Based on completed game (+ bonus chapters) I bought the CE version.
This game is broken into 3 titled parts: Part 1: SE portion/main game Part 2: The usual CE bonus chapter. You play as the bride before the wedding. It's played over 6 scenes. Part 3: Find all the collectibles to fill in the “collectible flowers page”, & find all of the puzzle pieces to put the 20 pc puzzle together. Then you are able to play a “find the object and place it back into scene" game over 4 scenes, which I adored! I thought it was so creative how they used this extra play to tidy up the game’s storyline and explain how it all turns out. It took me 10 min. to complete all that. I liked Part 3 better than the actual bonus chapter. I liked the ending to the SE’s ending better than the CE bonus chapter's ending. But that ending is fixed by the 2nd bonus play.
Grandma Studios is the only DEV that puts the cutscenes in sequential order in the game's diary/note holder. I wish all the DEV would do it this way because quite often I will buy a CE on sale and not remember the demo as clearly. This way you can refresh the gameplay & storyline and pick up where you left off which makes you care about the characters more. Total gameplay for me was 3:49 hrs. over 4 days. I skipped a lot of MG but took my time on the HOS, which I prefer.
If a DEV offers a screensaver (moving pic, not just wallpaper) in the bonus content to a game I like I will buy the CE version. If it doesn't, I'll wait for the SE. I know Grandma doesn't usually offer Screensavers but I bought this as a CE because it had "jigsaw piece collectibles". All the other DEV that offer those, end as a Screensaver you can *set*. This game allows you to put the 20 piece jigsaw together but it's only a wallpaper. It does not "set" to create a screensaver. It only sets to a wallpaper. :(
Your collection of flowers has its own page and the Achievement page is the prettiest of all. When the CE bonus chapter starts you still have more of the 48 morphing flowers to find, so you continue collecting them in bonus play. I liked looking for the flowers, the morphing was just right.
Chapter 3 (of Part 1) has some really beautiful scenes by a lake. I thought the graphics in this area (and in some scenes overall) were better than others. The music and environmental audio is just A+ here. It was so relaxing to actually hear the birds chirping and the water lapping off the dock. The music didn't play too much or interfere with the environmental sounds so it was just perfectly done. Sometimes a DEV will use the music too often and I prefer it like this where there are environmental sounds over long stretches of gameplay.
The lake area in Chapter 3 has an remarkable MG that has the prettiest scenes in the entire game, imo. You get a map to get from The Lake to The Graveyard. This MG can be a bit tricky so just trust me and don't give up or you'll miss some really beautiful areas. You must enter several scenes to find and use one object at a time to get through to the area called "Graveyard". It is a 22 step MG that has no hints. I took a picture with my phone of the MG in the Walkthrough Guide to complete it since it won't allow you to access the WTG while playing it. My favorite scenes were Birch Cove & The Swamp. They should have used these scenes in the main game.
It seems so insignificant to be writing a review to this game after seeing Grandma Studio's Facebook page and the tragedy & weight of what they are enduring currently. I have so much empathy for you & your loved ones. You are in my prayers. May God be with you.
Played 40min of the 60min demo, got stuck & stopped until I can find a Walkthrough Guide. I love horror games and would have bought this if it had one.
This game brought me back to 2007-2010 and the point & click Adventure games I was so in love with. A game called Still Life (& Still Life 2) was probably my favorite game of this type. I also loved Siberia II which can still be purchased here at BFG.
I liked the point & move system this game has. I liked that it made you think. I didn't like how dreary every scene is. In a game this dark, it would have been nice to have another color to break the monotony of every scene looking so similar, instead of feeling trapped in such a dreary horrific atmosphere. Imagine if they made a revolutionary game that was a 360 degree 3D HOPA? Have movement exactly like this but make it a Hidden Object Game. Hiding the objects on the floor and ceiling even. How fun that would be!
Whenever I would play an Adventure/only game I would find a Walkthrough Guide to assist me before even attempting a large file game. I couldn't believe this CE didn't have one. I' m not happy the Blog WTG to the SEs, that BFG used to supply, on the SE home page are now gone upon release of the new SE games. With a game like this they are essential if you get stuck like I just did. It means someone like me may have purchased the game, but didn't because I couldn't proceed. I also like to see where I am in a game.
There are dead bodies everywhere and each has died some torturous way. The game was a bit slow needing more character interaction. I made it to the room with the broken stairs but couldn't figure out how to get to the second floor.
If the Standard Version has a Blog Walkthrough Guide with the release of this game I will definitely buy it. If not, then I'll have to pass.
Based on completed game + bonus chapter (I bought the CE in a Bogo)
Main game took me 2:34 hrs Bonus chapter took me 1 hr Total CE play was 3:34 hrs (over 3 days, I skipped a lot of mini games, I prefer HOPs which I took my time on.)
I loved the upside down version of this twisted fairytale. I don't normally like or review fantasy, cutsie, or fairytale games but sometimes I'm in the mood to play one. I liked the darker theme to this demo and wanted to finish this game.
I only bought this as a CE because it has 4 screensavers. They don't really "do" much but I'm still glad I purchased the game. I was about to put it on my SE buy list instead, until I read the great review by MajesticSunset who listed those 4 puzzles you get by collecting the puzzle pieces actually turn into screensavers (when they are assembled they can be "set". Thank you MajesticSunset! I really appreciate & value your reviews, along with many others here. Elephant, I wish you'd list that it has screensavers on the game's main page.
I really disliked the graphics. The detail and contrast shadowing is nearly gone and the cartoonish scenes are washed out by some kind of filter. If you play this game on a 15" computer, or smaller, the graphics improve. Try playing an earlier Elephant game (Grim Tales The Wishes, GT Bloody Mary, or Harrowed Legends to know what I mean.) The graphics were just incredible back then. Clear, defined, deeply shadowed and full of detail. It really helps in a Hidden Object game to identify an item quickly because it looks real due to good graphics.
This game is bare bones. It is just missing too much story to be a 5* game. I was surprised when the end cutscene finished and I was trying to figure out what just happened at the close of the main game. So much of the game just isn’t explained. The CE bonus play is the usual “cutsie fairytale”, without any of the dark feel of the demo. I think it was a missed opportunity to explain the main game better. Cutscenes can't be replayed either. It's not a bad game, it just feels unfinished. I did love being able to go back to each of the scenes and collect any puzzle pieces I missed.
I wish the DEV would give us the bonus content up front. You should have access to all of it paying twice as much for the CE. Especially now, that the games are shorter, have less glitter & bang. Also, the SE versions are being released without the game's main page Blog Walkthrough guides that Big Fish provided. I actually cancelled over an 11 year ongoing membership over that. I've since rejoined but honestly I'm still very unhappy about it because I used those all the time.
I keep wondering if the DEV needs to kick these games out too fast due to staffing issues related to Covid (?) It's obvious something has changed but we don't know what...
This game reminds me of these below, you might want to demo them. 1. Dark Parables Rise of the Snow Queen 2. Fairly Twisted Tales Price of a Rose (and Fairly Twisted Tales 2 Snow White Black- not offered at BFG)
The concept of this game is great. It would be fun if you did a twisted Little Red Riding Hood because a lot of the game could be in the woods. Elephant creates the most beautiful woodland scenes. Still luv ya Elephant; been with you a long, long time. You keep making them with screensavers, and I'll keep buying them.
Whoa! I dear you not to laugh at these aliens; they rock!
If you love to play HOPs and also enjoy the "reactive items" we click on in some of the HOPA games then this is the game for you! You can interact with almost every item in this world.
This game is such a blast and I found it challenging at times too. They were really thinking outside of the box when they made it; so much so we are on another planet! I thought that made it was so thoughtful and creative from anything I've ever seen in a HOP-only game.
You can literally see the TLC and the effort this team put into creating this moving world and it's hilarious inhabitants.
The aliens are so cute in the way they respond to you clicking on them. This DEV has such a great sense of humor and I realized I was laughing every other second while playing it (which is super important when you are recovering from Covid.)
The aerial view we have of this game reminds me of the village you create in the M3 Cradle of Egypt (my fav. M3 of all time.) I'll add a link if you want to try the demo.
Just an idea....maybe for the 2nd game in this series, change up the basic color scheme using black on shades of pinks & grays for the environment instead of black on purple, green & tan (so it feels different without being all that different.)
Well done to every person involved in making this incredible game. This is time well spent and the replay value is endless.
BASED ON COMPLETED GAME (+ bonus chapter) (I purchased the CE)
This game reminds me of a fun horror series created in 1989 called Tales from the Crypt. I loved it then, I love it now because there are multiple storylines weaving into the main game. I loved the replay factor on this game to achieve different endings as well. I couldn't wait to get back to this game when I had to stop playing.
Elephant, you got me! I didn't think it was possible after all these years but you made me jump. Well done!
There is a MG I really loved where you put items back into a comic book. I noticed the items in the HOS were well hidden and interactive for the most part. I absolutely loved there were multiple characters in each of the stories that hung out with the main character. The SE part took me 3:16 hrs. The CE bonus chapter 1:11 hrs. TOTAL PLAY for CE: 4:27 hrs. (over 2 days) I play on custom and take my time to read and look at everything. Chapter 2 has a time of day change which breaks up the monotony of game play. I loved so many things about this game however each of the storylines needed a little more explanation or completion. Maybe next time only do two stories but make them longer to fix that. I didn't like the bonus chapter. You play as Kai and there are 8 scenes of which 3 are new but the others are mostly revised or scenes from the main game. I counted 6 more MG and I believe 4 HOS. Even though I wasn't big on the bonus chapter, the other CE content was 100% worth the purchase to me. I loved the screensaver that comes with bonus content in the CE. The deity of balance, Mistress Eve (loved her) is standing behind the Crossroads bar and her snake is coiled up on the counter. You collect jigsaw pieces to actually put together a jigsaw puzzle which you get a great little reward for as well (which I'll keep surprise.)
If you like the general theme to this game's demo, I listed some other games to try under my CE review but I forgot to list these too. Maybe try the demos if you haven't already.
1. Harrowed Halls: Lakeview Lane 2. Maze: Stolen Minds (it's awesome, playing it now) 3. Maze: Sinister Play 4. F.A.C.E.S (asylum game, created in 2012 so no bells & whistles)
I can't wait for Crossroads #2. I was thrilled beyond belief you made a spooky game like this for adults. Thank you Elephant!
Is our character Sara a bobblehead? Her eyebrow is 3 times longer than her foot. LOL
The bubble-shooter game "Sparkle" is the first casual game I ever played. I was in love with this type of game and forgot how fun they can be. However, this game feels like it was designed for a preschooler based on the characters, fonts, drawings, & music. I found the instructions to be a bit hit or miss. I consider myself pretty good at this kind of game but hard as I tried I couldn't get past 2 stars for level 5. I replayed it a few times.
- You need to manually claim your achievements (Left side of screen click the golden cup icon, then "claim") - By playing bubble-shooter you gain stars to use as currency to use on the next item to build... -the icon under it bulleted dashes is the "next item to build" in you building area which is - You get to upgrade outside of a house & yard for your animals (a dog & a cat in the trial.) - The conversations between the characters are juvenile (but that makes sense if it was designed for young kids.) I kept forgetting I needed to click the button that had the next upgrade to apply because it wasn't fun stuff to apply... it was like, fixing a patch in the roof of the house or fix a section of fence. - The colors of the marbles and the actual play board backdrop are the same colors so it's hard to see your "next up" bubble that's in your shoot. For example the green ball is the same exact Kelly green as the grass. The brown ball was the same as the yard's dirt path. Knowing lickity split where all your colored balls are is what makes you super-fast & efficient at this kind of game. - There is a blinking bag you must hit with the marbles for points so try to clear balls to get through the rows to hit it. I found if one of the bags appeared toward the end of the level you couldn't actually hit it with a marble because your level points start adding up and interrupt that final shoot. It kept happening and was a frustrating flaw.
Level 13 is called "Beat the Raven". You have to shoot at a raven for extra points and he squawks when you hit him. :/ When he's defeated it shows stars going around his head (lights out). Some will say it's just a game, I get it, but I wish they'd made it something else like hitting a model airplane. I'm a huge animal lover; apparently even cartoon ones.
I didn't think this game was horrible but there are games of its type I just like better.
BASED ON COMPLETED DEMO I was so caught off guard when the demo ended. Instant buy.
The point of each level is to gain 3 gold stars. In order to do this you need to complete 3 tasks in each scene. 1. FIND A CAMERA: shows snapped photo of the location you are playing in. 2. FIND 3 CATS: look in the zoom zones too. (All meow, when you find them and I *really* loved that.) 3. FIND A PAW PRINT: Each paw print is some little animal that makes a noise. Again, surprised myself with HOW much I loved this feature. LOL
(HOS)- There are 30 hidden object scenes in the game. So there are also 30 pictures in your photo album. Each scene has 18 items to find.
(MG) There are many types of Mini Games. Find the difference, 18pc jigsaw (the jigsaw pieces made snapping noises and again, I was way too elated over that. ha ha), match 2, mahjong, fit the different shaped pieces into a grid to make them fit. Any of the MG can be skipped (cool.)
GIFT TAB: As you complete the HOS you earn game currency to purchase up to 14 "gifts". I liked these gifts a lot. :) PHOTO BOOK TAB: Saves all the pictures you snap when you find a camera in a HOS. It would have been cool if they had labeled each location in the actual snapshot you keep too. Seems I'd love to go to Amsterdam, Netherlands (looks like Venice)
ZOOM ZONES: The 2ndary windows in this game are a bit different than other games of its type. They are located in a vertical column on the R-middle of the main screen. The zz will open & close according to when items are currently there.
GRAPHICS- Real photos make for crystal clear game play even on a large monitor.
SFX- Is a cut above. There is a perfect balance of calming environmental sounds in some scenes and very pretty music in others. You can hear the beach waves, waterfalls, birds chirping... Wow. Just wow. Now this is how it's done in this kind of game! A+++++
This game is awesome. I'd rate it higher than 5* if possible. Thank you BD Studio Games! The replay value on this game is timeless.
I was really hard on the first MCF this DEV created (Harbinger). The second one, Crossfire, was better and this game was best of the 3 MCF by Grandma. I really liked the story of Pendle Tower and I was interested to keep playing to the end of the demo. I thought the special effects were really good too.
The only thing I didn't like much was the graphics. I prefer CG graphics that are crisp because on a large monitor the graphics to this game spread out and are not as defined as the first few games in the MCF series starting with Dire Grove. Even if they added a 1080 x 19whatever feature to fix that it would be better or if they used real photos to save time (like Vacation Adventures), I think it would be more realistic and atmospheric which this series requires. I’m surprised they don’t use real pictures and a camera filter but obviously I’m no pro at how these games are made; I only know what I like.
I may buy the SE to this game with a free game code but only if BFG puts the Blog Walkthrough guide link back on the game page for the SEs. It's not fair to paying members that they have removed it from the new SEs releasing now to force us into buying the CEs, I assume, which have a built in walkthrough guide. It’s not fair to the DEV either because I’m sure there are other members who notice this and may not buy the game.
BASED ON COMPLETED DEMO ONLY WHAT I LIKED: ~ I really loved the textured paint. What a brilliant idea for this type of game. ~ I liked how the black coloring lines disappeared too. ~ There is a pixel art option in the menu screen, to the right of the "art selection" in the menu, so all of the same images are available to do as either paint or pixel option. I personally like the paint games way better. ~ I liked most of the images and pretty colors they chose. ~I liked you could choose what image to complete out of all the selections and especially loved being able to skip straight to level 21, a perfect pic of a little bulldog.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE AS MUCH: ~But after the 45 minute mark my eyes were super strained trying to see the teeny numbered spots that weren't in the "center general painting area". They need to incorporate that moving zoom feature like the recent game Looking for Aliens does so well. I found it so hard to zoom a particular area to work on. I wish there was a feature that would allow me to "drag the zoom" to paint that square an inch to the left. I can't believe this didn't bother other people.
Some thoughts...
~It would be cool if the entire "paint area" is actually canvas, even the little numbered areas, instead of just the background the picture is sitting in. I think it would give the game a more authentic feel. ~It might be cool to add "painting the canvas" game effect sound so if the player turns down the music you still hear yourself painting instead of just a clicking mouse.
~So much time and work goes into completing these paintings so wouldn’t it be incredible if you could keep the painting somehow, like the game Puzzle Pieces 6: Christmas Advent (to use as your own wallpapers.)
I agree! It does appear Elephant has been reading the reviews and wow did this game pay off. This one is an instant buy for me. Everything feels fresh and for a new series this is how it should be done...even the toolbar is different! At first I was looking in the zoom zones for the collectibles but that was changed out too. I agree with Pennmom36 that someone at MHG may have merged here because it feels like the best from both of the DEV in a combination almost.
I'm a Tomb Raider fan and also collect TR comic books. So talk about being thrilled with the perfectly rendered comics here. It was a brilliant idea. So I want the CE for the screensaver and the other collectibles create a comic book (how cool is that)!
They even let you choose the next "chapter" to play so you get several games in one game. No boredom here, geez, I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out where to go next to save these people! I LOVED IT.
If you are new to this site and liked this game, try the demo to these that I feel are a bit similar.
1. True Fear: Forsaken Souls (it has a second one, but it's not offered here yet) 2. Maze: Subject 360, and Maze: The Broken Tower 4. Dreadful Tales #2: The Fire Within (2 game series & both are good.) 5. Brink of Consciousness: Dorian Gray Syndrome (It’s an outstanding game with an incredible end to the CE. It is old, so no maps etc. I'll add a link.)
I want to mention the music and SFX here is a cut above in this game. It plays exactly when it's needed and adds to the creepy factor. The baddy’s voice-over literally sounds like it’s coming through a speaker system and not just a person with a mic. The voice acting is great too.
This game also has more than one storyline that weaves into the main game. Many of my favorite games do this.
Thank you Elephant Games (and BFG), you should be so proud of yourselves (I'm so proud of you.) More like this please!
