I find the objects a bit too hard to find for real enjoyment, but the extra wands help, and the real selling point for me is that when you use a hint you can choose which item to use it on. Relaxed mode option is also a plus.
Embark on an epic journey across the Chinese Empire and build the greatest structure known to mankind - The Great Wall of China - in this exciting time management game.
Sorry developers - I really disliked this, largely because of the way the cards constantly jiggled as the curser went over them. This kind of thing also puts me off Match 3 games, it's distracting and tiring!
Seven different Mahjong games which keep coming round in the same order, but what I particularly like is that you can easily go back to a favourite level at any time - just hover your curser over the list of levels and it tells you what they are. Untimed - hooray! Quite challenging - I bought it as soon as I finished the trial hour because in that time I had only finished 5 levels and I wanted to see what others there were. Would have been 5 stars if the art work was better - the backgrounds are nothing special and the main tile set has the grey grubby look which unfortunately seems to be common in Mahjong games at the moment.
Exquisite artwork with beautifully detailed HO scenes and very nice dissolve effect when moving between scenes. Rather slow match 3 minigames - you have to click on both tiles to swap rather than drag one, and wait for cascading to finish before making another move. This wouldn't bother me if there weren't quite so many of these minigames. Possible glitch (?) - I exited the game twice during the 1 hour trial, the first time I went back the game started from the beginning again. The second time I resumed it had saved my new progress. Visually comparable to the Awakening series but lacking complexity of gameplay and variety of minigames. 4 stars because of the artwork, otherwise just 3. I'll probably get this using a free game code rather than being in a hurry to buy.
What I really like about Midnight Mysteries is the option to see a silhouette of objects in the to find list, and the sometimes quirky descriptions of them - a croaking jumper for a frog, tool with teeth for a pitchfork etc. The story has unexpected twists when an action triggers an eerie event - fun rather than scary, so that I want to continue playing to find the next one.
Some games which unlock an "unlimited" seek and find after you have found a certain number of a special objects, or completed the story, turn out to unlock only certain scenes with limited objects. Having found sufficient stamps to unlock this game's unlimited mode I discovered 28 locations with 50 objects in each, and with picture clues rather than a list - great! This game will join my other favourite HOs, the Amazing Adventures, Escape, and Mystery PI series.
The first Steve the Sheriff had far too many spot the difference minigames for me - didn't even finish the trial, but the second in the series is just really nice to look at and great fun. Never seen such long lists of objects to find, but most are fairly easy to find, just a few gave me a bit more challenge or needed a hint. I really like the investigation bits - bubbles containing objects to find appearing round Steve's head. Looking forward to Steve the Sheriff 3 if it's like this!
I struggled with this game at first, but it's so beautiful and original I kept trying. Now that I've got the hang of bringing the black stones together it's become a real favourite!
