When your daughter, Emily, is taken over by a mysterious force, you must travel to the Nightmare Realm to search for a cure. But nothing could have prepared you for what you find there…
Fabulous! Great follow up to the first Nightmare Realm. The story picks up when Emily is 17. It was intriguing and kept me wanting more. I loved the graphics. Everywhere and everything was beautiful and creative. The few HOS were clear, not too cluttered and interactive. There was a good balance of tasks, puzzles and HOS. Again we got to collect origami. I personally adore collectibles, especially in an SE. The map showed available tasks. It was not for travel but there was little back and forth. The story and gameplay were integrated well. An original tale with a good ending. Great fun.
This is a decent mystery game. Good graphics and a solid story line. I was reluctant to try because some reviews claimed there were too many HOS. There were quite a few, your typical junk pile and not as quick as I would have liked but I didn't find they overwhelmed the game. Puzzles and mini-games were fun and moderately difficult. There was a map indicating active tasks and the Hint is always helpful if needed. However, without a jump map there was a lot of back and forth. There was an additional feature which is unique. You actually collect and organize evidence to develop deductions. That adds an interesting aspect to what is an otherwise typical game. Not bad though. Entertaining.
This wasn't a bad game but a few things disappointed me. The graphics were fine and I really liked the story line. Puzzles were OK, average difficulty. However, there were entirely too many HOS. The only reason I finished was because they were easy enough to get through quickly. There wasn't a map and there was some wandering. The Hint button helped with navigation. My biggest regret was buying the CE. I didn't feel the extras were worth the additional money. I look for collectibles and achievements and it did not have either. It did have a bonus chapter. Don't get me wrong I think it deserves attention (especially if you're a fan of HOS). I enjoyed it overall. Despite my peeves it still got 4 stars.
I didn't care for the first Dark Parables I played, Curse of Briar Rose, mainly because I don't usually like the fragmented HOS and am easily disoriented and would have liked a map or a directional hint. However, after reading the reviews for this game and learning they had changed a couple things (map and Hint) I thought I'd give it a shot. And I'm really glad I did. The story was captivating right from the onset. The graphics were quite stunning. I even found the HOS pleasant, very clear and not too difficult for this style. Another perk for me is looking for collectibles (although I missed quite a few morphing objects), which is something I normally look for in a CE and am thrilled when I find them in an SE. There could have been more puzzles and less HOS (especially toward the end) but that's my only complaint. A unique twist on a fairy tale that's completely entertaining. Terrific!
I had a blast playing this game. It had a twisted story which I love. Immediately after you sign your lease for a room, things go from strange to bizarre. Now you want to leave but you're alone and locked in...and you're off! The graphics were good, typical ERS. But one of the nicest parts for me was no HOS. I like them, but sometimes they dominate a game and I honestly did not miss them here. Puzzles were plentiful, easy and I finished them all (not normal for me). Not having a map was fine as items were often used soon after being found and the usual back and forth was limited. And I can't forget the cat hologram that helped with some of those hard to get objects. Granted this game was not the most challenging but it sure was fun.
I really liked this game. It was rather sad as others have mentioned but it was interesting. The graphics are decent. Gameplay was moderately challenging but I thought it could have been better entwined with the story. HOS were pretty typical but some of the puzzles were a little different. The puzzle instructions were basic diagrams rather than statements but they are easy enough to figure out. I like puzzles But I am not always very adept at doing them. I managed to get through almost all of them. There wasn't a bad balance but I think it was a little heavy on HOS. I also liked finding a mask in each scene. There is some travelling back and forth with no benefit of a map but the Hint is helpful. And it's a good length. Good game. I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this game. I don't usually care for fragmented HOS but I didn't find this one so bad. However, the graphics were bright and colourful but very busy. It's almost overwhelming. It was a nice change that the majority of the items collected were not your typical objects but appropriate to the game. There was also alot of good story here, told through narration, characters (good voice acting) and some great little movie sequences. I really liked that. You are able to travel to different locations but there is no map within those locations. It wasn't needed. If stuck, the Hint is very helpful. The whole game was of moderate difficulty. There were few puzzles but some were unique. It was different from a lot of games I play but it had lots to see, lots to do and it was lots of fun.
This is the first Dark Tales I have played and for the most part I enjoyed it. Of course it's a great story but I didn't think gameplay was much different than several other games. There is no map or Hint besides the HOS but the travelling wasn't that bad. Everything tends to flow forward. Some of the puzzles were a challenge but most were moderately difficult. Really I had no complaints until approaching the end. First there was several misnamed items in the HOS and way too many of them jammed into the last quarter of the game or so. I found myself losing interest and was glad when it concluded. Others seem to really like these games and think it's definitely worth trying. I'm sure this is only the first I will play of the series.
I almost overlooked this little gem. This game is kid friendly but don't let that scare you away. I had a great time playing this one even though is not normally what I look for. However, sometimes I just want short and simple. If you're looking for a challenge or a shiver you should look elsewhere but if you like a fun, unique story and straight forward gameplay, here you go. There isn't any map or active hint button outside the well done HOS but there really isn't any need. Some of the puzzles were innovative, all were do-able. Good graphics (no voice-overs) and an entertaining if not silly story. Try it out, sit back, relax and maybe have a little chuckle.
I'm sorry to say I found this game to be painfully average. The graphics were alright but much too drab and brown. The story could have been more developed during gameplay. Puzzles were fairly easy. There were way too many HOS for me. There is no map but the Hint helps. Really nothing special stood out. Boring.
