I didn't expect too much from this game but once I started playing it I got hooked. Great graphics, a good story to follow, not too many HOS to interfere with the flow of the game, over 8 hours of gameplay, an interactive map, good voiceovers, and lots of good puzzles. Really enjoyed this game and it's rare I give 5 star ratings in all four categories but this game deserves it. I played in casual mode and didn't need the hints or strategy guide too much, but it's also challenging enough with a big play area to explore. Highly recommended!
This developer never disappoints me. It's a spooky well-designed long game that is lots of fun to play. You'll rarely see a HO game with so few HO scenes and lots of puzzles and colorful scenes to explore. The creative types of locks that the game designer has come up with alone put this game well above average. Only 2 minor faults: no interactive map and no Blog Walk-through (but you can find one online). Now I'm going to go get the first game which I'm sure will be just as much fun.
I recommend this game!

So I just finished Level 41 and thought I'd write a review for those thinking of buying this game. It's as much fun as the first two, and there is a real story line in this game (the King is challenged by a Swindler for the crown) and the more levels you play, the more votes the King gets back. It's a fun game but they didn't add enough new features. Some of the levels are downright boring because the goal to finish the level is more of a bogus goal than one you'd want to aim for. It's basically more of what you got in the first two games, and I haven't hit bonus levels yet but I'm getting bored with it.
Help Flavius expand the Roman Empire! Haggle with shopkeepers, collect supplies, build bridges and more in this exciting time- and resource-management adventure!
I'm surprised these guys put out a game this simple and yet so frustrating. It's repetitive in terms of the gameplay at each level and the only real challenges are finding the hidden star, which could be anywhere, and the clock. You need to repeat tasks so many times that you run out of time. After Adelentado, Roads of Rome and Viking Saga, I expected better from these guys.
I've now played 13 levels and gotten 3 stars on them all, but it wasn't easy. This game is my third favorite game by this developer behind Adelentado and Roads of Rome, and to compare, is probably most like Roads of Rome. Help Ingolf and his viking buddies conquer challenges on each level to break the curse of the ring. Build farms for food, sawmills for wood, houses to collect rent, and get help from the druid along the way. I'll only play the timed version because I like the challenge of the game. There are video walkthroughs to help posted on youtube. A simple way to say this is if you like the other time management games this developer makes, you'll love this one.
The game is almost the same as Trade Mania 1. The three new cities are Vancouver, San Francisco and Moscow. The upgrades are you can now build factories (which give you a fixed income with every turn you take) or a supermarket (sell your products at higher prices) in addition to hotels. You actually need to use factories because my opponent in Level 1 had them, and I only built hotels and I lost. There are also 2 casino spaces where you can play roulette to win or lose money. But here is the bug- in playing level 2 (San Francisco), I bought out the weakest competitor within an hour, bankrupted the second weakest in less than another hour, and then went head to head with my main opponent. I made sure to buy up the auctioned properties that my weaker opponents were forced to sell when they lost. The goal is to have 80% of the property to win this level. I had 14 properties, almost all fully built out, to 7 for my opponent, which gave me 65% of the total property. I then played for over an hour to buy out 25% of my competitor but nothing changed. I played for another hour to accumulate enough cash to buy out another 25%, which should have won the game for me because 50% of his 35% of the property in addition to the 65% I had gives me 82.5% of all the property but nothing changed. My opponent maintained his 35%, and got the same income from his factories and I had to play for a full 8.5 hours to get enough cash to buy out the remaining 50% of my opponent. Thus, I needed 100% of the property, 65% that I had owned plus the 35% of my opponent's to win. I liked the game, but after 8 hours of going around the board buying step cards, collecting rent and buying and selling goods, the game gets repetitive and boring. Not sure if I want to attempt level 3 where 90% of the property is the goal with this bug in the game.
The game developer has raised the bar for HO/Adventure/Puzzles games with the 3 Surface games. I own them all, but I finished this game first because it's the best of the three and wish I'd gotten the CE. This game has everything games of this genre you could want: excellent graphics, crisp HOS, challenging and original mini-puzzles, real actors in the character roles, a good storyline, an interactive map and more. There are 4 chapters, each of which takes 1 to 1.5 hours to play in casual mode. Hint button takes a minute to refresh and is good enough so that a Strategy Guide or walk-through isn't required. I played this game quickly and will now go and finish The Soaring City game. Hope Elephant gives us more like this one.
I liked this game from the start...and then I hit a snag with a puzzle and got stuck. There are only a few game walkthroughs online, but I finally figured out the puzzle. This developer always makes good games, and there is a solid storyline here that kept me playing for a good 5 hours. There is a map but it's not interactive. The HINT button refreshes very quickly and there are lots of scenes and good HOS scenes as well. You move around the scenes to figure all of the puzzles, which are also good. The game has good graphics, but because of the storyline is a bit gloomy. I'd still recommend it, but there are some better games of this genre.
I bought this game after finishing another game by this developer that I loved. This one is not as good, and it's because it's too easy and short. It is a Hidden Object / Adventure game, and each level starts with opening a painting. There are 5 levels and a bonus level. The game shouldn't really be a CE game because I didn't need the strategy guide and used the Hint button infrequently. It is a very colorful and well done game...tailored more toward a beginner of games of this genre. I still recommend it because I had fun playing it.
Based loosely upon the book and movie "Perfume", the storyline is about catching a killer of young women in Paris, while collecting scents, creating fragrances that are used in the game, and of course, hidden object scenes and mini-puzzles. Even though the storyline is morbid, as are many games of this genre, so many are dark and gloomy. This game is bright and colorful...and also addictive, because once I started playing it, I kept going in my spare time until I finished it. The hidden object scenes are easy, and the hint button, which recharges quickly is useful in navigation. I didn't use the Strategy Guide too much, but I did like the interactive map, which tells you where there are things to do. A nice lengthy and interesting game and bonus chapter as well.
