An OK game, but way too short. The puzzles were easy. This is one of those HOG's where you have to find objects to pick up another object. It is not a fractured HOG, where you pick of pieces of items, so it is better.
This game is a FROG, my least favorite type of HOG. I really don't like finding "pieces" of items. The pieces that need to be found are very hard to see because they are often not the same color or in the same position as the picture of the piece shows.
The storyline was good, except for the extra play at the end, which had little to do with the original storyline and actually contradicted it. The game never did tell where the grandfather went, even though that was alluded to in the extra play description.
The puzzles were easy. I did encounter 2 new types of puzzles that I had never seen before, which was interesting.
The game has a map, but it is not interactive, so you cannot use it to change locations. It showed two icons, one for current location and a different one for areas of interest. However, the icon for areas of interest were few and far between. Even when it appeared to be one, I could not find it on the map. The map added little or nothing to the game except confusion.
The hint button worked good in the HOS, but was useless otherwise. It did nothing to tell you where you needed to go next.
Thankfully the strategy guide was built into the game, and I had to refer to it often to figure out where to go next. This is very annoying to me in a game.
It was a very long game particularly with my frustration with the FRO. I'm not recommending it because I don't like this type of HOG and because the movement through the game was so confusing.
I played in the casual mode as I get frustrated easily and these games are supposed to be fun to play. This game is the kind of HO that I think is called "fractured"? The scenes are not junk piles. but you have to find certain objects that come up in a circle in order to be able to pick up another object. Not my favorite type of HOG but this was OK. There was too much back and forth between scenes for me to be really happy with the game. I like more linear play, where you can finish a scene and not have to go back. These kinds of games that require you to revisit locations over and over would sure benefit from a user-friendly map. Thankfully the hint button could be used to figure out where to go next. I usually know where I need to go but can't always remember how to get there, after going back and forth so many times, I get lost easy.
The puzzles were varied and some of them hard enough for me to have to skip. Or, maybe not hard for some, but not the kind I am good at.
All in all, I enjoyed the game and the extra play fit well into the storyline.
I recommend this game!

Escape the Emerald Star
You awake to find your cruise ship abandoned and in disarray. Can you track down all the fragments of a map and escape the ship?
There is really no story line in this game. It is just HOS after HOS. There are 25 levels of play, with anywhere from 3 to 8 HOS within each level. The scenes repeat but with different objects to find each time. Collect 50 anchors to unlock unlimited play at the end. After each level you must solve a puzzle to collect a clue to be able to escape the ship at the end. The puzzles are easy and rotate among jigsaw, remove tiles, rotate or swap pieces to reveal a picture. The escape at the end was a nice touch and I always enjoy going back to all the scenes to find all the objects. A good game to keep your HOG skills sharp.
The detailed description of this game indicated that there was an integrated strategy guide. I did not see that available at all. I played the expert mode so maybe that was why the strategy guide was not available. The hint button only worked in the HOS. I could click the hint button at other times, but the information it gave was completely useless. I had to refer over and over to the walk through to figure out where to go next, which is just unacceptable. The hint button at least should point you in the right direction. I also skipped a few puzzles when I got tired of guessing and really didn't want to go to the walkthrough to figure out how to solve them. However, there was one puzzle where the walkthrough didn't help at all. This game was too frustrating at the expert level for me to give it a good review.
I played this game under the Expert mode. This game had a lot of HOS but a lot of the objects were incredibly small. There was some back and forth between locations that annoys me but the hint button was a quick way to find out where to go next. The game did freeze up on me a couple of times. Overall an enjoyable game, though somewhat short. Would like to see the sequel.
Lots of HOS and puzzles. Puzzles weren't too hard, but some of the objects in the HOS took some searching. I even had to use some hints. Good game for kids too. Great graphics.
I recommend this game!

The Secrets of Arcelia Island
Unravel The Secrets of Arcelia Island as you, your father, and a small crew set off on this dangerous expedition!
This was an interesting game, although the ending was a little confused. I played the harder version. I only had to use the walkthrough once for one puzzle, although I did skip a couple of puzzles because even though I knew what I had to do to solve them, I was impatient at the amout of time I was using to try to guess the solution. This game did have a lot of back and forth between locations, so an interactive map would have been a plus. I didn't find all the puzzle pieces, so I was unable to complete that part of the game. The hint button was excellent.
Definitely geared for beginning players, particularly children. Great graphics and kind of gets you into the Christmas spirit. Lots of HOS and simple puzzles. Not too long and scenes were varied so it didn't get boring.
