I've played the last five in this series including this one, and while I wait for this every year, weaving the cruise theme with the Xmas story didn't do it for me this year. I'm old-fashioned, so I like the storyline more centered around the family gathering and home. Just me perhaps. But it didn't stop me from ordering it and playing the moment I saw it. Love the series. Not too difficult, and something the entire family can play and enjoy together.

I love the Jewel Match and Solitaire series, and I think I have them all. However, this version was slightly disappointing which is why I didn't give it a 5 rating. Other Jewel matches had the "mana" bottles scattered throughout and more coins available so that you could purchase power-ups. Those were replaced more by darting arrows, explosions, and other in-game items. I played the limited moves and normal difficulty, and the developer is very liberal with the moves for each level. You can more than finish with what they give you. The graphics are superb, and for me the challenge was more in the separate puzzles to win stars. Didn't see much use for the stars in this game unlike earlier versions. GIven that this is a Halloween version, my guess is that they didn't have it ready in time for the Holiday, but I could play this year round. I might try it again with a higher level of difficulty to see if you do in fact get more mana bottles and coins. All in all, a nice way to spend a weekend afternoon.
This is your basic solitaire game from 8th Floor. The challenges lately have been much better than a few years ago, when you could barely win a hand. There are other games out there that let you add cards, more frequent shuffles, prizes, etc., but the developer sticks to the basics with this game. You have to win the gold cards by a certain number on each level group to proceed to the next. You have to look at each hand to spot how the gold cards are hidden and how to get to them. You're not given a lot of help as earlier mentioned, so you have to think with each step. These solitaire games are not as bad as some of the reviews make out. I'm in the minority, but I like the solitaire from this developer. You have to do more with less, so that's the challenge.

FINALLY, a game that I've been waiting for in the spirit of the games when I first began with Big Fish almost 6 years ago. In the continuing genre of witches, zombies, fairies, and ghouls, we finally have a story and its accompanying logic and game play that remind me of the Sherlock Holmes games and deductions. Really innovative, with graphic line art combined with web page interactive graphics to give you a different kind of playing experience. HOG -- some more difficult interspersed with easier. But you have to use your brain to figure out the next steps and puzzles. This game's a find for people who love to relax by using logic. Good storyline by the way, along with Victorian atmospherics. Why I call it Sherlock Holmes.

This developer has very similar solitaire games only with different graphics. But he, or she, has found a niche market that enjoys simple, nonsensical solitaire games. You win the round when you gather all the gold cards, but you need a strategy to get them and have to consider where in the winding layouts fall the cards to remove and in what order. Personally feel that with this version, the developer has given more cards to play with in the deck because some of his earlier versions were near impossible to win. It's a way to relax over lunch or a gloomy weekend afternoon.

I'm only giving it two stars because I love opera. The opening is decent if a bit odd, since we don't have any talking characters. The HOGs, when available were challenging, not obvious. But the game dissolves into, "why am I doing this?". DIsappointment. Could have been so much better.
For me, who loves a good story, mystery, creepy, etc., this game started out satisfying. As it wore on, the story line became non-existent and discombobulated. No mini-games, HOP super easy, text storyline full of typos, and then the game abruptly ends. You don't know where one of the characters came from, no explanation. Just plain odd. Very disappointing because it started out so promising.

My first time with a game from this series, and spent a nice Holiday afternoon playing through to the end. Story line is enchanting as a family waits for Christmas, and goes through their town visiting places and people. Feels like you're in small town America from the days gone by. Hidden object are hide in plain sight and are somewhat challenging. They're followed by two other puzzles that are jigsaw or matching pairs, which are easier. None of the puzzles are timed, what a relief, but you can choose between casual and challenging. Great Holiday fun.

Mildly creepy music and Halloween-style tiles present a somewhat challenging game of several levels. The levels are based upon number of tiles removed, number of moves you need to make or come under, and number of points to be scored. The game will allow most people to get at least 2 out of 3 objectives, so that one doesn't become so frustrated that the game isn't fun. I never quite make all the points I should because there are so many tiles on the board and my eyes are concentrating on the strategic removal of the gold tiles. You get the points the faster you remove the tiles, but be careful you don't go over your allotted moves. Nice way to kill (in the spirit of the all Hallows) an evening or weekend.

Almost through with the game and am thoroughly enjoying this for a change. A story without ghouls and princesses, and kidnapped children in crumbling castles or asylums, etc. The game is mixture of hidden object and other puzzles, that I would say are a mixture of difficult and not so much, which makes the game enjoyable and not frustrating. The five tomes are remarkably different scenarios, each one an adventure in itself. The graphics are wonderful and the logic in the games is pretty well laid out, so you don't have to wonder how do I get there from here. Pleasant way to spend an evening or a weekend.
