Overall: Intro characters were cartoon like and not well designed, wasn’t sure if detective was riding a dog or a horse. At the start, it appears to take place in current time, but that becomes confusing, time line isn’t all that clear. A princess has been missing for 100 years and two sisters acting as her royal guards are looking for her, they appear childlike and cartoon like in appearance wearing old time attire and both showing off acrylic nails! Really! So it seems that our detective transports back 100 years? A wild-eyed man appears and bounds off to reappear with no clue, but apparently he is bewitched. Ominous butterflies that turn you into salt, a frog prince and maybe a rabid bunny! Sure enough, when I got to the bunny inlay it says “turn not your fangs upon us” Monty Python reference? After the hour trial, I just shook my head…another Eipix disappointment. Nothing new in design, development or even in story…save the princess, save kingdom, etc. I’ll let others fill in more details, because it was all over the place, back and forth, numerous objects to inlay, numerous scenes, multiply inventory items that were rather small and unclear, yet on a positive side there were more Hidden Object games than Mini Games so far.
Graphics are bright in some scenes and exhibited poor textural design while other scenes were very well done, close ups are beautifully detailed and designed. Scenes are numerous and occasionally jump to unexpected locations? Sounds became annoying when scrolling over inventory as well as over scenes. I just turned the music down. Hidden Object Games were pretty much identical, find jewel pieces to complete a jeweled inlay or a required jeweled object, however all were well-designed and detailed. Mini Games were predictable, the first one childish and horrible, just skipped, others rotate, maze type, etc., nothing new or innovative. At first, not sure if this was the Salt Princess or the Frog King story, but apparently they combined three parables, two from the past, the third one something to do with a prior Moon story line. Give it a test run to see if you enjoy the game play. Sadly, I didn’t and I will not purchase this one. I will recommend it because it has multiply tasks and scenes to stay busy.
Overall: I thought I was supposed to be playing a Hidden Object Game. WRONG! This is primarily a Mini Game focus. Another old jungle story with some alien? stuff tossed in for good measure? Just not new or original.
Poor intro. If you are going to intrigue people to play the game, you really need to impress them from the start. Sylvia is brushing sand on the ground, but the brush doesn’t touch the ground and then two feet float towards her inches above ground. Really!
Shades of Tomb Raider without the excitement or action! Very badly crafted story and where has originality gone? It just gets worse from here. An overabundance of Mini Games pops up just about every other step of the way to the point that this isn’t a Hidden Object Game, but primarily a Mini Game focus. I think they used every form of Mini Game available and this was a one hour trial.
Hidden Object Games were well designed with detail but cluttered and required moving items to find objects and using dark corners to hide a couple objects.
Script is poorly written, voice overs okay, graphics vary from very good to okay. Story is disjointed and rather predictable. Scenarios don’t make much sense…man eating enormous flower and savages with spears that just sound warnings. People disappear without much clarity. More tasks, MORE Mini Games to finally encounter a savage with BLUE eyes.
I honestly didn’t even want to finish this one and do not plan to purchase it. I honestly cannot give such a tired and reused theme a recommendation. I hope these developers go back to the drawing board, hire some innovative and creative staff and bring us something NEW, ORIGINAL and EXCITING that we can truly enjoy again. To be fair give it a trial run to decide if this game is for you.
Lack of textural quality in most scenes, a few scenes were well designed with more detail, but overall the graphic quality and design was disappointing compared to other games. Continuous load screens and frequent failure to utilize full screen was a major turn off. Pop ups screens were small and in center of screen which, in my opinion, is just lazy development. Characters were good to poorly designed, little emotion or movement, eyes blink, mouth moves, voice overs were okay. Story line was disjointed with a badly written script. Major theme involves a bracelet with special powers which is an old, tired theme. Game used a story book to reveal back story and in the first one you replace missing objects and in second you need to find objects to turn pages in book and READ the story (this one could be skipped, so guess it was a Mini Game). One of the worst games I’ve tried in a long time, poor in all categories, and I couldn’t find much that was redeeming. 15 minutes into the trial I quit. I certainly will not purchase this one and I cannot honestly recommend it. Appreciate the opportunity to take that trial run, and so should you to make your own decision.
Overall: Much better than recent games I’ve tested and I’m looking forward to the rest of the journey. Young couple on train enjoying their trip when there is an accident. Next scene, Mark wakes up in a hotel room but Jane is missing, however a picture of them sits on a desk. The Hotel-Spa is rather pleasant for a haunted hotel, a really nice change from dark, dank, peeling walls! But it still maintains that tension of what is next! Stranger and stranger begins the journey to find Jane. After Mark finally finds a way out of his room, he catches sight of her in a wheel chair dressed in a hospital gown but she is whisked away. Mark follows her completing interesting tasks along a hall and exploring several rooms, all very well-designed.
Apparently a doctor’s wife and son were severely injured years ago, and only the son survived. Since then, the doctor’s only goal in life was to keep his son alive.
Interesting note, brochure shows that the spa closed in the 50’s! So tighten your seat belt, now the adventure becomes more interesting! What has happened to Jane? Where are they? Will Mark save her from…?
Excellent crafted and nicely detailed characters, good voice overs, however not much human interaction so far, but there is a monster, a one eyed, shadowy creature, but not that one-eyed purple people eater, at least I don’t think so, not in this mountain setting. Décor takes place in hotel, odd rooms, a hospital setting and a surreal, but not bizarre, island vacation memory flash back.
So far, 8 Mini Games and 4 Hidden Object Games and both games are well crafted. Hidden Object games offer a variety and Mini Games provide various levels of expertise and strategy from easy, to repeat actions, to a bit more difficult.
Not a Mini Game fan, I’ll still purchase this one because of the forward game movement, the well-designed décor, locations, scenes and I like that the inventory items make sense and connect well to tasks. I would have given this one a 5 except that the Mini Games far exceed and overshadow Hidden Object Games and becomes a bit annoying to just fill time.
Graphics: Excellent. Gamma option! Sound and Music: Just turned down, but it was okay Characters: Well-crafted, attractive, even liked the one-eyed shadow monster Voice Overs: Not enough interaction to really tell through trial Hint: Was too slow for me but transported, so all good
Hidden Object Games: First one has rather small objects, but the rest are larger and very well designed and defined, variety from word lists to match images to uncover pairs
Mini Games: Variety: Create images depicted in center using left and right designs, rotate three discs to match identical colors-need to memorize locations, turn three discs to create a picture, rotate knobs so liquid levels match number on control panel-one move might change another, etc.
A familiar story from a movie! Two friends on trip, a game transports one to another realm filled with elves. Friend follows and encounters an elf. The elf is soon trapped and must be saved. Once saved the elf offers a potion to bring Lianas back to life, but the potion is poured on dead leaves to create a vine ladder. (I even restarted the game to see if I was mistaken.) Who is Lianas? At this point I questioned continuity. Later a Leanne appears who apparently has been there for over 150 days, but doesn’t offer to do anything not even open her door, (what you don’t invite someone into your home with no human contact for 150 day) so those tasks are required to move forward. The story just isn’t well done and lacks clarity or continuity. When will developers begin to think outside the box instead of using old, tired, or copied themes?
Graphics are way too bright and many items exhibit poor textural design. The characters have minimal emotion or movement but voice overs are okay. Hint sometimes transports and is fast enough to avoid frustration. Hidden Objects games have some variety but frequently must move one item to discover another. WAY too many mini games that are texturally inferior, time consuming and tired…same old twist and turn, move and shuffle. Sigh! After completing a map to traipse through a maze along with a prior warning from Leanne that the MAZE is dangerous, that was enough of the trial for me. Warning More Mini Games ahead! Since I’m not a fan of them, I realized this was not a game I wanted to continue or purchase. I recommend you take a trial run to form your own opinion. I just can't recommend this one.
Graphics: Poor to okay, extremely bright colors, frequent poor textural design Sound and Music: Okay Characters: Minimal emotion or movement. Well designed for the most part Voice Overs: Good Hint: Moves fast, good thing, sometimes transports Hidden Object Games: Well designed, interactive, some variety Mini Games: Old, tired, repeats, many with poor textural design, way too many vs.Hidden Object Games
Overall: Good King and great Alchemist traps Vile Witch in mirror. Where have I seen this before? Good graphics, sometimes poor textural application, but mostly attention to detail and interesting well-designed scenes, decors and attire. Character faces and movements were poorly crafted and the guard and prince were too similar and I've seen this prince design in other games by this developer! Voice for prince should have deepened somewhat after he appeared grown up, sounded a bit too young, but the female alchemist had a great voice. Hidden Object Games were well done with attention to detail and a good job camouflaging objects especially the feathers in a bird scene! Too many Mini Games for me! Alchemist must collect herbs, flowers, etc. and combine them into flasks. Each time a flask is created a Mini Game of match stones with specific number of matches and limited moves pops up (can skip) and is a game feature that I really dislike. After a multiple step maze game, I was going to stop, but fortunately time ran out. I just didn’t like this game, I guess because of more cons than pros, especially the repetition. However, I will recommend it for those who like Mini Games, but I suggest you give this one a trial run to see if you enjoy the game play.
Graphics: Good Sound and Music: Okay Characters: Need improvement on facial features and movements Voice Overs: Need better voice selection specific to age Hint: Fast
Hidden Object Games: Excellent with great camouflage of objects. Used a book to share backstory with pop ups, put together, etc. was an okay set of tasks compared to some
Mini Games: Not a fan! Have to collect numerous items to prepare flasks. Then the same match type game pops up each time a flask is completed. I consider this lazy and repetitive craftsmanship and boring. I skipped them after the second one. Was ready to leave after maze game, but time ran out.
Overall: Forward moving game with some back and forth, but forward enough to remember where to use your inventory items.
Father drops daughter off at a convent and when she is grown she intercepts a telegram meant for him and travels to the town where it originated only to discover a deserted depot. Now she must use her psychic abilities to learn more about her father and his history, each time she uses her abilities, it requires putting together a picture using a group of tiles.
After she completes several tasks at the depot she must find parts to activate a trolley and rides it up to a mansion, where her journey really begins and she encounters the owner who warns here to stay away, but does she. No!
Once she finds a way inside, she has a few tasks, one to put together a simple steam engine (which propels an elevator) by finding coal, collecting water, using a lighter and using some “scobs” which appears to be straw or excelsior, “scobs” didn’t come up in my Thesaurus or spell check?
The mansion hall and dining area is filled with nicely detailed décor, the characters are engaging and attractively crafted and the story has been interesting so far. The trial left me wanting to know more about her family history and the "mystery."
I enjoyed the trial and will consider purchasing the CE. As I frequently suggest, take advantage of the trial run and judge for yourself.
Graphics: Well-designed with attention to detail, excellent décor and nicely crafted scenes and locations Sound: Good Music: Good Characters: Varied, attention to detail Voice Overs: Good and fit the character well Hint: Fast
Hidden Object Games:Beautifully crafted, multiple objects, varied themes: find and use parts to start trolley, use pictures collected in scrapbook in another, enjoyable
Mini Games: Start right away. Slide tiles so all designs appear once horizontal as well as vertical, put together a simple steam engine based on diagram, so offers a variety and not too difficult during trial
Overall: Okay, so I’m not an Eipix fan, but Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Dracul with purple glasses (but he is good looking), really? First impression was “Shades of Jack the Ripper as THE Dark, Supernatural Evil Guy...Will he suck out our life essence? Beware London!”
Rather disjointed game that is all over the place with back and forth tasks. Constable used magnifying glass to look at credentials? In tavern, rooms are upstairs but to peek into them you are transported to train depot which makes them appear on main floor. You have to search the rooms for specific objects that appear using a target scope to focus in on them, once that is done you return to the tavern. The three characters sitting around require contact, the guy at the bar requires a specific mixture to drink, the music guy with purple glasses requires a Mini Game that uses buttons to enter a tune for three levels and you have to refer to a combination sheet to make the right selections, but this one you can skip, then he gives a second task that requires you to follow his eyes and select the correct keys, I wasn’t too successful so I used hint to finish, can’t skip this one. The female in the dining room just wants a dozen roses, simple game. They all wear the same necklace. OH! OH! After finding more hints to open the three rooms, you transport back to the train depot where you duplicate designs by turning three circles. Once in the rooms it's rather disappointing because you just look around, nothing much discovered after all that time and effort to get the doors open. Probably fits in later? Back to tavern with Dr. Jekyll to only encounter bad guy in the basement, who disappears. Dr. Jekyll says something like we need to find where they sleep but that they don’t sleep in their beds! Oh! Oh! (I didn't get to the fight scene at end of demo wasting time on long, grueling games to move forward.) Give it a test, you might like it! I will recommend this one for the other excellent qualities it offers.
This game shows improvement compared to last few Eipix games I reviewed. However, a good editor would be a sound investment, one who pays attention to little details, like check characters so they appear identical in each scene
Graphics: Beautifully crafted with attention to detail Sound: Appropriate to scene/event Music: Okay, turned down Characters: Better crafted this game with detail to design in appearance and dress, but still somewhat wooden, and I found that they alter appearance somewhat in different scenes. In close ups they are exquisite, in full form they appear different at times, in photo only one appears very close, the other two similar. Voice Overs: Very well done Hint: Great, transports Hidden Object Games: Exquisite designs, sometimes too many items, a couple dark corners Mini Games: Well crafted, long and some with more than one part. Mini Fans will like these!
Overall: Beautifully crafted game, attractive characters, multiple Mini Games, several Hidden Object Games, both well designed. Bad royal guy wants good princess’s magical abilities. Princess can turn statues into animated objects and they seem to work. If this wasn’t a Mini Game focused game I would buy it. The story is probably predictable; princess loves prince but keeps their relationship secret, bad guy who wants her abilities gets between them. The game moves forward with many tasks and a full inventory and requires a lot of back and forth but the hint transports and it doesn’t becomes annoying. I looked forward to the next scene since they were so well done and the story did pull me into it somewhat. A note for developers, when you have someone/something in a cage, dumped in the water, don’t make the players go on a wild goose chase to collect things to save it, poor little rock guy gurgling away hanging on with his little stone fingers.
Graphics: Excellent. Gamma provided to lighten or darken colorization. Sounds: Appropriate to event/location Hints: Good and transports! Characters: Excellent design and well-constructed Voice Overs: Well done
Hidden Objects Games: Small screen pop up, full screen, wall with objections hidden throughout
Mini Games: Well there were numerous compared to Hidden Object Games 11 to 4 and I might have missed counting one or two. Turn tiles match colors, move each token to picture associated with it (just shuffle them until fits) create a bridle for a hawk to fly you to castle, put brick runes in sequence shown, didn’t even see the light ups was busy reading instructions, but pretty simple, seen these before and dislike the ones that just wastes time shuffling around until everything fits. Since it appears this will be more a Mini Game than a Hidden Object Game, I won’t invest in it myself, but do recommend it for all its other qualities.
Overall: One of the most disappointing games I’ve played in a while. No clue where it was going during the entire hour. Game requires frequent trips back and forth from upstairs to basement. Requires numerous collection of items and eventually they are put together. Central theme is clocks. You have to enter times, dates, numbers and work on electrical to make equipment function. I dreaded the Mini Games and when a full screen of numbers, bottles, and slide squares to complete a picture with several levels popped up, I called it a day! Good indication there will be more Mini Games than I want to face. The story doesn’t move forward, it just jumps all over the place, maybe to introduce the player to all the characters, but in doing so it entails so much back and forth and completing so many tasks that it actually became annoying. Sadly, I’ve tested a few Eipix Games recently trying to find one to purchase; it won’t be this one! All of them have been disappointing. I hope Eipix can find a balance and return to what made them great in the past. Test it yourself, see if you like it. I will recommend it for Mini Fans. Graphics: Excellent, beautifully crafted, attention to detail, great décor Music: Good, but turned down Sounds: Good Characters: Horrible eye designs and would have been better without animation, characters were well designed with attention to detail, but the eyes in the paranormal guy and landlord were badly done. Characters are varied in appearance and detail. There was an odd mix of guests at this mansion with no clue why they selected such a strange place. Paranormal guy responded like a spoiled ten year old and the engineer in the basement didn’t seem to fit that role Voice overs: Mostly good, some need to go back for retake Hint: Good and fast, sometimes transports Map: Didn’t use Hidden Object Games: Excellent graphics, detail to design, and good variety of objects Mini Game: UGH! Too many, too complicated, too time consuming, just skipped most Morph/Collect: Didn’t bother in trial
