The game seems to be more of a cluttered mess this time, if that's even possible! The plethora of food is a big aversion for me in any puzzles or games I play. Graphics are really good and colorful and the puzzle variety is the usual mix.
The sun emblems are better hidden in the layers of food and junk and don't seem to be as abundant. The various heaps of clutter keep things interesting if you enjoy this type of game. The moving ones diverted my interest and the one with floating bubbles was an annoying distraction but for others it might be fun. Challenge was light throughout the demo and it contained a good sampling, as always, of what is in the full game.
I own several of the earlier games from this series, fun and different at the time. But 25 of them are too many if nothing ever changes, I play the demos and never find anything new. To me it makes no sense to keep buying repeats. I replay my old clutter and mosaics games all the time and still enjoy them a lot.
I am not a big fan of Christmas decorations and all the red and green that goes with it. Too overdone and busy in many of the categories.
Some of them offered better challenge than others. Of those I thought Letter Swap, Cycle, Difference and Connect were the most enjoyable. In the Paint Category the images were so-so and the technique was easy. Colors were kind of bland but after completion they changed due to added shading and detail, so they turned out really pretty.
As usual I don't feel there is enough in each category, some have much less than others, The variety of puzzles is okay though, I played 10 of them, overall they were mostly the same styles we see far too often. The graphics are excellent and the demo had no tech issues.
I don't consider this a good CE value at all but for puzzle lovers who enjoy all the Christmas razzle-dazzle, the game will be satisfying. I still think Tiny Little Lion is a top quality dev but I am just so very tired of all the same stuff all the time. It's a shame they've chosen to be lazy, obviously it's not working out for them or for us!
Now that Rick is back hopefully the quality of this series returns as well. Since his disappearance it all went downhill, imo. Rachel and her team were there, but that's it, just there!
In "Counterpart" Rick isn't the same guy we all fell in love with. 14 years away has obviously changed him. If the devs are on the ball this is a great opportunity to put some clever new ideas to work and restore the entertainment that also went missing.
I liked this game, it had a lot more going on with entering the Alt World. The characters were interesting, we saw glimpses of the past and seeing Rick was a relief. HOPs and puzzles were fun. The demo for the CE moved along nicely, got me into the town, I did enjoy it. As usual I was bugged by the silly tasks but that will never change, I just don't like them.
I will definitely purchase the SE when the price is right. I've not purchased Paranormal Files in a very long time.
The story was at a stand-still as I tended to all the tasks when the important goal was to find the rare red lily. It felt as if the adventure was more like an obstacle interrupting the tasks and puzzles. The pace was very slow.
Graphics are gorgeous and the characters look great, beautiful color everywhere. The story makes brief appearances amongst the fillers so it becomes hard to stay connected and remain focused on what's going on, at least for me. Too little of the actual adventure made the demo boring. I don't understand why we can't enjoy more of the adventure in the demos.
The HO scenes were usually dark, also the items were hard to recognize, where to use some of them was vague, some just didn't make sense, others were hidden completely out of sight requiring hints. All of this made the HOPs quite challenging. There was a variety of styles, one was very difficult due to the size of the objects and the layout. The puzzles were a good variety and a fine challenge. They were all fun. I had to skip only one. They weren't familiar to me and they were very colorful.
I agree that Domini games are twice as long as those from other devs. That's because they are stretched out with a multitude of tasks and puzzles. The story is just little bits along the way and always brings out the impatience in me. I am not a puzzle enthusiast but do enjoy them, just not in abundance. I expect more story and adventure, not a puzzle game.
Domini gives us their usual CE format but has reduced the number of collectibles a little. Nothing new to make the CE a worthwhile purchase, imo. I may pick-up the SE version when it is eligible for sale price because I enjoy stories from the Medieval era. Sad for the ladies of that time with all the rigid and crazy rules for courtship and marriage.
Number 5: India arrived in April of 2022. I love this series and was sure it was gone forever. I couldn't have been more surprised and delighted to find Number 6 today. I expect China to not be disappointing.
This is a beautiful mosaics series, imo, and I own and have played all the previous ones over and over again. Each one visits a different country and the images and backgrounds all relate to that country. The tileset choices and the colors are beautiful and unique. The games/puzzles are simple but I don't mind.
I've been playing many other mosaic games so frequently, especially Rainbow, that I'm more than ready to visit China. I love the colors and variety of images so much in the Wilderness series that I can hardly wait to get started. Mosaics games are in my 3 top favorites and they've become scarce at BFG. Hopefully more of them will again be available from quality developers!
Don't expect to see much of it. What you do see are the typical objects that have nothing to do with the featured location. The graphics were really clear and beautiful so seeing a good representation of New England would have been lovely, but all we get are the usual cluttered HO scenes.
I didn't like how the game worked. It was uncomfortable, a bit jumpy. The magnifying and zooming engaged when I didn't want them which was annoying. I thought Easy Mode would be best for the demo but it was actually more challenging than expected, had to use a couple of hints which I hate doing. And there was always that one item that was hidden too well.
Morph and star much easier to spot than the key in most scenes. Trivia is revealed with the key but the info was very minimal, a little disappointing. Most HOs were very small or were vague outlines in a dark area. some were too blended, for example green on green. There was a variety of familiar HO styles. Mini games and puzzles were pretty easy but I enjoyed them. Find the Difference was fun because it had lots of them to find and not so easy.
It's a usual offering from Boomzap and I really don't see anything terribly wrong with it. My problem is that I am just burned out on these HO games. We get such an overload of them on Big Fish. I see so many other types of games on other sites that look like they'd be really enjoyable. I don't understand why we are so limited here on this site. I keep hanging in there hoping things will change before I just decide to move on to somewhere else.
But if you love this type of game and never tire of them, this one seems it will be a nice addition to your collection.
I'm a bit confused about the family ties and the characters, not having followed this series but knowing a little bit about it. I thought they would be older. Anna looked awfully young to me. The masked culprit revealed himself as her nephew and looks older than her. Oh well, so much for logic at least in my mind!
The demo wasn't too bad, containing a bunch of tasks, but they were bearable, and there was enough of the story in-play that it didn't become boring. Graphics were nice and there weren't very many dark scenes hiding the items I needed. I enjoyed the HOPs but the challenge was light, fun variety. The puzzles were much better, more involved/challenging. I loved the one lining up the various picture sections to make one complete image.
There are 12 collectibles, 28 puzzle parts, 21 achievements. Collectibles weren't as easy to spot as the puzzle pieces.
I might consider picking up the CE when it becomes available on sale just to see what happens with Dorian. In the demo he was the most interesting character and crumbled with age as he disappeared.
I absolutely love word games but this one doesn't have enough words and levels to make it a good value. Still it's a good way to strengthen one's vocabulary and spelling skills.
I don't like the categories at all. Jobs and Places have words that will likely stump many gamers, me included. Too unfamiliar, imo. Who wants to play only in Easy Mode and use hints? I know I don't because I love challenge. And there are very few hints available so not much help anyway.
Even though I'm great at spelling, for me, the words were hard to figure out. Sports stopped me in my tracks as I am a dunce in that topic, it's embarrassing, really! Better categories would probably entice me to buy the game and it would have to have a better hint system. I don't want the entire word revealed, just a letter for each hint would do. Also the Mixed Category was just an exercise in total frustration for me.
The game looks innocent enough but it made me feel like a dumb-dumb! LOL. But that's good in a way because if you want challenge, you'll find it here.
You can go to the chapters, there are 5, in any order and choose any puzzle to assemble. All can be replayed, the game works smoothly, special features aren't really a necessity, imo. The puzzles are cute and colorful, very basic artwork but stained glass is always beautiful to me, not always needing to be brightly colored.
The pieces below the work area can be brought out and placed about, making your work easier. They are really hard to see until you bring them up and then their colors appear. Put them together like the jigsaw method, the only difference is that the pieces aren't the typical style.
There's a mix of challenge and easier but not so easy that you can quickly finish a puzzle. I was able to complete 4 of them in the demo only because I picked what seemed to be the less complicated to me. It was fun. Similar to the mosaic puzzles of yesteryear but not as beautiful or challenging.
A paint option after assembly provides extra enjoyment. I really liked that feature. It allows you to repaint the puzzle over the colors already applied so you can see the difference right away and there's a good variation of colors to choose from. You can even revert back to the original colors if you want, which is cool because if you decide to keep it as a wallpaper you'd want the prettiest version.
I don't feel there are enough puzzles but having the paint feature does extend the game. Using our imaginations with color is always fun but I thought they should've been brighter but the softer colors are still very pretty.
When this is eligible for a discount price I will definitely purchase. BFG's new policy for new/recent release prices is a definite downer for obvious reasons. If a good sale comes up, I want to buy games I'm interested in without waiting for weeks. Like many others I rely on sales for my purchases because living on a tighter budget these days takes priority!
The first scene in Chapter started out creepy with ooze from a painting slithering down the wall. After it reached the floor it disappeared into who knows where! And so did the action! Bishop summoned Laura, the journalist, to investigate and to find Michael.
The search is at a stand-still right from the get-go with all the broken, missing, locked, rusted items which means this game is full of tasks. Michael was found, safe and sound, so I hoped the game would then pick up pace and get further into the story. However, the demo progressed very slowly. Too many tasks but there were several games, 1 HOP and collectibles to find. I loved the games. Yes, they all added up to a good challenge.
I didn't like at all how Bishop and Laura looked and moved at the start. It reminded me of the old adventure games when characters were stiff and expressionless. But upon finding Michael the characters' movement and faces changed, appearance improved. Voices were great.
Graphics were pretty good but not as good as in the older NY Mysteries. The map was excellent, taking you swiftly to wherever you needed to go. There were 42 morphs and a satisfying amount of other collectibles. Morphs were the easiest to find.
So I can't honestly tell you anything interesting or exciting about the game from what I played in the demo. It ended with Laura still poking around in the gallery, no closer to finding out what was going on. I loved most of the NY Mysteries series so I'm hoping this will not be disappointing. If I decide to purchase I will definitely get the CE when a good sale comes up.
We certainly need a quality mystery, a HOPA we can sink our teeth into and be wonderfully entertained. All of the "finding" and HO games, puzzles have me totally bored and ready to just give up on BFG. Quality games don't seem to matter anymore. Surely they aren't becoming obsolete!?
