I was ready to give it five stars as the idea of having to hunt for items all over the place, instead of digging though HO piles is a welcome change of pace, as is the ability to rotate 360 degrees.
Loved the characters, specially the talkative mummy.
But the minigames had no skip button. I got stuck on the last minimgame and could not do anything about it.
So I am going to asume that Annabel finds the amulet, the bad guy is vanquished and they all live happily ever after,.
I loved it until then, so the three stars.
Maybe you'll be able to beat the last puzzle. Or will not mind imagining the ending. So enjoy until thenl.
Of all the picross games out there this is the best
Reasons:
There is a nice pale background that lets you see what is filled and what is not. No danger of being confused.
Highlingtin what row/column you are in, so you cannot make mistakes filling the wrong one.
Ease of swittchinb between full and empty cell markins
Counter of how many cells are filled, or are trying to fill, either as filed, or empty.
This makes sure that the only mistakes you make are faulty logic ones.
The puzzles go from very easy to real tough. And if you think that a 10X10 puzzle can't be tough, think again.
On top of that the mosaics are beautiful to look at, when laid side to side. And as an added beauty bonus you get to create museum exhibits from different cultures. The story line is not much, but holds your attention, and it has nice tone and humor to it.
This is a fun management game. The challenges are tough, but doable. You can repeat the levels if you just got a silver star and want the gold. You have to decide what to do next (a good strategy is to play one try to see where the bottlenecks are, and then plan how to avoid them)
The tone is good natured wth a sense of humor - the mythology is a bit tweaked, but then if is fun...
If you think that selling fish is not much of a challenge, think again. Between switching tanks and keeping them clean, and making fish are fed (do not put ciclids with others or they will eat them), this game keeps you on your toes. That you get to see the fish grow and show their beautiful colors is a plus.
There is a relaxed mode, but still it is tough there, because if you go over your time limit you do not get your reward for your tanks.
I did dislike the game. I liked it until I got stuck at level 7.
This is a serious issue, which needs to be addressed, which is giving gamers challenges taht are unrelated to the kind of game it is, that cannot be skipped, and that may be beyond thier abilities.
I refer to games that require fast response and manual dexteriity. There are plenty of gamers who love those challenges and are good at them, and there are gamers who lack quick responses or manual dexterity for a lot of legitimate reasons.
This is not a technical issue, it is a minigame that is necessary to solve to reach the next level. To include it for people who just CANNOT do it, makes it a waste of time and money.
When we get time management/resource management games we expect the chalenges to be abou time magement and resource management. There may be otehr minigames, but they can be either optional and/or skippable. That they are not, means that they think that ALL gamers have the neessary manual dexteriity and quick response time (and a responsive mouse). This is disrespectful for us who do not.
So, if you have the dexterity and speed, go ahead. For you it will be anice game, For the rest, who lack the proper reflexeds, it is a slap on the face.
This game got me in the first scene, with the dialog. I just loved the guy.
It is a sim game, with a storyline that is advanced as more items are unearthed in the dig. In the meantime workers have to be hired, fed, and housed, and this all takes time. You may earn a grant by digging out certain items, but most of the money comes from delivering special flowers to the storyteller, and that takes some time. Workers have to expand their skills, and this only happens through experience. And in the meantime the old story gets told, as sell as the contemporary one until the last secret is unearted and the sotry reaches its conclusion.
Other workers have their own romances going, and sometimes they will be happy, and sometimes heartbroken.
This is a fun resource game. For me it was a bit of a letdown because the weird, interesting characters just stood there, every now and then asking for a quest, and the workers were interchangeable.
I loved the flying pigs and the unkonwns and knighst.
It irritated me that when I pulled a worker from its corner I did not know what it had been doing, and thus did not know if I should leave them alone or return them to their previouls task (if you drag them to eat and there is no food they will go collect mushrooms - and keep collecting them until you pull them away) Also you have to keep feeding them constantly.
This game gets more and more inventive at each installment. The way they handle HOGs is probably the most unusual. Not only they are interactive, but also you have to switch back and forth between scenes.
The mingames are also inventive. The storyline continues Sophia's saga.
Since the story does not end yet, we may be looking at a new, more inventive game soon.
