This game has an actual storyline, the quality of sound and illustrations is very good, and it is pretty good in total. I am not really accomplished at some kinds of puzzles, but there is quite a variation here, so I wasn't unhappy. A matching game is available if finding the hidden objects gets too tedious. My only problem was that I couldn't determine what some of the objects were! I think beginners would like this game.
I agree with pennmom36. I usually read her reviews and I always start with the lowest reviews. Sometimes I disagree and enjoy the games anyway. But I'm an older lady and I don't want to waste my time with boring games. I have plenty of games that I have acquired over the years and I find myself replaying several favorites. This is the first game from this series that I have tried, but I could only take about fourteen minutes of the trial. There are better games out there. Try it for yourself.
I believe I have never wished so hard for a game to be finished, but I was determined to hang in there until the bitter end. The graphics are good, but very small even on my large screen. I was hoping for varied scenes, but they are repeated over and over and over... I think one of my major complaints is that I spent too much time searching for items that were misnamed. Look for a rooster, but that he is a she: a hen. A manhole is not a hole in the ground, but the cover. A jigsaw is actually a jigsaw puzzle piece. Sometimes a balloon is a balloon, but the same picture in the next puzzle is called a hot air balloon. Arrggh! This is something that I will never revisit.

Purchased on a BOGO day and played it straight through. I have a couple other games in this series. It actually does have a storyline, even if the characters are rather shallow. It isn't very intense although it has a warning at the beginning of the game. Maybe I'm not too sensitive, considering my age and the state of the country now. I play these games as an escape. Give it a try; if it doesn't appeal to you, don't buy it.

I sometimes wonder if I played the same game as some of the people who hated it. First, the color palette was great - no dominance of one color in all the scenes. My display was not garish or overpowered with purples. Maybe someone needs to adjust his/her monitor. Secondly, there were morphing items in one of the h.o. scenes - and this was in the standard game, not the collector's edition. My eyes are 75 years old, but I could still see the objects clearly. Some of the negative reviews were by "expert" players, of which I am not. This game seems to be geared more toward beginner players who would not find the puzzles and scenes redundant. I liked the graphics and the voices. My only complaint is the same as for most games not made by native English speakers: it is difficult to find items that are called something completely unrelated to their actual English names. As usual, try this game before purchase. I highly recommend it.

A relaxing game? No way. I made the mistake of playing later takes on the Laruaville franchise, then purchased the third one. I normally play the easiest version of games because I'm older and I want to enjoy them. Level 58 is the worst level because taking the fire to the frozen cells is nearly impossible, even after many, many, MANY tries. I am not the only one to bomb out on this level. Read the forum (if it still exists - many have been removed) and you will practically feel the frustration. The devs do answer - they say to just make combos next to the fire and it will follow. Not true, unless you make it on the correct side, whichever that happens to be. I'm not getting any younger trying to play this game, so it's the trash bin for this one.

Just played the demo, and first, I have to reply to gamergirl675 that it is not an error that some of the characters have four arms. If you read the Secret City History book at the beginning of the game, it describes the four races that are in the hidden cities. Lakrians are magicians with four arms, but you cannot see what these inhabitants really look like without help of some sort (eg: the magic glasses). Also, this game is not real life. If that is what you are looking for, this is the wrong site. All the games on Big Fish are pastimes, for fun, not education. That said, try the games for yourself and make your own decisions whether to play or not. I recommend this game.
Yes, I miss Elf also. (If you are new to the Mystery Trackers games, Elf is a little dog companion to the detectives, but not these young ones.) The artwork seems to be slipping from the original stories. I didn't have any problems with freezing or a jumpy cursor. Addressing the problem with the scrapbook in the very beginning of the game, you just have to notice the pictures in the tab on the upper right of the book: they show items and the numbers of them you need to find to progress. Simple, really. All in all, I prefer adult protagonists, and I'm not sure if two of the girls are a couple, but the story hints at that. The demo lasted only 25 minutes for me, and I am not a fast player. This game is probably better for beginners.
I got this game after playing the third in the series. The instructions are okay, but not as good as they could be. It does have an actual storyline and the graphics are quite nice. The only problem is that some obscenities are used. If this doesn't bother you, go for it. (Try Golden Rails: Road to Klondike, for a better experience.} I recommend this game.
I like bright, colorful games because of my eyesight. This game fits the bill. It has an actual storyline and you can choose to play an easy game if you are so inclined. You don't really need a strategy guide unless you are going straight for gold stars. Every section can be repeated until you get the result you want. All the owls are obtainable and the music is cheerful and unobtrusive. No glitches at all. I wholeheartedly recommend this game.
