I think I've played several games from this developer, and you really have to stick at it to advance on the levels. This game is more mahjong style than typical solitaire. You need to collect a certain number of points at each level deck hand to have enough points to move to the next level. If you don't, you'll have to replay the hands to find more gold cards. Only problem is that they don't tell you the minimum number of points that you need. You have to collect a significant number early in the level, and build up your $$ so that you can buy bonuses to help you advance through the deck and level. Not for the faint of heart, you have to keep at it. I wouldn't pooh-pooh it as much as some of the other reviewers, but if you keep at it, you'll get through it.
Love this game. You can spend hours you don't have wound up in it. This is a great strategy game as you have to collect objects throughout the game in order to make the road traveled easier, not harder. However, you have to gauge when to concentrate on clearing all the required red tiles vs. other tiles that contain the hidden objects you need. The only piece that I find confusing is the collecting of shields that you need to craft items that keep your horse going, which gives you extra moves. Background music contributes to the atmosphere, graphics are crisp, tiles are easy to see. Great game for all members of the family.
While the tiles may be on the smaller side compared to other mahjong games, if it's a challenge you're looking for, this is a good one. The game is not impossible, and the timer does give you plenty of time. I've found I use half of what they give you. There are bonus tiles to help you along and five shuffles. The undo button doesn't penalize you. Only issue is that if you need a hint, the hint button only works with the hint tile. But if you start a game, you'll note the time flies. Great way to spend an afternoon or weekend.

I've been a fan of the Edgar Allen Poe series, but this latest version began as creeepy (which is good) but then toward the end dissolved into "huh?" Who is "Paul"? Never explained. Who is the killer and why is he doing what he's doing? Never explained. It's as though the developer(s) lost track of the original Poe story and fumbled for an ending to this lost track, circuitous story line. It could have been great -- certainly the HO's were done quite well -- but they got lost in the convoluted story line. Meh! to this one.
The only thing I didn't like about this edition of Mahjong is that it doesn't tell you how many matched pairs are left. Otherwise, it's pure mahjong. No storyline, no goofiness, just for the fanatic. I'm using the tiles that are alphabet instead of the usual tile designs. Background music reminds me of "Enya". Just overall enjoyable. Some of the boards are easy, and others you need eyes going in all directions at once. The biggest challenge is not to use a shuffle. Easier said than done. Overall, great way to relax and spend an hour or two.
Wonderful graphics, challenging puzzles you can play timed or relaxed (but with number of moves you have specified.) Just when you think you solved one puzzle, you have 2-3 more, so use your moves and power-ups wisely. Nice background music as well. If you enjoy Holiday themed you can play all year round this is one of them. You should also try Spooky Bonus, another one with great ghoulish music, graphics and fun. Love this time of year.!
I've played many of these themed time management-skilled games for quite a while. You have the typical game's layout in the opening screens, the pieces, the objectives, the storyline, etc.; a pretty decent sense of where you're going, what commodities you need vs. what you have etc. , In this storyline, I've no clear idea where I'm at, where my next move is, what I need to do to achieve my objectives. While interesting, it lost me in the first 10 minutes, and I decided not to struggle to figure out next moves when there are other games more adept at translation.
You have to wonder sometimes, the minds behind these games. I would definitely put this into the psychological thriller, especially the first half hour to an hour. Not a game for children/tweens. The storyline is creative, with a new twist on demons. Anyone who grew up in the 50's/60's remembers the movie, "The Bad Seed", which must have spawned the main character.
After the first hour, the game maintains its creepiness, but in the blood and gore are kept to a minimum. More like fright night. The puzzles are not that difficult, because the creators want to keep the storyline moving and your involvement. All in all, great way to spend an afternoon or weekend.
I may be in the minority, but I love Mahjong, so I can put up with a lot more than maybe some other folks. The QC as far as spelling goes in the story line is awful, but the challenging Mahjong comes in the Mystery Challenge part. I played one Challenge about 14 times, because I refused to use a power-up or pendant. The level 8 is where people get stuck, and you have to have enough power-ups to get through it. You have to play all 7 levels and then go back and play them again to get the stars that get you the power-ups. It's kind of AC/DC. Not a well-thought out game in terms of logical progression, but there's enough here to keep you occupied on an afternoon.

What a refreshing change of pace. I haven't seen a sci-fi game like this for a long time. A nice mixture of today and the future, with an ending that is quite surprising. Puzzles are not that difficult and a nice mixture of HOPs to keep things interesting. The only part I didn't get was mixing the Wild West into the storyline. Other than that, enough to keep you interested with great graphics and a nice storyline.
