Well, here I was enjoying this game, although the color was a bit dark and made things hard to see, and then wham...it was over. Very bad ending...good grief, did the developers just get tired or is this a set up to buy the collector's edition. If it is, then that was just plain bad gaming.
The detectives voice-over was awful...screechy and way to over excited. Story was good, if the ending had been better. The game actually got a little confusing toward the end like maybe someone just wanted it to get over with.
Lots and lots of tedious puzzles that a puzzle lover would enjoy...I just skipped them all. Had the options set to make the hint and skip refresh very quickly. Lots of HOS, which were creative, but dark at times which made it very difficult to find things.
Would I recommend this? Only if you are getting it on sale or with a credit because the ending is really bad and it ruined the whole game.
I never even considered this series of match 3 because it looked so dorky, but being desperate for a match 3 I thought I'd give it a try because of all the high ratings. Glad I did. What a fun match 3 (I still think the characters are dorky though).
I played on relaxed mode and found it mildly challenging, however I suspect on timed mode it could be real challenging. I plan to play again on timed mode.
Plan to get the whole series. Animations and graphics were fantastic. Music was annoying so I turned it off. I did however get tired of playing the same puzzles over and over, but they gave me gold so I did. You do have the option of skipping them though.
I enjoy the Dark Tales series and have them all, but although I enjoyed this game for the most part, I can't say it was a very smooth flowing game and they have changed Dupin and not for the better.
Could be a bit confusing and not a great storyline. The ending was probably one of the worse I've seen in years. I was a bit disappointed in this one and probably won't play it again. Should have waited and bought in on a BOGO or with a credit...not a good full price one.
I enjoyed this game which seemed to move along smoothly with two exceptions: The transporter map legend indicated "active areas" or next place to go, but it didn't which made you use the transporter hint to go to the next place of action so I didn't use the map at all.
Second: The puzzles were confusing because the instructions were very vague so the puzzles would not work right, which was frustrating.
Scenes were dark so at times things were hard to find. Seemed to be a lot to do and the transporter hint was necessary to move around.
I like that games are now coming out with a "custom" setting which allows you to skip tutorials and set hint and skip to refresh quickly. Definitely a plus. There seemed to be a lot of HOS and puzzles in this game. A lot of dialog and cut scenes..some you can skip other you can't.
I have all the games in this series and enjoy them.
What an awkward, slow, tedious game. I actually could not finish it. The demo was good, so I bought it, but it rapidly slid down hill. Even Dupin was different.
Transporter map blocked you quite often...still haven't figure that out, so I had to use the hint to move around, which I did quite often. Skipped all the tedious puzzles and the HOS were tiring.
Scenes were dark and you could hardly see anything, hence the use of the hint. Instructions were vague which made the game even more frustrating and the different story-lines were just absurd.
Can't figure out all the "warnings". This game wasn't a whole lot different or "intense" than any others I've played. I guess that is a hook to encourage game play. Just couldn't take anymore...seemed like the game was never going to end.
I played this game in segments, but found it to be a smooth flowing game with an excellent transporter map. Story was really nothing new and the characters a bit "stiff" but the voice-overs were good, although you could tell they were reading from a script.
HOS and puzzles were good and not too hard. You could customize the game so the hint and skip would refresh quickly. The ending game/puzzle was a bit of a challenge. Some areas were dark, but playable.
Based roughly on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde the story and substance of this game got lost in so many challenging puzzles and HOS. I am not a fan of puzzles and when a game is almost totally designed around them, it becomes no fun.
Good transporter map and hint without both I could not have played the game for long. Game just seemed to go from one puzzle to the next and at times the story didn't even make a lot of sense. Ending was vague.
If you are a puzzle player, you will love this game, but for those who want a bit more depth to their game play, this won't be for you. I am not designating recommendation as that would be unfair with this game.

Haunted Legends: The Iron Mask
Explore 17th-century France as you track down a masked killer.
Boy, am I glad that is over. What an awkward, awkward game. For some reason I keep buying these haunted legends games without demo because of good reviews and totally regret it.
Lousy transporter map which is hard to use (use the hint, its faster) and confusing. Seems to be standard in these games. Dark, silhouette HOS which are tedious and objects nearly impossible to find...tedious puzzles which I skip most of. And on top of that the ending is really bad, and I really dislike that annoying little imp. Constant jumping from one place to another for one item to use somewhere else...not a smooth game and without a good transporter map, it becomes very aggravating.
What is good? Voice overs, animations, graphics; music I always turn off.
Totally enjoyed this game. So creative and inventive made me almost wonder what the developers were on when they designed it. I actually didn't mind the little animal helper in this one. Smooth running game with easy going game play.
HOS were so interesting I was actually looking forward to them as were most of the puzzles a lot of fun to play. Animations and graphics were amazing. Voice overs were good. The only thing that I found a bit annoying were some of the cut-scenes/dialog I could not skip...others you could. Odd.
I found the game to be just the right length. Transporter map was definitely needed as you did do a bit of jumping around. Story was a pretty common one, but the content of the game made up for it. Totally loved this game. Definitely worth every penny paid.
This game was colorful, but it was so boring and awkward that I almost fell asleep. When I found myself just clicking through the game without thinking I decided to just quit.
Purchased the game without playing because of all the good reviews, I just hope I didn't pay full price. Very awkward game, not smooth flowing at all. Puzzles were tiring and HOS were forgettable.
