Normally, I really enjoy the Mystery Case Files, but this one, The Black Veil, not so much. The story, as pointed out by several reviewers, did not make sense, even for this weird genre. Immortality must be compelling for many people, but not from my senior point of view. I thought the little boy would play a more prominent part, but that was not to be. The bonus games generally explain a little more of the background or delve into a character's reasons and sometimes make buying the collectors' edition worthwhile. I don't care about screen savers or the music, but I do value the guides. I purchase the games when there are good sales and so I am not too disappointed when they fail to measure up to my standards. I thought this game was well done technically, except that some of the puzzle pieces were in very dark places and almost invisible to my eyes. If the storyline had been more coherent, I would have given the game more stars. I recommend the game, with reservations.
I recommend this game!

I bought this game nearly a year ago, but apparently I never got around to finishing it. No great loss, since it probably was on sale at the time. I played it today, and it wasn't too bad...until I got to the bonus game. Let me just say that, "Eat the distruber" [sic] wasn't amusing. I like hidden objects and the mini games weren't too difficult. Yes, the lips don't move and the expressions never change, but quite a few games are like that. I really have issues with the bonus game. Yuck! This game went downhill very, very quickly. If you must buy it, I'd suggest you just stick with the standard version.
I don't recommend this game.

This is just a review of the trial, but I bought it today, on sale. I don't understand why some reviewers think the bear is ugly or hideous. It seems like a perfectly fine illustration. If people want realism, they should look at photos of the real thing. This is basically a fairytale, as are most of the games we play on our pcs. I appreciate the fact that the kitten helper meows and does not wear clothes or speak. This would be a good game for beginners, but experts may want to tax their brains with something else. I do like the voiceovers and the figures move with a semblance of realism (not perfectly, but who is perfect?) Try the game before dismissing it.
I recommend this game!

Played this last night, casually (as I first play new games). I think I would never be able to complete it on a more difficult level. I had to rely heavily on the hints and sometimes the guide, as I couldn't always follow the "logic" in the game. Creepy games don't usually bother me too much, but I have to say that the scenes with the Butcher really freaked me out! (And I still remember the movie, "Psycho" from my early teens, so I don't watch things like chainsaw murders or serious zombie movies!) I do have the other games in this series, so I will probably keep buying them! Try it for yourself, but be warned that the creepiest parts (in my opinion) don't come up in the trial.
I recommend this game!

This is a review of the trial. I have two other New York Mysteries, and this one is true to the series. The artistic style is very good - except that Laura's hair is still strange! I like the voices and her car! The story involves a supposed zombie, but the trial didn't get into that much. I don't mind easy puzzles, because I just play for my own amusement, not to beat any records. The one thing that does bother me though, is the fact that a box is locked with a padlock, but the hasp is fastened on the outside and is easily unscrewed! I see this in many games and it always aggravates me! Ignoring that and other inconsistencies, the game is still worth playing. It isn't difficult, so beginners might like it.
I recommend this game!

This review is based on the trial game. I am not an expert player, so maybe my expectations are different from those who are experts. I found this game entertaining (as entertaining as it could be, considering the fact that the protagonist is trying to stop murders). I, too, am a fan of Agatha Christie, although I read her mysteries many years ago, and I found them dated even in the sixties. This game has the usual hidden object scenes, with a few morphing items thrown into them. I don't understand the complaints about blurry images, because the graphics are very good. Regarding the questions about the electricity going off and on, that happens in real life. By the way, how is that a problem when needed articles are strewn all over the castle, rusted suits of armor open at a few drops of oil, jewels and ancient "magic" weapons are lying around, etc? This is a game and it bears little resemblance to reality. It's escapism, people. Not all of us want to spend a lot of precious time trying to figure out a really difficult puzzle. I say, if you are a beginning player or someone who just wants a short diversion, try this game. Who knows, you might enjoy it.
I recommend this game!

It took just 59 minutes to complete the easiest level of this demonstration. I have most of the Mystery Tracker games, and this one ranks high in my estimation, as far as I can tell from the trial game. The puzzles in this game were fairly easy and even the Rube Goldberg-type puzzle was simple (I usually have trouble with this type). The graphics were excellent for my old eyes and the audio was fine. I like the dog, Elf, who is obviously a Chihuahua, because he does not talk, unlike some of the helpers in other games. He is just a dog. As a matter of fact, the hint button is a frog who is wearing a tuxedo and glasses, and I find him more unlikeable than Elf! The hidden object scenes are clear and the storyline makes more sense than many other games. I hope this series continues, because there is always someone who hasn't played any of the games and he or she might enjoy the characters. Try this for yourself.
I recommend this game!

"Tears of the Fallen" is a big improvement over the original "Where Angels Cry"

Okay, so I didn't buy "Where Angels Cry". I decided to try it again, because I had 45 minutes of the trial left. I lasted only 11 minutes this time, because I was bored with the flat graphics. However, I tried "Where Angels Cry: Tears of the Fallen" in order to see if there was an improvement. Boy, was there! The graphics are great for me: bright and clear. I detest games that hide something in the dark at the top of the screen, and I only find it by clicking blindly. Not a problem with this game, so far. (This is only a review of the trial game, played casually.) Many times in games my cursor lags, so I usually play with my system cursor. There were no blank screens between cut scenes, so this may be a problem for some players and their pcs, but not for me. No lag in mini games either. As for the complaint about the storyline not being true to the 13th century, I believe people probably wouldn't be interested in a history lesson when they are playing for entertainment. Modern items in hidden object scenes are nothing new for the genre, and I am just happy that I didn't notice many (ugh) snails. As for the old "circular wheel" form of items to locate and use, this is probably appealing to many players. Not everyone is a long-time player of these games, so you can't assume that any form is boring and "old hat" to all. The one thing I would like to point out: In a letter to the village headman, the inquisitor says he is looking for Miguela, a "fowl" creature! I do believe she is not a bird!
I recommend this game!

At first glance (and in the trial period), this seemed like a game for children. I liked the cartoony characters and the bright colors. The story-telling episodes were quite attractive in that they looked like wood block prints. However, the graphic illustrations of stabbing or chopping people were too much, especially if children would be playing this game. Also, I can't say I liked the map. There was no jump feature that I could find, and the game had so much backtracking that it got to be tedious. I did like the option of choosing which outcome should occur for certain situations (and I did not choose wisely on a couple of occasions). All in all, this game was okay, but not outstanding. I still think everyone should try it before making a decision.
I recommend this game!

I bought this one on sale and I'm glad I waited. I really like the games from this developer, but this one has a few problems. You should try this one before buying, and I also suggest checking the forums - some people apparently have problems with freezing. I didn't have that problem, but sometimes the puzzles had no instructions in the main game, yet they did have instructions after the bonus game, when they can be replayed. The plot is pretty convoluted and the hint system is not the best. One major warning: if you have a problem with nudity, there are many nude female statues in the game (apparently because the victim is rich and an art collector). I enjoyed this one, to a point, and I will probably play it again in a few weeks.
I recommend this game!
