As part of the 'developer' sale I decided to try a few of their games that I hadn't already.
I really enjoyed the first one. But this one, not at all.
The main differences between this one and its predecessor is that this version has a trophy system as well as a 'store' to buy statues etc. But the biggest of these differences is the gameplay. I could not, despite MANY tries, even get 'silver' on the second level. Like others have said, you are dependent on the AI to achieve your goals. Your own strategy has little to do with success. Worst part, unless you get gold or silver on the first five levels - you can't play 'sandbox' mode.

This is a great TM Strategy game. You can play relaxed or timed. The timer in this game is very well executed so you can get gold fairly easily.
There are 45 levels. Each level has a 'hidden treasure chest' for you to find. It is within the level and you will need to look for 'glowing sparkles' to find it. If you miss it, you can go back to find it as the map will tell you whether you have found it or not. There is also an achievement system.
You have the standard TM game-play such as building houses to collect rent and build certain buildings to collect resources etc. You can also 'promote' your workers after they have gained enough experience. You have tax collectors who collect rent. You have guards who chase away pests (wolves, bears etc) and you also have your standard workers who do the building and upgrades.

This is another great solitaire game from BFG. It has an interesting storyline and good game-play.
It's pretty similar to other solitaire games - buy power-ups, gain achievements and complete objectives. There are also 'mini-games' that appear every so often in the card hands. They are like 'chance cards'. Hit the bulls eye, find the treasure etc. You also have your standard 'road-block' cards that require tools to unlock or have to be played twice to clear.
The power-ups are not cheap and you will likely need to replay levels over and over again to get them. But for those who like long game-play that will be a plus.

*Based on COMPLETED main & bonus game.
I found the storyline to be interesting. Nothing great to set it apart but not bad. The bonus chapter has really nothing to do with the main chapter so it is not 'necessary' to get the CE if you aren't interested in the SG or collectables etc.
There are no 'morphing' objects. There are, however, collectables to get. Four collections to be exact and the map lets you know if you have found them or not in that particular location.
The mini-games are re-playable. Most of them are pretty easy. I only skipped one, but mainly cause I just didn't want to put the time into solving it. The HOs are not. There are bonus 'puzzle's but they are 'jigsaw puzzles'.
My major complaint is the 'achievement' system. Several of them are completely idiotic. One of them is 'use the map no more than 5 times'. Seriously? Why have it if you get penalized for using it? This has to be one of the stupidest achievements I have seen and completed ruined the achievement system for me. Bad move, developers!

*Based on COMPLETED main story and bonus game.
I was very intrigued by the storyline in the demo. However, like many have already posted - the storyline went downhill. The ending of both the main story and bonus chapter just didn't make sense to me. It was like they were heading in a particular direction within the demo and then all of a sudden decided to go different ways that made no sense.
Aside from that, the puzzles and HOPs are rather easy and the strategy guide is very useful (though you probably won't need it). There is an achievement system and collectables. Masks, puzzle pieces and morphing objects. All of which are located outside the HOPs. I was unable to get all the masks because the game would not let me click on the last one. Not sure if this is a glitch or not - but it made the mask collection useless.
You cannot replay HO scenes nor can you replay the puzzles that you complete in the main and bonus game. There is a secret room that is unlocked after you complete the bonus game. But all it is a few extra HOs and extra puzzles.
I'm not going to recommend this game simply because there are so many other good CEs out there to play. This game was a nice effort, but it just didn't finish the job.

I really enjoyed the first installment. This one has decent graphics and an achievement system. Which are both pluses in my book.
However, the clock is an issue. I couldn't even beat the clock on the first level. I'm glad you can at least keep playing the level and move on - but it sort of makes the achievement system obsolete.
I get that it's time management. BUT it's NOT supposed to be time frustration. Especially when you rush through a level only to miss the clock by one or two seconds.
It's a great effort - but the timing is too frustrating for me. I'm sure some will like the challenge and find it suitable but for me it's TOO intense. I love time management - but I prefer the timers to be more realistic like they are with the Royal Envoys, Island Tribes and Northern Tales series. I wish the developers gave more game modes as options versus straight up hard frustration. Like easy, medium and hard. But this one has just the one mode. Not even a relax mode which wouldn't be necessary if the timer was decent.
If there was not a requirement to get gold on all levels to get all the achievements I 'may' have considered it.

I have not tried the first installment in this series - but I love this one!
It's a solitaire game (obviously!). But there is more to it than just that (and buying power-ups). You need to rebuild a village and you do that buy earning gold and resources during solitaire levels. You also gain resources from the buildings you rebuild.
You can then sell your resources at the market (once you build it) or use them to build other buildings. There is also a shop (automatically available near the beginning of the game). In this shop you can buy power-ups (wild cards, show the next card, double the multiplier etc). So there is a lot to do.
The 'stars system' that this game provides is bit too complicated to put into words without confusing people - so I'll let you figure that one out on your own in the demo. It's not that complicated when you see it for yourself.
All in all it's a great game. The graphics are decent and the music is pleasant. The storyline is pretty typical for these kinds of game.
My only complaint is one I would make of just about any solitaire game here at BFG. I WISH they had more variety in the 'type' of solitaire game. Not always the 'one up or one down' card play. A little variety would be great! There are PLENTY of ways to play solitaire! (spider, monte carlo, klondike etc.)

Based on the demo:
The storyline for this game is what ruined it for me. Seeing the young boy and girl react to losing their parents was not sincere. It wasn't even like breaking a toy. It was nothing, to the boy at least. It made the rest of the story that much harder to swallow. I just couldn't get into it as a result.
I liked the extras and had the storyline been more realistic or better told I likely would have bought it - but I won't even get the SE for this game.
On a final note, this game is by Mad Head games. Mad Head has a mixed record in my book. They created such jewels as the "Cadenza" series which have BRILLIANT storylines. But they also created lousy storylines with the "Nevertales" series. So, bear that in mind.
There are other "Rite of Passage" installments more worthy - such as "Child of the forest" and "Hide and seek". I'll stick with those.

Well, after falling in love with the sequel, I decided to try the original. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was hoping it would be along the same lines as its successor and that it is.
You can't really classify this game in one genre. It's got too much variety - in a good way. From HOs, quests and a boatload of different puzzles. You can play timed or relaxed which is great.
The 'theme' of this game is different than the sequel. You have to 'restore' the orphanage by completing HO scenes. Each room in the orphanage has an HO scene. You gather items not only from the list, but also to complete the side quests. Each HO scene has a 'hidden location' that may or may not have an item you need. Each HO scene also has numerous 'gems' to collect to use in the game.
The 'theme park' of this one is underwater. Restore the park, restore the orphanage and complete quests and puzzles along the way.
The puzzles are many, various and RE-PLAYABLE!
I will warn you though, this is an addictive game. ESPECIALLY for those who love 'variety' games rather than doing one thing repeatedly level after level.
If you've tried the sequel, don't bother with the demo of this one, it's a sure bet.
I really liked this game- at first. The graphics are cute but the game-play does get a bit repetitive.
However, I couldn't get gold on the fourth level despite several tries. I like a challenge, and I don't mind having to go back to beat a few levels. But I'm one of those people that likes to get the hang of a game before dealing with stressful time constraints. But lacking that, along with the repetitiveness just doesn't do it for me. I just think that if a game gets you frustrated on the fourth level, it can't really be much better on the later ones. Meaning, unrealistic timers. To each their own. Some may like this aspect or find it less challenging than I do. But for me, it's not one I would 'enjoy' playing in the evening when I am trying to relax.
I'll leave the 'recommendation' blank as I really neither recommend nor don't recommend this game. I just am offering my two cents.
