY done! HINT also works as a teleport. The graphics where clear and vibrant on my PC and remained clear stretching out to a larger monitor.
MINI GAMES: I think I played all the mini games in this game which must be a record for me. They are innovative, super fun and mostly game related-- instead of the dexterity/logic type. Chapter 3 has a great one of memory sequences; with swinging hammers, fire, etc. that you must pass that remind me of something I’m used to guiding Lara from Tomb Raider through. It was so well thought out; I just loved it.
Chapter 3 has more of a Sci Fi feel and reminded me of Beyond 1 Light Advent. Chapter 4 has more of an occult/fantasy feel (as does the very end of Chapter 7). Chapter 5 starts with an adorable German Shepard you interact with to proceed that was so clever. What a perfect way to interact with this dog & I wish it had been longer. There was also a fun "make a potion" MG in Chapter 5. There’s a narrated Storybook type HOS (great voiceover) that explains the story more.
Chapter 6 Ester’s House- You play in a modern home and there are jump scares. The amount of detail in this area made me wonder if it was part of the demo at one point.
Chapter 7 The Pier- Starts out beautiful. This whole game takes place at night but the beauty and color make it worth your while hanging out in these areas. I wasn’t a huge fan of where you play the end of the game as it has a complete fantasy feel. There are several mini-games together at the end (like a “boss fight”). The main game ends well & independently from the CE.
All in all, I loved this game from start to finish. Since I wasn’t a fan of the shapeshifters, I’m ok with the fact I didn’t do the bonus play as I read in the game’s main page that the hunters are after the characters we met at the end of the demo.
IF YOU LIKED THIS GAME HERE ARE SOME OTHERS LIKE IT:
1. Beyond: Light Advent (7-2015), consistently great game play with a sci fi feel
2. Whispered Secrets: Ever burning Candle (3/2016) This game is in my top 3 all-time favorites.
Many thanks to Big Fish Games!
And to GrandMa Studios.... Thanks to all involved in making this, & your attention to detail. You are truly a giant here among these developers!
I recommend this game!

BASED ON DEMO
The reviews listed below 3 stars have already summed it up perfectly, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents.
I love EAP, but that fantasy monster women with the space suit and red eyes was so off base for EAP. I am trying to figure out why she was in a mystery series and not a fantasy title.
When I first entered the game, it felt like most of the newer Redemption Cemeteries because it's raining over the dull, dark, drab scene. It's something I don't like in the RC series and even less here. I just can't stand the rain over a scene & you can't turn on/off the special effects. Why there is a mature warning is beyond me because the game looks like a cartoon.
The characters moved so strangely and spoke slowly.
I really dislike the "ta daaaa" flourish sound of the harp sound effect whenever you pick something up. So many ERS games have it and its just annoying. On the bright side, I heard sound effects from 2 games I do love, Fishdom & Burger Bustle series.
I don't recommend this game.
