Fabulously creepy game, magnificent graphics, great voice overs, fun, interesting um, but too many of the same 'find the pairs' hos's - that became tedious quite quickly.....I would have given it 5 stars but it was soooooo short lived, sigh. The beta came out in July.....I don't understand why a CE of this caliber is so terribly lacking in length?! It's the kind of game you just want to go on and on (please don't take that to mean I want another 10 in the series - really beginning to dislike series games). Unlike the first of the series where you couldn't wait for it to be over. The last 2 Haunted Houses' were the best, this one definitely the winner of all. I get the impression that the graphics artist who originally created the look of detective James, did not finish this one....the character does not look the same in many of the scenes.....I am highly suspicious that it was another artist who completed....perhaps that's the reason for the time gap....Still a wonderful game. Very entertaining.
I hate to be a spoilsport, but all the hype did not live up to expectations. It was a great game, in fact nothing essentially wrong with it, but it was not MCF unique, constantly interesting and diverse. I can't give a 5 star for that reason. As a stand alone game it is worth 5 stars....but not as an MCF hyped up true to the uniqueness and style of the original series. I am sadly disappointed that it did not live up to that expectation. Don't get me wrong....like I said, it was a great stand alone game...stunning graphics, moving characters (thank GOD), awesome voice overs, the puzzle doors were a blast, didn't get one without a few hints, HOS's were alright, very Elephant games style. The story line was good just not great or really interesting. I am quite fond of the female voice over for the detective, she is in quite a few games and her voice articulates perfectly the actions and feel of the games she's in - she's a keeper! I'm sure I will play it again.....just not 5 or 6 times like I do all the other original MCF games....although I really love - and it is still my top fav....as it was very much in the style of the originals - MCF Fates Carnival. I would very much like to see MCF Madame Fate redone with new graphics, an extended storyline, with revamped old bells and whistles with a whole lot newer innovations added. Or a Huntsville 2 or the first Ravenhurst....I would definitely buy those. This game is a great game.....worth the full price but not as an MCF original.
A fire breaks out during a concert, and now your daughters are both missing. Hurry to track them down – their music may hold the key to life and death!
Although the game has great graphics, I thought, the story was sooooooo BAD, awful, boring, repeat, repeat, repeat..... UGH! The puzzles were simple, which I kinda liked, but were repetitive. The music became annoying extremely fast. This is a STANDARD EDITION billed as a CE.....I feel totally ripped off that I paid the CE full price for something absolutely not in that caliber. There were NO extra collectibles....the items collected to continue the story were part of the game and therefore not extra. It was a short game.... 3 hours with the extra being 35 minutes and basically a repeat of the beginning of the story with the same puzzles but a slightly different twist. I'm so disgusted by the deliberate misrepresentation of this game that I can't trust myself to say another word. I will not recommend this game for that reason!
Really enjoyed playing this game....I rarely compare to previous games as I like to let a game stand on its own. The stories are just getting tedious...and this one was no exception. Although, huge kudos for moving mouths and facial expression when characters are speaking.....that is SO OFFPUTTING... when the character movement doesn't match the voice overs. The 'flames' and I use that word lightly, were so tiny that they were often difficult to find.....had to use the guide to find a some of them. LOVED all the puzzles and finding items portions, HOSs were quite standard but still fun. Graphics were awesome as I love drawn scenery and characters. I for one am quite fond of the detectives/narrators being mostly female since this is the rare media that has more female heroines. Okay, the helpers really gotta go.....I don't mind the rare helper in parts of the game, but the raccoon mostly just irritated me with it's growling and throat noises...ugh - although this one was more animal accurate, it had to be directed, but it was more challenging than enjoyable. I find that I have way more enjoyment in a game and am more engrossed when there are several areas of play in each scene and this one was absolutely marvelous in that respect. As for the storyline, well, it wasn't terrible just another boring slant on the same old tale....PLEASE, PLEASE, come up with something new and entirely different....someone, anyone!?! I always love an interactive map and use it quite a bit. I buy CE's because I like having the guide even tho I may not use it often, also for the bonus chapter and this one had a hidden chapter, albeit, VERY SHORT. I rarely ever replay the HOS's or puzzles in the extras, I would if they changed up the items because then it would feel like a whole new HOS. All in all tho it was an engrossing game and recommend it for all levels.
Enjoy this beautiful adventure set in a unique interactive 3D Thailand! Complete mysterious puzzles and find hidden objects. Prepare for an unforgettable experience!
The story line was great, really liked the old monk...he was a hoot. I normally dislike 3D games intensely but this one was much, much easier to navigate than most. The graphics were too much red and gold, so it made it very hard to find things. Truly grateful that the hint button was quite useful and recharged quickly, which made the game far more fun and easier to play. Without it I would have become very frustrated as there was no logical next step. I think I would have given up quickly were it not for the guide of that hint button. I do not like having to use the mouse constantly, ie: pick up, hold and place items, I find it very painful and my hand gets stiff quickly from having to hold the mouse for constant movement of items. Really could have used some instruction regarding the movement around the screen, and overall view as well as tips on the hidden statues.....which I had no idea about until I accidentally clicked on a few. I would not recommend this for new gamers because of the lack of direction, which is unfortunate because I think it would be a great first time 3D adventure for novice players. The map was also very useful but had to use the hint button to know where to go to next. Overall tho it was a good game and I enjoyed playing it.
I recommend this game!

Shrouded Tales: The Spellbound Land Collector's Edition
Your magical powers have finally awakened. Now you have the strength to free your mother from the Shadow Realm!
Although the graphics aren't the usual crisp and clear, they were still defined enough to enjoy and was still a fabulous game to play! Loved all the spellcasting and using the spells in almost every area of the game. Not unique in the story but interesting and cohesive all the same. Really enjoyed playing this CE. My response was, 'FINALLY' a game to do stuff in......instead of just a 'seek and find all' adventure, which is what the last few CE's were like. It was hours of fun, could have been 5 or more, I lost track. Definitely a game I will be playing again. This game is quite different from Stranded Dreamscapes: The Prisoner adventure...so didn't recognize Friendly Cactus, the developer. I would like to see a less violent version of 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' for this platform of gaming.
The only good aspect of this game were the graphics - hence the 2 stars. Beautifully rendered as the previous. BUT OH MY GOODNESS....worst story EVER! I am still confused about who actually married who, what actually really happened, where the snow leopards actually came from....it seems Autumn did something to Spring but your guess is as good as mine what it was??? At first you think it's Autumn that the male character married and then SURPRISE it's actually Spring, but then she's the one with the vendetta??!! The game was ridiculously easy, and as much as I love entertainment not challenge, this was excruciatingly boring. A little bit of mental exercise is good for the mind, having to think about what to do next stimulates my imagination keeps me on my toes. Entertainment includes a good story, thought provoking, uplifting, scary even.....but this, this was profoundly awful and painful. I am getting more and more bored with adventure games.....I haven't been really excited since MCF's Fate's Carnival. There was a time when I couldn't wait for the next new PC adventure game....now I just wait for a good sale....
Really, enjoyed playing this CE. Quite fond of this type of graphics, really like the story, nasty noble goes after "commoner who actually turns out to be a displaced Noble, who falls in love with daughter" tragic love story, yes I'm a sap who loves sappy happy endings. So shoot me. Lots of interactive play and endless HOPA's, however, some did become tedious. No major back tracking which I was relieved to see, such a pain to have to try to remember to go wayyyyyy back to get something from 10 or 15 scenes ago. I really enjoyed this game mostly, so savored playing it. The morphing objects actually had a purpose and weren't difficult to find that was a nice touch. No helpful helper, didn't miss that. No EXTRA extras, so that was kinda disappointing. The bonus game was alright, fun but nothing really special. Thanks BF. :D
Really enjoyed this game from Eipix. Not that I usually don't but it's hit and miss with these developers and I'm not really sure why. I think it has a lot do with how much there is to do in the game and this one was just chalk full of fun and interesting interactions. A great mix of hidden object, not always the same, which really makes a difference for me. And mixing it up on the puzzles. I dislike repetition, quite frankly drives me bonkers. Also not having the same faces over and over again, I realize that doesn't save on actors but use different faces in your company, doesn't really require savvy acting just creative graphics from what I can see. And Eipix know's how to use their own quite creatively. Voice overs seem to be a endless pool to draw from. My own son in law is a thespian and extremely talented. Anyway, back to the game. Loved the graphics, more colorful in this anthology of the Amaranthine series. Several different scenes to go through. Two separate heroines. Equals lots of fun, and lots of playing hours.....I lost count after 6. Great value and that matters a lot to me. Highly recommend!
I really wanted to give this game more stars, but it's not as good as the first 2 in the series. It was ok, but I'm hoping this is the last in the series. Seems Mad Head Games felt that a good thing should last FOR EVER. My favorite part was Midas and his explanation of what happened to his alchemist.....I laughed out loud at that one. Still chuckling actually. That kind of humor is the best....the kind where it's not scarcastic (yes, scarcastic) or nasty but rather self deprecating. The game was fun and it played well and had the usual CE stuff. I always like when there are extra chapters and fun things to do when the core game is done. And really like when the collection of items can be gone back for and play out as a puzzle or whatever. I still recommend the game and again tho not at the CE price. Simply because a lot of the scenes are rehashed from previous versions and it wasn't exciting....at all.
