Eipix advertise themselves as world-builders and that certainly holds true in this thoroughly Norse outing. Enjoyable characters, great scenery and an intriguing storyline.
The good stuff includes the visuals, well-designed characters and some engaging puzzles as well as a respectable ending that leaves room for sequels (which are certainly implied by the title and the presence of more worlds to visit in the game). Kudos to the designers for not making us continually look for new tools (we got to use a knife twice after we'd sharpened it - any regular player knows how rare that is!).
The bad stuff includes popping banners, some overly sensitive hotspots (be EXACTLY on that spot or get a "try again" message) and a few too many locks and indents needing specifically shaped thingbobs to open or activate them. I know a little about Norse mythology, but if you don't some of the elements may not make a ton of sense (I doubt it will spoil the story though)
The pros definitely outweighed the cons and I'm looking forward to seeing what our Shield Maiden heroine gets up to next.
Recommended - but of course do try the demo before committing yourself as you may feel differently.
I recommend this game!

Been playing this for a while.
Nice visuals, easy to work out what to do and for the first four or five worlds, just what it set out to be - an agreeable five minutes here and there when I needed a spot of relaxation.
Not any more. Recent updates and changes have made the challenge of levels ridiculously high. Boosts needed to complete are very expensive. Rewards are very poor. It is neither fun, nor relaxing.
I know this is how the FTP model works, but some gain is needed for the players and at the moment what I'm getting is frustration.
Try it and see for yourself - I did enjoy it for many months, but this old friend is headed for the delete button.
The Surface series has produced some excellent games in the past, but for me, this is not one of them. Maybe I was just in the wrong frame of mind.
It starts promisingly, but gets confusing and illogical very fast. Note that "confusing and illogical" is standard for these types of games, but this was really not good. Inventory clutters up fast with random junk. Characters and storyline are not engaging. Visually a treat, but that is not enough to save it. Finally hit my "can't be bothered" point when I could not select the item I needed in a HoP despite the hint assuring me that yes, this was what I needed.
Try for yourself, but I would not recommend and regret this purchase.
There seems to be a lot of very mixed opinions about this one, but I really enjoyed it. The storyline entertained me no end. From everything I've been able to find out about the First Emperor, it's no stranger than the reality.
A good bit to do. Easy enough collectibles and morphs in HOs. One or two HO scenes a bit dark. Some of the puzzles were unclear and I ended up skipping a few. That's a personal thing - I'm either very good or very bad at puzzles,
Loved the graphics. Didn't play with sound on so can't comment on that.
I liked it and would recommend, but this seems to be one where you either do or you don't. Definitely demo before buying.
Myths of the World is a series I've enjoyed a lot - even the patchier episodes are entertaining. (Born of Fire and Clay was hugely frustrating for technical reasons, but I was enjoying the story).
Island of Lost Evil got them back on track for me. As a Brit, used to thinking of the Isle of Wight as the home of regattas and Queen Victoria's holiday palace, I found it hilarious that it was turned into the long lost home of Pandora's box infested by a vengeful centurian's ghost. It doesn't much matter though. The weather was suitably British and so were the accents. The rest of it could have taken place anywhere in Casual Game-land. On that subject, the constant rain and the general darkness made some objects tricky to find - a lot of it is quite murky to my eye.
I enjoyed the storyline, which is certainly no sillier than the majority and we're spared either a cute helper or red-eyed menace. It makes as much sense as you need and no loose ends get left in the main game. I have a minor gripe at the odd mixing of Greek and Roman mythology, but that's a personal purist thing.
HoGs were good. You have morphing objects to find in some of them (none in the main game). Some are interactive and all will be slightly familiar, but they are well done and remain nicely free of anachronism. The puzzles are well integrated and range from the comfortingly straightfoward to "what on earth do I do here?" In the latter case, the instructions are helpful.
All the other bells and whistles are as you'd expect. Lyres of Apollo to find in each scene (some are far from obvious). You can hunt for any you miss in the extras section, which I always appreciate. Bonus game adds about an hour of game play and sorts out what happens to one character. Souvenir Room sends you back to find an extra object in each scene. Not spectacular, but certainly good enough to be CE worthy.
This is a fine game and I enjoyed it a lot. It didn't for me, quite have the "wow" factor that makes a game 5 star, but others might find it does. In my mind, this is 4.5 stars worth of good entertainment.
Storyline looked as though it was going to be interesting, but faltered badly. Stonehenge was a great setting and the premise looked good - alas, not followed through in any remotely sensible way. I am aware this is a casual game and I'm not expecting Tolstoy, but I do need a story to make sense and this one didn't. Multiple characters to interact with does not a plotline make.
That was my main gripe. The actual gameplay is smooth and you can play match-3 if you don't fancy the HoPs. It's a very pretty game with nice effects and a lot to do and find although none of the (many) collectibles are particularly challenging.
The puzzles ... were OK. For my taste, too many of the "pull this and three other things move or light up" and far too much of the perennial irritation of having an item that makes perfect sense to use in your inventory and not being allowed to use it because it's either the wrong time or the wrong sort of sharp. Game developers please take note - having to find multiple variants on the same tool is not fun.
I enjoyed the game, but not as much as I wanted to and no doubt that made the irritants more irritating. A close to 4 star game which may be a full 5 star to a lot of others. I suspect I may just have been having a grumpy day.
This is a 4.5 star game in my book. It's a demented mash-up of steampunk and Victorian heroics which I thoroughly enjoyed. Decent characterisation, an involving story and hopefully the first of a series.
Why not 5 stars? Some of the scenes are very dark on my computer and there's no option to lighten things up. This made some of the HoGs needlessly frustrating. Puzzles were good but some of them were irritatingly long-winded (only my view and others may find them perfectly OK).
It may be a bit of a marmite game. I suspect some may love and others may find it all too dotty, but it caught me at just the right time and I had a blast. Give it try before you buy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one from start to finish. Lots of atmosphere, interesting characters and lavish environment. Good voiceovers too, which I don't normally mention. I usually play with sound off after the first five minutes as most soundtracks and character voices drive me crazy.
Now there are some downsides (perhaps, they're not things that worried me unduly). It's not the longest game out there. It is a decent length, just not super-long. Six good chapters. The bonus game is short, but solid. I enjoyed the storyline personally, but it won't be unfamiliar to any experienced casual gamer. The ending is reasonably conclusive in the main game but leads to the the bonus game fairly obviously, which may disappoint some. Not so sure about the ending to the bonus game. It seemed a touch ambiguous (which is probably the point).
Puzzles abound and I enjoyed them. HOPs were a mixture and included some FRoGs - I quite enjoy those and didn't find this burdensome. Some might. Mostly clear enough with occasional patches of dark which were often worth clicking on.
Despite the (to me, minor) flaws, it just suited me and may well suit you as well. Try and see.
Excellent game which looks as though it may become a series

This was mightily entertaining. A really solid piece of storytelling that moves along nicely and offers a decent ending with potential to go quite a bit further.
Graphics were quite gorgeous, really evoking the world and with a lot of detail, just begging you to click around. Since there are a ton of collectibles (some quite well hidden), clicking around isn't just an indulgence.
Not that keen on the voices, but it's not a huge issue and probably more a matter of taste. Good mixture of puzzles and well spaced HoG scenes as well. Bonus game is shortish, but fun and the main game is a decent length with good pacing. There is a lot of jumping around and the map was extremely useful in places as you often end up returning to some quite distant locations.
That is, in fact, one of my quibbles. There isn't a huge amount of logic at times. Leaping in and out of supposedly hard-to-reach areas in order to complete a quest did break the immersion a little.
Other reasons for not giving the great offering 5 stars? I found the interface a bit clunky at times, and had to resort to the hint (I hate doing that) when my cursor simply would not pick up a hot spot.
Overall a very good one, which I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend.
