This is an incredible game! The story speaks to the human soul and our fears, whether logical or not. It also speaks to the part of us that wants to crush those fears, in a heroic way. The overall storyline has several adventures, and each one is a complete story by itself. The graphics are magnificent. And it has a feel-good ending. I've already started playing it again. You'll need the strategy guide: it's a challenging game.
If all you want is an HOS game, then "Pirate Mysteries: A Tale of Monkeys, Masks, and Hidden Objects" is a good game. However... Although the title makes it sound like a fun, HOS/Adventure game, it's just HOS, with a few puzzles. The storyline had great potential, but they failed to deliver. On the plus side, the graphics are very good, and the HOS are moderately challenging.
I just finished playing Urban Legends: The Maze, and I loved it! It's more adventure/strategy than anything else, and not really a Hidden Object game. You, the game player, are a detective hired to find missing participants in a game called The Maze. You have special talents which will help you. Think of yourself as MacGyver. And you'll need those talents many times to save yourself, along with the missing participants, who have been captured by an evil genius. Yes, it's kinda corny in some ways, but it's also fun. The puzzles are challenging, but if you need to skip, that's fine. The hints are helpful, for the most part. There is a map that you can use to quickly travel from one place to another.
There is more adventure in this game than HOS. The authors have produced a drama worthy of the movie screen. You, the game player, are an author who investigates history and the paranormal. You are approached by the ghost of Houdini's wife, who asks you to help her. There are different types of puzzles to solve, plus ravens and clovers to find. I'm a history buff who loves adventure games, so this game is even more fun for me. I've played it twice, and will play it again.
This is based on the demo, but I am definitely buying it as soon as I get paid! First off, I have to say how good it is to see a game with scenes that are dark, creepy, old and run-down--- but NOT filthy! Thank you! The graphics are crisp & well-done, voice-overs are well done, and there is a good variety of puzzles. Objects found in puzzles make sense, and can be used. This is a psychological thriller, and it's done very well. While the bad guy is said to be fixated on Dorian Gray, he demonstrates his fixation in a bizarre, frightening way. There is no gore, but there are plenty of macabre scenes. The hints are ok. The Guide is very helpful. And the map shows where you are, in reference to scenes that need further investigation.
Based on the demo. This game has great graphics. It starts out very well, even including a corny, scary ghost. Then you see other ghosts as the story moves along. But after the first 20-30 minutes of play, the pace slowed down to a crawl. As for the historical part, one thing really stuck out for me... a wooden replica of an 18th century steam locomotive, before steam locomotives even existed? I will not buy this one.
This is based on the demo. Very creepy. If Vincent Price was alive today, I can see him playing the bad guy. While this kind of story has been used before, it's one that has remained popular, not only in games, but in books, etc. The Guide is very helpful. There are several different kinds of puzzles, besides a LOT of HOS. Voices were good quality. There was more emphasis placed on the creepy sounds than the story. Since I prefer more adventure, less filth, and fewer HOS, I will not be buying this game.
This is based on the demo. This game has great graphics and music. The hints are really good, but the map didn't help me at all-- as far as I got in the demo. That might change farther on in the game. The storyline is fairly traditional, but it works well here. This would be a good game for adults to play with children. Parents and grandparents should FIRST play the demo of Return of the Curse, to see if their child/grandchild is old enough to play it with them, and if the child is one who enjoys fairies, witches, etc...
Based on the 60 Min Demo. Took a while for me to get into the storyline, but by the end of the demo, I was hooked. If you're an X-Files fan, you'll like this one. The hints are very helpful, good graphics, good written dialogue.
Based on the demo. This game has beautiful graphics, really good music, plus lots and lots of HOS games. No adventure to speak of, which is what I look for. If you're a die-hard HOS fan, then this is the game for you.
