Although I DID enjoy the storyline....at least this game had one....that kept me moving forward wanting to know more...I felt that that was the 'only' redeeming factor in the game. Yes....you have a 'very' helpful jump map that shows areas of interest plus a journal & the 'tapes' that you pick up throughout the game to give you further insight into what is going on.....BUT that's about IT! Well....except for the 'masks' that you collect.....2 for each scene....and it shows you right there on your left hand side whether you have collected them or not. The HOS are pretty standard for todays games....lists, or finding numerous objects of the same kind 'silhouette'. The puzzles came with VERY vague instructions....so much so...I was glad of the SG.....which was little to no help in this area. I completed the 'Bonus' game....because that's just me......and sure enough it ended leaving us to expect 'another' Nightfall Mystery on the horizon. I don't think that THIS player will be trying to solve it!
Without warning, a group of mysterious figures arrives and reduces your village to flames and rubble. What do they want... and who is controlling them?
This developer has really outdone themselves with this one!
Fantastic Graphics, interesting puzzles (and not too easy to do) interactive HO scenes and rather pleasing background music!
They have given you a 'Jump' Map, a 'Journal' that keeps track of what is happening and what you have to do and some little 'extras' to help with your journey!
I opted for the SE....because I didn't want to be sidetracked by worrying about 'collecting' morphing this & that and whatever else was extra. Believe me....the storyline is enough to keep you immersed and VERY busy!
After reading some of the reviews I was on the fence with this one as I really don't like 'gimmicky' games. But I DO like this series and thought I would give it at least a try.
And BOY am I glad that I did!
ERS are the 'Masters' of creativity......hands down!
Yes, the game does have a LOT going on but that is what makes it so interesting.....at least to this player.
The HO scenes are an interesting mix and the puzzles are fun to do without you wanting to tear your hair out. I love the idea of putting the map together so that you can progress to the next scene. And all the information or misinformation #as the case may be# about Da Vinci just added to the storyline for me.
Obviously a lot of thought and work went into the making of this game......the little background sounds of howling dogs and birds chirping right down to the beautiful graphics.
I would say that the CE is a MUST, just to have the SG handy for those parts you are not too sure of but as usual it's always a personal choice.
For me.....this game will probably go down as one of my all time favorites.....and that's saying a lot!
Thank you Developers and BFG for bringing us this one.
This review is based on 'demo' only but it's a 'buy' for me!
You start off receiving a phone call from an asylum for help from a 'mysterious' caller. Upon investigating you witness him jumping #?# out of a window. And you're off to start the investigation.
You have a Journal which contains your objectives, the clues you'll come across and the people that you meet. Be sure and read it! You will 'pick up' a map that is transportable and shows where you have actions that need to be completed.
Now, on to the game itself......the HO scenes are an interesting mix, you have the option to play Mahjong instead if you wish. You come across this somewhat 'creepy' puppet that when you pull on it, it gives you cryptic messages.
In one scene I had to find 9 clues which I had to assemble in order of the sequence of events in which they happened. The items glow 'orange' when placed in the right spot for those who want to know.
Inventory 'seems' to be used in a logical way and quickly and I found that the game progressed quickly.
I found this game to be 'wickedly' funny and the written dialogue just adds to the game. You HAVE to read what they are saying in order to get the 'jist' of the story.
Yes, the characters are 'cartoonish' but that is all part of the charm!
The 'puzzles' that I came across were different & fun to do. In some you are asked a series of questions and you have to give the 'best' answer. Now, here's where there is a problem...at least for me.
You get a camera and you have to fill it with film. If you give a wrong answer on the puzzle, then it takes so many rolls of film before you can answer that question again and thus progress with that particular person. Getting the rolls of film is NOT easy. They 'pop' up quickly and disappear just as quickly....not really giving you time to move your mouse over them.
As the 'puzzles' are the 'brain-teaser' types it is easy to make a mistake and you can end up needing several rolls of film.
I really enjoyed the game, except for this one little 'quirk'! So for me it won't be a buy, unless the developers can 'correct' this by slowing it down.
But try it.....maybe you're quicker and it is a really fun, lighthearted little game!
This review is based on playing approximately half of the game....which I have thoroughly enjoyed up until this point.
You can 'always' count on ERS to turn out a 'good' game with stunning visuals, lots of 'fun' puzzles to do and interactive HO scenes....which I happen to like.
This is the 4th game in the series....and I sort of got the impression that the developers rushed through it. The puzzles are NOT well explained. At least I had to resort to the SG for guidance on a couple of them.
Also, the map does NOT show you where you have something to do UNLESS you actually 'click' on that area.
For a CE, I don't think that this should be necessary.
But all in all...these are 'minor' annoyances and the game is good...with an interesting storyline that makes you want to keep moving forward so I DO have to recommend that you at least give it a try!
After a somewhat 'slow' start...I started playing the game again today #just to see if it was worth continuing# and was totally drawn into it.
Dr. Samuel Thomson is the protagonist that you just can't help following around to see what he is up to next. And he has a LOT going on! The Developers put a lot of thought into the making of this game and it shows. You have puzzles that open up into HO scenes that are interactive. They are all fun and not TOO hard to do. The colors are very vibrant...not your washed out purple & pinks. You do have a 'harlequin' helper that you acquire early on whose role seems to be to 'help' put those broken pieces that you occasionally come across back together for you. In turn, you can 'furnish' her 'boudoir' with 'masks' that you find throughout the game. You are also give 'help' in the areas that you visit by the grateful inhabitants. This accounts for the 'question mark' sequence in your 'hint' button. I found myself eagerly moving forward wondering just what was around the next corner.......it seems to be a very fast paced game. And the interactive jump map is handy if you wish to use it but I didn't find too much to and fro, so really didn't need it.
Thank you Developers and Big Fish Games for bringing us this one and on a 'Sale' weekend at that!
After being 'shut out' less than hour into a 90 minute demo...'time was up' ....I really didn't get a 'feel' for the story.
This is a Developer that I really like and I have both of their other 'Fierce Tales' but with this one I think that I will wait for the SE to come out.
In the time that I did get to play I didn't see anything that would recommend it as a CE.
Yes....they have an interesting and interactive way of doing HO scenes and the couple of 'puzzles' that I came across were good. The graphics ARE superb! You feel that the 'leopards' are really looking at you and the colours are vibrant. But....like I said I just didn't get enough of the storyline to know if it was going to be a 'buy' for me or not. I recommend that you try it first and decide for yourself.

PuppetShow: Lightning Strikes Collector's Edition
The women of Paris are being turned into puppets! Can you find out who's pulling the strings?
If you are looking for a relaxing, fun game with excellent graphics, innovative puzzles, interactive HO scenes and not a lot of to and fro-ing then this is the game for you!
I definitely think that they have a 'winner' here with this one.
The storyline is plausible and easy to follow. Your inventory seems to be quickly used, not just sitting there forever. The game is very linear, which I appreciate. I have enough challenges in my life. I don't need to play games to get them.
I like the idea of 'collecting' the piggy banks, which I'll admit are not hard to find and then being able to repair a 'World Icon' ie 'The Eiffel Tower' and later the 'Statue of Liberty' with the coins earned. It's just an added extra that doesn't take away from the game play like so much searching for 'morphing' this and that seems to.
All and all....well done Developers and thank you BFG for bringing us this one!
I recommend this game!

I must have been playing a different game than some of the 'reviewers' because I could hardly wait to finish the main game and get this 'thing' off my computer. I didn't even bother with the 'Bonus Chapter'.....it was that bad!
I'm not sure how 'witch hunting' under the 'full moon' comes into the storyline because I was so confused by ALL the running back & forth doing mindless little 'chores' just so I could restore the mirror and get 'Granny' out from under the 'rain'! And then....all she has to say is that she needs to go to the hairdresser?! Give me a break! Between the endless HO scenes that were SO easy to do and the puzzles that were even easier this game definitely does not live up to current CE status!
